Awesome machines and incredible skills to build those dream cars! I bought a Fiat128 from 1983 to restore and make it look nice to drive in a daily basis (and maybe add some nice ideas), but things like this are just way out of my budget and skills!
One thing about the Hayabusa engine is that it is a super long stroke engine, with a TON of low end torque. Liter bikes generally have a 2.0 inch stroke, compared to 2.56 inches for the Haybusa 2nd and 3rd generation engine. That's 50.9mm for the 2022 Yamaha R1 vs. 65mm for the 2008 and up Hayabusa engine. The longer stroke makes the Hayabusa engine into a totally usable car engine, with a ton of torque starting right around 3,000 rpms. There aren't many motorcycle engines that can revv as high, but also retain that level of low end torque.
What a fantastic piece of kit. Engineering just because he can, brilliant. Things like this make this country great.. It looks and sounds mental and speed is relative, it's not all about being the fastest car on the road., it's about having a great driving experience.. Love it!
If you search hayabusa mini you might find another video. I agree though, I so miss the sound of motorcycles since I’ve not been riding. The 4-cyl sportbike sound really pleases me.
You'll probably find that giving the throttle a little blip on the downshifts and just fan the clutch will make them smooth with no clunking/crunching. 35 years on bikes here and that's how you handle a constant speed motorcycle gearbox.
Oh my...poor little gearbox! Sure, when you are pushing it and shifting up near 10k rpms it's completely fine without a clutch. But downshifting without a clutch? What did that poor gearbox did to you to torture it like that? You need clutch and throttle blip when downshifting with motorcycle gearbox! Also when you are doing it right, you don't need to bang that stick with such force, it should be smooth. Those car guys ;-) Obviously this car should be banned without previous motorcycle experience :-)
Brilliant, breath of fresh air in amongst everyday factory sterile cars. Wonder if you might manage a visit to Z cars workshop if they wouldnt mind showing off some their projects.
Having a "turbo busa" is a thing among hayabusa owners... let's get a turbo in this car! Absolutely mental car, would love to own something similar one day. Thanks for the great video!

@@laurencew5220 I don't remember the exact bike, it was a late 80's street cruiser like a goldwing but a bit smaller bike. Probably around 800cc or so, could have been larger. Whatever it was, was more than enough for a kart. It was scary as hell to drive.

This gave me flashbacks to my bonkers MK Indy (Lotus 7 style kit car) with Hyabusa engine and gearbox, which weighed around 450kg. The sequential box takes some getting used to, mine didn't have a reverse gear though, or roof or windscreen, so a full face helmet was required.......3 seconds 0 to 60 though ;) I also had a classic mini with a Yamaha R1 engine in the back, it used an electric switch connected to a starter motor for a reverse gear....which I broke on its first outing. That reverse gear solution looks much better, and stronger.
Downshifting without using the clutch is actually not a bit deal. I had just 3-4 strands left on the clutch cable of my CBR1000RR and had to get us 300 miles to my replacement cable. As you say, shifting up is not a problem. Downshifting, if you match the revs properly, is just as smooth. And yes, I did make it all the way to where my new clutch cable was waiting for me.

I am considering a future for my BMW K1300 engine in a Lotus 7

Maybe one or two car drivers can see why we bikers love motorbikes. Nothing like a powerful engine, sequential gearbox and a quick shifter that momentarily cuts the ignition to allow the next gear to slip in without the clutch. Many of the newer bikes now come with an auto blipper so you can also go down through the gears without the clutch.
The only "problem" with this drive are the drivers that are trying to drive a motorcycle engine like it's a car engine. Half of the time you were just hearing bad clutch shifting and at low revs. Give this car to a biker and you'll truly see what is capable of. Nice try though. Thanks for the review guys😉
As a biker and just like my truck and gsxr I only use the clutch for start and stop and only start and stop, all bikes have a sequential transmission meaning you do not have to use the clutch period when shifting. The clunking you hear is the dog box as well as that quaf gear box in the back.
Wow, this is the car my father taught me driving when I was 12. But it was a 1969 Steyr Puch (not Fiat!) with an air cooled 493cc 16 hp engine. It made 55 mph downhill with tailwind and the sun behind….🤪🫣

Ahh, this makes me miss my 2005 GSX-R so much. It was a 600 but I had cams on it, full Yosh exhaust, and a PC3 with a good dyno tune. Christ I really need a Gixxer back in my life but I Can't for the life of me find one for sale in my island. They're only selling the brand new GSX-S bikes and old ones up to 05. After I sold my 05 I always wanted to get a 2008-2012 one but never could because of space constraints. Now I can get one but I can't find any for sale ffs. Feels amazing going up the gears without a clutch innit? I learned quickly and basically never used the clutch except to put it on 1st and when downshifting. On the bike though, I'd have to let off the gas for a split second right before upshifting though, but they were nearly instant shifts and they sounded just like when you were going flat out on the fiabusa. Good ol' days.
While the US have produced some great Road cars and brilliant Hypercars, there tends to be an obsession with horsepower whatever the cost. Power to weight ratio is king 👍
Peter... the look on your face was priceless!! Lovely little pocket rocket! Cheers. Leigh. PS: The Viva's exterior will be in base coat & lacquer by the end of next month... Still lots to do & spend yet, though!
To complete this build they need to add a Pro-Shift device that cuts the ignition on up and down shift to make them even smoother. I think some of the devices can even blip the throttle on downshifts.
@@shaggings Really quite difficult on such light rotating masses, sooo easy to blip for just too long or not long enough, especially with a throttle pedal instead of twist grip. Better to shift up by coming off the throttle a little and shifting up without clutching, and if you haven't got an auto blipper.. do your best on down changes, I found easing the clutch in slowly to be the only thing that worked for smoothness and that was with a slipper clutch.

I'm American and bigger is always better but I can't help but be obsessed with the way you guys do more with less I want one so bad
I want to see the looks on the faces of the people who were coming the other way!
To complete this build they need to add a Pro-Shift device that cuts the ignition on up and down shift to make them even smoother. I think some of the devices can even blip the throttle on downshifts.
Blippers are pretty common for motorbikes. Usually costs less than 1k€ and is easy to install.
or learn to rev match yourself?
@@shaggings Really quite difficult on such light rotating masses, sooo easy to blip for just too long or not long enough, especially with a throttle pedal instead of twist grip. Better to shift up by coming off the throttle a little and shifting up without clutching, and if you haven't got an auto blipper.. do your best on down changes, I found easing the clutch in slowly to be the only thing that worked for smoothness and that was with a slipper clutch.
Yep, my BMW S1000XR has clutchless upshifts and downshifts at any revs,
I wish they kept the classic interior or something that looks alike. This gives it away so much.
