- Опубліковано 12 чер 2024
- Slash has had quite a life. The hall-of-fame guitarist is inextricably linked to the band that made him famous, Guns N' Roses, but he's had quite a career outside the band, too. He's released two solo albums and was a founding member of Velvet Revolver.
Slash has had quite the life beyond music, too, from his mixed-race background to his interest in BMX racing in his youth. He's likewise had more than his share of struggles, particularly when it comes to substance abuse. Slash has definitely reached a point where he doesn't take his life for granted. This is the untold truth of Slash.

What has been your favorite performance by Slash/Guns N' Roses?
Slash solo, “The Godfather”
National Anthem -
November Rain & Don't Cry solos
I believe Slash’s peak was when he played at the Freddie Mercury Tribute, when he played Tie your mother down. That has got to be Slash’s greatest performance ever!
@@aviiky8961 For sure. One of my favorite performances.
After losing so many rock legends to drugs and alcohol it’s nice to see that Slash turned his whole life around and is doing great
Same thing with ozzy
That’s cus he’s from Stoke Originally 👌
I love his Instagram too. He's one funny dude!
@ConwayTwitterdamn that’s very unfortunate… sorry for your loss
it was all thanks to Perla Ferrar, his ex wife, it was said by him on his book
Slash is the only guitarist that can make a top hat look freaking awesome.
I read the bio he did- the hat was actually stolen by him! hahaha! he's freakin great!
He will admit that T. rex played his role well before him.
Alice Cooper said it came from him and he let Slash keep the persona.
He’s the only person in the world who can a top hat look awesome. Other than Abe Lincoln
Right
I’m glad this man has been alive. He has much more of an impact on my life than he knows !
me too broo
sounds awesome, can you elaborate ? would love to hear as a GNR fan
Slash is one of the elite few guitarists weather doing a cover, original tune, or what band he is playing with you know without seeing him you know it's Slash playing. His style is so advanced and unique it's his signature.
Slash first started playing accustic guitar at age 12 and even his big riff on the song sweet child of mine he first played it on an accustick guitar, he took his accustick guitar with him every where on the bus on the subway and on his bmx bike. Latter he switched to electric guitars and now Slash has a huge collection of over 140 electric guitars. I seen him live in Vancouver BC and when he started his riff of sweet child of mine the sold out crown stud up and went nuts, WOW what a night that was!!!!! He's so cool so talented, and fabulous!!!🤪🤪😎😎👍👍🤩🤩
Xcept when he did a cover from Ozzy....that 1 was cringe
@@overthehillsandfaraway7104 couldnt be any worse than Axl filled in with AC/DC god I lost a lot of respect for angus
Enter buckethead
I don’t see slash that good is good but he can only play metal
All my life I’ve never heard slash actually talk in an interview. So surprised that he sounds like a normal ass dude and not this deep voiced British guy I had in my mind. Trippy
Procure mais videos . Ele tem inúmeras entrevistas, mais do que qualquer outro integrante da banda. Assisto várias , apesar de não saber nada em inglês 😁😅
He's been raised in the US from being a young kid.
He was very quiet and didn't talk much; and, I never knew that he was bi- racial 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
LOL, a British accent is normal to people in Britain! His American accent wouldn't sound normal to them.
Man I'm glad he's still alive... he and his music always gave me hope. The fact that we have the same family background, a beautiful black mother a white rebellious father and the feeling of not belonging nowhere. I always felt connected to this man, since the first time I've seen him. And as a kid I always dreamed about that he is like an uncle that visits me once in a while and tells me that my hair looks cool just out of fun because we have the same hair type. God I'm super grateful that I'm allowed to feel such things, I still hope that one day I get the chance to take Slash's portrait.
I am so glad I read your message!! I have both white parents w Cherokee background and half of my family are Filipino. My brother has been called every name in the book from sand n**** to right out trash! It's deplorable! I can't personally relate to what you have had to endure in your life but I find mixed race people to be the most gorgeous and beautiful!! It makes my heart smile to read you have someone you can look to with admiration!!! You ROCK!!! And I'm POSITIVE your hair is as beautiful as you are!!
Can definitely confirm the shyness thing. When I met him in 2008, he was very quiet and shy, anyone would've thought I was the rock star and he was the fan! Lovely guy though and will always be my fave musician.
this guy casually comments he met Slash
Met him in Atlanta. Probably the coolest, most down to Earth famous person I've ever met.
Slash is a living legend! Can't wait to see them perform this summer
I was lucky enough to shake his hand when I won a Velvet Revolver competition a local TV show had arranged. Was shitting bricks when he arrived! Lol! Such a cool and laid back dude, though. Took a picture with him and he signed my VR poster I had brought with me. Great times!
@No Name Channel chocolate chips? Yeah, sure!
Very cool, thanks for sharing!
@No Name Channel I do !
@No Name Channel I'll have a white chocolate with macadamia please
Slash is just fine as wine.
He seems to be a pretty genuine, down to earth dude.
All the good ones are
hes one of the only players that when he's at his top speed, still sounds musical and tasty, other fast players sound souless in comparison.
Not always, he also turns on the autopilot a lot when playing fast. The guy has good shows and bad ones too. The secret of Slash is his powerful vibrato, which sets him apart despite of sticking to the same pentatonic runs he played 35 yrs ago. Good vibrato goes a long way, and that's also one of the reasons why it's so hard to sound exactly like him.
I'm playing because of him, but 30 yrs afterwards I have to admit I find him boring and soulless because he is just cruisin' on his old self, a lot like Santana after the 70s. Music business (and bad marital decisions in Slash's case) where performers are encouraged to be the same, and do the same after they passed their prime really sucks.
that is what i love about slash that is lost on music nowadays. nuance and interesting timing are usually only perpetually upheld in classical music. their standards are very high. Slash is quite aware at least in recording of timing and nuance. In classical its known that slowing it down to make sure you play it emotionally right is the only way to play it at all hence the lack of soulless shredding from slash.
Ritchie Castellano and Buck Dharma from Blue Oyster Cult can play fast and sound musical.
Jimmy Page
so under rated, he is like my inspiration for playing guitar, rawkus bluesy and emotional is how i describe his unique sleazy vibe, you can play more notes and get fancy and shit but nah, slash plays whats perfect for the song, epic solo's!
Not sure if he’s underrated, most guitar snobs would say he’s overrated. But I agree with your assessment. I like his style. Dirty, sleazy, bluesy rock. Definitely my biggest influence for guitar.
Don't get me wrong I like Slash, but he's all but underrated lol. He is one of the most famous guitarists ever and gets regarded one of the best ever all the time.
He can, and does, shred his ass off when he wants to. He has so much more range than people give him credit for.
What ? Slash is not underrated
When did slash become underrated?🤨
I was 15 years old when i falling in love with Slash. He is really something!
Slash has always been super cool in my eyes, Iv'e been playing Guitar for 31 years and It's definitely a real problem trying to mimick his fingering on the fret board...You Rock Slash...love ya.
Looked up to G’n’R and Slash since the wayback days of hanging around on the playground! As I’ve grown up and now my kids are playing on their own playground, I’ve come to understand Slash better and definitely gain more and more respect for the man. Glad he’s still here, and I’m glad he’s still making damn good music!!
One of my biggest inspirations as a guitarist, I love Slash’s style and soul. He worked really well with Michael Jackson too. They brought out a real energy in each other, Give In To Me is a great track.
He is by far The Best guitarist i have every heard. He makes his guitar actually sing. And so humble yet part of many legendary songs. Such a gifted and sweet man.
He is a solid player and has great riffs and he developed himself a lot in the last 20 years but he’s mediocre compared to other players.
‘The Spaghetti Incident’ wasn’t an “… unsuccessful album”. It was done just for the hell of it… you may have noticed that g’n’r didn’t write ANY of the songs. It was never positioned as ‘the next g’n’r album’.
A album of covers…the name comes from when they found Steven’s heroin which he had hid in a leftover thing of spaghetti in the fridge…he had said he was clean, then they found it and gave him the boot
For sure, I don’t think they excepted that to be a big seller.
@@mr.smithgnrsmith7808 Was that really the reason he was fired? From what I know, he couldn't play drums properly on Civil War and the band didn't want to wait for him anymore to straighten up.
@@adinadamian5634
As someone old enough to remember when it happened 😔 (before the Internet… yes, there was a ‘before’), the reason given at the time was that he had become so unreliable that they couldn’t work with him anymore.
he's a badass and he gave so many killer tunes, I'm glad to hear he takes his health seriously now, I've lost too many music heroes already !!!
Love the ending to this video. Praying for anyone struggling w/ addiction. You are destined for greater works. 💪🏻
I have mad love for slash..I am 22 years sober..my husband passed away from heart failure at 47..because of his lifestyle..he was 10 years clean and sober. 3 years have passed and I am still full of rage that he made his changes and still died from his life choices. 💔 make good choices✌💯
Thank you for your comments.. I respect you
Damn I’m sorry for your loss homie, but seriously congrats & great job on the 22+ years clean that’s awesome, keep it up
When I was growing up in the early 90's Guns and Roses were so damn huge it was ridiculous how famous the band became..! Me, my friends, my brother were massive fans..!
Slash made his own identity! My ultimate guitarist! The reason I actually play!
Met him backstage in Bangkok back in 2019. Very down to earth and cool dude.
Slash is like the batman of rock n’ roll.
It's pretty amazing to actually see what Slash look like since he's always covered by his lovely hair!
Sweet Child o' Mine opening solo & November Rain outro solo is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Saul Hudson is my favourite GnR band member and guitarist, really of all time. I was gutted when they split up and remembered thinking, will I ever again experience another album like "appetite for destruction". Once in a while, the stars come together and align, and the result of that, through all the chaos, is a band like that. I'm thankful to have lived in this time to have experienced what they had to offer, which was a bunch of guys who loved music above everything else.
Yes he’s very shy I got to meet him live and he was nervous more then me at 12
Respect for Slash and for Guns in Roses forever, thank you!
Thank you for putting the help line up at the end of this. Anybody out there struggling with addiction you’re not alone . You can learn how to enjoy life again and it get better . Give yourself a chance. Nobody can do it for you.
I think this guy is literally the most liked guy in rock and roll. He just seems like the most chill, funny dude. Like someone to kick back and eat pizza with while talking about all the rock and roll stories! He's hilarious too. His Instagram is literally gold(if you haven't followed him, now is your sign to)! Always cheers me up when I'm having a bad day with the silly pictures and videos. He's like what snoop dog is to rap. He is to rock and roll! Just a likeable, funny guy! Love him!
@Mariah Mueller
I couldn't agree more!!! He hasn't shown himself to be an ego maniac member of 1 of the BEST bands of ALL TIMES!! I follow him in every way I can and he seems to be down to earth with morals and loves his family. We ALL f*uck up. Those that judge him and find him otherwise may need to take a good look at their own lives. And to be held to that for the rest of our life is complete and total BS!! What if we were held against for the stupid shit we did in our 20's for the rest of our lives!!??!! Much less to be in a world wide band with all of that pressure they were under!
Slash, you're one of my favorite guitarists of All time, keep Rocking!! ✌
@slash hudson Hi to you to, this is so cool to meet you!!😊🎶✌
@slash hudson Hi that's great that your opening up to us your fans boy I have alot of questions, lol. I hope you're having a lovely day, 1 question did you like playing in Boston, what is or was your favorite place you played and yes another how was it working with Michael Jackson, good video, well I won't keep you til next time my friend!!😊🎶✌
I read this man's book many years ago. It was informative, real, a great read. I agree with Slash.. WHY ARE WE STILL HAVING TO DEAL WITH RACISM?
i truly believe if you were another colour, it would be something else, it's part of a larger problem, people like to say something to upset a person, i guess if you in a white place, an arsehole would use your colour as a triggering comment, you can say i am white and don't know but i suffered dick heads all my life, criticising, talking shit, calling me gay cus i had good dress sense, anything to trigger me... it didn't though, also had people not believe i am white because i have dark skin, half my fam do, half white like paper (hence i don't even really see colour) maybe it's ancestral irish / spanish armada blood, i hope this comes across in the right way, we all brothers and sisters, what colour you skin is (or isn't) isn't a concern for me! sorry you suffered racism, i am sorry anyone gets hurt but we all do, suffering is when we hang on to it.
all isms should be gone in an ideal world, i am not sure if we are capable tbh, we all have prejudices we may not even be aware o, its too do with how the brain works and looks for patterns and files past experiences..
sorry to go on... Slash is great isn't he lol.
@@jibicusmaximus4827 we all have prejudices, but I think it has more to do with culture rather than color. That’s one thing though, natural human thoughts and behavior, but political bs is another. I can’t stand it.
Well why are you guys racist against whites?
I'm obsessed with his hair🎸of course with his guitar skills but it always comes back to those curls.
The Untold Truth Of Sting (Wrestler) My personal favorite at least one of them anyhow
The opening riff of Sweet Child 'o Mine is perfect!!
self taught, respect for that
I love this person so much! He inspired me to play guitar and it’s not just his music, but his personality also matches mines! I wish i could meet him in real life.
Um, the song 'One in a Million' wasn't ever on their album 'Appetite for Destruction'... it was on their album 'Lies'. So, _that's_ why it wasn't listed.😂😂😂
What they were talking about was the Super Deluxe reissue of Appetite for Destruction, which contains the B-Sides, EPS N More CD. That reissue does not have One in a Million on it.
@@williamoman2591 Gottcha!
People always call Axl a racist and homophobe because of One in a Million but they never listen to the 3rd verse
@@rotter7899 You got that 110% right. They NEVER actually _listen_ to anything other than their own voices, in an echo chamber.😣 Why back in the good old days... I'll just stop right here. As this _could_ get bad. LMFAO!
Awesome that you guys put the substance abuse help line number at the end of the video. Really cool.
I'm a simple man. I see slash. I love it.
He Does Such A Good Job At Playing Guitar
Shadow playing 🎸 and getting not 🚫 slash but getting trash 🗑️ ed.
Slash is so inspiring compared to the frontman of a lot of metal bands
My favorite guitarist of all time, not even a close second!
I love him. His mum is Jamaican. 🇯🇲
No. She is African American
@@andrearegan8223 no she is Mongolian
Slash is the one that inspired me to play guitar. But as a fingerstyle guitarist, but I guess that doesn't matter in the end..
I ❤ Slash
Slash is my hero and inspiration, Ive looked up to him ever since I was 10
Very nice touch at the end!
Being a long time fan of the band, and Slash in particular, I am very surprised to hear Slash is half black... his awesome hair could have told me but I never realised it... how such an unimportant fact can be such a big surprise.
I didn't know he was biracial. He always had alot of hair in his face so I never paid any attention because he is so gorgeous and talented❤💙
His mother Ola Hudson was absolutely beautiful, and very talented.
The only famous person who we can barely recognize his face
Handsome and a great 🎸 guitarist!!!
I grew up as a child with AOD... but UYI 1 & 2 has always been my go to music for life itself for the past 20+ years and I doubt it will ever change
Explains a lot about the hair, hat and shades. Know the feeling - friends always wanted me to sing, but I preferred to 'disappear' behind a guitar or bass.
Slash look at Times ....like a Man that Suffers......until Today.....I wish him Good People Around.....and as much Joy and Fun he can have. He is a Good and underrated Guy. And i mean that......it is not about the Guitar Icon Label it is about the Man he is. He is underrated and shouldn’t stand in the Shadow of Axl.....in the Mind of Axl Rose Fans. Axl and Slash can Shine independently from another!
To me this Feud from so Called g n r Fans , making Slash and Axl kind of Enemies.....Team Slash, Team Axl is a Disgrace that puts both Artists and finally the whole GNR Experience down!
The fans didn’t cause their split…years into it, one could certainly argue that the fans and certainly the media made it worse (at one point) but the fans definitely didn’t cause their parting ways in the mid 90s. No, no, Their massive egos at the time did. But time heals all wounds, and Slash got clean, which really helped. Axl was pissed for years about Slash being addicted to heroin. Axl, well Axl had an incredibly massive ego at the time (I’m not kidding, it really was unbelievably big). Recipe for disaster, folks. 😉
thank you for such a great video
Most musicians and artists are shy with tough pasts .
True
Growing up I admit one of the many reasons why I listened to G&R was mainly for Slash. I'm not kidding. Slash during his younger years .....OMG! Plus I never knew he was biracial. I always thought he was Mediterranean or something. Oh well.
Viva LA Rosa. Slash mother was a dark-skinned black woman. he looked black. Your just jealous!!!
@@peggieudengwuarzuudengwu7531 You mean he IS black. I know. But when I was younger I thought he was of different origin. No jealousy here just mis information. 😊
I love Slash, snakes/reptiles and Bowie. Great video.
Excellent!
Thanks!
I always had a crush on slash still listen to guns, roses 🌹
Phenomenal group,phenomenal guitarist
This guy is very popular in 711 i aways buy it specialy summer time.
One of my favorite artist now even Moore keep the good tunes coming
🎉🎉❤i think that's lovely, really nice words.
Nice to know Slash is sober. I've been sober for over a decade and I highly recommend it if you're in active addiction.
Best guitarist ever in my opinion, so effortlessly, naturally gifted ( probably could play guitar while asleep) legend for sure.
Best rock guitarist in history, his ability, his instantly recognisable style and name. When someone thinks rock guitarist slash is who they think of. He'll go down in history as THE rock and roll guitarist
I have seen loads of guitarists I thought were better than Slash.
I knew all of this. Love him 💕
M6 friend was in rehab with Slash and they became good friends, he sounds lovely.❤️
One in a million was never on Appetite. I just love these half-baked info vids that are just crawling with misinformation.
I HIGHLY suggest everyone who loves Guns N Roses & Slash… You need to read Slash’s Book : Slash Autobiography. It’s an amazing read. It’s the only book I bought and kept… reading it 5 times now.
One in a million was never on appetite for destruction! It was on Lie, their 2nd album. Grunge are you even bothering to research and verify your sources?
lmao keep crying
The rest of lies was on the appetite reissue. Shh now
@@seangeheran2916 but not on the original, the reissue doesn't count
I think you missed the point. It was scrapped from the final AFD listing but ended up on Lies. It was originally planned for AFD.
Its a secret track that only one in a million people can hear
I could listen to slash on that guitar all day💪🏽 🎸
He’s definitely legendary 💜
Everyone has an AXE to grind 💯💯💯💯
Saul is an amazing guitarist. If he dies, a part of me dies as well.
Just Slash alone deserves a bio movie
Had no Idea he was born in England what a legend
I love and have loved Slash since the 80s as a 9 year old listening to them while playing outside lol
My Favorite Guitar Player 🤩🎸🤘
There’s no untold truth about slash at this point.
Such a cool guy. Love his guitar playing. I think he should play with the cellist Hauser! Only people who have a creature they love can understand what the loss can be like when they pass.
YESS!!!
Slash was a great part of the group Guns and Roses blessings Puerto Rico gracias ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I still remember I met slash at the 2009 NAMM show in Anaheim he was signing autographs at the Marshall exhibit….
Born to Rock!
Hello , when there was COVID lockdown I use to play videos of Slash on my big screen TV , and bring out my electric guitar and play along like he was there jamming with me , I was alone and felt like he was there so lockdown was not that bad after all , today I’m into other things now that we are free to go outside and mingle in public , but I’m glad we’re no longer caged in like birds anymore , thank you kindly all the best my friends;)
Very good video.
Glad you liked it!
You don’t use a defibrillator to keep your heart in check. It’s used if your heart stops beating. It’s not a therapy tool or at least I wouldn’t recommend it.
I like all their music.
We love Slash. He's a living icon
I do understand about the heart problems, me too. Mine was and is not cased by drugs however, or alcohol. Mostly inherited. Flatlined twice, four way bypass. Never really thought too much about the foods I was eating. Learned a whole new way. Work in progress.
This is ok, glad its informative and not just bashing like some do to Axl and others.
world on fire 🔥
Slash is what made gnr great welcome to the jungle was my first intro to gnr at a local theme park and the intro hooked me, I miss those days when music was real and not computerized
@slash hudson hello, I'm doing ok, nice UA-cam username, lol, but yeah I ment what I said in my comment. To bad Axel ruined it all.
@slash hudson I'm sure the RL Slash is doing more important things then comment to random ppl on UA-cam comments, if your name is a homage to the RL Slash then Rock On, but I'm to old to fall for this kinda thing.
Yes axel, wanted more creatively, that's what I enjoyed the diversity and ever changing aspects of him , that is what made the music, it's the essence of individuals making it. Axel became stifled ,he had a bigger more interesting diverse vision
