The song's not about sports, but he uses his love for soccer teams as a metaphor for his love for her: "You're Celtic, United, but, baby, I've decided you're the best team I've ever seen."
Plus, there were no big bosom ladies with French accents on the soccer teams!
Isn't he talking about Britt Eckland? She was one of his true loves
@@patrickchachulski6804 that would be Dutch accents
@@sherryreiss4911 not sure about that because she's from Sweden.
True, the songs namesake Brit Ekland was also featured in his Tonight's the night video, but only shown from behind. That one was filmed before a fireplace.
Been a fan all my life!"The First Cut is the Deepest" is my all time favorite Rod song.
First Cut is a beautiful song.
@@judydalton3812 Written by Cat Stevens and covered by a lot of artists but Stewart's is one of the better ones.
SO GREAT!!! :)
LOVE IT❤❤❤
First Cut is the Deepest, sang by legends, icons. Originally by Cat Stevens, then covered by Rod Stewart and later by Sheryl Crow. I like Rod's and Sheryl's versions
This is one of the sweetest songs Rod Stewart ever sang. ❤
And forever young..
I remember this from A truck commercial when i was a kid in the 80s...😊
@@marieaug9322 I remember hearing it on the radio as a kid in the 70s...as well as a few of his other classics. Cool material.
@@captaincapitalism264 very classic... do you remember 🎶 if you think im sexy? Through me for a loop as a kid the video, but loved the bass.
@@marieaug9322 For certain! It demonstrated he & his band's versatility, didn't it?
@@captaincapitalism264 For sure. My maman who never took onto english just certain phrases at the end, at that point didn't speak it at all. She loved Blondie, Stewart and Mj. She really handled remote too at that point I was 6 so she put me on him.
According to Rod Stewart this song is about three women, two football teams and a country (Scotland). 😆
Brit Eckland, his gf at the time, was livid when she realized it was about Man Utd and Glasgow Celtic football teams in the song
@@josephphipps9226 Lol i had a bird like that too, she was only my 2nd love...Celtic FC my first.
I like both Celtic and United. Growing up and being born in the States this song was my 1st knowledge of football. Born in 72 it makes sense saying that, and I support both teams since. See more United here though
Dear God
I wrote down some of these lyrics and put them in my 1st loves casket.
He was only 34 💔💔💔
Awwww....so sorry Cindy
So sad to hear about your loss.
It was - definitely - about his lady! Specifically his girlfriend at the time, Britt Ekland. The football (soccer) reference was simply a metaphor.
She was actually, according to Rod and her in interviews, the most beautiful song he write until she realized it was about his 2 football teams
It was his gf that was the metaphore and she knew it...his current wife always knew she couldn't compete with Celtic FC so she just went with Rods flow and they been together for decades now.
Listen to “The first cut is the deepest”
A Cat Steven’s song originally
@@bobbo11357 Rod took that song to a different level from Cat Stevens original version.
@@garymcatear822 I agree
Sailing by Rod Stewart is a must
Yes, and few people remember this one.
First full song I learned to play on the guitar.
Jay & Amber, you'll love Rod's "Every Picture Tells A Story" and "Downtown Train" !!!
I am pretty sure they reviewed Downtown Train a long time ago.
Also, the killing of Georgie would be a great dong to react to.
Jeff Beck on the guitar too!
Amber.. in front of the fireplace was.. Tonight’s the night
Such a beautiful song by Rod Stewart!
Have you done “ Reason To Believe” yet? It’s Rod at his absolute best!
Not yet
Tonight’s the Night, I think is the one in front of the fire place
And it’s my other favorite
The Killing of Georgie is a beautiful tragic song.
You MUST listen to "You Wear It Well", my all time fave Rod Stewart song.
Love that .. comes straight in with the vocal ‘ I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon but to settle down and write you a line ‘
"Passion" is a great song by Rod Stewart, and one of those forgotten top 5 hits. That one should be next!!!
Oh, yes, indeed!!!
ANOTHER GREAT TUNE!!
Just don't watch the original video - you'll be too distracted by his dancing to pay attention to the music!
A great under looked album
❤
One of my favorite days started out with me arriving at a customer's house before they were awake.
Part of my task that day was to destroy a bunch of weeds along the east side of her house.
I got down on my knees and picked those weeds like I was a teenager, singing this song the whole time..
I thought I was being kinda quiet, but when I was done with the weeds, the lady and her tenants started clapping at me.
The legend rod Stewart.
Forever Young is a great one. My son and I danced to it at his wedding…
Forever Young is a beautiful song
About his son
They’ve reacted to it.
Live version of Rod singing Handbags and Gladrags with violins and the lyrics is a MUST.-
Country comforts is another favorite of mine. ❤
Sailing (or it could be I am Sailing) is another beautiful song by Rod Stewart.
Rod Stewart with Amy Belle - "I Don't Wanna Talk About It" -- a classic with a 1/3 of a billion plays.
I lied it is closing in on a billion.
I concur
That's a great song
The song you must check out is Georgie part 1-2 amazing story you will be shocked
From what I understand, Georgie was a real person and the song is based on real events. Yes, a must listen! ❤
Sailing, Mandolin Wind, and Handbags & Gladrags are all a must listen!
Not sure why, but this song reminds me of an old adage... 'Learn to love your spouse's little faults and ignore their big ones.' 😁
One of the most romantic songs ever written ❤
"Maggie May" from 1971 by Rod was the start of me becoming a big life long fan of his. It's about his time with an older woman. I was twelve years old when that song came out!
But "Forever Young" is the song I have always dedicated to my nieces and nephews of every age. Wonderful positive lyrics. That song came out in 1988.❤
All my other favorite Rod Stewart songs are from the 70's era. 😊
Reason to believe in my opinion, is one of his most beautiful ballads ever
I've had a crush on Rod for 45 years. "The First Cut is the Deepest" next please. ❤🔥
Jay / Amber.....you have not touched much on the Rod Stewart songbook yet.....keep going!! You will not be disappointed. 1970' and early 1980's. Many..many songs!
Mandolin Wind and Handbags and Glad rags are worthy of reacting!
I chased Rod Stewart down bourbon street New Orleans at Mardi Gras 2003 and sang this song to him. He and his bodyguard ran from me at top speed. I have it on video to prove it.
Your 15 SECONDS of Fame eh ? Lol sounds hysterical tho- I'd love to see that vid
Rod Stewart - in a broken dream. Well worth a listen.
Yes.. brilliant song, python lee Jackson with Rod doing vocal
Great shout, fantastic vocals, fantastic everything tbh.
Essential early Rod !!
This is about Britt Eckland.
Jay & Amber, One of Rod's blond girlfriends. She is a Swedish actress. She was in two of his music videos.
@@surlechapeauTonight’s The Night is the other.
I saw Rod at the Cow Palace in 1975 a few months before Ronnie Wood departed for the Rolling Stones, It was such a great concert. I remember Rod was wearing a purple outfit, top and bottom, kind of a silky outfit. Very cool..I have loved all his music from the beginning. You must listen to Every Picture Tells A Story. What a Rockin song
Rod Stewart is a iconic legend nothing he can't sing BTW "Tonight's the Night" is the fireplace song
My Cousin seen Rod Stewart in the 1980's and said it was the best concert he'd ever been to. And he loved music and had been to hundreds of concerts.
I also saw him in the 80s at Celtic Park, Glasgow. He apologised for his voice as he’d had a bad cold, but I can’t say I noticed a difference!
I, too, saw Rod Stewart in concert in the 80's. His was the best concert I've been to.
I saw him twice in the 70's, yes, one of my top three concerts I have seen all time!
Saw him last year, Great concert.
“Sailing” by Rod Stewart is a must!
Yep - another ' My Favorite ' - how many ' my favorite ' songs can you have ?
Sports was a metaphor for the love he felt for her
Rod Stewart's version of 'Downtown Train' from 1989 is one of my favorites.
Mandolin Wind is one of his best .
Next Up - I Was Only Joking
My favorite
Love, love, love, some Rod Stewart. Some suggestions.
EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY,
INFATUATION,
BORN LOOSE,
CRAZY ABOUT HER,
& STAY WITH ME. You're gonna love these songs. I promise. Keep going and enjoy
Have I Told You Lately that I Love You is one of my favorite of his. There's also a song, I think the title is Sailing by Rod. That's a good one too.
We played this at my mums funeral. She loved Rod Stewart. We all had a giggle at the Big Bosom Lady bit
He wrote this song about a slightly older model Brit Ekland whom he was dating at the time, he makes the soccer reference because he’s a fan of that too, (he also played soccer, not sure professional but enjoyed playing) comparing her to his favorite teams😅Rod’s romantic life is like a soap opera, he’s had quite a few famous romances since this song, I think his kids ages may span quite a few decades by his various exwives & current wife too!
"Rhythm of My Heart" is my favorite Rod Stewart.
The song's full title is You're in My Heart (The Final Acclaim).
My favorite Rod Stewart song :) You'll also love Young Turks, and Have I Told You Lately, which is another wonderful ballad.
Rod surprised everyone by recording an entire album of standards in 2022, it was a huge hit, so he recoprded four more albums. So the rocker became a crooner.
The Killing of Georgie is an important one by Sir Rod.
I love this song so much. "You'll be my breathe should I grow old..." When Rod started recording the American Songbook series, he reached Crooner Status for me.
thats a good song..well written from the1st time I heard it in the 70s....another great song from this albim is " I WAS ONLY JOKING"
I love his diction, you can hear every word. Amazing lyrics too.
RSR: What can't Rod Stewart do?
A few years back, he debuted an album "The Great American Songbook" featuring OG songs that Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, etc. have sung. Yes, he officially became a "crooner" a few years back. I love that album. Try one of those songs.
If I'm not mistaken, there are four or five volumes in his "Great American Songbook" series, plus he just released an album of swing tunes.
This is probably my favorite song of his.
Rod the Mod! This is a late 70's tune. 70's Rod happens to be my favorite, but it's all magnificent. Rod wanted to be a professional soccer player as a teenager. He is still a huge soccer fan. He supports the Celtic (a Scottish team) and Manchester United (an English team). Both are mentioned in the song. I saw him in 1996, and all during his concert he kicked soccer balls out into the crowd. I've seen recent interviews where he's wearing a gold necklace with "Celtic." Did you guys know he just a released an album of swing tunes? I've listened a couple of times, and, yes, he's darn good at it. It's called "Swing Fever." It's like 1940's big band swing. "Tonight's the Night" was released on the album after this one (Foot Loose and Fancy Free). It is also one great tune. Gotta get Amber to like that one a little bit more.
Ah. One of my favourites by him. It makes my heart smile.
Beautiful song from 1977. I've always loved this song.
It’s my favorite Rod Stewart song… Came out when I was in the eighth grade
The legendary Rod Stewart! Please try "Gasoline Alley" and "Every Picture Tells a Story".
He’s a legend! Love him
Reason To Believe is another great song by Rod
A big bosomed lady with a Dutch accent - if that describes a soccer team, I'm going to start watching soccer.
amazing! I'm gay-and even I'M going to start watching! it just sounds too crazy! and I've heard about that certain dutch lady since my childhood when this song came out-so I want to get a good luck at this fabled dame! thanks for posting!!
Ha ha ha ha
@@user-kv2tj4du8pI’m gay, that’s why I watch, the mens….
The big bosomed lady tried to take him away from this true love. Though it could also be a sexy Dutch team, I suppose.
This has been mentioned before but as parents I think you'll love "Forever Young"
Rod was my first concert at about age 14? 15?.....his "Do you think I'm sexy" years. Sometime in the 70's.
I once saw Rod Stewart at traffic lights in Stockport in an antique car. I was excited to see him he just smiled to himself.
Rod Stewart, David Bowie ,Sting.....fantastic
If you love this review Rhythm of my heart!!!! You'll love it!! This was one of my favorites!!!! Love you guys!!!!
Probably the bext he's ever done
Great Rod Stewart song!!
Rod is always outstanding...I've been rocking to Rod since the late 60's from Faces to his solo career.
My aunt passed away in September. She loved this song and all of Rod’s music. This song is elegantly beautiful and will always bring a tear to my eyes.
It was a love song. The Celtic and United reference was followed by "you're the best team I've ever seen"
Great song! Have you all done "Reason to Believe " and "Stay with me" they great songs from Rod Stewart?
My grandma loved this song. Rod was kind of wild bohemian looking (for back then) so her liking it tickled little kid me.
I wore out the single playing this over and over in my room. ❤ His voice!❤ 🔥
Always loved this Rod Stewart tune! You’re right that he can do anything. Maybe you could listen to The First Cut Is The Deepest and The Killing Of Georgie Parts 1&2.
I love Rod Stewart. He can sing just about anything. His voice is suited for so many genres. A few favorites for me are, I Was Only Joking, I Don’t Wanna Talk About It, Someone To Watch Over Me, The Killing of Georgie and Broken Arrow.
❤Classic Rod. One of his best. 😂😂😂😂It is a love song. 🚫⚽️
You're talking about the song tonight's the night..Rod Stewart
It was supposed to have been written for former girlfriend Brit Ekland.
I went out with her for a bit too
🤪
Rods ,S ,song I DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. huge hit in the 70s YOUL love it Amber .70s Gold
-" i dont want to talk-
-about it "- 💯🤘🔥
I remember Britt. Who wouldn't be obsessed with that cutie? She was finer than frog hair split nine ways.@@loverofsong9830
I've seen Rod Stewart live several times. During a concert he would take a soccer ball and bounce it off his knee, chest etc and then kick it out into the audience, He would do about a half dozen at each concert. Judging by his ball handling skills, he was a good soccer player.
OMG! I had forgot about this song. It brings back so many memories of high school. Thank you!
My favorite Rod Stewart song. I was so glad to see this. 😊
😮 During this era, no one had more top 40 hits than Rod, not even the Bee Gee's😮
Nonsense. BG's had more.
Stay away from Rod Stewart, Amber! That's my man! ❤ 😂
"Downtown Train", which was a song written by Tom Waits and one of Rod's biggest '80s hits. You should give Tom another chance, his music is pretty great. "Hold On" and "Take it With Me" would be my first suggestions.
Yes please, some Tom Waits on this channel! No one can resist his voice. "The The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me)" is a good one too.
Rod Stewart, many great songs, love this on!❤❤❤
P.S. I think the song you were referencing was "Tonight's The Night". Two more of his slower songs you two would k=love are "Handbags And Gladrags" and "Little Miss Understood".
That’s all be great for a wedding song
Hi Guys Greetings From England 🇬🇧 This Was Rods Love Song To His Girlfriend Britt Eckland who was a Dutch Actress and Beautiful Bond Girl!!! Britt was The Love of Rods life but sadly they broke up because of Rods Roving Eye for The Ladies!!! Rods second Love is Celtic Football Club and he is an absolute Foitball Fanatic hence the football reference in the video and you should check out Rods song "The Killing of Georgie" its such a great song and so unlike Rods other songs and you will see yet another side of Rods style of singing.
Britt Ekland (born Britt-Marie Eklund; 6 October 1942) is Swedish.
I think you should hear Rod’s “Do You Think I’m Sexy “. If we had to listen to it, you can too, lol.
I like it. Just Rod. Lol
Love this song!! Favorite Rod Stewart song Young Turks. You two would love it!
I saw Rod in concert in the eighties across the river in Detroit. When this song came up in his slower set every could was embracing, singing and swaying. I have been to so many concerts and his was without a doubt one of the most entertaining of all time. I is a great entertainer. "In Rod I Trust" . Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
A childhood favorite. I didn't understand the lyrics as a child, but thought it was about true friends. ♥ I've always loved how the violin laughs! 🥰
Love this song
Downtown Train is another one of his best.
The sport reference is just a metaphor. God I love this song, so sweet, so swoony ❤️
This song takes me back to good times in the 70’s. Rod Stewart had his hay day, we all liked him…Maggie was a hit first.👍💙💖🌸🌸
This man does such fantastic stuff! If I had to pick my favorites, I'd say they would be "I Was Only Joking," "Some Guys Have All The Luck," "Passion," and "Stay With Me," when he was with The Faces.
"It's not the spotlight"... My fav ild Rod song ❤
I saw him live once - way back in the seventies. He was unbelievably great!
