Every time I'm listening this song, my heart cries. No, it's not that he left us, but the fact that we'll never hear from him again. He left us all such an incredible legacy that we are privileged to have lived with him at the same time. Yes, my heart cries, because I still miss him ...

@@PeppermintPatties You know, I'd give anything to know that he made heaven his stage. He is said to have written the most beautiful love songs for his wife, a song about the moon for their daughter and a song about happiness for his son. When I close my eyes, I hear him singing. Timeless like an angel...

I hope I speak for many I've never met him but he had such a pull in my life. I can say in one way so many loved Bowie as if he was standing face to face with you everyday. I hope he has seen now how much he meant to so many that never got to see a concert or meet him. Ashes to Ashes, Starman.

I did meet him, once only, in 1987 in Manchester England. The meeting was at the Midland hotel after the first night of his Glass Spider show at Maine Road Football Ground. My wife and I, along with two friends were at the same hotel. David was gracious and welcoming. A true star a true gent6.

I met and spoke to him in 1990 when he first played in Rio. I was a young reporter and got the prestigious assignment because everyone knew I was a huge fan and was well informed to be in the press conference and write about the concerts. He was not as tall as he always seemed to be in pictures and films, but grew in stature by the minute with his dandy ways and clever remarks. When he died, I felt as if I had lost a close relative, for he had been such a great presence and reference in my life since the late 70s.

David Bowie's official website brought me here. I hadn't heard this version before. His voice, his singing; just sublime. Yes, his voice, apart from being absolutely unique, is the most expressive voice I know. He sure know how to use it, in versatile ways.
Growing up with Bowie and not understanding the English language those first years, really makes me appreciate how he conveys emotions and feelings with it.

The way he sings this version:
My death waits like an old roué
So confident I'll go his way
Whistle to him and the passing time
My death waits there like a bible truth
At the funeral of my youth
Weep loud for that and the passing time
My death waits like a witch at night
As surely as our love is bright
Let's not think about the passing time
But what ever lies behind the door
There is nothing much to do
Angel or devil, I don't care
For in front of that door, there is you
My death waits like a beggar blind
Who sees this world through an unlit mind
Throw him a dime for the passing time
My death waits there to allow my friends
A few good times before it ends
Yeah, let's drink to that and the passing time
My death waits there between your thighs
Your cool fingers will close my eyes
Oh let's not think about the passing time
But what ever lies behind the door
There is nothing we can do
Angel or devil, I don't care
For in front of that door, there is you
My death waits there among the leaves
      In magicians' mysterious sleeves
Rabbits, dogs and the passing time
My death waits there among the flowers
      Where the blackest shadow cowers
We'll pick lilacs for this passing time
My death waits there in our double bed
Sails of oblivion at my head
Pull up the sheets against the passing time
But what ever lies behind the door
There is nothing much to do
Angel or devil, I don't care
For in front of that door, there is you

Great rendition... Bowie's vocal is pure & exceptionally interpretive, just as we loved it thru the years

If anyone else is like me, and had to wait to grieve for Bowie, because something even WORSE in a personal way, like my husband of 7 years suddenly left me only one week before Bowie Died, join me in a crying session that hurts worse now than any sadness I felt over my dumb-ass husband. He was nothing even remotely close to being ANYTHING like Bowie!!!! Hey, sometimes we can't help who we love. But Bowie, I got Scary Monsters when I was 13 years old. My cool uncle gave it to me and I played it day and night on my record player/stereo. At the time i was listening most likely to what my very young step-mom listened to in the early eighties. Carol King, Cat Stevens, Bread and stuff from the seventies. Before that it was 6-8 grade R&R Van Halen Diver Down, Rush, Pink Floyd The Wall, Led Zeppelin that brown album you put water on and it went to color... stuff my sister listened to. Before that, My fifth grade favorite The Bee Gees' SGT. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band (the Beatles' Covers,) Donna Summers and other disco. So David Bowie was very new and different. He changed my life. I became different, individualized myself and cherished that suddenly I realized how regular everyone else was. I LONGED TO BE STRANGE and after I heard earlier stuff I got it all little by little! I never went much Beyond Scary MOnsters. I loved his old stuff and vowed not to go forward. I didn't like one song of new stuff and i'd ignore the whole album. Black Star esp. the video scares the shit out of me. Should I now venture north of 1980? At least I can take one more step toward my decision and begin grieving my loss of my VERY favorite musician EVER. Song writer, EVER. singer too... and more oh he was gorgeous. much more. words are not doing justice. not even close.

Blackstar is very, very human. I wouldn't even say spiritual as I don't find it religious. Live and feel something, don't let negative vibes get you down- we are all loved by someone.

Waters of oblivion... momentary consolations... pull up the sheets, like when, as to children, the ploy to protect oneself by the shadows of the unknown, angel or devil does not care... One of the most melancholy poems in music, by the great Belgian songwriter Brel (with Shuman), translated into English and in… Pure Art by David Bowie, celestial Cantor of the Time. This is superb edition, as well as the author of the channel. Thanks wholeheartedly, dear Marianna.

Sung at the height of his powers, I think. I think if you gave DB a stick, a rock, and some mud, he'd find a way to make music and fantasy and sheer power out of all of it. This is gorgeous music, with piano and lyrics in perfect harmony. (Credit Mike Garson, piano; David Bowie, RIP)

Quick reminder that God will never put weight on your shoulders that He knows you can’t handle. Whatever your going through just be patient and see why God made you wait. It may be hard but it’s all worth it 💫.
