The Salton Sea is just the most recent infilling of that playa that happened when settlers diverted the river, but in general it is not a man made lake. Before this infilling it was Ancient Lake Cahuilla which was much larger covering most of the Imperial Valley and the eastern part of the Coachella Valley. It has filled and drained at least three times in history and you can see the water level line on the mountains on Ave 66 in Indio. You are on Cahuilla land. Their precontact fish traps are still there in the rocks and many people live on the Torres Martinez Reservation nearby. The toxicity in the lake is from decades of agricultural run off, not the salt. It’s an important and amazing place!
I like these types of videos. It seems like everyone is doing the same type of content now a days. Going to the unique spots like this are always a treat. Interacting with the locals and hearing their stories are the memories that will last a life time. The toast yeating it's self out of the toaster had me laughing by the way.
Ryan the new thing that your doing when talking to the locals is awesome it give us viewers an intimate idea of the little places use people will never see plus when you talk you make use feel like we are right there with you I have watched plenty of van life and they don't talk so your evolving with theys videos pretty well bro I'd like to see you check out tombstone and get your take on it have a good one
My son (16 yrs old) & I are hitting the road in June to drive across the country. You are giving me all kinds of cool places to see - we intend on being off the beaten path a lot. So - thanks!! 🎉
Hi brotha My name is Gary I was watching your video and saw that letter from Jack Kerouac. I am his second cousin, he passed when I was 8 months. Hope you read that. He had some pearls, let me tell ya. I’m a writer, not so good and a traveler just as jack was. That’s amazing that I got to see you visit with part of him in my heart. He’d be flabbergasted himself that people haven’t forgotten him. Safe travels On the Road brotha….
Wow! Your cooking is easily the best in van life, and probably home cooks. Bombay Beach seems like a really cool place to stay and explore. I agree; Bombay Beach will be ART central in less than a decade and have festivals galore. Great place to hide an alien ship.
I haven't watched someone's vlogs this consistently in years. Most vloggers try too hard for content nowadays. Your content just seems effortless. You just do what you enjoy.
When you're just taking tours of people's van builds you don't really get a feel of how they move around so it's nice to see exactly how you're moving around in your day to day living. It really does look comfortable.
That’s so funny about The Last Resort sign. Back in the 70s, a band called the Eagles made a song called The Last Resort. They never said what it was about, but some people in SoCal theorized it was about Bombay Beach and the Salton Sea.
Hi, Ryan. I just read about a party that periodically takes place in lower manhattan at Ryan Maguires Bar and Restaurant. Only people named Ryan can attend! I’d love to see you attend and let us know what shenanigans the Ryans of this world get up to!
While up in Joshua Tree, you should go to Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown. Cool music venue and awesome restaurant. It would be a great addition to a video of yours
Dinner looked great! What a difference it is around "Spooky time" when there are others around and activity, feeling no need to shut the door and lock up. Thanks for taking us along.
Ty Ryan for your videos. My husband and I lost both our daughters Brianna 26 and Samantha 34 recently and we ate selling everything and going on the RV road.our hearts needs this, ty for all your advice and places to go!! You are a excellent cook!! God bless you darlin and safe travels.
Sorry for your loss of your daughters:( praying that your hearts heal ….you well see them again. Very fascinating for your adventure start a UA-cam channel ! God Bless
My dude, love the videos. Power watched my way through a good deal of them while taking care of my wife while she was in Hospice. I won't say give up on the beard, but right now is just not the time. enjoy the full head of hair you have. I can almost guarantee in a couple of years from now it's gonna look great. but get your self a Braun Series 9 and just keep it clean for the time being. Keep the stash obviously but the rest is a distraction. Can't wait to see the next adventure and thank you for the great videos. Much love!
I followed you with my other channel like a year a go. Literally 0 to a thousand subs. And was surprised how the quality of your content improved so much. There’s no dead moments in your vlogs and I didn’t even noticed that it’s already 27minutes. Last video I watched from you last year was the sneak in caesars. Now I have a lot of watching to do to catch up! More power mr. Twomey!
I have been to Bomay Beach. Looks like a wasteland from Fallout. The smell is pretty bad also. The salton sea in the middle of the desert is a sight to see. Hopefully you go visit slab city which is near also.
Hey man, I usually watch on my PS5 so I am never able to comment. Just wanted to take this opportunity to say that I watch all the videos and they're absolutely one of the best parts of my day. The cooking is awesome to watch in the van, and love all the adventures you get up to. Thanks for the great videos, keep it up, man! I can see you reaching 1M in no time at all.
Ryan, you should seriouslyyyy consider stopping by Benton, CA. Benton hot springs to be specific. Esp since you have extra time now ;) It’s a place a stumbled upon on my cross country trip from the east coast and I will NEVER forget it. Look it up :) safe travels!!!
Ryan, a little pro tip for rice... if you make the rice the day before (or have leftovers) and let it chill in the fridge, the fried rice will come out 10X better!
This is the coolest place I’ve never heard about. Bucket list spot to visit! All those art installations are amazing. I agree this will definitely be a growing art scene in the coming years
Really like your channel Ryan, some great places and great food,i could see myself having a few beers with you and a good chat, many greetings from Sweden
Great videos. I look forward to them all the time. I am going to try the chow mein. Just a tip: Fried rice is better when the white rice refrigerated the night before. Also use butter in the fried rice.
nice job! so far i have been to all of the places in the desert videos! i started going to the sea when i was three years old! 1961 until the 90's dad loved the fishing! the smell is from the lack of the out flow and at about 15 million years ago was the tip of the Sea of Cortez/Gulf of California and the line on the mountains along HWY 86 is sea level and in the late 70s was 254 ft below sea level!
As soon as you drove over the hump 10:48 after the dive in movies I knew that was sandy shore from gta 5, the trip looks great loving the video have a good one 👍
Cool place. My sticks and bricks is literally 90 - 120 mins from where you are. I go that way all the time and had no idea it was there. I’m gonna head out there tomorrow and experience it for myself. Thanks for the video Ryan.
I’ve seen two so your videos so far and I’m hooked! I love how you’re so full of information and chill! I could listen to you talk all day :) Your trip sounds like a dream! I hope you have a safe journey 🙏🏻
I had no idea this place existed, and thank you for this video. Your content is so genuine because you interact with the places you visit and that makes it really interesting. Thank you.
Meal looked good! I’d switch the chicken up though. Season it, fried in batter, then put orange chicken sauce. So good! If you use Panda Express sauce, add garlic and ginger when heating it up
Thanks for bringing up GREAT childhood memories of The Salton Sea Ryan! I was a wee one when the sea turned sour. Good times out there before then though.😢
Love your videos, Ryan! Just a tip for when you're slicing things: if you put a damp paper towel or napkin under your cutting board, it will anchor the board to the countertop so it doesn't slide around while you're cutting. Much safer. I saw the video where you cut your thumb and I swear I almost felt it!
This video is proof Ryan reads what we comment. I suggested to him many video ago about making Chow Mein and bam! He did it! Looked so good Ryan. Looking forward to your videos every week!
I just went through there at the end of March. Check out borrego springs next time you pop through. I'm living in an rv full time with my gf. Good times.
I think I went to that same walmart back in January when I visited there...I will mention again, if you go back up north...WHITEWATER PRESERVE...hopefully it's open, when I went it closed for 3 days, the 3 that I booked, it's free...I still got to see it on my way back from San Franciso...it's so peaceful and serene...loved it! Beautiful place!
at 1st I didn't think I would enjoy your videos. just another "I live in a van person" UA-cam, but I was wrong. I am now a subscriber and find your videos very well done, informative, entertaining, and strangely addictive. "I wonder what Ryan is doing and where. stay safe
I play so much GTA V that I just know Bombay is actually Sandy Shores in GTA V. I was wondering why it looked so familiar.
Me too
He'll yea looks exactly like Trevor's street
Man’s went to yellowjack 😅
INSTANT recognition! lol
Now I too understand why I felt a sense of familiarity seeing this in the video
Good on ya for recognizing it right away haha
The saxophone 🎷 playing in the distance was pretty cool. How relaxing. Can't wait for more. Stay safe...
I love the talking to locals! More please.
Start making videos over 50 mins... my wife and i are glued

Yea i like trying to interact with people more and the toast ALWAYS does that

Those Mocs you're wearing at the beginning of the video are fly AF.
content has been insane lately, it’s become something I look forward to for sure
I live in a van also. Its the best life ever! You put out great videos.
Wow! Your cooking is easily the best in van life, and probably home cooks. Bombay Beach seems like a really cool place to stay and explore. I agree; Bombay Beach will be ART central in less than a decade and have festivals galore. Great place to hide an alien ship.
The dinner was on point! Makes me again wish I could be there with my own rig and a plate for some of your tasty food!
Been to Salton Sea many times. Great birding destination
Impressed with the meals you make..
dude, longer videos please lol
cant get enough.
hi from south africa
The toast rocketing out of the toaster had me cracking up, also, if I was doing van life I'd have my head buzzed lol
The VFW has great breakfast and Salvation mountain is incredibly moving. Great places there.
I haven't watched someone's vlogs this consistently in years. Most vloggers try too hard for content nowadays. Your content just seems effortless. You just do what you enjoy.
'the only other thing is NO thing' not nothing. glad you had fun, i enjoy your travels, thanks.
you are the new favorite Ryan, no longer MAV
When you're just taking tours of people's van builds you don't really get a feel of how they move around so it's nice to see exactly how you're moving around in your day to day living. It really does look comfortable.
binging on your older videos and loving them! You are a great cook, love all the Asian foods you try!

What's up brother! My son and me have been watching your videos for a while now. Good to see you're putting new vids out. Stay safe.
You are living the life, buddy!
While up in Joshua Tree, you should go to Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown. Cool music venue and awesome restaurant. It would be a great addition to a video of yours
They sometimes have “live” bands at Pappy & Harriets. Locals love that place!
You are living most men's dreams my friend off the grid is the way to go👍
Alaska is beautiful ❤️❤️ northern lights are gorgeous
Hey Ryan, you are quickly becoming one of my favorites!!! What a beautiful view and the nighttime colors came through perfectly !
Van home made panda express I love how simple it is.
Toast: up up and away! 1:38
This is a cooking channel as well I love it😂
Dinner looked great! What a difference it is around "Spooky time" when there are others around and activity, feeling no need to shut the door and lock up. Thanks for taking us along.
for fried rice you want to use precooked cold rice. You can use the sticky rice from your other videos without cooking it.
Every sauce you use, I go and buy at the store! 😅😅 yum food and amazing place! Thanks for the video!

You should put Aluminum Foil over your stove top - keeps your stove top cleaner and easy cleanup

I'm glad I'm not the only who thought about Sandy Shores. I might just visit that place one day!

love the whole salton sea area. so strange and unique. and it's where Alex Supertramp lived for a while (Into the Wild guy)
Awesome but sad story. One of my all time favorite movies.
Having the ambience of music and lighting by lake is super cool. Love saxophones

Anyone else notice Ryan’s toaster launching his toast in the background while he was making breakfast? Lol
Got me to laugh
I look forward to these uploads so much. I've really enjoyed following along on your adventures and cooking escapades.

Great videos. I look forward to them all the time. I am going to try the chow mein. Just a tip: Fried rice is better when the white rice refrigerated the night before. Also use butter in the fried rice.
