One of my favorite Rod Stewart songs is "Have I told you lately that I love you?" Such a beautiful sentiment.
Agreed. Elvis also had a great version.
One that I've always loved is My heart can't tell you no
Van Morrison covered it as well. Awesome song.
Yes
@@billyjack2731 Noooooo Rod Stewart actually covered Van Morrison 👍❤️
Those bagpipes! I love this song. I have to crank the radio up every time it comes on. This and Forever Young are my absolute favorites of Rod Stewart.
Love love love the bagpipes!
I want bagpipes at my funeral and guys in kilts carrying me home!
This song was huge among Iraq war and other veterans. Amber got it once again!
Rod Stewart is Rod Stewart. An absolute legend. Can't go wrong with Rod Stewart. Love it!
-definetly !-
Rod just got better over the years. Loved him in the 1970s. Love him now.
You Wear It Well
Mandolin Wind
Tonight's The Night
Maggie May
This was dedicated to all the soldiers by Rod Stewart for services past and present. The lyrics are incredible and Rod's emotional voice sets the cadence for this amazing tribute to our soldiers.
Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I'm with you, Mary. I know everyone will disagree, but as an old-timer, I prefer the rocking Rod Stewart from his days with The Faces and early solo material like "Maggie May". I still remember when that and "Mandolin Wind" were first on the radio. Those were the days when I got to lie on my bed late at night and listen to KMPX in SF play complete albums uninterrupted like "Led Zeppelin" and "Tommy" by The Who.
@@Dragonsinger71 yep..Mary and Joe. As a boomer I lean toward his early music. Still, this is a beautiful song as are his later hits. Gravely voice and all...he can sing anything. Regards from Wisconsin
@@Dragonsinger71 Me too. The oldies are the best.👍✌️🎶🇨🇦
@@carolmartin4413 Hi Carol. I agree, his sexy raw vocals are so appealing. Stay warm. 👍✌️🎶🇨🇦
Speaking of the dedication, I cry every time I watch this video from thinking of the soldiers, sailors, and airmen who never made it home alive. “All gave some, some gave all.”
The melody is an adaptation of "Loch Lomond". The meter, stanzas and lyrics are also based on the poem, a nod to Stewart's own Scottish heritage, so it is tribute to soldiers who fought for Scottish independence like in Braveheart
It's actually a Canadian song, written by Marc Jordan and John Capek. I heard it by Marc Jordan live in 2003. There's a lot of Scottish influence in Canada's east coast music scene. (Nova Scotia means "New Scotland," after all).
@@howardhales6325 But they used an obvious adaption of the melody and the Loch Lomond poem when they wrote it which in itself is a Jacobite adaptation of an eighteenth-century erotic song so the original ownership has been blurred many times, from Scotland, Ireland, England, probably Australia and New Zealand also
As a former military member, I can tell you that words cannot express how it feels to return home after being gone for so long. But this song perfectly captures that narrative. And Amber…you made ME cry 😆
XO
This is one of Rod Stewart's best of his later material. This song struck me as an ode to his native Scotland. The instrumentation and rhythms make this song a great singalong like Billy Joel's "Piano Man" even without it occurring near the end.
rod didn't write this song. it was sent to him. i listen to talk radio when i'm on hunting/hiking trips. one day, the guest was the guy who wrote this song. his people had sent it to rod, i don't even know if the guy was aware or not. well, one evening, he's sitting at the dinner table with his wife and the phone rings. his wife was like, 'no, your not taking this, we're eating'. he's 'i really have to take this i think'. he then has a great conversation with rod, about the song, etc. the line i remember from that, was that rod told him, "i can sing the F outta this song".
Rod is not Scottish, he was born in England, now he loves Scotland for sure but born in London.
@@moodaymoom2271 definitely English born to an English mother and Scottish father, though all his siblings were born in Scotland I think but I’m also pretty sure that they’re quite a bit older than him.
@@lynnejamieson2063 Yes, you're right, Lynne. His two sisters and two brothers were born in Scotland and Rod was born after they moved to London. Rod was about 8 years younger than his closest sister. To this day, he's a regular in Glasgow as he travels up to see Celtic - brings his 2 youngest sons to the matches. Rod also supports Scotland at football (never England) and we'd regularly see him at international matches, with his 2 brothers. All three were fitba' crazy.
Hees English born in london
That's 'Sir' Rod Stewart. He was knighted in 2016. R&R HOF 1996. Musical royalty for sure. ☮💜🎶
Love Rod Stewart! All his music ✌❤🎶 His voice takes me back to the 70s ☺️
60s for me. First saw Rod in 1964, in the Bromel Club in the basement of The Bromley Court Hotel, in Bromley, near London. it was a great jazz, blues and the early days of UK R'n'B venue. He was the backing singer for his mentor, Long John Baldrey (and his band - The Hoochie Coochie Men). In those days, in clubs, the band played 2 sets. Long John's throat was playing up and for the 2nd set Rod took the vocals, along with the bass player (a black American guy called Paul Williams) who also had a great voice. Blew us all away. he'd been great in the first set, as a backing/harmony but on his own? Just magic.
His single - 'Good Morning Little Schoolgirl' came out some time later that year. I was back in Glasgow, by then and had to order it at a record shop in town - he was still pretty much unknown, away from London.
One of my favorite Stewart songs is The First Cut Is the Deepest. Cat Steven’s original is great but I love Rod’s version.
Agreed!
PP Arnold’s version is the one for me.
@@Dreyno l was also going to say PP Arnold's version is the one for me.
I know most people won’t agree, but Sheryl Crowe’s version is very good too!!!
"People get ready" from Rod is the perfect song to fully enjoy his voice.
Very soulful and raspy.
I second this, his voice and Jeff Beck's (RIP) guitar make this song a must listen.
Even for a Curtis Mayfield/Impressions nut, like me, I also love Rod's version. Like so many British band guys of the 60s he loved r'n'b and soul.
ROD AND JEFF !!!! IS A PERFECT SONG !!! GREAT YEAR 1985
OMG if u like this side of him his song Sailing will blow u away. Get out the tissues!😊❤
I don't think there's single mediocre song on "Atlantic Crossing". All fantastic.
Love that song so much❤
@@DeannaFiedler Me, too!
"Some Guys Have All The Luck" is a great early 80s New Wave song by Rod!
I believe they have done that one.
You should listen to him and Jeff Beck's version of "People Get Ready". IMO Stewart's all time best vocals.
My mother adored that song. We played it when we scattered her ashes.
I wish they would, I've suggested it a number of times.
💯 Absolutely... and for Jeff Beck's passing on January 10th this year 🙏❤️🎸 @RobSquadReactions
@@magneto7930 Myself as well. Just did it before I read your comment.
@@ShannonR1969 Me too, I guess we'll have to keep asking please until it happens.
"I was only joking" in my opinion is one of his best songs ..Worth a look...The guitar solo is something else
I recently saw rod’s guitarist Jim Cregan with his own band and they played this and that solo was sublime. He also did “ come up and see me ,make me smile” from cockney rebel ,and it was that solo that made his career take off. Well worth a listen
Agreed the guitar solo is magnificent.
You're in my Heart by Rod Stewart is another great song!
As a young adult who lost 2 friends in Nam, any tribute to those who walked the walk/served in wars for us...thanks to Rod for doing what we should have done...honored them. Beautiful song
Thank you for your tribute to your friends. May they rest in power. ❤️
This song is essentially "Celtic Rock" and reflects Stewart's Scottish roots. The melody is an adaptation of the traditional Scottish song, "Loch Lomond", and has been recorded by the Scottish band Runrig as well as Scottish pipe bands. The Scots love their anthemic music and they love to sing along!
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Every Picture Tells A Story" and "Downtown Train" !!!
edit- Rhythm Of My Heart was written by Marc Jordan and John Capek.
Oh "Downtown Train" is awesome x10000
Downtown Train, originally a Tom Waits song
@@Guildofarcanelore I've heard the Patty Smyth version as well from 1987.
Mandolin Wind is one of my favorites. Every song on his first album "Every Picture Tells a Story" is great!
Two of my favorites that they haven’t yet reacted to are SAILING and YOU’RE IN MY HEART.
I love this man! I played this album "Vagabond Heart" (1991) over and over on the car cassette player. You got it Amber. Rod dedicated it to the soldiers of the world. The bagpipes do me in. They are a shout out to his Scottish heritage. The beat feels like marching to me. Marching home.
Best albumhe has ever made and if only the best ballad ever:
Another rock and roll immortal. The cat has just always resonated with me since the early 70's. My favourite is still Hot Legs. It's got that boogie rythm and blues to it. By the same token his mellow songs just kick ass as well!'🤟🤟
_#cheers_
😻😻😻
His song Passion is incredible
My father requested this song be played at his funeral, so it brings me to tears every time. It’s eerie how many times his six children are together and this song will randomly come on the radio. ❤
Rod Stewart's voice was once described this way by a musician I cannot name for I have forgotten their identity: "sandpaper mixed with soul." I can't describe his voice any better than that. Truly a beautiful, beautiful tenor.
I remember that quote and, like you, can't remember who made it. If I want to conjure up a name, it'd be Long John Baldry, as I can just picture him saying it, in that spoken voice of his.
LOL - like he got his nuts caught in a blender was another description. I love Rod Stewart. From Maggie May to his latest stuff. I was lucky enough to see him in concert on the Blondes Have More Fun Tour (yes I'm old). He was fantastic. He is a showman.
A lady from England here ...... so many lovely memories from my teens in the 70 s from you two lovely people 💕 thank you for keeping this era and 80 s , 90 s, etc. alive for us ! I love you two.... my favourite reaction channel. Thank you.
Rod's greatest vocal performance, IMHO, is still "In a Broken Dream," in which he was the guest vocalist for Python Lee Jackson.
I gotta tell you. This song is my absolute favorite of all time. I can never listen to it without tearing up and feeling happy all at the same time. This is a song that, when the first notes sound, I hush everyone up so i can listen to it undisturbed. Like "shh...gimme five minutes and we can pick up where we left off when it's over." Lol When the notification popped up, I couldn't wait to get to hearing it.
Handbags and Gladrags is another great song by Rod.
The first cut is the deepest- Rod at his best.
My friend is a massive Rod fan, she was with her family on holiday in Spain... and he was in the same restaurant... she sent her son to ask for his autograph... he came over sat at her table and just chatted for a good while... Needless to say she got her autograph and a kiss to boot.
Great reaction Amber and Jay! This is one of Rod Stewart's best and most beautiful songs. I would suggest reacting to "Downtown Train" and "Reason To Believe" if you want to listen to more songs by him showing his softer and sentimental side. "Downtown Train" is one of his best songs from later in his career.
INCREDIBLE SONG !!!! ROD STEWART IS SIMPLY THE BEST 🌟🌟🌟 OH MY GOD .....BEAUTIFUL SONG !!!! THANKS♥
Yes this song was very big among us guys in Afghanistan when I served there! Thank you for reacting to it! Thank your family as well for their service. My dad and grandfather served also!
I remember this song from the movie "The perfect storm." You guys should check it out.
That movie made me fall in love with Diane Lane. 😍
@@jeffniznick9280
Yeah she's definitely easy on the eyes.
@@Guiltless765
Natural beauty. No stupid lip enlargement, breast enhancement, etc.
The Motown Song, Passion, and Infatuation are 3 Rod Stewart songs you should add to your list. I know you will love them.
Of all the classics he has made...this one has to be his absolute best.
I love this song with those bag pipes! The eighties was a great decade for Rod Stewart! I love his voice! You should react to “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You”! It’s a beautiful song! Also, check out “Some Guys Have All the Luck!”❤❤
Any thing Rod Stewart gets to My Heart ❣️❣️❣️🤗
So many great Rod Stewart songs. For your next venture, I recommend "Baby Jane", "Passion", or "Tonight I'm Yours (Don't Hurt Me)". Or perhaps "The Motown Song". P.S. Jay, this is a 90s song. :)
I love "Tonight I'm yours" and "Baby Jane". I also love "Infatuation" and "Lost in you" 👍🏻
This is another great song, with the chorus based on an old sea shanty. If you haven't listened to "Sailing" by Rod yet, please do! I think you will love it!
Also, please listen to Dragonforce, "Through the Fire and the Flame." It will amaze you!
Rod is excellent. Ooh La La, Cigarettes and Alcohol, Downtown Train. I could go on and on. I owned his greatest hits collection and I believe it was on 4 CD's. That's a lot of hits!
The great Rod Stewart songs just never end. Every time you one of his songs, I highly recommend that you listen to "Have I Told You Lately". One of his very very best love songs. You really should watch the live "Unplugged" version. Others, just to name a few, "First Cut is the Deepest", "Reason to Believe", "The Killing of Georgie", and "Sailing"......etc. etc.
Just saw him in Vegas over the summer! AWESOME show!! He still sounds this good even at his age!! Love him!!!
Absolutely love this song! One of my very favorites. His version of "Have I Told You Lately" undoes me every time; his voice and the emotions and the lyrics turn me all soft and smiley. Rod Stewart is absolutely a treasure!
This is one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs! When it came out, I was on active duty (Navy) and also happened to be on maternity leave. Operation Desert Storm was in full swing at the time. I knew quite a few people that had been deployed, and there was a very real possibility that I might be deployed as soon as I came off maternity leave and have to leave my husband, pre-school son, and newborn daughter for several months. Between the Viet Nam images in the video and post-pregnancy hormones, I would dissolve into tears every time the song came on the radio. It still chokes me up. So glad you picked it to listen to today!
Rod Stewart is one of the most distinctive singers and his influence on Rock's music was great. Cooperation with Jeff Beck, Ron Wood ranks him among the greatest legends of rock music. I think you should play him more often because he had big and beautiful songs when he did his solo career. His songs are immortal….
Rod Stewart is just so amazing! I love his older songs as well as his newer versions of old songs. Check out his Songbook Trilogy Collection.
Like you, I love Rod’s distinctive, gravelly voice. You know Ros Stewart immediately. Would love to see your reaction to the Motown song. Reminds me of this song. Love your channel. Thanks for this. 👏👏🇨🇦
I haven’t heard this song in so long. It holds up! Great reaction!,
I don't see it mentioned here but my favorite Rod Stewart song since I was a little girl is "My heart can't tell me no" i'ts such a beautiful ballad about loving someone who loves someone else and also has one of my favorite music videos!
a very special song. bagpipes.. intro.. the voice.. those romantic lyrics..
Rod Stewart lives near me (ordinary town in the UK) and his child is in a local school. He turns up to every sports match his child is in and stands on the side, in the freezing, rainy, UK weather, just like every other parent, cheering on his child’s team.
He is mostly left alone but happy to take selfies and have a chat if anyone asks. He’s just really normal, no attitude at all. Nice bloke. 👍
The song was definitely big with soliers in the military (and their families). However, the song was originally recorded by a Dutch artist in the mid 60s. Rod Stewart chose to cover the song on his 1992 album as a nod to his Scottish heritage because the melody is based on a Scottish folk song "Loch Lomond" (you could check out a great a capella cover of that done by Peter Hollens singing all the voice parts here on UA-cam and hear the similarities in the melody)
Rod Stewart and Glass Tiger have another touching song called
My Town…. Amazing vocals on this song as well..
Was always my favorite Rod Stewart song.
Whenever I hear his voice I say to myself, "well, hello, old friend" His voice is just so comforting and soothing like an old friend. What a legend he is. I highly recommend People Get Ready. You will love it!
I HIGHLY recommend seeing Rod in concert while you still have a chance. The man is 78 years old and STILL sounds AMAZING live, still kicks Soccer balls into the crowd. He was my late wife's favorite and we had seen him every chance we had over our 20 years together and have seen him both chances I have had since...
He puts on an incredible show, if yall can go see him GO !!!!
From the UK here. Loved Rod from when he was in The Faces. He lived in Windsor back then near to where I lived. In his 70s he is very into the environment filling in potholes in the road. His wife is a special police officer out on patrol. Fabulous couple who believe in community. Thank you for playing this.
I love his voice ❤Amber your heart is so pure ✝️
As far as his softer side, Have I Told You Lately That I Love You is one of my favs. Such beautiful song.
Guys check out “Every Picture Tells A Story “. Classic Rod from 1971
Love Rod Stewart! Oh gosh, I can’t remember the name of the song my kids loved by him… “Bring over some of your old Motown records, we’ll put the speakers in the window and we’ll go- on the roof and listen to the Miracles echo in the alley down below” Anybody??
My heart can't tell you no.... Another I bet you'd like from Rod.
Thank you for playing this one. Iwas singing along because it is my favorite Rod Stewart song. Forever Young is good too.
I'm not crying! You're crying! 😭 ...
...when Amber cries tears of joy, we all cry tears of joy. ❤✌
I fell in love with Rod Stewart's voice and music in 1972 as a 12-yr-old and have enjoyed that personal live affair for 50 years now. My favorite RS song is Mandolin Wind, a beautiful ballad he wrote "sung from the point of view of an aging farmer husband. The song is a tribute to his loyal wife who stays by his side during a horrendous winter on the farm." (per Songfacts) The lyrics are tender and beautiful.
Other great RS songs to be enjoyed? Gasoline Alley, Handbags and Gladrags, Stay With Me, You Wear it Well, Reason to Believe, (I Know) I'm Losing You, I Was Only Joking, You're in My Heart. Etc!
I finally got to see him in concert in my hometown in the mid-90s and that man is a true performer. He does not disappoint! If you get the chance to see him...do it! You will be glad you did. Blessings to you and your li'l family ♡♡♡
As always Amber, you articulate your feelings to songs so well. So genuine, luv it. ❤️
my heart can't tell me no is another good one by Rod
When a song makes you FEEL you know it's great!
This is my favorite Rod song, and he has many, many good ones. Just love the whole vibe. Two words...Bagpipes...chills.
I love Rod Stewart, his songs got me through the 70's, especially "You Wear It Well".
rod stewart every beat of my heart is another along the same lines when you listen to its lyrics
Another great one is "Downtown Train" or "Sailing" both are real gems. The one and only Rod..."The Tartan Terror"
This is how it's done. I have heard this song many times and always get emotional.
The thing about Rod is SOUL listen close u'll always hear & Feel it!!!
Rod can be whatever you want him to be, sexy, happy, sad, deep, there’s a song for every mood……..
Jay and Amber, be thankful you have the opportunity to listen to these great legends of Rock n' Roll music now! Sir Rod Stewart is one of the greatest legends of our time! I first heard of Rod Stewart in the 1970s and kept on going from there! It has been years since I have listened to this song and watched the video! What a timestamp of when this song came out! Thank you both for reacting to this song! Enjoyed your reaction! ☮💕
First cut is the deepest...is one y'all would truly enjoy...
Excellent song! Rod's voice is unmistakable and he's had some great hits. There are a lot of great song recommendations in the comments. One that I don't think many remember and, in my opinion, his most beautiful song, "My Heart Can't Tell You No." This would be my vote for the next RS song to check out. :) Thanks for the uploads!
My favorite Rod song!
Absolutely one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs. That takes me back. I've had family that have been military and it's hard to understand what sacrifices are made by such great people. Love the sincerity you guys have. Was cheering for your Bengals too. Sorry they didn't make it.
A credit to his Scottish family!
Dig into his many Scottish songs.
This one made me cry, remembering my mom singing along in the car. Missing her today and everyday
Rod has been one of my all time favorite voices ever since the 60’s❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
People get ready with Jeff Beck is amazing
Rod is my personal favorite, for decades now. Just...yeah...can't go wrong.
You can't never go wrong with Rod. I recommend "Downtown Train" and "The Killing of Georgie part I and II" next.
Greetings from Brazil!
This is my favorite Rod Stewart song (followed closely by "Forever Young" & "Young Turks"). The lyrics of "The rhythm of my heart, is beating like a drum. With the words I love you rolling off my tongue" just tug at my heartstrings every time I hear it. He truly taps into his Scottish roots with the bagpipes. Another Scottish group that taps into that bagpipes sound (using guitars in a definitely 80's vibe) that I think you'd also like is Big Country. You should give their song "In a Big Country" a listen.
It hit you because it's originally a Scottish song called "Loch Lomond", and anything Irish and Scottish will make you cry every single time.
Thank you to all that have served your country, wherever that may be.
Rod has always been my favorite artist saw him many times in the 70's his voice is the best ever love it
Been a fan of Rod's since the late 70s- he's a treasure 👍!!!
Thanks for this choice! I had let this song slip from my memory for a few years - - I had forgotten how incredibly Rod's voice soars in that beautiful chorus!
Rod is everything. Fantastic song! 💙💜💚
I never get tired of hearing that. 😘
Yeah - Dig those bagpipes! This is a song of 'going home', spiritually, or physically. For an earlier one - check out EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY, from the album of the same name, and listen for the 'vocal abrasives' provided by the great Maggie Bell.
"Lost In You" is upbeat and "Passion" is a groove.
The chorus vocal melody is taken from: ""The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond"
