Happy to say I’ve been content with just having the Miyoo mini plus as my only retro emulation handheld. However this one is tempting me. Loving the design and smaller size of this.
The only thing that looks better would be having the n64 and if it did saturn i'd be really interested. Having no analog kinda makes n64 pointless though.
Still makes me chuckle that Bob is so obsessive over controls he has a custom all-button controller with digital switches for playing Mario Maker, yet happily plays N64 and Dreamcast using a dpad on these tiny handhelds.
I took your advice from an old video and set up a phone for gaming. It works really well. The screen is much much nicer than cheap handhelds, the CPU is a lot faster, the sound is better, and it didn't even cost much thanks to cell carrier no-contract promotions. And using my favorite controller, it's also super comfy. Really digging it, and also happy that I escaped the search for the perfect handheld.
Ya with all the smart non phones out there that is a great way to repurpose one since it can't be used as a phone anymore but is otherwise perfectly fine.
@@MoAli72 I'm using an 8bitdo Pro 2 with its phone clip, but use whatever you like. I set things up this way mostly because retro handhelds make my thumbs hurt.
The screen and the blacks sold me on this device. I wanted a miyoo mini v4 but it doesn't have bluetooth for my earbuds! So th brick is the next step up!
I'm enjoying my Brick with the alpha version of Knulli installed that's available to ko-fi contributors. Still got things to iron out, but having portmaster is fantastic. More mature firmware will really make this thing shine.
the trimui brick really looks like a very appealing option , offering something different for the first time on a while. i think its going to be a hit when custom firmware gets released
I just bought a Powkiddy RGB20 Pro which is very similar to this but honestly, if the purple color of the Brick was available I would've probably wanted to had gotten that over the 20 Pro. Sick color. At the end of the day I'm not too bothered though because both devices only really change in look and not much else. edit: Looking at the handhelds spreadsheet, the RGB20 Pro is slightly nicer hardware than the Trimui, also has sticks which is nice, I'm excited for it to arrive in the mail for me, possibly next week.
I still don't really get the point of emulating a system with a control stick...if the emulation machine doesn't have a control stick? Just seems like overly limiting yourself.
Because d pad diagonals do a good enough job and it's a tradeoff to make it fit in the pocket better. Devices with dual sticks are nice when you're home, but one isn't going to "live in your pocket." Sometimes the best emulator is the one that's most convenient to always have on you.

@@Danominatorit’s all about specific use cases. If you only wanna play snes/gba/d-pad-only games and you really like the form factor, you’re good to go! I bought an Anbernic 35xx just for that era of games. But I can see your point: having a powerful emulation machine that CAN cover the controls of all consoles is the best bet.
10:40 the DS assigns it's more powerful graphics chip to only one screen at a time, so I'd wager the emulator uses that to assume which it should focus on.
I love vertislop, but I'm just so happy with my RG28XX I just can't see myself buying anything new in the future. MAYBE a Powkiddy V10 for the novelty. The RG28XX is just the best stickless emulation handheld.
Mine is on the way. I love love love the TSP, so I was hopeful for this one, even though I know the experience will be different. I'm hopeful that Crossmix will address many of the issue it has, the same as it did for the TSP. The developer community seems to have a big hand in what devices are successful. I guess that's not a terrible thing in the end because they can do it better than the manufacturers and they actually listen to the players.
I mean I think the amount of systems is excessive, but reviewing them it's his job. However, if it wasn't his job it would be really weird to buy so many retro handhelds.

No screen protector either, call me crazy but I've had no issues at all. The only real danger is potentially dropping it, but that's most likely to happen when you take it out of the case anyway.
@@togglebott7748 yeah, i'm not sure about the V4 but my original V1 Miyoo Mini's plastics were so darn fragile, heck i dropped it on my bedside table (maybe a 8cm fall?) and the bottom right corner got a small crack right between one of the speaker grill's edges corner and the edge of the device where the top and bottom molds meet. then another V1 i had which was inside of a protective carry case had its rear plastic mold of the battery cover just break off entirely after i dropped it on the floor by accident. then it became nearly impossible to get the Mini so when the Mini Plus was announced i got it as soon as i could and it does have much better quality plastic. the Mini Plus however kinda lost the charm that the original Mini had for me, it was less pocketable and honestly for its size there were alternatives with much better specs out there which were more or less the same size. the Anbernic SP recently caught my eye, but then the Brick came out so i just got that because its closer to the OG Miyoo Mini's size and heck, at least it does have both bluetooth AND wifi so i don't even need to think about pulling the SD card out to add or remove stuff, and i can use wireless earbuds instead of having to plug a set of earphones which would make the 5-10 minute short play sessions i usually do occasionally much more "just turn on and play" without having to do any sort of preparations beforehand (like have to take out earphones and plug them in, and have to wait for the console to boot because it does not have a good sleep function and then have to load my game save state etc... - it has been a while since i last used or updated my broken V1's build of Onion OS, and with the Plus i didn't even bother waiting for the first non-expirmental of Onion OS to be launched for it, so idk if they ended up ironing the sleep state function or not)
the way the DS emulator detects screens is cause the DS assigns "main" and "sub" screens during games and I'm assuming the fullscreen option just fullscreens whatever screen is set to main
After playing around 60 hours on Miyoo Mini + and getting horizontal handheld with 4 inch display (ARC-D) - I decided to never touch vertical and under 4 inches screen, and my hands are upper limit of M glove size.
I've been on the fence for a long time about getting a retro handheld. I'm afraid that it's something I would buy, mess with, then never touch again. I already have loads of games to get to on my backlog as it is. I've already played a majority of retro games I wanted to play through emulation over the years, so a retro handheld is a novelty at best.

With the Anbernic RG35XXSP you can press the power button while in games like N64 and dreamcast to switch DPAD to analog instead. Makes the anbernic a much better choice in stock emulation

I haven't been interested in any other micro, and mini handhelds aside from the Miyoo Mini, and the plus. This seems like a nice mix between the two, with the Analogue Pocket's form factor. I'm still disappointed that the Analogue Pocket wasn't the same size as a Gameboy Pocket. Anyroad, might check this out in a few months.

With a better custom ui and hopefully a constantly running internal clock for games like Pokemon I can see this easily replacing the Miyoo for me in the future

I previously bought the Trimui Smart Pro and the clock was wonky, it was hard to set the region, and it refused to stick to the time I set it (would keep auto-jumping ahead by 6h). And the clock would stop when i power off the device and only resume from where it left off when I power back on. Do you notice this issue with the Trimui Brick?

How's the fast forwarding? Is it easy to map and does it lag to much? I mostly use these devices for older RPGs where fast forwarding is really nice to have.

I have a RGB 20 Pro and will tell you: you won't regret it. It's very comfortable, amazing screen. This Brick one looks super uncomfortable
