Is it Time?! The ground is SLOWLY warming up and the race is on to get the John Deere 2230 Field Digger/Cultivator ready for the field. Sam came out and we replaced all the digger sweeps and half of them are the all new hardened sweeps with added carbide.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

do you have simply safe wireless cameras, been looking to get it but one of the spots i want to cover would be a pain to pull power to in the yard
Yeah we got snow to in Indiana
porch pirates are stealing these doorbell cameras nowadays, because they don't want to get caught.
Make sur John Deere combines in background
Love your show, but the plugs for the crap that you sponsor is getting old. Having them in the description is good enough.
We need another farm machinery tour, with all the shuffled machines.
Do it please
Yea
Please do another tour
Agreed
Definitely. I’m new and would love to understand all the different intents for the different tractors
Isla wondering what happened to her toy hammer 🤣🤣
I’m not a farmer, but I’m amazed at the engineering that’s behind all these implements. Can’t even fathom the money that is tied up into just the annual service of these things either. Fun to watch for sure.
makes me wonder if all that tech is really worthwhile.................... but i have been watching a LOT of horse-drawn farming and logging....................
It is incredible the work that goes into things we use everyday. I do new product development and let me tell you there’s a lot of thought and consideration that goes into all of it. We are on the 4th iteration of the current product I’m helping develop.
Take the "digger" and the tractor for examples.
The digger really does not require much maintenance at all. If anything, all Zach has to do is check the air in the tires, make sure the points aren't broken or missing, and make sure the basket roller isn't tangled up with baling twine or otherwise broken somehow. Considering the fact Zach has his own repair shop and tools, he only has to really spend money for the parts to replace any broken or missing points. So his expenditure there is less than 100 dollars.
But the tractor requires software updates, oil changes, and any other repairs if something goes really wrong with it mechanically. John Deere doesn't really "like" farmers repairing anything computerized .. i.e. everything ... forcing the farmer to go to the dealership, have to pay for service, parts, and labor .. which can run into the tens of thousands when all is said and done.
@@jayd5541 you must not run John Deere implements haha it’s all expensive and much more than 100 dollars. I do how ever completely agree with the tractor part
Sometimes you have to take a risk. Go to the bank and take a loan. Then go to your local auction. And get what you need. You can get some pretty good deals there.
Can't wait to see what's going on with the bin set up with the cranes in the background
Probably the install for the American flag pole he’s been teasing for a couple years.
@@brianfletcher7942
Could be but I have seen it in the last two videos. Wouldn't think it would take to long to put up a flag pole
I seen in one of the more recent vids that he had one of the down pipes on the ground, could be fixin on the leg
Always great to see Mrs. Millennial even if only for a short moment. Behind every good farmer there's a great spouse looking after the fort.
It’s officially planting time when the neighbors start going
D?
When your neighbours get started, you driwe out at the field an get stuck in the mud.. Only thinking maybe check your own fields before starting, 😂🇧🇻🚜
Him: haha I’m so funny
Me: actually laughing
Seamen...t
I was waiting for the “are you ok” after the toy hammer broke! Lol 👍🏻
Your dad heard that your knees hurt, so he jumped in to show off his new one :D
I’d think it would be cool if you did a video talking about the progression of machinery on the farm, i.e. what was the first combine, what was the first tractor etc. That sounds cool to me.
I'm always amazed at how deep Anna's voice is!🤣
Love your videos!
Every time you ask if the dog wants to ride in the tractor, she just tilts her head like "can i?"
Hello Millennial Farmer I am actually starting a farm I am growing sweet corn in central Minnesota I half to thank you for inspiring me to start farming I mean you don't see an 11 year old starting a farm all that often so thank you.
Yes! Sam with The Office reference - Parkour!
Good to see your dad getting around better.
Started planting about a week ago here in southern MN. Already have a video out and another on the way!
Try putting down some filter fabric on your driveway. It really makes a difference keeping the mud down!
He's to cheap to do that lol
Zach: *puts in earplugs to not hear pounding metal*
Me: *puts earphones in so i can...hear the sound of pounding metal*
You know - them Welker boys have already started planting.
Oh shoot
It depends upon when the crop insurance is active. Every place is different.
I'll do my best to catch up!!
The kids hammer bit was comedy gold!!! Having that kind of fun while working makes it less like work and so much more enjoyable.
I could sit and watch you work All day.
"Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals & happiness."
The farmer has to be an optimist or he wouldn't still be a farmer.
A good farmer is nothing more nor less than a handy man with a sense of humus.
In most cases there is no wife with you. So all the beer is for you
As someone who's only 5'9 this video made me laugh!
Yep, farming, snowmobiles, and race cars did my ears in as well. Ringing never goes away.
I agree, in my childhood it was two bolts for each shear (Aussie terminology?) and no impacts for us - a std ring spanner. My back still has scars from slipping on a half worn nut and falling on the next shank. Such fun!!
I’m glad I put a new set of shovels on when I put mine away last May !😂 Just sayin
Zach.....get yourself some knee pads! I found your channel while “slightly” immobilized recovering from knee replacement surgery this winter. I spent too much of my career working and kneeling on concrete. A shout out to your dad. I’m a couple months behind on the recovery process. He can tell you all ya need to know.
Growing up in the semi-arid Texas Panhandle we used a lot of sweeps -- 10-12" bolt-ons usually, sometimes as large as 24". Also used a lot of "big" sweeps -- 42"-60" that we ran 8-10" deep. We always put the Nickle -carbide "hardfacing" on them so they would last more than a season in the sandy loam we had. We also hardfaced the discs we used on our John Deere 360 32' double offset. Those discs would get so sharp they'd cut a 2"x4" into little pieces if you ran over one.
Love the Stunt Man Job....Planting Season....
We honestly need hour long videos. I just waited all day to see this video. And it felt like it was five minutes. However very happy with the content! Will you be doing more "between the rows" videos?
The time is getting close planting is near.
We used to hand weld extra materials onto our "duck feet" each winter to make them last longer in the spring. Now they come premade like that. Millennials got it so easy.
Man, watching you crawl around there on the ce-ment really makes me appreciate how dedicated you are to this whole acting thing!
The hammer had me in tear!!! And it’s most likely the culprit for your ringing ears 😁
Anna says she doesn't mind hard work. She could sit and watch it for hours...
We going to plant our first corn tomorrow. If it doesn't rain. I hope it stays nice so we can get going. Those knock on sweeps sure are nice. I don't miss all the nuts & bolts.
Thanks for the video on what is happening with you. The field digger or whatever the proper name is has a unique way of attaching the sweeps. Never saw that clip device before. Lot better than having to do all the bolts and nuts. Neat. You just about have the digger ready to go for the field. I like the idea of putting rock along the outside walls of the shop. Holds the dirt and everything else in place and water will not stand along the wall. Good going on that. Lots of odds and ends to do around the farm. If you can level the drive way and no holes that is great. We always had water holes in the drive and we hated that. Spring time for you. About all for now. Thanks to Sam for helping. Thanks to Becky for editing the video. Thanks for the visit Zach. Enjoyed the time. Take care and be safe. Iowa farm boy from years ago
Hit button too soon. Iowa farm boy from years ago.
New machine tour please, also the stunt man gag should continue because it is hilarious good work man also Becky , y’all are awesome
Come one now Zack quite playing with your pins 😂😂
It is Tillage Man Sam! The best special guest ever!!!!
Nice for Dad to show up when the job is already done! I seem to have the same experiences.
"it's nice that the implement has a bigger hole so you can put in the you know... pin." that's what she said LOL
Saw your speech at the ffa convention
Genuine laughter at 17:07 is the best content on this channel
I giggled for 2 minutes lol
We used slag stone from the steel mill in Fairless Hills Pennsylvania. My Dads cousin used to haul it with his 4300 transstar and Parker dump trailer. Then I had to put in down the lane with a contractors wheelbarrow,a shovel and rake. 1/4 mile long ‼️
There’s been a few holes I wish I had a shim for my pin
You can always tie a board to your ass to stop you falling in.
Crawling around on concrete without kneepads is how you mess up your knees, meniscus tears. Then you get knee replacements. No fun in there anywhere. 😢
we have been using those poly discs for probably 3 years now, its amazing how much they save the iron
We put carbide tipped sweeps on our Bourgault seeder and I can tell you they work swell. 👍🏼
You need to run that camera over with a tractor. Your older camera worked better focusing.
some times take it off auto focus but there again some cameras you cant.. pays your money.
It didn't take long for Zach to lose his safety glasses.
It’s always good to see tillage man Sam!
For jobs like that I am a fan of sitting on the creeper. Saves on knees and jeans both.
Is toodles another way of saying "i love you" to your wife when the camera is on? Great video!
My sister in law says it to me 🤷♂️
@@littlesteve855 🎵 sweet home Alabama 🎵 😂
It's just a hip way of saying "goodbye for now my love". All the kids are saying it!
@@MillennialFarmer im 36 🤷♂️
Sam really said "Parkour" in reference to "The Office" 🤣🤣
I hope Tillageman Sam took notes to add an addendum to the installation instructions to install the sweeps till the click and then verify with 2-3 squeaks from the industry standard Squeak Hammer
Knuckleheads...I love it. God Bless laughter, especially when it is you laughing at you.
“i went over the torque spec” 😂😂
You owe Ila a new hammer , Or she'll get angry I don't think you want to see her Angry! LOL
Raising the wings to replace the teeth on them saves the knees big time. Especially on a digger that size.
Your farming is top-notch Fort Knox Kentucky wave and a hand at you booyah
You know your channel is getting popular when you can afford your own stunt man for Videos.
aww i think that is his actor friend who doubles as his stunt man--ha!!! every time he talks about the actor/stunt man i darn near fall off my chair laughing, but i think him breaking that toy hammer was even better.
We are planting here in Mount Joy Pennsylvania today. A little chilly but nice day
good to see you have a scrap bin like mine - beer money!!!
Come on Zach. Work isn’t supposed to be that much fun. But we sure love it. Keep on enjoying life. And we will keep watching and liking.
It's so great to see other farms taking such better measures to deal with soil health. It wasn't that long ago the moldboard plow was all anyone knew, going all the way back to the days of farming with horses, ONE row at a time. We're doing better!
April 21-22 Western new york, we got 6-8 inches over night on the 21st and its still snowing and blowing now. A bit of lake effect too because the lakes aren't frozen anymore. Its not officially spring until we get a late April snow.
As a son of a nearly deaf farm Dad and Uncle....it's nice to see you were hearing protection. Impact wrenches seem really hard on the ears also.....
Good to see Nathan’s knees are healed up!
Sorry to hear about your tinnitus, I also suffer from it, weapon fire in heavy foliage combined with years of farming and machining. What you call sweeps we used to call shovels. Now I feel vintage like the tractors I used to run. Hope your weather is conducive to spring planting.
U make my day I watch ure vids it reminds me of my father who was a farmer who sadly passed
Enjoy video and all John Deere equipments! 😘🚜😀 Mike from Missouri
Build yourself a wide tire ramp to raise up your implements in the shop to give more headroom underneath to work. We used to have a few Chisholm Ryder bean pickers and we made 2 long I beam ramps you drove the tractor onto the ramps 16" high to work on the belly belt / conveying unit.👌👍
Oh I forgot you guys got that big 4wd articulated tractler. Can't wait to see thay one in action. It'll be your favorite in no time!
You are my favourite farmer on youtube thanks for the best farm videos
When we got our 8410T JD track tractor was how ROUGH they ride on the road and dirt roads! They’re a dream in the field though! 👍🏼
OMG a Steiger, the real green tractor. Man seeing that tractor took me back 35 years in a heart beat...
Love Anna the Star! She makes the channel!
Hope the weather is good for planting 🌞🌱🌾
Super excited for planting
I have Tinnitus also. From driving tractors with no cab, straight exhaust pipes, and probably driving old trucks next to the potato harvester. Plus loud music didn’t help either.
I use a supplement which seems to help, its called “Silence”.
The "Farmer-Boy Toystore"...so many implements, so little time!
I've always called that a spring-tooth chisel. Those clips are the berries! Wish we had those 30 years ago!
We had a 3 bottom plow, 2 row corn planter , tandem disc, chisel plow , a duck foot, a one way, a drag, a 4 row corn cultivator on a GP tricycle front end popping Johnny, that pulled this equipment. Also a 10-foot sickle mower, a bunch rake, and a farmhand Stacker. Also a Massey Harris 27 combine. Forgot the scraper for digging dugouts and stock dams.
Great Vlog, Getting ready for planting, Thanks for sharing.
Hello from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. Great show’s thanks for sharing with us.
Hey Zach it’s great to see that you were using some protection for once, the digger seems to be in a awesome shape now!
Your videos are the best part of my week
God bless your season and keep you and your family safe
I am very exited for this year's planting season. I'm sure you are too. We just started putting wheat in the ground here.
That’s hilarious when you blew the whistle it made my speaker on my phone blow air at my face😂
7:58, PPE, good man, gloves and steel toes and ur all set!
Glad to see you wearing ear plugs. Last video or two, you were using that impact gun. The sound was clipping (distorting) the mic on your camera. I almost said something out of concern for your hearing, but didn't want to sound preachy. I too have tinnitus, music and loud cars were my problem. Ear protection is a must if we want to keep hearing our family. Thanks!
Nice to see how helpful Anna is.
Crushed concrete works great. I'm glad you made a video of grating your driveway and yard. I really enjoyed it.
you can get work trousers with big pockets on the knees to put foam pads in, standard equipment at the garage I work at :D
Awesome video zach, man nathan looks like hes lost some weight, he looks like he picked up some muscle, good to see him getting around alot better now, his walking around good now, that's good, waiting for the famous words of zach johnson, ITS GO TIME!! 💪🇺🇲
" It get gets different in the middle" , just make sure you have the hardened sweeps following any wheel or tracked tracks
I like seeing that go together. Sam did a great job too. Sure wish we could see some more driveway grading : )
My kids used to have one of those hammers! Looks like Anna is ready for you to start planting too!
Zack you’re great at what you do. You’ve made this into a big business and I understand that takes a lot of work. I know how this works but I don’t have the patience to do what you do. But the advantages are huge. Good for you.
