    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  7 років тому +9

      +VanillaSnake21 Yep
      Its one or the other
      With OEM mufflers though I don't think you need to drill a hole, the material is much better quality than aftermarket

    • @VanillaSnake21
      @VanillaSnake21 7 років тому +22

      But I don't understand the point of the suggestion, you're saying compromise the muffler and make it less effective in reducing noise as well as create a exhaust leak for what? Just to make sure the muffler doesn't rust? But at that point it's a garbage muffler anyway.

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  7 років тому +12

      +VanillaSnake21 yea true. Its a trade off.

    • @VanillaSnake21
      @VanillaSnake21 7 років тому +22

      No you don't understand. A trade off for what? A trade off to keep the muffler longer? But what's the difference between a rust making a hole in the muffler or you? When you make holes in it you might as well throw it out anyways.

    • @theravedaddy
      @theravedaddy 7 років тому +38

      An 1/8 hole in the muffler aint gonna do shit to the noise you bellend but it will drain all the collected condensation out. Many exhausts have them as standard so give up trying to be a smartass.

    Nice explanation , I've heard from my mechanic that if u start a car's engine don't shut it down straight away as the water vapour will condensate in the cold muffler and resonator , let it run for few minutes until the pipes become hot then water won't condensate and this will prevent it from rusting

    • @charlieangkor8649
      @charlieangkor8649 2 роки тому

      Rust needs oxygen to form. The point of car engine is to consume the oxygen from air to burn fuel and emit exhaust gases that don't contain oxygen anymore. So how could the rust form when there is no oxygen?

    But if you drew holes on the bottom will make the waves also go through them and will make a strange noise with the water.Also the temperature in muffler should be over 100 C degrees so the water will drain only if you stop the engine,am I right ?

      I think he's talking about pretty small holes...like 1/16" 0r 3/32" which won't make any difference soundwise. Most factory mufflers have small drain holes in them brand new.

  • @EduardoGaitan
    @EduardoGaitan 2 роки тому

    Cool. Thanks. 3 inch exhaust systems common? I've got a stove I made from scrap metal and was thinking of using old exhaust pipe and maybe even muffler in it if I could find it. i've seen some different stove systems that have a similar concept as the muffler with baffles and such.

    About the spring you referred to at 3:49. Isn't it going to slow down your piston as the gases don't flow freely, due to the lower pressure? Sorry for my english

    • @speedkar99

      +Prometheus Yes but mufflers are meant to make things quieter at the expense of power

    Also, the pic with waves is misleading because it shows only one time instant. At other time instants the waves are shifted (remember - they are waves, they travel - surprise surprise) and the calcellation doesn't work except those zero points. It even makes the sound stronger in the points in between the zeros.
