After having driven the 'Fiabusa' from ZCars last week, in part 2 I drive the incredible Subaru powered Fiat 500...the Fubaru. With 170 horsepower and nearly twice the torque of the Hayabusa powered car it is interesting to see if they drive differently.

Makes me go all fuzzy knowing there's still crazy people building bonkers stuff.
How awesome.
The "Fubaru" is more my type of conversion. More drivable and I would guess more reliable.
and i love the rally car look too :)
Yeah, it won't require a valve adjustment every 30,000 km.
Nothing wrong with the Reliability on that frenetic Bike engine . And the REST of the driveline has to deal with less Torque load .
I , however , agree . I think the Fubaru would be MUCH easier to live with .
Both of these cars are fantastic. As a motorcyclist, I love the idea of the Fiabusa but as a former owner of a early Subaru, The Fubaru is probably more my cup of tea. my '73 Subaru had a 1400 cc engine with front wheel drive. It was not nearly as fast as today's Subarus but it was fun to drive. When the puny little non-catalitic exhaust went bad, I had a muffler shop fabricate a dual exhaust for it. When you first started it everything sounded normal (too quiet). Forget the radio, you couldn't hear it anyway. Let off the gas at any speed and you got a wonderfully satisfying pop-pop-pop. Guys thought I had stuffed a V-8 in the car. It sounded meaner than a WRX and even louder.
My goodness the fun you would have in this!!! The sound is amazing and I love the seats. Absolutely magic.
Absolutely awesome exhaust note when the car is on the move and a great bit of automotive engineering. As soon as they have finished the Subaru STI turbo charged engine you will have to get it on the channel Pete as that will just be insane.
why couldnt they put the engine in the front? would have been pretty cool to have awd fubaru
Outstanding content... as always Ped! I prefer the Fubaru over the Fiabusa
And Me 👍🏻
And me
Thanks 🙏🏻
Awesome sound, 100% testosterone.
Fiabru 500 would be better name..
The sound of that car from behind when you switch gears is just gorgeous. Lovely rap from that motor. Thanks.
Absolutely awesome. Sound brilliant. I want one.....of each!
Need more of these cars on the road. Fun, reliable but when you want to put your foot down and go! Holy moly
Absolutely incredible car ,and a superb soundtrack .fiat 500 forever love it
Like the Fiabusa a lot, but absolutely love the Fubaru. I didn't know your channel, accidentally came across it. I like it. Subscribed to it, to be notified for more content, and definitely going to look for more 'older' content on your channel. Thanks for uploading these 2🙂
I love both Haya and Fuba but the Fubaru is def my favorite. I own an Abarth 595 Comp and it is my dream to restore a Fiat-Abarth 850 TC (or just flat out buy one of these z cars). Awesome content as usual, would love to see more happy Z car craziness!!
I really liked the Fiabusa but this one is even better. This has put me in the mood for my two back-to-back episodes of Fast 'N' Loud tonight.
Great stuff!
The Fiabusa is an angry, hair on fire, adrenaline rush type of car to rip around in and get your animosity’s out in. Crazy fun!
Where the Fubaru is a more relaxed car that I would actually use as a daily driver. A kind of quiet, reserved, useable car with an incredible exhaust note to let everyone know it has plenty of grunt... and not to mess with it...
Truly great stuff. Makes me a little salty I can’t get one done for me here in the USA...🤷🏻♂️😎 I really enjoyed you showing it to us. Awesome!
Thank you for enabling us to learn about Z Cars! Dave is brilliant to watch and listen to. Love the Fubaru, the Fiabusa AND that insane Classic Mini Type R of his. Having a Brabus 451 myself, I can’t wait to see Dave’s Smart Fortwo Brabus with a Type R engine in the back! Thank you so much 😊
More coming to the channel soon 👍
Another awesome 2 films Petrol Ped! Please keep them coming! 😀👍🏻
How mad would it be to have a look into the mind of Z Cars to see what's on the 'to do' list! 🤣
Great build,i know its been done before but one of these with a Ducati V-twin or even the V4 would be fun!! 👍
Wow 🤩 I’m in love with this Fubaru. What a sound from that Scooby motor, lovely burble on overrun in fifth 🥰 bring on the turbo. These videos are what makes Petrol Ped so special 😎
Hi men I have seen both videos, I must say this is a long time dream of mine to run my 500 by a Hayabusa engine. Thank you so much for your videos they made my day!!!
I'd take the look of the Fiabusa with this engine as my ultimate country to city run-around. Incredible work. So cool.
Z Cars are well known for some incredible engineering with Mini’s, but the Fubaru is next level 👏 Tempted to say this is the better of the two… Do we see rear lights from a Mini?
Imagine walking down a country road and the engine sound gets louder as it gets closer, you turn around and it’s a little Fiat 500. Incredible
Love to see the startled faces of the people in car in front and passing by when you tootled up behind them n blipped the throttle! Music to the ears!!
Based on the sound this thing makes, you would never expect it to be a Fiat 500 😂
Love it !
The one forward gear and 5 reverse gears was the old joke about Italian tanks in WWII, much prefer the scooby powered one for the off beat rumble :)
This car looked to be so much fun to drive and the smile on your face told the story. Both cars are awesome but I would take this one because of that fabulous sound and conventional shift, better comfort and stereo. Cool!
Wow it reminds me of the old days back in Italy, the classic one was fitting a Volkswagen Beatle engine in the Fiat 500, almost a straight swap.
What a delight that was watching these 2 video's. I drive a slightly upgraded Impreza WRX 2009 as a daily so my vote goes to the Fubaru but I like the sequential gearbox of the Fiabusa, that seems like a ton of fun. I saw in the comments below the mention of the Subaru engine being more reliable...now those to words don't go well together, unless you take enormously good care of your engine. It is after all a boxer and known to be quite itchy. None the less, amazing craftmanship by Zcarsand can't wait to see the video when the STI gets on the road. Thanks for the view :)
Bravo. Enjoyed both videos. Absolutely genius, would love to have either one. That fiat sounds epic accelerating. Wow.
Thank You for all of your videos that you did. I am enjoying all of them
My pleasure 👍
The initial slow bubbling exhaust note is addictive and lulls you to sleep for the almost human sound emission under acceleration. version. A four wheel drive version would be the ultimate.
Wow what a piece of engineering. Looks and sounds awesome Yet again another great video mate.
He looks a bit more relaxed
Been waiting all week for this one being a Subaru nut ,can’t wait for the turbo version
Keep up the great videos
He was 😂
Fabulous, Ped! Great stuff! Thanks
I’d definitely do the fubaru and even try to rally it a bit! Great review Sir Pete and a fantastic sounding
Definitely the Fubaru for me, I just love the sound and looks like so much fun.
The Subaru “reversed” gearbox is the brainchild of an Australian engineer. It is used in the popular Subaru conversions done on VW Beetles and Kombis. In fact I am in the process of putting a 2.5 litre Subaru (Legacy) engine and “reversed” gearbox into a VW T3/T25.
Subarugear au company Subaru front wheel conversion or front wheel conversion like this fiat . I’m putting 300 whp through a 2015 + wrx 6 speed manual in a 914
Hope you'll post videos.
We did similar with Corvair engines in Bugs 'n Busses in the 70's.
i want to put the Porsche NA 3.0 in my Forester =)
Didn’t know that chur ❤️
A popular conversion back when was a Corvair flat six into a VW beetle ...I wonder if such an engine would fit into a little Fiat 500
Back in the early 1970s, a couple of racing drivers put a Ford Cleveland 351 cubic inch V8- rated at between 350 and 380 BHP (but listed as 300 BHP for insurance purposes)- into a Mini.
To chose between the two.......very difficult, dam it I'll have both, excellent presentation, very impressed.
I love them both. Thanks for the experience men!
👍
Fubaru is my winner 🏆 sounds amazing 😉
Great vid,thank you.Fubaru for me I think.More relaxing and a great sound.
Really enjoyed the content. Talented fabricator.
The coolest thing about that gearbox other than the reversed output is that subaru ran the output shaft for the front drive through the output gearshaft, sothere are driven shafts inside driven shafts lol
This is insanely cool, the sub sound is so good 👍
Have to see the Smart car, loved mine after a good remap and other mods, would love another one.
Love this madness. Enjoyed your explanation of the engineering. Thank you Ped.
👍
The review of these cars reminds me of riding along with an English friend in the middle 80’s in his supped-up vintage Mini Cooper. I was stationed at RAF Fairford (USAF). Great stuff!!! Thanks! ✌️🌞😎🎻
Great conversion. Exactly what Collin Chapman did with the 60’s Lotus Europa. Take the engine and gearbox from a front wheel drive Renault 16 and turn that unit around 180deg. Reverse the differential and there you go. Old skool genius re-applied 50 years on.
That gave me goosebumps watching this pete wot a sound 😳 🥰
Absolutely Brill. Does Z-cars do any videos behind the engineering. Love to see the build.
Love it mate! I love the 500 anyway, always have. My mum drove a 600 waaaaaaay back in '59/'60 in Tripoli, though I don't remember it. My sis was 5, I was 3 and my bro didn't even exist. And of course we all love that special Subaru boxer sound. And come on man, folding roof, not retractable, Shirley if it's cloth, it folds
Doamne cât mi-aş dori aşa o maşinuță!O iubesc!😘❤💋From România pupici!😘😘😘
Shame there’s not a build video of this- would be awesome to see it go together😁
Man o man wicked rides they are Pete ! The noise is awesome but I still love the sequential box 🍻👍🏻🇨🇦
Hi Ped
Very interesting to compare this with Hyabusa. This car is the perfect Q Pocket Rocket, and very much a useable car on the road. The bike engined version would make a fun Hill Climb Car, where you could explore the 11000rpm limit. I am sure Z Cars could easily fit a Roll Cage. 😉 Your video once again draws attention to the wide engineering skill base we have in this country. Well done Z Cars.🍷🍷
Awesome ! I just stumbled upon the same owner's Mini in an earlier video and now this 😊
Nice car but I'd have last week's if it was me. A car like this should be totally mental. Great couple of videos Ped.
I couldn't wait for this vid woohoo👏👏👏👏👌👌👌😃😃😃😃great viewing keep up the great work Petrol Ped
👍
Evening, love both cars. Completely bonkers in different ways 👍
The Fubaru with turbo, Nice! 🤩
Loved both videos, as usual. But, sunny Sunday morning and the keys to both, it would have to be the Fiabusa. I think the 11,000 rpm and sequential box would blow me away! Ahh, to dream, anyway any Charlie, Ruby or dog walks on the way? I love that content. Anyway, cheers.👍👍
You could just as easily turbo/big bore the Busa ,and get well over 250 bhp.
I'm brand new to your channel (hard to understand why it hasn't popped up in my feed sooner???).
I saw the Fiabusa yesterday and it's power delivery is just as I suspected it would be as a former owner of both a 2006 Yamaha FZ1 and a 2008 Hyabusa.
The Fiabusa would make for a fun vehicle to have out on a race track, but the lack of low end torque and deafening engine/exhaust sounds in the cabin would be unbearable for me in stop and go traffic.
For me, it's the Fubaru. I would love to drive it anywhere, anytime. The exhaust note is incredible and the ability to pull hard without a downshift is something I'd welcome very much.
I live in the USA and have owned at least one (often several) high output V8 powered car for the past 40 years and grew up working on 1960's - early 1970's muscle cars.
Thank you for the Fiat 500 videos, the are much appreciated.
I look forward to more videos such as these two. In the meantime I have many of your previous videos to check out.
Thanks!👍
Hi David. So glad you enjoyed it and welcome to the channel 👍
Yep that’s really cool, the noise, prefer to the bike 🏍 one!!
Enjoying your videos 👍👍
Chuffin Nora!! Lovely engine note Peter 👌👍
My first thought when I heard the Fubaru was "Group B Rally Car". I Sooooo want one of these!
BEAUTIFUL CAR THANK YOU
And here's me thinking my new OG M2 sounds good! That sounds wicked.
Love the sound of that fubaru that would be my choice
Sound is insane of this litlle car,stuning...
If i didn't new any better, i would have thought that it sound a lot like a spiced up VW Beatle ...
Non the less, that really is an awesome built.
Well done guys !!! 👌😎
"This is a proper pocket rocket"
Project Binky..."hold my custom bracket"
Noddy and big ears out for a Sunday drive it’s nuts 👍🧽😂
This is awesome
Impressive... hat off to Z Cars 👍
love that little white Abarth, would love to drive it thru the Dolomites and the Alps.
Fantastic. Did you not ask to roll the roof back? Would it have made the sound even better. "Why didn't Fiat do this start with?" I wonder!!! Just love it, Fubaru is my favourite, awesome Pedro. Well done, again.
It would be would have been a nightmare for my mics 😂
Wowww.. So awesome. I would love this more than the one with hayabusa engine as it drive more car. Both given so much fun, speed and trik
👍
No question I’d have this over the Fiabusa. Had two Imprezas in my youth and the Subaru engine note is still one of the best ever.
The black fia that looks stunning and a bike engine that's class
fiabusa just for the hell of it great videos awesome cars
Wow, that Subie engine sounds amazing. Definitely prefer the Fubaru.
Absolutely beautiful car, both cars are beautiful
This just gives me the giggles. And executed so well.
Love it that sound
This was done 20 plus years ago with an Alfa Sud engine . That was a fabulous little car.
Yes, and even earlier.
I had the opportunity to drive one fitted with an Alfa 33 1.7 engine back in the early 90's.
A very quick little car.
And several years later fitted with a Volumex supercharger.
But unfortunately didn't get to drive it in that state of tune.
Can't believe you didn't have a drag race between the two, it would be interesting to see if power only wins arguments and torque really does win races. The two of them are amazing cars
Sadly very difficult and costly to arrange 😢
@@PetrolPed Speak to Matt Watson, would be cool to see on car wow
sounds awesome
Put me down for a fubaru with turbo WRX engine 😁 great video Pete .👍
Both video’s are awesome…. Definitely a fan of the Fubaru…. I’d love to see someone put that Subaru engine in a old school VW Bug…. That would be something!
Thanks 👍
Amazing machine. So torn which of the two I prefer. So different, but both so nice. Almost need one of each. :)
I need both! As they'll go with my mood. 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼
That's so beautiful and so cute car or bike i'm so amazed love it
Incredible!
Nice to see an Italian numberplate-of course! Only thing, is TR (which stands for Terni) is the rival city to my home town!
OMG !! and i thought the Fiabusa was good !!🤤 cant wait for the wrx model 💪👍🤤 seeing this car blasting towards u but second guessing where that awesome sounds coming from !🤔
If it were food, my mouth would be watering. Such a tasty idea tastefully executed.
I thought they used some sorcery to keep the subaru AWD, too bad but understandable. Would be so cool to see a AWD fiat 500 with this much power
Flying car without the wings!
Very cool, cheers.
👍
