I read the book to my son when it first came out. Motley Crue was the first band I ever took my daughter to see play live. I was never a huge fan, but they were of my era, and I loved their story. They've been through it all. God bless you guys!!!
I studied music in the early 80s, played full-time rock and roll though the 80s. It was an interesting time to be on the road throughout the country. We were playing in Pasedena, Texas in 1984, and this couple came up to me and my guitarist (we are still friends today) and they asked us why we weren't spitting on them (we thought that that was so strange). We still talk about that story to this day. We saw a million things and could tell you 2 million stories.
On top of the fact that literally ANYONE who knows about Motley Crue DEFINITELY knows about Ratt..that was a dumb toss-away statement this dude makes in this video. One of many....
Vince was actually driving an orange Pantera when the accident happened. Not a red Corvette as the movie portrays. But on a side note Rick Allen the drummer for Def Leppard lost his arm in a red Corvette in a New Year’s Eve accident
Mick Mars wife never usually speaks out publicly but has this to say “We are all so grateful to know Mick he is a real good friend we try and be as supportive as possible with his illness it brings us to tears to see the pain he goes through myself the children and even our grandchildren. Much better than I thought it would be. I liked the parts with them speaking into the camera. This helped the story along and connected some dots along the way. It didn't take itself too seriously which is where this movie could have gone wrong. Great acting, great pace and a thorough telling of their story especially for compressing an entire career into 1h 45m.
As someone who is under 30 and loves rock, I would love a biopic documentary on all these great rock bands, velvet revolver, Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith. Would watch it all after seeing this, makes me appreciate American culture that our parents had
The movie was Great!!! As for the things "left out" or "changed" This happens with the filimg of EVERY movie! It is about getting the story told in the amount of time you can cram a 30+ year career into a hour and a half or two hour story!! I though they hit a home run with how they pulled it off, and the casting was great!! Crue 4Ever!!!
@google spynetwork how the fuck can you compare a glam crossdressing bunch of wannabees to Ratt, Sorry but that shows your depth perception about Rock.
google spynetwork I never said anything about “glammy” in any comment. But now that YOU mentioned it, the Crue certainly liked to dress like females back in the 80s. That must make you soft. (It’s okay you’re a closet softy.)
That’s funny, I thought he looked more like Ramsey Bolton from Game Of Thrones. The guy who played Ozzy may not have looked much like Ozzy, but he fucking NAILED Ozzy’s character so who cares.
People people people and bro you’re absolutely right lol. The band themselves helped coproduce the film. If people are that picky with it, just go back and read the book. Recreate the scenes with your own mind.
Kids, you think it's hard to learn to play guitar? Imagine what Mick went through, to relearn what he had already known his whole life. You want something bad enough, you'll work through the pain. Life is short. Don't let it pass you by.
What bothers me about the whole “they didn’t mention this & that person” is they have to get permission from these people to even drop a name.... they could’ve rejected consent & that’s why it wasn’t mentioned..... it’s the same as why they didn’t add Pamela Anderson in with Tommy Lee’s relationships Take into consideration that these people could’ve just not wanted anything to do with the movie
Absolutely not. Public figures are fair game, especially if they're sticking to documented facts. The only case where this isn't true, is if they wrote something false or contentious. Then someone could try to sue them for slander. But that's also not a simple matter... They need to demonstrate not only that it was not true, but caused harm to their reputation.
Sooooo basically they rushed the movie so it wasn’t 6 hours long??? They didn’t really lie about things they just summed it up to keep it a reasonable length 😅
Most people who have seen The Dirt have read the book first!! You guys didn't even mention the Skylar timeline being wrong! They show Sharise as pregnant with her the same year as Razzle's death (Dec 84). But she was born in 1991, and passed away in 1995.
Well, I was actually there. I was 15 & playing on the strip when they released their 1st album. They did the record themselves and it became so popular, Elektra bought the rights and signed them. I was backstage at the 1st big gig at the Santa Monica Civic. It was New Year’s Eve and Nikki was managing my band. It’s true they were nervous, but it was a great show and the band skyrocketed from there. Motley was there right at the start of the Hollywood metal scene. Man, the stories I could tell, and a few that I can’t... Peace. JR
Comon just enjoy the movie and not nitpick. I've been a fan almost since the beginning and got to see gnr play with them and I'm not even pull this shit.
Not necessarily... just cause their names are on the credits doesn’t mean anything. It could’ve just meant they were brought on and interviewed for fact checking.

My brother in law shared a cell with Vince in Contra Costa county after his 1987 accident. Another friend of mine knows Vince personally. It's funny to me how much "journalists" think they know. This band struggled to be the BEST from day one. Ronnie Montrose was a good friend of mine and he knew Nick AND Tommy very well. He had the real "dirt" on MC, and the movie/editorials don't even begin to describe what this band went through to "make it" in the industry. They are the real deal...
Mick Mars is always referenced as a dark, surly, angry and strong willed character, in the film and in real life persona. But in truth Mick was shy, reserved and avoided confrontation. The rest of the band constantly bullied him, as Nikki alluded to many times in the Heroin Diaries book, and Vince did in 'Tattoos and Tequila'. Mick was a man driven to despair by his younger bandmates. Often hiding out for months on end, trying his best to avoid contact with them. I also picked up on the Slash involvement in the first overdose. But nothing was mentioned about SIxx's second overdose, and the management's decision to cancel the European Tour (a tour I had tickets to, by the way) because they were afraid that one of them (ahem... Nikki) would never come back alive. Nothing was mentioned about Matthew Tripp (what a twat) that made headline news all over the world, Nikki's relationship with Robin Crosby, Vanity, Tommy and Pamela Anderson, Vince's war with Izzy Stradlin.... So much was missed.... But I guess I may be wishing for a four hour film.
@@daveglander1 Pamela may have opted out for legal/emotional reasons. Same with the family of Robin Crosby who died of heroin. Yes, Mick didn't get a fair portrayal and hearing what he really went through pisses me off. Without his skills, they never would have amounted to anything.
Mick went through that all and it actually made him that strong willed persona. This and other tough things he had to face in his life. But even though he's dark and mysterious, he's very humble, kind and nice.
It wasn't accurately depicting the 80s rock scene. It felt more like a scene band from 2008 rather than a hard rock band from 1982. Extras in the film didn't have the 80s look at all . And a lot of characters spoke with annoying Millennial accents. Also Doc McGhee was shown as a responsible father figure to the band; this wasn't true at all, that guy was a convicted drug trafficker who was supplying Crüe and the rock scene with drugs and making huge money out of it.
venmxshadows Bruh Bohemian Rhapsody was a well made movie but got more wrong than right. It was basically a shit ton of lies with some live performances sprinkled in between.

2:52 making it seem like it's out of the ordinary for vocalists to read from lyric sheets while recording. Almost every vocalist does this in the studio at one time or another, whether they wrote the lyrics or not. Lots of the time songs are being "constructed" while in the studio--changes are made, lyrics are rearranged, and even if not the vocalist hasn't exactly sang it a ton until they start demos, and then after they hear the demo further changes are usually made...recording is an ongoing process and lyrics sheets are necessary. Accidentally replace one word with a similar word and the song can take on entirely new meaning, so it's important to get it perfect.
"Lies"...? The movie was not even 2 hrs. long... They left details out. And you even get details wrong in this video! This video should be titled "Lies Grunge told you about the Mötley Crüe movie" ;)

You can pick apart any movie about bands. Bohemian rhapsody was far from correct. But like Brian May says, it's less about being absolutely 100% correct (which is impossible to do in a 2 hr movie) but more of capturing the feel for the moment and displaying that to the audience. Making them feel like they are a part of the story. He really liked bohemian rhapsody.
Oh, and "failure to mention" names is due to legal issues. Need permission they more than likely couldn't get. Left all of Pamela Anderson out, presumably for that same reason. Can you spell 'law suit'?

To me the most significant lie was how thier name came about. Tommy and Vince both go into detail talking about this in one of thier early home videos. One of the first studio owners they encountered mentioned upon walking into the studio the first time and seeing them as a band, they both recalled he said "Well ain't this a Motley lookn crue" And they all were instantly sold on the name ...
In the book of The Dirt, Mick says he had been thinking of Mottley Croo (note the spelling) for a band name for years before hooking up with the guys. He just felt he hadn't yet been in a band that was worthy of such a cool name.
The Dirt Kicked Ass...Saw real Vince on his chopper at Rinaldi and Tampa at the 76 union gas station in porter ranch SFV. Vince is like fill your Camaro and I'm like go ahead fill your Chopper it was 1986 in the summer. Eddie and Alex lived over there
It's not surprising that Netflix left out all the names and identities including Vince Neil. It's a hell of a lot cheaper, and Nikki Sixx was probably the only one getting paid from it.

@Stealth Bonger If you watched the film then you'd know that Brandon was repeating what Mick Mars said.
i spotted characters in the sixx overdose scene that dont have any lines but do look alot like, slash and steven adler. its more like an easter egg, theres probably loads more if you look for them.
I picked out the two from Guns & what looked like Robyn Crosby as well.
I wouldn’t call these LIES, I would call these EXAGGERATIONS, to make the movie more dramatic otherwise it would be a lot less more boring or “real life.”
They need to do a movie about Guns N Roses. They are one of the most iconic bands in Rock history. Their up bringing of the band would make for such a great documentary.
They probably don't want to deal with Axl's bullshit.
Yeah totally, it will be very interesting due to axl's behaviour etc
If they were to make a movie about gnr it should be called The Jungle
Yeah 10 minutes of GNR and 1,20 minutes of Axl's bullshit
Yeah. But it would have to be a series. There’s no way you could tell the Guns N’ Roses story in one movie.
It’s so weird seeing things with Vince Neil because when I was younger my dad worked at Vince Neil ink (Vince’s tattoo shop on the strip) and I really didn’t know about his band and only really saw him as my dads boss lol

What bothers me about the whole “they didn’t mention this & that person” is they have to get permission from these people to even drop a name.... they could’ve rejected consent & that’s why it wasn’t mentioned..... it’s the same as why they didn’t add Pamela Anderson in with Tommy Lee’s relationships
Take into consideration that these people could’ve just not wanted anything to do with the movie
You don't need permission.

To me the most significant lie was how thier name came about. Tommy and Vince both go into detail talking about this in one of thier early home videos. One of the first studio owners they encountered mentioned upon walking into the studio the first time and seeing them as a band, they both recalled he said
"Well ain't this a Motley lookn crue"
