    ❤️ I live in Alabama, and during the pandemic my husband decided to set up a rack and a bench on our teeny tiny patio so that he could lift when he couldn't go to the gym. He would go out there and lift when it was 30° and he would go out there and lift and it was 100°.

      Love that for him, and fair play, because I know I wouldn't do it in either of those temperatures😂

    After working with a home gym for 3 years, I can't imagine having to use a public gym again. I think everyone should try to create their own fitness center in their living space; what ever is in their means

    This is a great set-up to have even if you want to still go to a public gym a few days a week. Holidays and when you are short on time.

    I live in a small asian city apartment and I built a home gym in a 7x7ft room. I cannot put a standard length barbell so i bought the rogue stump bar which is a shorty version Ohio power bar. It has a shorter sleeve. And i use the calibrated thin plate for shorter sleeve so it allows me to load up to 600 pounds which is more than enough for me.

    I have a rack very similar like the one used in the SS gyms (one solid welded piece), a bar, a tree with 500 pounds of weights, and an air bike plus my home office in a 10' X 10' area. When I work out, I just take the office chair and bike out to the hallway. Where there is a will, there is a way.

    people really complain about a little rust!? it’s a hunk of iron; it’s only purpose is to weigh what it’s supposed to weigh, be round, and fit on a barbell!

    • @crzyprplmnky
      @crzyprplmnky 3 місяці тому +1

      Well if it rusts, that's iron oxide, meaning oxygen atoms are being added to your plates increasing the weight and if you remove that rust you will DECREASE the weight.
      Either way you'll never make gains 😢

    My home Gym is only 8' wide... I have a rack and make it work using a 6' internal bar... You can make any space work

    My home gym is 9 feet wide and 7 feet deep. A little constrained on the ends, and loading 45's on the bar for squats isn't optimum, but it's all mine, and the monthly dues of $0 are wonderful. My micro plates hang on screws. I built a couple of wood plate racks for the 10's, 5's and 2 1/2's, and all of the heavier plates bear on the floor, leaning into the wall. The sled is in the garage, and I push and pull it on the driveway.

      Agreed. The width is a little tight. I like the idea of hanging the change plates on the wall, and may move some tools to make space for that.

    I love in a small one bedroom apartment. I got a bench, two pairs of dumbbell bars, an ez bar, weights, dip bar, pull up bar and that's about all I need at the moment.

    If you live in an area with no tremors & seismic activity, I guess this setup is fine. But living in Bakersfield, the thought of working out right next to shelves & walls packed with tools would be spooky.

    Not a wet rag for rust. An oily rag.
    If badly rusted, a little phosphoric acid, typically sold as descaler.

    The tongue in cheek humor against that one company that makes the R3 rack always cracks me up 😂
    Both you and massenomics have sold me on strength co as a company heavy. Wish you great success.

    Nice setup and really nice video to show what's possible in a small space! Personally I'd just prefer not to have this loose plate storage above head height. So I'd rather place the peg and the change plates elsewhere on the rack.

    This is too cool! Can I ask a question regarding Starting Strength?
    Specifically:
    I play basketball, and I want to start weight training, and the simplicity of Starting Strength really appeals too me. However, I don't like the fact that it demands squats 3x a week. Part of it is because I already have naturally large legs, but mostly it is because I feel like I won't be able to play my best in practice. If I do squats 2 times a week and on the 3rd day do some unilateral leg exercises, would that be a problem?

    • @thestrengthco
      @thestrengthco  3 місяці тому

      I would just squat 3x a week

    • @chadd980
      @chadd980 3 місяці тому

      Try it and see if it affects you. If it does maybe just reduce the volume of squats a bit on one of those days.

    Equipment needs are driven by a trainees goal. For those interested in health, fitness, and longevity that can be gotten w/out any equipment.

    Idk what I expected from an American...
    Thats not small. A 1 car garage where I am will cost you at least 100k. Everyone can make a small gym in a one car garage dude... 😂
