Those bagpipes! I love this song. I have to crank the radio up every time it comes on. This and Forever Young are my absolute favorites of Rod Stewart.
My friend is a massive Rod fan, she was with her family on holiday in Spain... and he was in the same restaurant... she sent her son to ask for his autograph... he came over sat at her table and just chatted for a good while... Needless to say she got her autograph and a kiss to boot.
60s for me. First saw Rod in 1964, in the Bromel Club in the basement of The Bromley Court Hotel, in Bromley, near London. it was a great jazz, blues and the early days of UK R'n'B venue. He was the backing singer for his mentor, Long John Baldrey (and his band - The Hoochie Coochie Men). In those days, in clubs, the band played 2 sets. Long John's throat was playing up and for the 2nd set Rod took the vocals, along with the bass player (a black American guy called Paul Williams) who also had a great voice. Blew us all away. he'd been great in the first set, as a backing/harmony but on his own? Just magic. His single - 'Good Morning Little Schoolgirl' came out some time later that year. I was back in Glasgow, by then and had to order it at a record shop in town - he was still pretty much unknown, away from London.
You Wear It Well Mandolin Wind Tonight's The Night Maggie May This was dedicated to all the soldiers by Rod Stewart for services past and present. I'm with you, Mary. I know everyone will disagree, but as an old-timer, I prefer the rocking Rod Stewart from his days with The Faces and early solo material like "Maggie May". I still remember when that and "Mandolin Wind" were first on the radio. Those were the days when I got to lie on my bed late at night and listen to KMPX in SF play complete albums uninterrupted like "Led Zeppelin" and "Tommy" by The Who.

This is one of Rod Stewart's best of his later material. This song struck me as an ode to his native Scotland. The instrumentation and rhythms make this song a great singalong like Billy Joel's "Piano Man" even without it occurring near the end.
rod didn't write this song. it was sent to him. i listen to talk radio when i'm on hunting/hiking trips. one day, the guest was the guy who wrote this song. his people had sent it to rod, i don't even know if the guy was aware or not. well, one evening, he's sitting at the dinner table with his wife and the phone rings. his wife was like, 'no, your not taking this, we're eating'. he's 'i really have to take this i think'. he then has a great conversation with rod, about the song, etc. the line i remember from that, was that rod told him, "i can sing the F outta this song".

Rod Stewart lives near me (ordinary town in the UK) and his child is in a local school. Great reaction Amber and Jay! This is one of Rod Stewart's best and most beautiful songs. I would suggest reacting to "Downtown Train" and "Reason To Believe" if you want to listen to more songs by him showing his softer and sentimental side. "Downtown Train" is one of his best songs from later in his career.
I think this is one of the most perfect songs ever, for me anyway. It makes my heart happy. I get chills when he says he's got lightening in his veins!
Thanks for this choice! I had let this song slip from my memory for a few years - - I had forgotten how incredibly Rod's voice soars in that beautiful chorus!
Jay and Amber, be thankful you have the opportunity to listen to these great legends of Rock n' Roll music now! Sir Rod Stewart is one of the greatest legends of our time! Loe Rod Stewart, always have, saw him in concert Awesome concert, my dream come true. I used to have posters on my room when I was younger. Still them.
It hit you because it's originally a Scottish song called "Loch Lomond", and anything Irish and Scottish will make you cry every single time. Thank you to all that have served your country, wherever that may be.
I fell in love with Rod Stewart's voice and music in 1972 as a 12-yr-old and have enjoyed that personal live affair for 50 years now. My favorite RS song is Mandolin Wind, a beautiful ballad he wrote "sung from the point of view of an aging farmer husband. The song is a tribute to his loyal wife who stays by his side during a horrendous winter on the farm." (per Songfacts) The lyrics are tender and beautiful. Other great RS songs to be enjoyed? Gasoline Alley, Handbags and Gladrags, Stay With Me, You Wear it Well, Reason to Believe, (I Know) I'm Losing You, I Was Only Joking, You're in My Heart. Etc! I finally got to see him in concert in my hometown in the mid-90s and that man is a true performer. He does not disappoint! If you get the chance to see him...do it! You will be glad you did. Blessings to you and your li'l family ♡♡♡
This song is essentially "Celtic Rock" and reflects Stewart's Scottish roots. The melody is an adaptation of the traditional Scottish song, "Loch Lomond", and has been recorded by the Scottish band Runrig as well as Scottish pipe bands. The Scots love their anthemic music and they love to sing along!
Rod is excellent. Ooh La La, Cigarettes and Alcohol, Downtown Train. I could go on and on. I owned his greatest hits collection and I believe it was on 4 CD's. That's a lot of hits!
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Every Picture Tells A Story" and "Downtown Train" !!! edit- Rhythm Of My Heart was written by Marc Jordan and John Capek.
Thank you Amber for your comment regarding the families. I served for 14 years in the Air Force. I can tell you first hand, that the families don't get the recognition they deserve. I say that because I spent LOTS of time away from home and so my wife had to hold down the entire Homelife. She had to take on 100% of the duties of life that were a shared weight when I was home. And you can say that the spouses knew what they were signing up for, but the kids...... Ugh.... That lifestyle wasn't chosen by them. They don't understand why mom or dad aren't around. It is a lot tougher for families that for most other people. My wife and I are no longer together, but I will 100% give her major props for being a military spouse for so many years. You should react to TOBY KEITH - AMERICAN SOLDIER.
Absolutely one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs. That takes me back. I've had family that have been military and it's hard to understand what sacrifices are made by such great people. Love the sincerity you guys have. Was cheering for your Bengals too. Sorry they didn't make it.
I left my love for Donny Osmond when I discovered Rod Stewart! The first time I saw him I was 12 in 1972 in OKC at the Fairgrounds Arena. It was awesome! He was a rocker back then! With Jeff Beck and the Faces and Ronny Wood etc... Young rock n roll Rod is my fav. Oh the 70s!!!
I'm blessed that this man's art, talent, and music is woven into the fabric of the memories of my youth and life really! Sir Rod you are truly a music genius!

@@ShannonR1969 Me too, I guess we'll have to keep asking please until it happens.
Rod is an absolute legend and a big part of my younger self . He always had a song on the charts.
Rod is everything. Fantastic song! 💙💜💚
It hit you because it's originally a Scottish song called "Loch Lomond", and anything Irish and Scottish will make you cry every single time.
Thank you to all that have served your country, wherever that may be.
The Motown Song, Passion, and Infatuation are 3 Rod Stewart songs you should add to your list. I know you will love them.
Blessings to you and your li'l family ♡♡♡
a very special song. bagpipes.. intro.. the voice.. those romantic lyrics..
I never get tired of hearing that. 😘
Rod is excellent. Ooh La La, Cigarettes and Alcohol, Downtown Train. I could go on and on. I owned his greatest hits collection and I believe it was on 4 CD's. That's a lot of hits!
I love most all Rod Stewart. He has so many decades of music to discover. Can't wait for the next one you choose.
Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Every Picture Tells A Story" and "Downtown Train" !!!
edit- Rhythm Of My Heart was written by Marc Jordan and John Capek.
Oh "Downtown Train" is awesome x10000
Downtown Train, originally a Tom Waits song
@@Guildofarcanelore I've heard the Patty Smyth version as well from 1987.
i always get goosebumps when listening to this masterpiece of a song
This one made me cry, remembering my mom singing along in the car. Missing her today and everyday
As a i am from Scotland, love Rod Stewart, all his music is fantastic, you can't go wrong with a bit of Rod
Amber, your reaction brought a tear to my eye. I love your emotions when you’re listening. And oh that smile - absolutely beautiful
I'm blessed that this man's art, talent, and music is woven into the fabric of the memories of my youth and life really! Sir Rod you are truly a music genius!

Tough one. Flames are gettin' higher... My hand went up too. Yup. Singing that chorus here. Aww Amber. Beautiful souls, you guys. Thank you.
"I Don't Want To Talk About It" My favourite song by Rod
I love this song with those bag pipes! The eighties was a great decade for Rod Stewart! I love his voice! You should react to “Have I Told You Lately That I Love You”! It’s a beautiful song! Also, check out “Some Guys Have All the Luck!”❤❤
