    From Morrissey's Autobiography: "At The Forum in Los Angeles a royal David Bowie walks onstage to join me for the encore; he is stately against my last-gasp exhaustion. The 12-year-old within me - unable to leave for school unless I’d soothed my sickness with at least one spin of Starman - bathes in the moment with disbelief".

      @Mike G I loved the book. Wish he'd write another one (non-fiction, of course 😉). It'd be really interesting if he were to publish an essay collection on artists he admires from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

We were up in the nosebleed section and could barely see the dark figure stepping out of the shadows, but the voice made us realize it was without a doubt David Bowie. Not many people could 'upstage' Morrissey, but Bowie had a stage presence that is unique
    and if you were ever fortunate enough to witness it live, it always resonates every time
    you see footage of him.
    You either got it or you ain't, and 'Starman' had it in abundance..

    Jumped on stage right before this, looked across at Morrissey (I was just jumping on stage to see if I could-I wasn't going to hug Moz or anything) and I just stared out at the crowd before getting tackled and thrown down the stairs stage right and landed into Bowie with our faces pressed together - I was mortified and he looked at me like I was a monster. I was like, fug, that was weird, what's Bowie doing here, awesome.... They let me go back to my front row seat with a warning. Told my girlfriend I thought Bowie might come out - 2.0 seconds later here he was. Still a great story/memory, rock anecdote I too often don't share within the many rock stories from growing up in L.A. proper.

      @@ivankaramasov 1000 percent true... I'll never forget the look of disgust he gave me. I wasn't a massive Bowie fan at the time (but loved him as a kid) and I actually really wasn't even a big Morrissey fan at the time either (but years earlier loved the Smiths). I have way more crazy rock stories than this one, I haven't really recalled this one that much over the years because it makes me sound like an idiot -- like why would I even go up there in the first place - I spent a lot of time going to punk shows earlier, stage diving, vert skater etc. Just stumbled across this video and thought I'd share.

    • @ivankaramasov
      @ivankaramasov 2 роки тому +1

      @@azurebarrels3754 Bowie actually was known as being calm in stressed situations. I was at the concert in Oslo where some idiot threw a lollipop that hit him in his eye. It was obviously very painful and it was his good eye (he had a damaged eye with reduced vision). I was sure he would cancel the rest of the concert, but after a couple of minutes he continued with one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

      @@deerhunter2218 Not really. Hated working with Bowie is probably closer to the truth. Morrissey idolized Bowie when he was younger. Did you read his autobiography? He was ecstatic when Bowie invited him over to listen to his cover of "I Know It's Gonna Happen". When Morrissey co-headlined the Outside tour, he probably realized that David the businessman was very different than the myth of David Bowie that he loved, and he was disillusioned with him.
      His admiration for the art though never wavered.

      @@suzannezaza9878 Bowie hired and fired session players more than a mcdonalds worker would get sacked! He had no loyalty whatsoever to the guys who made him sound, well, ok, he was a big head who demanded respect and if he didn't get it from certain quarters, they were gone, those clowns van Halen demanded $1m dollars for a gig the Clash were playing at, Joe Strummer called them greedy bastards and then when Bowie was asked to play he demanded $1.5m, greedy wanker

    Yeah, I adored Morrissey, i was LUCKY enough to be up front, slightly right of center stage during this concert. I got to grab his hand a few times, and were it not of fear of being kicked out of the FORUM, i would of jumped up on that stage too! Haha. It was surreal. I hadn't realized how BLUE his eyes are.

    I was there at Forum with my seats facing the stage. I have told the story about that night hundreds of times and the release of this video and track helps me to believe it happened.
    It was a wonderful surprise and the first I had seen Moz live.
    The whole concert was a wave of instant gratification for all of us misfits.
