As long as I can remember, my father has always hunted morels and brought them home to fry them up for us kids. Such a treat! Now he is 72 and lives out on our family farm that’s been in our family for well over 100 years. My brother went out with him this year to hunt morels since his balance is not as steady as it once was. As a kid I also remember him drying out ginseng that he found out on the family farm. Great job morel hunting!
I grew up in Missouri and hunted morels every spring. I love the "what have we been doing all our lives?" exclamation. I can smell the morels frying and I am missing it so much! Enjoy! I am loving this video.
My mum used to take us field mushroom picking on a local dairy farm. The large bright white mushrooms have brown gills underneath and thrive on unwooded close cropped green grass. They love mowed lawns. I guess the cows did this job. It was so much fun picking our way through the cow pats and finding these huge discs of yumminess. The simple joy of butter, salt and fresh mushrooms. I do remember a time when my older brother and the local doctors son went foraging and ate what they thought were edible mushrooms. My skinny brother became violently ill and was lucky to survive. His friend was a larger kid with a bit more padding and didn’t suffer in the same way. It was scary and intriguing through the lens of a child. The look on your face Elsa after you finished hanging those mushrooms was so moving. How “wonder”ful!! Thank you so much for sharing. Cheers from Australia.
I am 59 yrs old & was forced to live in the woods as a teenager-little fif I know how I would miss it! There is a freedom that comes with that, most people NEVER get to experience! I am sick & disabled but NOT in a W/C & watching you 2 SERIOUSLY makes me think that's how I want to spend the twilight years of life! AWESOME Shroom haul!! JORDAN IS AN ANGEL!!
Grew up in Eastern Iowa- Morel mushrooms paradise. The only thing better than hunting mushrooms, is eating them! Had an old farmer friend with tons of pasture and forest land- he loved taking us hunting for them- he didn't like to eat them. Some years we literally filled up multiple 5 gallon buckets. Some little patches rendered 2 or 3 five gallon buckets in one spot- it was amazing. Lightly batter fried in egg wash and cracker crumbs, or pan fried with butter and salt- so awesome. We gave tons of them away and still had more than we could eat in some years. Didn't try drying them. My Dad came up with morel chowder soup, and my Mom came up with scrabbled eggs with lightly fried morel mushrooms. +
Elsa’s enthusiastic and excited energy is freaking contagious!! I can’t say enough about how amazing your videos are!! They’re very well executed in that the cinematography is perfect and your positive vibes bring happiness to us, the viewers! Mad love from the Green Mountain state of Vermont! *#elsarhae* *#masterforager*
cheese burger I don’t think the fan base that they have now is going to be bothered by the name change, I would imagine most people are here for Barron too!! But hey, hopefully that won’t happen! :)
Elsa, your childlike excitement SO makes the video enticing. Like eating the mushroom, you hear one excited squeal, you want to hear more. Barron's witticisms go a long way toward helping us feel like we are there tool!!!!! Joy be with you both.
Took my kids out yesterday to go find some and got a total of 8. It’s just to dry this spring we need more rain! We probably got the same amount of wood ticks as we did mushrooms. Nonetheless my 5 year old was so excited I had to make the worlds smallest pot of cream of mushroom soup with them. (I also love to use them in stew because of the woody flavour). 🇨🇦 Happy hunting. Great video.
Like gold prospecting. My uncle Bob was a morel hunter and was generous enough to share. We also had various neighbors that shared, but not their hunting spots. It is a lot of work and they are gone so quickly. Enjoy!
Great hunting folks. I hunt saffron milky mushrooms here in Melbourne Australia. I felt the excitement as I saw Elsa when I found mine. At $45 a kilo I was hunting like a possessed man I tell ya what. Good luck and stay safe ay. Cheers from Mario.
Three years into avidly searching here in WA state for these beautiful morels, and I still have never come across one. To see your beginner's bounty, it encourages my soul to get back out into the mountains and search again!! Thank you. This video is just what I needed
Try a pine forest with plenty of needle floor. Also a good spot to find Lady Slippers, the mountain orchard, we call it. I was told that the morel you cut is only a small part of an underground labyrinth of other growth. Anyone know the science facts on this?
Elsa your "hoots" and "hollers" are so hilarious!!!! I can't help but smile and laugh when you burst out in glee!!!! So happy to see you and both healthy and happy in times like these! Thank you for bringing us all a little sunshine with your videos and I wish you luck on your future mushroom hunts!
I absolutely love how much pure happiness and childlike sense of wonder exudes from Elsa while finding Morels and eating them! Makes me want to get out and try to find some! Inspiring. Stay safe and enjoy each day!
Just think how intensified the flavor will be in your dehydrated morels. Reconstituting them in a veg broth or boiling water with give you the true flavor of the 'shroom. Lucky foragers ! Make yourselves a Spanish tortilla with eggs, potatoes, morels, and some shallots. Yum !
I’ve watched this video like three times just because of how excited Elsa gets!! Her joy is infectious and it always puts me in a better mood! Thanks!🧡
So happy and fun to see you guys participating in a huge part of my family’s life living here in southern Oregon. We look forward to morel season every year just as much as people look forward to Christmas. It’s the best, wholesome family fun. All ages can participate and be just as successful!! My 4 year old enjoys it just as much as I do!
Hunting morels really is that exciting. 💓 I've never fixed them just plain. I've always coated in egg then flour and fried in butter. Lil slice of heaven.
This is one of the most satisfying videos EVER! I grew up hunting and eating morels, we had a forest and they were everywhere. I had no idea at the time (1970s) how lucky we were.
I don’t know if I’m more happy or jealous for both of you finding these Jews of the woods! I love Barons look on his face when you said “caught” Elsa maybe you could practice ahead of time (like a script) to either say “foraged, picked, or found”...happy drying....happy eating. Love you guys🍄
You two kids are so fab together - get along, so much in common, enjoy each other's company... - seems like you got the magic sauce!! Hope you last until the end!!! Videos are so entertaining, and I usually learn something!! Keep it up!!!!
We have lived in Central Oregon (Sisters area) for over 40 years but just discovered mushroom hunting and these wonderful mushrooms in the last several. Thank you for this wonderful video !
Really enjoyed your Morel adventure. With not being able to trust any labels anymore I believe that hunting & gathering are our safest meals. Thanks guys!
We would string popcorn for our tree at Christmas! I believe we did it to keep 5 children busy, close the Cristmas in the late, late 60's and on. I've always continued on doing it and the youngest in the family periodically did it with her children and with a new neighbors daughter this past year. Great young memories - there would always be Chriatmas Specials in TV ( when there was only the 3 major stations and PBS station) the event was planned around the Specials because if you missed it when it was on there was no chance to watch again until the following year. Wow totally got off the foraging mushroom topic, but you as one of the younger generations that did this made my Heart Happy. Very much like the little happy squeals Elsa did everytime she found a Morrell. ❤ I love that Barron's name is now in the Channel name.
Made my mouth water, remembering hunting Morels under fallen trees in Michigan with my dad. He would flour, salt and pepper them and cook them in butter. YUM!!!
I’ve been picking these here in the northwest since I was a very small child and I still get just as excited each year as I did when I was young. It truly is the best fun there is. Glad you’ve found the magic
YUM!! Love, just LOVE morels. Also love chantrelles, and shaggy mane mushrooms. We also have a jar of dehydrated morels in our pantry. Can't thank you enough! Both of you are the sunshine and fresh air we need now, more than ever! 😎😊😋
Here in PA hunting morel mushrooms is a big spring time activity. We find them a lot around old dead elm trees and some in old apple orchards. Closely guarded secret spots of course. I've known people to drive an hour out of the way to make sure no one was tailing them to their morel spots. Enjoyed the upload.
Wow I never knew this was a thing I’m in Maryland and get these at the end of my yard that has a small forest behind my house and a small stream . I always mowed these over they don’t grow after spring I think latest I seen was June still having them pop up ! What do they taste like I need to do it now
So awesome you two! We’ve have an amazing season so far up in northern British Columbia, but this year it was more of a surprise than a wild hunt - we discovered hundreds of morels growing alongside our mulched berry patches that were put in last year. I think that the spore are ubiquitous in mulch/wood chips, it’s one of their favourite substrates to grow in. So if you two ever settle down and start to garden...mulch away and you may be gifted with a spring treat!
They cut them at the base and they used a mesh bag...I think they know how to help them proliferate and how many of them were unharvested and dry? Just enjoy the victory without the guilt. Save it for your kids.
@Gypsy Clipper You mean like the way the boomers didn’t give a shit about the planet and then left the Millenials to deal with the consequences? Yea, because that worked out really well.
Hi! I have watch some of your videos for a few weeks now and enjoy. I usually watch on my tv and not come online to post much, but after watching this one I thought I would share what I do with my morels! You CAN just pull the little bugs/grubs out of the morels, then wash and rinse as you were doing (waste not want not)!😉 They are wonderful cooked in with veggies, stir fries, omelettes, rices, gravy, pasta, pizza and even battered and fried! Fresh or rehydrated! When rehydrating you can just use water or mix of water, extra virgin olive oil, wines, beer and a variety of spices depending on how you want to use them. NEVER discard the rehydrating liquid! It holds tons of morel flavor (and whatever else you added). If there is any grit (if not cleaned well before hand) you can strain the liquid with cheese cloth or paper coffee filter. You can use this liquid by heating and/or reducing. Then use as tea, for stock in soups/stews, veggies, rice, pasta, mashed/boiled potatoes, gravy(pretty much anything you would normally use water just replace it with this for added nutritional/flavor boost). If you are not going to use it immediately, it will keep well chilled for a few days or it can be frozen for months (I use ice trays, then separate cubes into freezer bags)! I do the same thing with my dried chanterelles. Welcome to the wonderful world of morels! 😋
It looks like you found the secrete. Trained eyes, knowledge, and experience are your most important tools when foraging. This was a great video, Thankyou for sharing it.
This made me feel hungry, what a great and useful lock down past time and loads of fresh air. Please show us what you make with the one you kept. I would love to see you making some of your bead work and what you use. I am currently making pom pom clouds for my new baby grand daughters bedroom. Stay safe x
My dad and I have been morel hunting for a while now! My tips are search around dead elms and make sure to put them in some sort of breathable bag when collecting them so that the spores can still spread! And make sure you aren't picking false morels :)
I ended up learning about them last year and I told my dad about them.... and then THERE WAS SOME IN OUR BACKYARD!! It was unreal. So much fun to go mushroom hunting-especially these because they’re easy to identify.
Yes!! Morel hunting is a favorite hobby of mine and my husband! They also love dying (not dead) elm trees that’s bark is starting to fall off. They are like no mushroom I’ve ever eaten. We make a cream morel sauce to put on steak.
Here in the Appies, we "old timers" call them "land fish" and sometimes dip them in egg wash and roll them in corn meal, flour, salt and pepper mixture, fry in butter, fat or any type hot grease. Only takes a cpl min till golden brown...great side dish or even main course in place of meat. We also add them whole to meat stews.
Thanks guys, your video totally lifted me out of my negative mind chatter for 20 mins. That was like a meditation for me. Pure joy. Music was great too
We always soak them in salt water for a little while then cut and coat them in a little bit of flour before frying them in butter. They get so crispy and amazing they’re like candy almost!
All those trees were chared burnt from a fire. As I said before in an area where there was a large forest fire. The ash and cinder creates a neutral soil composition with low ph and mulch from trees to create beautiful mushrooms. Thus after the mushrooms other plants and trees can grow again. Nice filming I loved to see those morels again. :)
I remember when I could hunt even as a kid here in IL how exciting it was to find the first one. I know you cook healthy but if you want the way to cook them like here in the midwest, dip in egg milk and roll in flour and fry in butter then crack a couple eggs in with them. Oh my gosh my mouth is watering just talking about it. You are lucky the fellow shared his patch. Here people sell them for 50.00 a pound! So I go without for the 5th year in a row. Enjoy. Even dehydrated you can cook them up like I suggested. Love you guys..
Ah finally! I am so jealous! I am wondering what the thrill of it is for you two? For me it would not only be the rarity of the morels but also the ability and abundance of free food that is in nature. What a wonderful thing, I can't wait to see part 2.
WOW this was one of my fav videos of yours! So worth the wait and so freakin satisfying!! I can just feel the excitement and happiness radiating through this video.
I don’t know anything about mushrooms but hunting for them looks like a wonderful way to enjoy a beautiful day. It’s always fun to learn something new. Another super video thanks!
I absolutely love foraging! We spent last August in Montana and went crazy gathering huckleberries. Morels are are at the top of my foraging bucket list!
I grew up hunting and eating these as a id in western WA, my Grandpa was a master at finding them; they are awesome in scrambled eggs and also water bath canned, thanks for the fun video!
Also, you could make Mushroom Risoto, using Abairro Rice and red onions. When you rehydrate your Morels, Do it in warm water. Save the water and do a reduction on the water to capture all of the flavor. If you get dehydrated Crimmini & Shitakki mushrooms along with the Morels, you can make an EXCELLENT mushroom pizza. Just use your Iron Frying Pan with aluminum foil cover. I took a slit expanded metal screen from a pizza disk and put in the fry pan. I used a Bobilie pizza shell. I made my red sauce using the reduced mushroom water, tomato sauce, garlic, olive oil, and oregano. Pizzas at camp!!!
Oh my gosh! Those look AWESOME! Great finds! My inspiration for my love of nature is closely linked to foraging for Morels. When I was a little girl, my day would take me into the woods to hunt Morels. Those early trips into the woods are some of my fondest memories from childhood. Great video! Thanks for sharing. 👍
Here in Greece morel mushrooms go up to 100€ per 100gr of dried product. You won't find any fresh ones at the market since the are usually sold amongst mushroom connoisseurs. Congratulations Elsa!! They look amazing!
You two are so adorable! I love that Barron is getting more involved in narrating. My son and his girlfriend just remolded a camper to live in full time. I hope someday your paths will cross. I really think the four of you have a lot in common. He's from Colorado and she's from Portland and they met working for Backroads. Keep your eyes open for "Shilo"
I never thought I would be so caught up on watching mushrooms dry out. But, this was amazing, I enjoyed this video. Show me more, show me more. 😊Take care and be safe.
LMAO ELSA: It’s like um...string popcorn for Christmas BARRON: why would you ever do that? Omg that was GREAT! LMAO! I asked the same thing Barron...but it does look pretty and it a was a simple way to decorate a tree when people didn’t have money to buy ornaments. They used what they had. String, popcorn (that they grew themselves) and cranberries or a berry of some kind. It’s quite pretty for an outside tree and the winter birdies love it!
This is great guys! I love seeing people using what they have to get something done. I have utilized the dash technique many a time and the sun if you can! Jeep it up have fun!
This is so awesome!!!! Self sufficiency on the road!! During a scary time like this finding a food source away from people is so smart!! Me and my husband are trying our hand at becoming as self sufficient as possible growing lots of veg in our garden and keeping soon to be egg laying hens :) this has been so inspiring to me though and i definitely want to try and forage more!! There is so much food out there just waiting to be found!!
I loved this video. Very awesome. I think it's so cool how you just ran into somebody in the woods like a total stranger looking for morels and now you guys are cooking and eating and talking together awe... that's crazy and awesome at the same time like how often does that happen? I always get very inspired and uplifted when I watch your content so I literally save your videos for as long as possible haha got to save the best for last anyway I love your new picture and title and I thought it was adorable when Kamp decided to curl up underneath the bush after digging that was cute 🐕 God bless you guys! Stay safe... 😊💕🤘
That music at the beginning-music for triumph! "Forest Fairy"-how cute! I love mushrooms too! You make me want to go foraging for them! Take care and God bless you!
This is my first time to comment. I love watching you guys live your best life. I am officially obsessed with your videos. I started watching them in late March when I was off work due to covid. I would like to see you upgrade to a truck and Scamp 5th wheel. You deserve it after 4 years! Keep doing it exactly like you're doing it! 👍
Elsa’s excitement when she finds morels is so relatable! So fun to see how much joy it brings you guys & how you are preparing them! Jealous wish I found some this year, but I had no luck!
Welcome to the Morel Fan Club! 😊 If you come to N. Idaho, your next foraging thrill will be huckleberries! We all have our ‘secret’ patch and once you start, you can’t stop picking!
3rd time I’ve come back to this video, the happiness you radiate (Elsa!) makes me feel like I’m there! So happy to see you guys so happy about the morels, y’all make me want to try them so bad!💙
The Morel,s are so good to eat. I spray salt water to encourage the little buggers to emerge. Then we fry in oil in oil and garlic. Afterwards oh my I eat inhale savor every bit I can.
What a great episode! I really enjoyed it. This skill and knowledge will be an asset in the future. Thanks for showing us what to look for, and how it’s all done. Go For It

the pure JOY in this video is invigorating. and i've never heard of these little tasty morsels and i have SUCH A NEED 😂❤️
I grew up in Missouri and hunted morels every spring. I love the "what have we been doing all our lives?" exclamation. I can smell the morels frying and I am missing it so much! Enjoy! I am loving this video.

I had such fun watching you finding, cooking and eating them. Such joy.....what a welcome break for me to see this joy. Thank you.
Your face of excitement is contagious along with the foraging for mushrooms
I so related to your excited cries of joy each time you found one. I've done the same thing many times myself...finding those never gets old.
Exactly! You got it pin on!
I love how Elsa says “caught” mushrooms! Lol Great haul guys!
Ya their called, Dry land fish here in Virginia... Very tasty and people buy pounds of them here...
I love how Elsa says you guys caught the mushrooms. Don’t stop saying that. I love it. Go forth and catch!!!!
We used to get bags of them in Illinois. Egg wash with Salt/Pep, then flour and deep fry. So so good!
We dry them out, grind them up and put in a shaker. Great for burgers and seasoning foods. Love morels so much
I absolutely love foraging!
I have never wanted to eat a mushroom so bad in my life
Spent the day, yesterday, foraging morels with my littles! So fun! Alaska has some great areas for it.
Hmmm - Alaska!!!
I hunt morels every year. They are the best! Congratulations! Try them lightly dusted in flour or cornmeal.
We've been getting this suggestion a lot! Maybe we'll try it with our re-hydrated morels! Thank you!
I love it when Elsa screams in excitement. They look delicious.
We make our morels with butter, salt, and crunched up saltine crackers for a little crunch - so good!
We always cut them in half and soak them in salt water to kill the bugs . We also dipped the in flour and fry in butter . The taste like chicken 😋😋
I always fix "hickory chickens" aka morels with an egg wash first. Then a little flour, cornmeal, old bay seasoning, and a little hot pepper.
Anyone else drooling?!? Gee whiz!! I can smell the gralic and butter in that lovely cast iron....dang!!♡♡♡
Se los quiere chicos!! Me gusta verlos cuando hacen el desayuno y cuando cocinan tan nutritivo y práctico.❤
It's so fun to see you guys get so excited about something! It boosted my own energy watching you
“This is SO fun!” 😍😍I love you two! I am officially living vicariously through u both. Thank u for sharing!
Yay new name! Great video you guys!
I never thought I would be so caught up on watching mushrooms dry out. But, this was amazing, I enjoyed this video. Show me more, show me more. 😊Take care and be safe.
I just loved the ending. You are so talented young people. God bless you both.
LMAO
ELSA: It’s like um...string popcorn for Christmas
BARRON: why would you ever do that?
Omg that was GREAT! LMAO!
I asked the same thing Barron...but it does look pretty and it a was a simple way to decorate a tree when people didn’t have money to buy ornaments. They used what they had. String, popcorn (that they grew themselves) and cranberries or a berry of some kind. It’s quite pretty for an outside tree and the winter birdies love it!
Take them and roll them in egg 🥚 then in flour with salt 🧂 and pepper then frie them in Butter 🧈
Hunting mushrooms is pretty popular around here. We always dip them in flour and fry them in oil. So good.
My favorite is fried morsels. Found a giant basket of morels last year here in the midwest on one hunt. So excited for morels this year!
This is really fun to watch, especially after your live hangout right after foraging all of these. Beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
Awesome video, guys. I'm glad your continuing to live the dream. Happy hunting mushrooms, they looked delicious. Be safe, healthy and happy.
Love love love this video!! It's so cute how Elsa says "caught" the mushrooms...like she is the stealthy ninja "shroom warrior!! Awesome guys !!
This has to be my favorite channel and this episode is deff top 3 for me. Great work Elsa and Barron!!!
What a great episode! I really enjoyed it.
This skill and knowledge will be an asset in the future.
Thanks for showing us what to look for, and how it’s all done.
Go For It
Love morels! Been hunting them all my life. Nothing like tasting that first batch in the spring.
Mushrooms are meat of the land! Soooo cool!!
