    I am 35 years old. When I was in my early 20's I stopped by your hanger and saw this bird during the restoration. Congratulations on your success and thank you for bringing back such a beautiful and historic warbird!

    I believe the buyer provided and restored their own wings. You are correct about the original WW2 tail wheels used by FlugWerk, since a cache of tail wheels units were discovered in storage. Provenance can be important for historical aircraft. There is one BMW flying with the 100% original Fw190 owned by the Flying Heritage Collection and the sound is very nice.

  • @FiveCentsPlease
    @FiveCentsPlease 12 років тому +1

    It does not have the original engine, but uses the ASh-82 engines of Russian/Chinese design that are found on the FlugWerk replica Fw190 airframes. This Fw190 appears to be a hybrid of original parts combined with one of the FlugWerk replica Fw190 kits that were sold in Germany. Only one fully original Fw190 is currently flying and it uses the original BMW engine.

    BTW I have watched it 3 times today in full length, can´t get enough of this beauty. Remarkably nice behaviour for her 2nd testflight. She does look sweet indeed as well. Well done by all involved. Many happy landings, and may the owner have a lot of fun with her.

    An interesting story from WWII. The Saturday Evening Post (or maybe LIFE) ran a full page ad for the P-38 Lightning showing a picture of the FW-190 captioned "Whose Afraid of the Old Focke-Wolf"........A tear out of this page was returned to Lockheed sometime later from one of the 8th AF fighter squadrons. Written across the face (in large letters) was the caption "I AM". It was signed by every pilot in the squadron. I don't think they used it again.

    One of 21 replicas offered as kits, using a Russian/Chinese ASh-82 engine in place of the rare BMWs. The were sold as a kit for cost-saving reasons, with buyers completing final assembly. The example above is a hybrid of original parts and kit parts.

    I meet Klaus Plaza when I made my glider-licence at Buckeburg-Airfield when I started flying: He towed me up with an Aeronca (D-EKIZ) lots of times. During this time he flew C-160 's at ETNW and owned a Boeing Stearman (Spirit Of St. Galesburg). Some years later he took me off in a P-51D owned by Scandinavian Historic Flight which was one of the best flights I ever have been in.... He is a very nice guy... :-)

Aviation history has many great constructions and types thuru time world wide. Im just for the moment very interested in RAF Hawker Typhon and Luftwaffe Henschel 129. Maybe one day such ground attackers will fly display. The future will show. Once again marveless see an Focke Wulf Fly again in peace.Thanks for the word

    This one is also a FlugWerk, but I believed it incorporated original WW2 wings. I haven't heard much comparison between FlugWerk examples although since they are built from kits, the flying quality is probably related to the quality of final assembly.

    Great video of what appears to be an excellent restoration of one of the world's most historic warplanes. I'm sure Kurt Tank would have been pleased.

    just pointing out something here about the "b4" symbol. from the fw190-A3 to A9 variants they all used bmw801D engines which required C3 fuel. so imo it would be more accurate to say "C3" on the side.

    Actually the 190 & 109 did face Corsairs,Hellcats, and Wildcats. The Royal Navy flew all three fighters. If the Bearcat did encounter the Fw 190A,F or G I would put money on the Bear. But the Dora or a Ta-152, that might be a different story. The Bear does still hold a few climb records. It is true though, the Bear was modeled after the Fw.

    butcherbird vs bearcat - which would win?

    • @RiotBadger
      @RiotBadger 10 років тому

      Well if you mean this aircraft, the 190A-8 - the Bearcat without doubt.
      If you mean the best example of the 190, the 190D, it really depends on the altitude, above ~35k the 190 comes out on top, below that the Bearcat wins.

    • @SupernalOne
      @SupernalOne 10 років тому

      RiotBadger Thx - oh, right, the 190 design specs probably included shooting down B-17s at altitude, not defending flattops from kamikazes

      Impossible to answer. Many variables come into play. Also you have to remember German planes never faced US Navy planes. Had they faced them, Germans would have built a place to face it.
      An example of this is the Spitfire Mk IX which was indeed built to face the Fw 190 that was slaughtering the Spitfire Mk V variant until then.

    This should not be called a resto but the Flugwerk-Kit built to airworthyness. Give it an original BMW 801 and restore it to flight condition then you can call it a resto. An original serial number and Markings do not turn it into a Focke-Wulf.
