    A friend of mine used to work at an ATT store in Westwood, and Henry came in and bought a phone from him. He said thanks and left . . . But then came back unannounced 10 minutes later with a coffee, handed it my my friend and said, "I was getting a coffee and I just thought you might like to have one, too." What a guy.

      My mom was holding me at a grocery store back in the 90s and apparently I started bawling my eyes out. She was trying to do all this stuff when she gets a tap on the shoulder and sure enough it’s Henry Winkler. He asked if he could help her out and without a moments hesitation, he lifted his shirt and nursed me back to tranquility. Amazing man.

    Henry Winkler saw me in LA years ago. I was hating my 1st job out of college (top adverising agency) and was out at lunch completely broken. He stopped to chat with me and gave me some words of advice. I recently retired at 50yrs old. Successful in my own owned businesses. I often look back on that day and have passed those words onto everyone I've mentored. It was a treat to see the Barry Episodes. And the man who turned my life around.

    I love the stories Conan tells about his kids. The fact that at 3:53 his son watches tv series with him in their entirety. His daughter went with him to Coachella, road trip and all. These are teens who are either almost out of the house and the other already off to college and they love spending quality time with their Dad!
    I don’t have a teen and always just hear the horror stories of how they begin to hate you at a certain age, after you’ve poured your heart and soul into loving and raising them. It just warms my heart to no end that this is not always the case. AND we’re talking about a celebrity… Conan could’ve been way too worried about his career to care to be a present father but the glimpses he’s shared about the quality time he spends with his kids shows how very present he has been in their life.
    I love that.
    I hope I have an amazing bond with my kids when they’re all teens and beyond ❤

      @@youtubedrifter5594 me and my mum are dirt poor and i still spend time with her, watching entire shows together. sure, when I was a teen we had our moments, but that’s what parenting a teen is; having moments, not the relationship being ruined entirely. Whoever says that once kids enter 15 they magically run away or murder their parents or whatever, they either had crappy parents, or were the crappy parent themselves.

    • @CarenKH1
      @CarenKH1 Рік тому +14

      Those horror stories are from/about people who view their kids as objects & extensions of themselves, rather than as fully human people with thoughts, opinions, and experiences of their own. Listen to your kids as you would a friend (I mean a deeply good friend, who loves you enough to call you on your bullshit & celebrates your wins), take them seriously, respect them as people, & teenhood can be a time of great connection & exploration (and letting go, as they grow).

    • @Stardust_Lily
      @Stardust_Lily Рік тому +3

      @@CarenKH1 I don't disagree that that's often true, but tbh it's also that raising another human being to be happy and healthy is simply not a simple task and we're not taught how to do so, usually just having to wing it and take advice from other parents/books in the hopes that they have the right information.
      Like, I don't have a very good relationship with my mom, I've had to start working through quite a bit of resentment I didn't realize I hold, but I wouldn't say she didn't think of me as a person or thought of me as an object or part of her. She just didn't know what she was doing and is kinda self-centered. That's not good, of course, but there's no one answer to why children and their relationships with parents turn out the way they do. There are hundreds of ways that can happen.
      I only really bring this up because a lot of people seem to think raising a child isn't work, and that you'll do an amazing and perfect job if you just listen and be there. It's so much more than that, though, and children and their developing brains and bodies are complicated and won't always express what they need. And it'll turn out that a number of the things you think are the "right" way to raise a child might actually hurt it in another case.
      But I agree with your overall message, and I think the most *important* thing is 100% communication and listening and respect, for sure. Unfortunately in my case that was all present, but there are sadly still plenty of other ways to mess up and get your child to be less than fond of you lol.

    Conan's observation about the changing tone of Barry was great. I think the tonal shift takes place as Barry's (and other people's) actions start to have lingering effects. Early in season one, he's in a new place, with new people. The longer he's there, the deeper and wider the impact of his actions on himself and those around him. (It's like Breaking Bad in that way.)

    I think one of the most genius things about the show is how the characters in Barry are constantly referencing their own behavior or choices based on things they've seen in films. So it becomes an interesting exercise in trying to determine and understand whether a character's motivations are sincere or performative or some combination of both. And I think it's a fascinating commentary on the world we live in today whether it was intentional in the writer's room or not. Brilliant show. Truly.

    There was a rumor going around a few months ago about Bill Hader maybe playing Harvey Dent/ Two-Face in the sequel to The Batman. I can’t get it out of my head. The ease at which he slides into other characters and voices, his general look (like Tim Sale’s version of the character) and his profoundly excellent dramatic acting chops- Batman boasts some of my favorite characters in fiction and Bill Hader would elevate Two-Face on film to undeniably new heights. I really do hope it happens. The other names getting tossed around currently are way more mainstream and a lot less interesting I think.

    Roflmao...just roflmao. 🤣
    This one cements it for me. Bill Hader actually might be one of the most likable deeply intellectual guys on the planet.
    This might be where I'd usually take a swing (and miss) at the big guy. Yet I feel compelled to gush over our favorite gifted Harvard grad.
    So having digested an almost innumerable quantity of CocoPods, can I just say that Conan's already deep and broad creative arts skills just keep broadening. His interviewing skills and his sharing of the spotlight and allowing others to feel at ease and showcase their gifts just get better and better. I kinda get a bit of an Imus vibe occasionally when I watch the gears turn as he listens and crafts his next bit of verbiage. It's really freakin' cool. Hopefully the Imus mention comes off correctly. I didn't always agree with him...or always enjoy his brand of straight talk, but I always wanted to hear his take. His interviews were crazy good too. Anyway, thanks again team Coco. I'm kinda square in the demo, but great television and all the new permutations of radio + television here in bitworld sure are fascinating and fun to watch.
    Like your content! What is it? Long format interview with multiple interviewers? Yeah podcast but also elements of Howard and some of the classic and great radio talk formats too.
    Whatever it is, forget the numbers...it is entertainment and good company of the highest caliber. I'm sayin' that because the numbers...oh...the numbers and how we keep relying on that data for validation of creative and deeply personal efforts. Well listen...you folks are talented and driven professionals and your efforts are damn damn good. Period. All's y'all!
    But it's always job well done with all you try hards, ain't it?! 😖

      I mean its dark humor which isn't for everyone and there are a lot of actual cringe moments which are hard to watch for many

    Watching that scene where he shoots Chris... All I could think was "if this is a comedy, why am I crying?" Not a criticism at all! It really hits one of my favorite genres, "bummers that make me laugh".

    Henry is a class act for caring about the crew having some nice Bundt cake with their coffee during their break. Most actors don't even look crew directly in the eye, but Henry knows they are the literal backbone of every production.

    I have never seen Barry. But isn't it an extension of that SNL skit where Hader played a Vietnam vet taking a puppetry class?

    Henry Winkler is the greatest actor who ever lived. He convinced the entire country that a 135lb jewish guy was the toughest italian biker in Milwaukee.

    Its not a comedy anymore than actual life is a comedy. Even the darkest moments in life can be absurdist. And what I like about Barry is that it deconstructs and ridicules all aspects of “tacticool badassery”.

    Ah Happy Days and KISS were both popular at the same time. So a trend in my home town to be cool was to have a leather jacket like the Fonz and the highest heels you could find. Oh and smoke like Colombo
