Growing echeveria from seeds - 2 months in!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 гру 2018
- Two months since sowing the first batch. The second batch is 2.5 weeks in.
More and more of the seedlings in the first batch are getting their second set of leaves, and they are growing bigger.
What surprised me though is that my second batch, composed mostly of hand-pollinated seeds, is giving me a better yield!
This is a welcome surprise!

Awesome music thanks to EpidemicSound
I tend to post a lot of non-video stuff on Facebook. - Навчання та стиль
I hope they all grow, you never know what youre gonna get
Oh yeah, especially since even sister seedlings can vary wildly with their looks! I am pretty excited to see them grow!
Chuck this is such a long waiting process but, it must be so rewarding once you successfully grow a mature plant. Thanks for sharing your seeding journey with us ☺️👍.
Haha yeah no kidding on the long waiting part!
Awesome! I look forward to more updates!
The seedlings were super cute!! I hope they are big beautiful plants now!
Hi, thanks for the update. I look forward to your updates to see the progress.
i love succulents and i love your amazing ideas...
now, i am learning too.
Wait! 🤔 The channel says "Cerriscapades" but, the guy (who looks exactly like Chuck) isn't wearing the "uniform". Is this a prank video??! (just kidding!) Great to see your hybridization progress!!! 😀 SOOO happy for you!!👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻 Maybe we'll see your name posted on the ICN website in a few years...
I'd like to think of it as the "Let's Plant" and "Cerriscapedia" shirt haha!
Thanks for the support as always Frank! Your seed germination technique is definitely working for me!
mine germinated succulent (5 weeks old) looks exactly like yours but no plump leaves. i was wondering why it took sooo long to grow. guess its normal, phew.
Hello, i want to ask if you still need to cover the plant?
What kind of soil did you use sir?
hy do you sell lithops and succulent seeds .....? I am from Indonesia and want to buy it in large quantities
Now my echeveria has grown what do I have to do now? theyre probably 2 weeks should I remove the cover?
good job ! Hope they will grow fast!
I really hope so too!
The amount of time and wait you invested in this video👍. What’s the name of the seeds?
Hi there. The hybrids I made are the following:
1. E. agavoides x E. 'Bella Rouge'
2. E. 'Bella Rouge' x E. agavoides 'Romeo'
3. E. colorata f. colorata x E. 'Orion'
4. xPachyveria 'Bea' x E. 'Lola'
5. E. 'Mira' x E. 'Blue Bird'
I think there was at least one seedling from each pair. Hope they all survive!
Hi Chuck, good work on the germinations. Quick question - how sure are you that your “hybrids” are truly progeny of a successful crossing between two separate plants given that you did not emasculate the male anthers from the flowers of the female parent prior to performing the crossing? Without performing emasculation of the anthers, there is a chance that the plant could be self-pollinated. And if so, it could mean that some of your “hybrid” progeny are in fact actually self-pollinated progeny from the pollen of the female plant itself... in which case then it could be quite fun to figure out which progeny is a hybrid and which progeny is a “selfed” plant hahaha
Haha see how much of a novice I am at this! 😂
I was assuming they were self-sterile, but hey, at least I have another thing to add for my 4th attempt when I get to it!
This is my 3rd attempt, the first two failed for different reasons. First was because the seeds were not viable. I harvested them too late and they were too dry. Grass grew instead. The 2nd attempt germinated some echeveria seedlings but they dried out because I neglected them. In my defense, my daughter was newly born so I didn't have the time to look after the seedlings.
Anyway thanks for the pointers, will definitely keep that in mind in my next iteration!
Cerriscapades: from my readings, it would appear that most echeveria species and hybrids are self-incompatible to varying degrees so it would be hard to know for sure whether the progeny are all true hybrids or a mixture of true hybrids with some “selfed” progeny mixed in. It would be cool to do an experiment where you bag the immature flower stalks of multiple plants so that any viable seed formed must be generated from self-pollination and compare the seed viability of those against plants that you perform crosses on (where you must first emasculate the immature anthers so that no self-pollination is possible and bag the flower stalk during the flower maturation process so that no other contaminating pollen is introduced to the embryo prior to you performing the cross with a pollen from a donor plant of your choice). Would be hard work though... hahaha btw Chuck, you would know me as theaccidentaldweeb on Instagram 😆
I like this idea. I wilk definitely work on this next flowering season! I will call this the Kelvin experiment, or maybe some sort of a nod to your instagram name haha!
😂🤣
Are there updates on these seeds? 🤩🤩🤩 Would love to see how they grown or look like
wow they llok nice and they do look cute when they that tiny ... i dont think i have the patience to wait thought all that ... and the heat would roost them quickly ,.... PLEASE SEND RAIN TO AFRICA
You guys hang on in there!
How many seeds can you put in 1 cell?
With echeveria, it's hard to give a count. The seeds are so tiny, they're like sand. I just make sure to try and spread them enough. I've had maybe 20-25 sprout in a cell, so I'm assuming the actual number of seeds is much higher than that.
Wow 2 months?! 😣 plants grow too slooowww!!
