Hard disagree on the flat bench. You will upgrade to an adjustable one in no time. Ideally one that can also do decline. For me it's in order of importance: Best rack you can fit/afford Good bar Enough weight Adjustable bench Attachments for the rack (pulldowns, dips, pins etc) Adjustable dumbbells Specialty bars Back extension/GHR
For decline you can prop the flat bench on some plates. You can do the same for the front and get bit of an incline angle. Thank you John for this trick.
Just didn’t make sense for my training or my budget at the time. I did come back and get the 0/90 yet still use my flat bench. I keep the 0/90 by my DB’s and extra rack. I’d still get the flat if I started all over. No wrong answers here just good conversations, thanks for the view and comment.
I think it really REALLY depends on your goals. If you’re doing mostly strength training, genera fitness and health, or are limited on price, a flat bench is ideal as hell. Shit I have an adjustable bench but man I miss my old flat bench. So I think it’s fair to say a flat bench is a safe bet for the gen pop
The number one thing I look forward to in my near future is the financial freedom to buy a small home gym. Its EliteFTS garage line all the way for me the second I get done with school.
Essential home gym in my opinion -rack with pull up bar -bar and weights -adjustable bench -sled/prowler -bands -landmine -gymnastic rings -specifically bars
I couldn’t fit a full size rack in my basement so I bought a door way pull-up bar that works great and instead of a landline I just use a cut up tennis ball on my barbell. I’d love to eventually get a full rack once I have enough space though. I can’t even do standing OHP because my ceiling is too low.
I bought the PCD from y'all and it's been amazing. Dollar for dollar it would have made sense to go for a lat pulldown first, but I've always had a lot more trouble building the posterior chain than any sort of upper body work, so it made sense for me. Especially considering my basement isn't tall enough for a pulldown lol. The pendulum actually works pretty decent as a makeshift low row. I love using it for overhead tricep extensions and the like
In 2009 I bought a collegiate rack with 0/90 bench and a GHR from you guys. They have been moved 5x and been in a barn/garage the entire time. I’m still using them all. The leather on the bench and GHR doesn’t even have a rip in them. They still look awesome and everything still works perfectly. I have thought about buying a new rack since mine is old and none of the new attachments work on my 2x2 rack…but with a drill and some ingenuity I have adapted everything and it’s awesome. It always pays to buy good stuff because it will last longer than you will lift.
A good rack with pull-up bar, a good bar, and enough weight are important. Bands can simulate a lot of cable work. Also some programming. You can spend all the shekels you want on gear but if you don't have a plan for training you will not get far.
I'm sure you could get around having to bolt down by adding plate storage all around the structure, as well as adding in a some sort of metal reinforced floor that latches onto the base, should allow band work, but even this isn't necessary as all you'd need for banded deadlifts is a solid platform with band latches. It wouldn't need to hook up to the cage.
Getting a collegiate rack off you guys and a spud inc pulley system. I’ve already got a comp bench, bow flex adjustable dumbbells, elitefts bands, gymnastics rings, and a dip station. But the main thing I’m really looking forward to getting is a Elitefts power bar and more plates. I’ve got 425 lbs of weights now but mostly in 35’s and 25’s. Only got 4 45’s and it just looks silly deadlifting with a bunch of little plates lmao. Craigslist is where I got all my plates, plate prices right now are ridiculous but you can find plenty of used ones on craigslist and FB market place.
Surprised no mention of a Prowler. I've seen that thing kick the crap out of so many people, that it's a must have when I get around to building my home gym.
@@eliteftsofficial, yeah that's fair. I was picturing a garage gym or backyard shed where the prowler could be used outside the structure. Run it on the grass or even up and down the driveway/street.

@@eliteftsofficial I've really got to say, in the UK market there is so much Chinese made equipment, some low quality, some not, but that sort of kit is always going to be cheaper than the best quality equipment that is either made here, or in other countries, usually where the company is based. When you look at it that way I like that Elitefts in the UK are either bringing in the US made equipment like their bars, which are really price competitive compared with other non-chinese options like Eleiko/Rogue etc, or they are having the equipment manufactured here so that the quality can be maintained and supporting local craftsmanship. I've seen the Garage line rack in the metal and it's a serious bit of kit and I think really well priced against comparable equipment that's available here, unless you want some cheap, tinny, imported tat, which might be a bit cheaper. I'll be investing in one as soon as I can.
I get what elitefts is doing by putting out these vids and I respect it. I support them and have bought some stuff from them. However the number 1 barrier from being competitive in the home gym market is price, simple. They're versatile and have kick ass equipment, but the first thing any home gym owner is going to look is price. I own a rep pr-4000. Why can certain companies put such a good price point for a 3x3 11 gauge steel with 5/8" hardware, but others can not? All these companies were smaller at some point. They increase their prices over time. It sucks, but that's part of business.
I believe Elitefts has their equipment made in America, Rep is an import company. Rep has their products made in China with lower quality materials less quality control and a cheaper finish, not to mention the cost of labor. Elitefts is more expensive but you're paying for quality craftsmanship and supporting American workers (something not everyone cares about however I do).
The reason for the price difference is where the material and labor is sourced, rep is Chinese... It's real tough for USA sourced labor and material to compete with that without tariffs...
This is the biggest bunch of crap. You seem to imply that if you are going to start a home gym at all, then you NEED to blow about $5,000 or, "You're just wasting your time."
