Turn Down for What! Exhaust Made Simple for the Mustang Flowmaster X Pipe and Super 10's

- Here's a simple solution to getting a high performance X pipe exhaust system for your muscle car at home in your own garage! I went with the Flowmaster 2.5" Scavenger X Pipe and two Super 10 mufflers for this system and then made my own Turn Downs at the end for now.
I'm really happy with the way this came out and will eventually get the exhaust out the back of the Mustang but since it will require a bit of expert work, I'll wait until the car is running and driving and can put it up on a lift for better access.
Here are the links to the parts used in this video...
First up is the 2.5" Super 10 Single Chamber Mufflers

Next is the Scavenger X Pipe:

Thanks so much for watching!
At 12:00 minute mark I noticed suspension bolt loose on passenger side control arm.
Thanks, I'm still taking some measurements and adjust stuff back there still... but great spot and I appreciate the "head's up"!
Thanks for posting these videos. I'm working on a 71 that I've had since I was 18. Your work on yours is amazing.
I have the same exact mustang and doing the exact same things your doing, your the reason why my build is coming along so easy
WOW... so cool to hear this!
+1 as well, a 73 coupe over here, got a whole quarter done in a day.
Just watching you build your mustang gets me all excited to start mine!! I just cant afford to restore it and do what I want.
Glad to see more of the Mustang, makes me want to go fix my exhaust now! (fix some of my old welds)
LOL... get out there and weld!
I just added a new exhaust system to my 1973 351c a few months ago. Put hooker long tube headers on, bought Dynomax ultraflow mufflers and exhaust tips, then had a local muffler shop do the rest in 2.25 in. Changed it to a more aggressive bass sound. Only issue is the headers improved exhaust scavenging so much that I lost a little long end torque, at least I think that's what's happening.
Nicely done Jason! Great combination of functionality and form. Can’t wait to hear how Large Marge sounds and performs.
Thanks dude! I'm really excited about the sound of this car as well... should be good!
6:50 I can relate to that moment so much haha. It’s always awesome when things work in the first go round!
HA! Yeah, my confidence level used to be much higher ...LOL
Yasss 🙌🙌 but now you got me waiting for you to turn it on. Lol this is like buying a car showing a before sound clip then doing a muffler/cat delete and saying alright done, with out giving us a sound sample of after. Now you got to hurry and finish so we can hear it.
Yes, that is a bit frustrating... I know... but it's driving me a bit crazy to want to hear it as well. Soon maybe.
AutoEdits haha don’t rush it bro. Your doing it right and really, REALLY, close to finishing. Seems like it’s mostly internal stuff left.
I can't wait to hear it.
What a super cool project.
Thanks so much dude!!! You are a great motivation during a tough time for me on the channel here!
@@AutoEdits The only reason I support you because we're both bald! #unitedbalddudes
good to see some work getting done on that car. :)
I can't wait to hear it run with those mufflers. I've been thinking about switching my glasspacks out for those on my 67 coupe
Would be very different... I personally like glass packs too but not for this one!
Looking good man! Great to see you getting back into it! Thats the hardest part. Yay winter progress
Thanks!
Great Job Jason, Cant wait to hear how it sounds like
Me three!
Great video Jason. Can’t wait to hear her!
Thanks! Me too! Big steps happening!
Glad to see a little progress on the Mustang, keep up the awesome work!
Thank you for the support!
Always my friend!
Hope you like the craftsman tools. I’m a Milwaukee guy I have anything from a chainsaw to a micro impact and all run on the same battery. Love them wouldn’t replace them for anything. Tough as nails too I’ve accidentally ran the micro impact over twice now with the Jeep and no problem at all.
How do you keep running it over? LOL Glad to hear it's durable!
How do you keep running it over? LOL Glad to hear it's durable!
AutoEdits well today it fell off the rear bumper when I was installing it and I moved the Jeep so I could solder some wires and I ran it over. The second time I was working on the Jeep and just forgot it was under it lol.
I got Milwaukee tools too so handy when your impact leaf blower and light all take the same battery😂 i got the little stubby 3/8 impact fuel. And it zapps lugs off my jeep like damn
Ryan Prokopow it’s the best thing ever that my work light, chainsaw, weed eater, grease gun, drill, impacts and porta ban (I know I’m missing some) all run on the same m18 battery. The best thing they ever did was use the same battery for everything. Plus the batteries are rebuildable.
So glad to see Large Marge getting some love, we missed her!
It’s tough!
Love the vid and can’t wait for the wiring harness installation.
I'll do a good job on that install video!
Love it thanks for posting another video! I second your turn downs, makes it clean, mean and loud.
Yeah buddy!
Looking forward to hearing it mate...
Oh man, me too!
I have a Porter Cable electric 1/2" impact, got it when I did the lift on my JK. It has been *SO* nice. It breaks everything I have tried loose. Even those big control arm bolts.
Nice! I have the porter cable saw and love that thing!
Dang that is tucked up right. I wish my long tubes were that high up!
Yeah, I was really impressed with the Flowmaster headers. And the ceramic coat was super durable.
Wow what a beautiful mustang. Great work
I appreciate hearing that, thanks!
Chrome tips were worth it... especially if it helps you sleep at night 👍👍👍🍻
HAHA! It kinda does...LOL
Wheels are gorgeous
I agree... thanks dude!
@@AutoEdits any time bro
Awesome can't wait to hear Large Marge roar!
ME TOO!
It looks awesome, cant wait to hear it!
YES! I'm looking forward to that as well.
Nice work.
Couple of thoughts. O2 sensors need to be mounted as close to the merge collector on the header for a better signal to the ECM.
As I am sure you know by now, dumps on a street car get old very fast, as well as exhaust fumes finding their way into the cabin.
Again, nice work on the car, many could learn a lesson or two from it.
This is all very good input, thank you for presenting it in a constructive way.
Yes, I have learned my lesson on the dumps... loud and stinky... LOL
Nice work Brother
At 11:49 upper left of your video you have a loose nut and washer on your drag link! Awesome video as always, also need my jeep video fix!
Ya I think Jason is one of those "tighten it all up last" guys. I'm one of those "I missed one when I was tightening it all up last and now I'm fixing it on the side of the road so now I tighten as I go" guys :)
Thanks for the spot! Yes, I'm doing some last minute adjustments on the wheel base and stuff so it is on the radar... but I really appreciate the reminder... you never know if someone will catch something and save ya!
Nice exhaust! My 71 has been on hold for a while. The body shop has been busy and I'm kind of a "second thought" in the work order. I'll probably post an update on my channel later this week so people know that I haven't quit. We have made plans to shave my shock towers and rebuild the front end to make it stiffer and allow for maximum adjustability. Also thinking of making a dropout front crossmember for various reasons. Keep up the work with yours as I am excited to see it finished. If I can somehow catch up with you and get mine done, we'll have to get together for a duo video?! 😁
That sounds like a plan for sure!!!
Great video Jason
Another godly upload and it just started playing 💪🙌🙏 loving the progress jason !
Thanks so much... I'm pleased to move forward with this thing as well!
@@AutoEdits i remember this mustang being started I think now around 5 6 ish years ago, amazing what a long way you've came!
It's taking forever but I'm glad to stick with it... and I'm glad you did too!!! LOL
@@AutoEdits of course my man 🙏💯 best channel on youtube period. Think about it, at the end of it all it'll all be worth it when your driving that beauty down the road
Cant wait to hear it fire up!
Me too! Getting closer!
Nice! Love the large marge vids! I didn't realize you could weld, maybe I just forgot?
All good... technically I "can" weld but how good is questionable...LOL
It’s going to be awesome!!
I hope so!
Love this build! Big horse luv.
Keep it up man!
The progress is good!
"Enjoy Your Ride"!!! (Soon)
Looks awesome, I also went with a simple turndown setup on my car, gotta say mine is very loud even with pretty big hooker maxflow mufflers, look forward to hearing your supercharged unit fire up!
I thought I saw a unicorn in the backyard! I did! I did!
Yes you did...
Uh huh! Nice!
Love that car (and not a ford guy) thumbs up! Wish you still had the gray camaro.
Thanks so much... I miss that car... it was a really really good one!
Thumbs up for Mustang videos...
YES! MORE MUSTANG VIDEOS!
YEP!
Okay, two mustang videos is okay , I guess. But am in dire need an AutoEdits Jeep video. JK, great to see any video from you and your sidekick Pinto.
Jeep is next!
@@AutoEdits Nice pipes BTW!
Love your videos bro they’re awesome
Thank you SOOOO MUCH!
Looking good man!
Thanks!
I love this car!
I'm glad to hear that!
This is killer looking
Thanks!!!
Grinder & paint makes me the welder I ain’t.
HA! Another bit of gold from you!
Nice job
Thanks!
Exhaust is looking good, but you can't do a little drive by of that vette without saying anything about it! Looking forward to the next video.
NICE VIDEO ! Besides the 3" to 2.5" reducers, was everything already sized or did you have to cut pipes for the layout you welded ?
Hey Thanks! Yes, I did trim the pipes to get the exact fit for this car. It wasn't very difficult with a harbor freight chop saw.
Can't wait to hear her rumble 😎 it looks like you would not be showing much exhaust if you just went under the axle tube and angled out to clear the fuel tank ?
Was the a silver Corvett in the back yard? Next project maybe? Bow tie over Ford car unless it's a Cobra or Elenore. Great Jeep and Ram. Merry Xmas.
Yes it is a future project for next year!
@@AutoEdits Cool! Every time I see a mid year vette I kick myself for passing on restored '65 365HP 327 4 speed roadster I came close to buying in the '80s (had corvette fever back then). Looking forward to your project!
More I want to see it finished
Me TOO!
Who's is the stingray in the background? Beautiful car, any content coming on that?
It's a project for next year! First let me get this Mustang running!
Damn, really wanted to hear what it would sound like at the end
I know, I know! Believe me, it makes me crazy as well.
SOOOOOO..... Finally have some interesting videos to watch. :D Been following this project from the start, but not a huge fan of the 4x4 content sadly.
If you have sponsors on youtube don't you have to disclaim that these days?
Keep up the great work though Jason.
What do you mean disclaim sponsors? Craftsman doesn’t sponsor me. I would like that and if they do I’ll make sure to disclaim it for ya.
@@AutoEdits then that was my mistake for which I apologise.
Personally find it annoying when presenters shove tools from specific manufacturers down our throats, and it's usually due to a sponsor ship.
As constructive criticism I suggest you make it more obvious you bought the tools and are recommending them because you like them. And not due to a sponsor.
All good, I'm as straight forward as it gets and try to be generally positive with the vibes here.
Looking good
Thanks!
The system looks good. I really like when the systems are painted black.
I don't really get the chrome tips though. When you started on the turn downs you mentioned trying to make less visible. And then you put chrome tips on them? Couldn't you have just saved some cash by just slash cutting the pipes?
Cordless tools are awesome. I went with a bunch of Milwaukee tools and haven't used any of my air tools since.
Yes I could've just cut a bend and left it... but like I mentioned... the chrome tips look good to me and I'm not "hiding" them but making them look like I meant for them to be there.
I’d like your feedback - I’m going to order the same Team 3 wheels you installed but was looking at 18” both front and rear. I know you installed 17” and in the front and wanted to know if you regret that decision or did it give you the exactly what stance your looking for? I also installed 2.5” front drop spindles to eliminate the front rake. I really want to nailed it once and for all for the stance.
I'm stoked to hear you're going with Team 3 wheels!!! You will be extremely happy... the craftsmanship is top notch. Great question by the way... I would recommend going 18 all the way around... I will be bummed when I can't rotate front to rear.
AutoEdits Thanks for the feedback!! Much appreciated and Happy New Years! Let this year be filled with great accomplishments including firing up your Mustang and getting it on the track this summer!
Thanks and Yeah Buddy!
I have the exact same suspension setup except I went air ride. My big question is if you ever went back and got a chance to get the tubing up and over the rear axle tubes. It is very tight. I was thinking of getting oval tubing, any suggestions
I couldn't see where it would go over the axle on the drivers side but the car sits so low that I'm contemplating oval tubing and under the axle to the rear.
Dude, I think I saw a speck of dirt on the frame under there. Tough to know for sure though ;-)
LOL, just got back from checking... got it... phew! Thanks
couldnt click this fast enough
Thanks so much... I couldn't hit the like fast enough on your comment!
Yo bro. Noticed the bolt to your traction bar is loose. I'm sure you've caught it by now.
I did but thanks for the "heads up"!
Try a Hilti cordless 1/2” impact gun. They are the best you can buy.
Thanks for the suggestion... I went to this event for the new Craftsman re-launch and liked some of this new stuff so I'm going to beat on it for a bit and see what it does.
What kind of wheels were they?
How long until we get a first start???
Getting closer... the wiring harness is the only big thing left and it's going to be a few weeks before I can get back on it so... soon-ish!
@@AutoEdits respect for replying to everyones questions! You get alot of them and you answer them all!
HA! Thank you so much for noticing... I try and will always try to show my appreciation for people who take the time to watch my junk!
would have liked to hear it run
Oh jeez.... me too. Lots of work to do still but getting there.
Where did you get the cloth you're using to set the exhaust on?
It's a standard moving blanket... get them at a moving supply store or home depot type place.
@@AutoEdits Thanks! I've been looking for one but I didn't know what it was called lol
Why do I feel like you are me in the future. Already working on my 67 mustang coupe and my other dream car is a 1964 c2 stingray corvette /: something suspicious here
LOL
Looks great, but it's gonna be louder than hell...
Counting on that!
Got to love exhaust videos without a sound clip. I had hooker headers on my '72 mustang with a 460 and I smashed two sets because they hung so low.
Are you new to this build up? This is a long term project and while I totally get that if you came here wanting to hear super 10's fired up after this install... it would be a let down! I'm working as fast as I can on this project ... and it even drives me crazy that I can't hear it yet!!!
@@AutoEdits Just busting your chops man. I had a 72 Coupe since 1980 and it was sitting in my garage since about 96. I just got rid of it this past spring. I came to the conclusion I was never going to finish the metal work I started and let it go for $500. The new owner got it running, finished the body work in about 8 weeks. Glad it went to a good home. Your project is looking really good and I'll be waiting to see and hear it run.
I get ya! Thanks!
Looks like you have a loose control arm mounting bolt!
Thanks for the heads up! I still might make some adjustments before I button it all up.
I wanted to hear it
I do to trust me!
What's next on the list?
Hmmm.... wiring harness and some working on what instruments should go in there.
Was that a stingray in the background?
Why yes it is. News on that soon!
@@AutoEditsI am excited.
Was that a Vette hiding outside?
Maybe... ok, yes!
waiting for st vids
I actually have a shifter upgrade for my nephew's Focus... just have to co-ordinate schedules!
Frist comment 💪🏻💪🏻
You got it!
Nice vette show in 10:36
Thanks! That will be a fun build up... just has to wait until after the Mustang.
No "Vroom"?
Happening next video.
Woot! Thx
go UNDER the axle with the tail pipes
Good suggestion... I'm still thinking about that but with the car stuck up against the back wall of the garage, I don't want to commit to it. Let me get it on the ground and turn it around to really see what it will look like.
Are you trying to sound like David Freiburger ? Sometimes your voice is a dead ringer for him
I don't actually try and sound like anyone but me... way easier that way. You're not the first person to notice that though...LOL I've had the luck to be friends and work with him over the years and learned a lot.
AutoEdits
that’s awesome that you know him. He’s taught me so much over the years growing up reading manny of the magazines he’s written for. Then roadkill and engine masters etc. he’s great.
AutoEdits
Some day can you talk on your channel about your friendship with David ?
Your channel is great keep the videos coming !
That is going to be too loud in California. You will end up with a $1000 ticket.
Nope. Doesn’t apply to vehicles pre 1975
Never got to hear the 10s
It doesn’t run yet... it will soon!
Really ended it without a sound check 😑
Needs a wiring harness... it's on the list.
I will never take advice from a guy who uses craftsman tools
