That's right, they were not specifically made for that role, but were able to manage it. The 190 had the quickest role-rate of any WW2 fighter and packed a punch, great climb rate but tended to pull to the right in a power-dive. Great discussing this with you.
All your comments are invalid, they only perform flybys and some aerobatic, with good reason these aircraft’s are all flying museum’s they can’t afford to loose this planes there aren’t to many of them, which are still in flying conditions left around the world.
This aircraft was assembled for Rudy Frasca by Matt Nightingale. It is an extremely well built aircraft with great attention to detail. Even the paint shades are matched to official records. We will be filming this great bird in flight again this weekend for the Thermal Airshow.
It awesome to see "What the Focke Wulf" at Reno in 2010. Given it has parts from original factory, the airframe carries a Focke Wulf serial number. Sounds beautiful with the R2800 in it and is a credit to the guys who put it together. Be great to see it fly in formation with the Mosquito FB26 KA114 now flying in NZ, when they figure how to get it to the US, it will be neat to see a range of different warbirds in the air.
The Fw was purpose built around a radial, Kurt Tank loved radial engines due to the reliability. The Fw was delayed due to cooling problems,{cockpit} once they put a fan behind the prop and slightly altered the cowling, a killing machine was born. The Spit MkV was built to counter the Fw. The Fw was given the name "Butcher bird" by the Germans well before it entered frontline service. The A/C has the fastest roll rate of any WWII fighter. The Grumman Bearcat was modeled after the Fw. The reason for the Dora and later the TA-152 the Germans believed the B-29 was coming to Europe and they needed a high altitude fighter, but once they put the jumo into the Fw a fighter was born that the Luftwaffe couldn't get enough of. Adolf Galland ordered only 190D's and 262's to remain in fighter production. Fortunately Germanys fate was already sealed. Beautiful A/C, my favorite Axis fighter. The P-47 is my favorite above all.
bob dyer From what I've read, the choice of radial engine for the 190 was more to do with the fact that all of Germany's inline style engines were reserved for production of 109's and similar aircraft, and the only option remaining was the radial. (Of course, as we know, the radial worked just fine for the 190 A series :P)
When it came to building the later version{ high altitude intercepter} D's and TA's you are correct, not enough DB's too go around. That is why the "Jumo" power plant was selected. But the earlier Fw's were purpose built around the BMW 801.
+bob dyer Finally someone besides me who thinks the P47 rocked the house' all this crap about the mustang being the war winner is all BS' by the time that overrated plane came on the scene germany's luftwaffe was a shadow of it's former self .I absolutely love the thunderbolt' big' fast and armed with 8 50's .It brought more pilots home shot to hell than any other aircraft' get a hit in the radiator of a mustang and you're a POW.
Lisa, What thousands of people don't realize, the 51 had a structure problem. The way the A/C is built, the fuselage bolted to the wings, instead of the wings built with the fuselage, the 51 could not handle storms. The 47 was the first U.S. fighter over Berlin why? Because the 51 group was vexed due to a large storm front they could not get around. In the ETO 51 squadrons had a category for A/C loss that the 47 squadrons did NOT have "structure failure" That's how Col. Zemke became a POW he flew into a storm, and the wings came off his 51. That fact is in his war time bio he wrote. In the Pacific, due to the intense storm fronts, 51's were guided to rendezvous points by B-29's to join with the bomber groups for escort duties. That is written in "Whirlwind" by Barrett Tillman. If you read "The men who killed the Luftwaffe" by Jay Stout the truth is told about the 47's value. Gen. Kempner, {Gen. of fighters in the ETO}stated the 47 "broke the back of the Luftwaffe". The fact is, 51 "groupies" are just jealous that in the list of WWII aces{ Army, Navy, Marines} no 51 pilots are in the top five. PLUS, nearly all of 51 pilots who eventually became aces got their first kills in a 47. The only U.S. fighter that shot down more enemy A/C than the 47 is the Hellcat, the true "Ace maker" and menace of the Pacific.{which also was powered by the R-2800}
Fantastic video with appropriate music, thank you very much! The Fw-190 just looks right, like it was meant to be in the air, it evens looks like it's flying when on the ground..
That was swift :) Imagine what it would be like trying to hit an enemy fighter from there... Well, it's great to see these magnificent planes fly together. All the best and thank you for the video :)
+florianweiss007 I have read many books from american pilots who flew the 190 and all said it was a amazing plane ' could out roll anything and was very comparable to the best allied planes' pilot experience was what it came down to.
+Lisa Walz well outroll maybe, but planes like the fw190 A/D series were still not as maneuverable as the bf109 and spitfire, the bf109 was the lightest plane at the end of the war, while being at the top, because of the good performance cuz of its high hp engine
The Corsair had a faster rate of roll than the FW190. In 1944 the Navy tested it against every available allied and axis aircraft in order to determine future carrier craft procurement and still was not able to find any aircraft that would outperform the Corsair overall.
You might be wondering why you have so many views all of a sudden in the past few months, well, my partner was watching this video with our 1 year old and it put him straight to sleep, so now before every nap or bedtime we play this to him.
I got IL-2 back in 2007. Good stuff, nice tracer-fire affects. But, it seemed that damaged enemy aircraft carried on performing as though they were intact. A few other things like that annoyed. Best game ever was European Air War - great balance between graphics and numbers in the air, you could have some fantastic scraps. Also loved Talnsoft's 12 O'clock High - great strategy game, can't find it on W7 platform though, pity.
What a plane! I'd like to just ask 2 questions: 1) Is this the Fw 190 A-8 model? 2) Is the video shot from the rear gunner post in a B-25 Mitchell? Cause it looks like it is ;) Thank you.
Lisa Walz Absolutely Lisa! In the hands of a competent, pilot, the 190 was hard to beat. Fortunately for the allies, during the later stages of WWII, the few experienced Luftwaffe pilots that were left, were faced with overwhelming numbers of very good allied aircraft being flown by very capable pilots.
@@flyinhawaiian5848 Indeed 95%of all german fighter pilots, died trough the war. But their spirit, never broke, to the very end. Outnumberd 5:1, 6:1, or 8:1, they fly. The Spitfire was also one of of those fast climbing fighters. You need to consider the fact that not all of them were equally powered. Bf-109 and Spitfire models powered by high altitude engines are the ones to consider; not the bulk of Me-109s and Spitfires, which were designed for combat at lower altitudes.
Take the enemy allways from the front. Use your incredible 20mm cannons, fire firtst, hit the enemy and pass him at high speed. Same strategy against bombers. Hit them hard and escape the gunners. Take a look around and decide your next move. Kill the escorts first, or is time enough, for the first attack from 6 o'clock on the big ones. This strategy , earns you the Knights Cross with oak leaves and swords. And of course the rank of a lt. colonel...

How on earth did the pilots resist starting a mock dog fight???
There's a long answer to that question. The short answer is, for safety reasons.
That would've been amazing.

wasn't really a dogfighter of the day, great at hit and run attacks in a straight-line but couldn't turn.
And of course the rank of a lt. colonel...

Do we really need the swastika on this aircraft? Isn't the Iron Cross enough authenticity?
Russ G 1. yes 2. no
A swastika on a WWII plane is part of the heritage. A swastika painted nowadays on buildings. is wrong.
