@@amydefe in a less public forum, I'd discuss a number of things I've learned regarding SSRI's, but some of it is relatively new data, and it's a bit sparse....I wouldn't want someone to read my words, take them as gospel and act upon them as a solid source of learning, there's already enough of that to last till next century.....and besides that, this is YOUR channel, so I don't want to monopolize the comment section. Some of the latest research with psychedelics shows the amazing amount of potential both for treatment of depression, but even more shocking is the effects shown on alcohol abstinence and breaking addictive cycles. I’ve been severely depressed for many years and have tried a couple of other medication combinations but have felt no consistent relief. I’ve also been in therapy, groups, I’m a year and a half sober, tried TMS, Ketamine Infusions, and I’m still suffering terribly. It’s to the point I fantasize about suicide, and know I’m going to have to surrender to the idea of trying SSRI’s like Lexapro to combat this but I’m terrified of the side effect horror stories. I’m so tired of feeling this low but there’s so much conflicting information about whether or not medication is beneficial or not for those who struggle with consistent recurring depressive symptoms. I’m so indecisive and horribly uncomfortable and feel like giving up altogether.

Hi. From my experience, let me tell you that yes, for sure from the beginning it can make you feel more anxious but it is worth it. As soon as, it hits you, you will feel better and better every day. I am not saying that you should take SSRI, I'm just telling my experience. If you are considering to take medication don't be afraid.
I didn’t feel increased anxiety in the beginning, just a little drowsy but my panic attacks felt like heat waves throughout my body and then they vanished. Best thing I ever did for myself ❤please consider it.

I'm glad that you are doing informative videos like this......the medical community hasn't been as revealing to their patients due to time, and sheer volumes of other things to remember. But even so, a pharmacist would have a difficult time expressing everything about how SSRI's treat depression, because in part, medical science kind of doesn't really know for sure.
Well, somethings in this existence are bound to remain puzzling, right?!
Thanks again for the video and keep up the good work 🖖
Strange I took it in the past and getting off of it wasnt bad at all
I got off them also and they worked. But had no problem quitting at all. Everyone is different.
How long was you on them before getting off? Perhaps it is harder to wean off, the longer you are on them, not sure.@@blossompure
My GP prescribed me lexapro 5mg last week… it’s been 8 days since i started taking it. At first I was very scared of taking antidepressants… wish me luck
How are you doing now?
@@tonyanthonyironman4352 well after 2 weeks my GP change it to Zoloft. Now I am taking Zoloft 75mg daily…. Well right now I feel less anxious compared to past

I was on Lexapro for 2 years and LOOOVED IT!!!! I gained 15 pounds during that time tho so I weaned off lol

It's called placebo lol

gracias por tu video positivo me das mucha esperanza. gracias
So happy to hear your positive experience it gives me hope 🤍 on my fourth day of taking lexapro and my anxiety has heightened. Hoping it’s just the first few weeks as I get used to it.
I actually do remember my anxiety being slightly heightened during the first week of taking lexapro - I hope it will reside for you soon, you're amazing for taking steps towards recovery🤍
Update ????
any update ?
we would love to hear an update from you
@@ArthurLeonidasLaurent i can definitely post a video update! honestly haven't had many changes, i'm still feeling really good on them. definitely not as an extreme difference as it was initially but they still have helped so much. :)
First day taking it. Good so far
i'm glad to hear that it's been good so far!
I felt so sad reading that because depression had me in the exact same place :( SSRI's have definitely helped me to create space from my depression but I agree there is just so much conflicting information out there. Ultimately you know what's best for you, I know antidepressants are sort of a "quick fix" but having this period of space from my depression has been such a relief even if it is temporary. It's just nice to take a break from feeling so bad. :P I really really hope things will get better for you and that if you do start taking SSRI's you'll have a similar experience as me.❤
@@amydefe Thank You for responding Amy. I’m crying out for help and advice before this illness kills me. I’m very conflicted and indescribably internally sad. I need the pain to stop even if it’s only temporary. I’m glad you have had positive results and wish you continued success.
@@vanillametal7256 Are you able to contact a help line just to have someone to speak to you until you get meds?
@@vanillametal7256 Thank you very much I am wishing you the best in your recovery I hope that you can work with a professional to get you the best possible treatment. You don't deserve to feel this pain😔
@@agnesbukasa357 A deep Thank You for your concern. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist at the end of the month and I will honestly explain my crisis situation. I also have a therapist that I speak with twice a week. Help lines or my current medications really don’t seem to be effective for me.
.
I can get so angry about people and family members not beleving your experience. I have the same. These ssri's start working immidietly and thats a fact.
Agreed :( I feel like it's mostly people who don't have depression that act like SSRIs can't help
@@amydefe Im personally in a very tough situation. My family wants me to go on them but i dont. But i have ocd and health anxiety and because of them a constant pressure that i wouldnt be able to make it without them. Im constantly doubting the choice wich is what makes things worse.
@@jochy67 aw that is so difficult i'm so sorry that they're making you feel like you have to be taking them :( there are so many other treatments like therapy and i feel like only you know what's best for you. praying your situation gets better❤
Thanks, I've been on escitaloprám for almost 3 weeks but yet to see any improvement. The first couple of weeks was tough with increased anxiety as the major SA. At times I am just wondering whether it's working 😟 I've suffered from a burn out 6 months ago, then came anxiety as the result, it's been a tough time 😥
I am so sorry to hear about the tough time you are going through :( It can be frustrating to feel like the meds are not working for you. I definitely feel that my anxiety was heightened when I first started taking it but that has lessened for me now. I hope that you are able to feel improvement but if you don't, always remember that there are other antidepressants out there that might work better for you! I know there can be a lot of trial and error at first to find the best one. Wishing you the best
@@amydefe thanks, my doctor said it could take up to 8 weeks to know. So won't give up and will stick it out and see 🙏 by the way, did you have any any experience with ringing in the ear?
@@justech05 Ah that makes sense, it can definitely take some time for your body to get used to it. I didn't notice ringing in my ear although that is something that has happened to me randomly even when I wasn't on antidepressants so maybe I just haven't been able to tell!
@@amydefe it's likely anxiety and stress cause the ringing and it's horrible. Nothing we can do about it.
@@justech05 Ah that makes sense :( I'm sorry to hear that, I hope eventually the medicine will be able to help your stress subside!
Are you still on meds? I've been really struggling with depression for 1.5 years and thinking of trying 5-10mg. Great video by the way !
thank you so so much!❤i have actually been off of antidepressants for around six months, but honestly am thinking of going back on them due to my depression coming back. i wish you the best in your journey and pray that things get better!

@@amydefe are u taking them again?also how u wean them off without withdrawals please help
Hi nice to hear u talking your experience, but were you feeling physical symptoms also like difficulty breathing? 🤔
Thanks so much for your comment! The only physical symptom I've had was a slight headache upon the first few days of starting the medicine, I haven't heard about difficulty breathing as a side effect so I would definitely double check with your prescriber to make sure all is okay. Wishing you the best♥
Blessings and good luck for you Amy
thank you so much, that means a lot 🙏
When you did the video I was starting lexapro… I finally quit.
Hair loss ???
last friday my therapist brought up trying to see if an SSRI would help me with my anxiety. i don’t have depression just anxiety…
I’ve been really debating it bc i feel like if i take it it’ll make me feel defeated bc i can’t get rid of it alone. also i don’t wanna be dependent on a substance to feel “okay”. i wanna be able to do it alone. but it’s been 2 years so idk what to do. i might try it…
but also I’ve heard they can made you feel more anxious in the beginning and i DO NOT need anymore anxiety at all :c conflicted
Did you take it in the morning or night
i take it in the morning :)
Very helpful for me. Thank you.
How long before it works i have been on it 4 weeks
Please research Robert Whitaker before taking any antidepressant medication. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in his work on the subject. Antidepressants can work up to three or four years and then you’re worse off than you were and dependent on medication and now with side effects. His evidence based medicine research is world renowned and published. He has two books. ‘Anatomy of an epidemic’, and ‘mad in America’. Please read and be informed before doing this to your brain and body.
thank you for sharing this - that makes a lot of sense from my experience in the past. i took them for around 3-4 years before feeling like i wanted to come off of them. seems like with depression it's a lot of off/on with medication but it's really so different for everyone!
His not a doctor, is a writer. Su tú no temes a los antidepresivos está bien, pero sí los demás los quieren tomar también está bien. Investiga para ti y decide por ti.
If you search any drug you can find there are lots of bad things for that. Search bad effects statins for cholesterol. 😊
You make no sense. People have been taking ssri’s for 20+ years because it helps them.
Some people would rather live with brain damage and PSSD than admit, that they have been screwed over. Lost cause.
good for you but me lexapro destroyed my life
Have u faced any side effects??
i only noticed that i had a headache the first few days of taking it - i haven't noticed any side effects since then!
@@amydefe do these medicines induce suicide tendencies??
@@SivaSankar-ij8wz yes, they can - this has actually happened to me before with a different antidepressant. it's super important to work with a doctor when you are on these medications for that reason!!
@@amydefe after using for how many days you got that feeling??
@@SivaSankar-ij8wz i noticed it very quickly - after only a few days! i saw my therapist and she had me speak to a psychology immediately to help me get on a medicine that was better for me.

Your vegan diet could actually make your depression worse
I actually felt even more depressed before I went vegan :( I know it can be common to not be getting all of the right vitamins when going vegan which can definitely contribute to people's depression!
Therapy feels like crappy gaslighting to me. Antidepressants “help” but therapy is crap.
if u want to know the source of depression more take mushrooms too
How are you doing today ?

It may be a short term fix but long term data is horrible to take antidepressants.
Are you talking out of experience or? What are people who suffer from depression and nothing worked for them supposed to do then? She literally said she tried EVERYTHING before taking this decision, do you have any other solution? Enlighten us PLEASE.
@@dogoislove8971 i am suffering from cocktail of psych drugs .. i am worse than before ..

Whatever works for you. Sometimes it is even worse not to take antidepressants. For some people it's much better to be on them long term.
