New Girl is one of my comfort shows. I've watched it several times and always watch the Christmas episodes now in December. It's a quirky but very wholesome show and it always makes me feel good. It's also filled with neurodivergent characters and it's great to see them find their way and be successful in life I their own ways. As an adhd person myself that's a comforting thing.
When you said "I will fight anyone - I mean respectfully! " that was so very Jess of you! 😂 I also love the show and I wouldnt have come up with it myself, but as you pointed it out, the two of you are so similar!"
Omg I'm so excited for you and so jealous that youre seeing New Girl for the first time, I KNEW you'd love it and girl, buckle up bc it just gets better and better. 🥰 It has one of my favorite romantic moments and some other absolute gems and well as truly laugh out loud moments too. And I cackled when you mentioned your theory about Schmidt, now I have to go back and rewatch from that POV but I think it totally tracks 🤣🤣
13:17 it’s hilarious, I haven’t watched the show (ADHD makes it hard to watch TV like that) but I know exactly the scene you are describing because I’ve watched YT videos ABOUT the show (which my brain does let me do) and I also loved that scene! 😂
glad you're enjoying it!! i watched new girl as it came out and loved it; i think jess, and the way she related to people, was pretty influential to me in my late teens/early twenties, as i left an alienating childhood and learned to make connections with care/intention. i think a lot of it holds up despite it starting during that peak neo-liberal ob*ma tv era and trying to keep the energy going as that period ended and the first tr*mp term ramped up. some abolitionists might have critiques on certain choices... at least i do lol. but anyway, lots of gut-busting laughs and cozy vibes and a few moments that will make you scrEEEam (in a good way) to come. season 2 has so many great episodes and i think there are enough good eps in the rest of the seasons to make it worth watching :)
also love the friendships and how often all of them come together at the end to help each other or have fun together - take the wedding episode in season 1 for example!
Schmidt's relationship with Nick is definitely very intense and I can totally see what you mean even though I don't ship them myself! I always found Schmidt's character very intriguing as well - he can be so problematic/douchey as you said but then also so vulnerable and full of love and very particular about cleaning and fashion and skincare etc. - definitely a complex character like you said! Without spoilers, there are definitely some more queer-coded Schmidt moments to come!

The way I CACKLED when you brought Nova’s sleepy face in frame, like fully supporting the weight of his tired lil head 😂😂😂

Never seen anything of this show, but I enjoyed this video nonetheless.
Elly, were there any shows that you WERE allowed to watch as a child that you think still hold up/would watch today?
Also, your should really watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer! I think you will really like it!
There's a video on UA-cam of an autistic creator explaining how she sees herself in Jess and that gave me a new perspective on the show
