Men like Steve Reeves are the ones I look up to and learn from. Trying to learn from the modern guys on steroids is like being taught how to climb stairs by a guy in an elevator.
Forsure it's always really hard to know what to believe as everyone has a different take on things and alot are pretty jaded because they have such a huge advantage, and maybe they've been in an enhanced state for awhile now but I also wouldn't just disregard everything they say, as im sure a whole lot of the saucy fokes were grinding it out n put a lot of time in as a natural and have some good wisdom before they Turned into a sith.
Well if you're not taking steroids you only have chances of looking like this guy up til about age 27. After that there's no way you can pack on and retain such muscle mass without extra "help".
My dad was a body builder and athlete (football/baseball).All but one of us 'kids' were athletes and my dad told us pretty much what Steve said - Eat natural foods and stay in shape -- And here I am 76 with a full gym in one of our bedrooms and still booking along almost full speed ahead.

My grandmother lived to 100. She didn't exercise, aside from doing yard and garden work, and loved to eat. Of course many of the later years were spent in a care home and a wheel-chair, so it's a trade-off between many years or quality of life.
To live that old you need to be well balanced. Mental health (always learning and creating), emotional health (always connecting and healing), and physical health (cardio first then strength).
Steve Reeves wasn't just the greatest bodybuilder of all time, he was also the most handsome star actor of the 50's and 60's. He mad his film debut with Debbie Reynolds and Jane Powell in Athena, an MGM musical, circa 1955. But, it wasn't till the late 50's and early 60's that he ushered in those massive historical epics of Hercules, Morgan the Pirate, The Giant of Marathon and on and on. Just entering our teens, the great Steve offered us more excitement than we could have imagined. He was the role model to get us cracking on building our skinny bodies and to make exercise a part of our daily regime and lives. Thanks to our wonderful UA-cam, we can still enjoy Steve in all his glory, not only in historicals and swashbucklers, but also in a Spaghetti Western. Wherever you are boy, always remember that the legacy of films and Health & Strength mags and books you've left behind, will be forever cherished.
When I was 14, I met Dave Draper, Reg Park, Sergio and Ben Weider about a mile from where I lived in South Miami. I, along with my friends were in awe of these guys. Reeves was awesome and inspired me to work out. at 70, I still go to the gym every day for 2 hours.
I was born in 1949 so I grew up seeing his movies and seeing him on body building magazines. As a teenager I was in awe of his physique in the Hercules movies.
Steve Reeves was my favorite childhood hero! I watched all of his Hercules movies and was inspired to train with weights early in life. Physical fitness has always been a priority largely because of Steve Reeves.
You did a stunning job on Steve Reeves in this video. Much gratitude to you. Steve Reeves is the height of inspiration for thousands and thousands of people like myself. Your research is amazing.
I was introduced to bodybuilding by my older brother, while the popular bodybuilders of the time were Rich Gaspari, Dorian Yates, Shawn Ray, etc. I also learned about the old times like Steve. I never used any kind of gear. I was able to become very strong and had an athletic build. At this point, I'm very glad I didn't use any drugs, and at my age, close to my 50's I'm in good shape, still athletic, and most people are surprised when they find out how old I am. I think the secret is simple. Have an active lifestyle where look forward to the challenge of a good workout, whatever that is for you. Eat a good, natural diet, learn from these great old timers and enjoy the journey.
It’s sad that he didn’t have any children. Men like him deserve to have a legacy but it’s sad really all because men like him deserve to leave some type of legacy behind. It’s always the good ones whom don’t end up having children for some odd reason.
Steve Reeves was by far the most symmetrically beautiful man I have ever seen. His arches were like a ballet dancer, which is a genetic feat that few men in bodybuilding can achieve without years of dance training. Some of his poses are so beautiful that they overshadow works of art. His waist-to-body ratio was so dynamic because unlike every other bodybuilder before or since him, he did not use heavy weights or steroids to build a huge bulging midsection of hard thick muscles that gets bloated during the off-season like a Santa Clause. it is hard for an artist like myself to view and comment on such a magnificent male physique, but I tried to offer my praise in a 4-page letter as a teenager that was accepted with grace, appreciation, and a slight admonishment that he was a happily married man and not interested. Although at that time I was taken aback, life eventually showed me how that was my mistake. Like many others, I began body-building myself and it is the single most efficient, simple, natural, and gratifying method of building each muscle and dissolving fat with the least cost that is available and I recommend it for the treatment of anorexia, as it maintains a hard muscle while exhibiting no fat to alarm those whose perception of fat has been exaggerated by their body dysmorphia. We can each achieve our own body's best possible strength and appearance with a simple regimen of exercises that becomes a habit and lifestyle, that takes less time, effort, and energy as time goes on but that will see you through your entire life with the strength you will be glad that you invested in.

@@jerrybaba2 i disagree abit. He had a measurement of 52 inch chest, but the picture where he was being measured by a girl is they started at the shoulders than below the armpits. Its not bad if his measuremenrs were a bit small, i think it was his shoulders that were 52 inches. While his arms were 17-18 inch. His quads 25 inch and his waist 30. I also think it depends on which time we are talking about, he looked bigger in some of his movies than his earlier body building days ofc his 1947 days he is a bit more leaner and have smaller in measurment.

Another fantastic video! Steve Reeves has always been one of my favorites as well. I have a few original photos of Steve taken after retirement and am absolutely blown away by the shape he maintained even into his later years. Truly an icon!
Steve was the greatest because he had no weaknesses in his physique. The best proportions chest to 29in. waist, arms legs, especially his 18 in calves which are usually the downfall of most bodybuilders. From his perfect hair to a chiseled adonis face.. He inspired so many bodybuilders who became famous. Considering all these factors,I think he had the most perfect body in modern history.

The only bodybuilders that have a chest like that generally use "Chest Expanders" AKA Cables. I understand Steve also used cables on his awesome calves as well!

Steve's look is the whole reason i picked up the weights. Its crazy, i learned about him when i was active duty in the Navy. It was an Army guy who let me borrow the body uilding book he had. Back then i was in crazy shape, i was into crossfit. I guess he saw my potential. I read the book and marveled at the natural body Steve built without supplements, or even a solid guide on exercises to perform. I took the reeves deadlift every seeiously, and nobody ever did them. They made fun of me until a year later aboard USS NEW YORK (LPD-21), I Became the biggest guy on the ship. To know he's a combat veteran adds more spice to the situation. Thanks Steve.
Steve Reeves was not a strong child and missed out on some things then like riding horses. So, when he moved to California, his choice as a teen to work on his health, feed his body right, and build his strength and physique is so very admirable and amazing. I don't consider him just a great inspiration for body building, but also an inspiration for being a person dedicated to making right choices and being committed to excellence. He played heroes in the movies, and he fit the parts not just because of looks, but because he had a certain inner strength and purpose that made his portrayals believable. It is so great his films have been preserved so we can see him in action. His great love and skill with horses is also preserved in a many of his films, and that is great to watch too!
I met Steve Reeves back in the 1990s. He was well into his 70s then and his hair was gray, but he was still has his muscular physique. He was also an extremely nice man.
When I started Bodybuilding at age 13, Steve was at the Top of His Game! He Inspired all of us in my school to start Bodybuilding! I have to Agree with you about Him being the Greatest Ever because Her did it the Natural Way and Did Not Take Steroids and become a Human Freak! I am now 78 years old and I have to Give Credit to those Old School Guys who Inspired us to eat Healthy and exercise, to be able to Live a Long Healthy Life! Thanks for This Video!
I am so glad this channel exists, it's inspiring to see physiques that might actually be attainable, or at least something like it. Looking at pics of roided up bodybuilders (and I know they work hard, and i'm not dissing anyone who makes a living out of it) just demotivates me cos I know that body/anything even close to it is unobtainable. Steroids have made it so hard to set your expectations properly cos you dont know what you could look like with hard/smart work naturally. This channel is a blessing, thank you.

He was my favorite as well. Growing up I had a uncle that had the same physique and I called him Uncle Hercules. What an inspiration. I have to give a shout out to Sly Stallone. To this day Sly always pays tribute to Steve Reeves for the influence he had on Sly. Arnold kinda does it, but not really.

In the 1970's I was a tree trimmer on a county Public Works crew and on one occasion we were cutting back limbs that were being hit by nursery trucks on the road that led to Steve Reeves' ranch. A car stopped in the work zone, Reeves climbed out and demanded to know what we were doing. Even though he was older and retired, he had a commanding physical presence. Luckily, once he understood what we were doing, he was fine with it and went on his way. Like so many boomers, I was in awe of him in my younger years and it was special to see him in person even if he was angry about the tree work.
Powerwalking is amazing ,i did that with rucking and this keep my posterior chain brutal STRONG. Did balístic moviments too and this help me achieve a 700 lb deadlift and 550 lb squat,natty.
People often say that his chest was "small", that is "small" in relation to the rest of his physique or "not big enough". What was must be borne in mind is that he intentionally did not want big pecs because this was viewed as being an aesthetic damper in his time and in his milieu (which was cinema and television). Steve Reeves thought the same (that is, a big chest - big pecs - does not look so great)! He could have blasted those pecs if he wanted to. Steve Reeves without a shadow of a doubt is the greatest-looking natural bodybuilder in recorded (photographed) history.

id argue people have surpassed him naturally in modern times. Stef Meyers, lexx little, not necessarily the exact look, because everyone's genetics are different, but I think Steve's physique and aesthetics are a good goal to shoot for
Reeves was one of the greatest for sure. Have looked up to his way of training for years. I am now 50 and am just as muscular and strong as when I was younger. The only issue I have now is keeping the fat off. I was always accused of being on something, but never have needed it. Even when I was a young boy, I was bigger and stronger than kids two years older than me. Helped to be born on a farm. Lots of hard work to do!

Great video NattyLife and it's good to see videos of bodybuilders who were natural and promoted natural health, lifting, and hard work as opposed to running to steroids and TRT as the answer. Someone who's natural can easily be proud and take pride in the body that they work for rather than someone who shoots up with steroids. I don't see how those guys can feel like they accomplished it all on their own effort 100% of the way. These days it looks like people want to take the easy route, but it comes at a cost, whether there are those who shoot up or those with come up with nothing more than excuses for not wanting to take the first step to improve their bodies, saying that it's impossible to attain to a naturally muscular body because of: men having lower testosterone in today's male population than in the past (or so people say), or because of the plethora of processed foods, or because they're not a genetic beast. Again, NattyLife, keep doing what you do and continue sharing this wealth of knowledge from the past that we can all learn from. The knowledge that those bodybuilders had in the past may not be as advanced as the information we have today but this "plain and simple" knowledge works wonders and it showed in their physiques and those on UA-cam such as you, Alex, and other nattys out there. It's possible to attain a physique that we could only dream of in our imagination and beyond to greater heights.
I saw Steve Reeves from the 1950's, even before he played "Hercules" in 1959 & have always felt that he was the greatest bodybuilder of all time! He would have been a 'natural' to play "Superman", if those movies had been made 20 years earlier! Even his last name was perfect for the role, i.e. Reeves!
Absolutely right! Unlike most actors in superhero movies Steve had the perfect build for that kind of role. At least he was in many of the best Fantasy and Historical films made. The man left his mark, one which even Zorro could envy!
A lot of folks with similar genetic insertions don’t put in the same level of dedication that he did. Nobody in my family’s got his genetics but man or woman I’ve got the best physique in several generations of my family due to dedication. I hope my kids surpass me though. Not that I look anywhere near as good as him.

I have the same question as you i think some of his measurements were a bit inaccurate. Plus if you compared him to modern body builders a lot had his measurements but were still a lot bigger than his, i don't buy that his waist is 29 inches IMO i think 30 is more accurate think his shoulder width is about 52 inches.

I'm really bummed out at seeing some of the greats looking like a train wreck. I worked out since 15 or so and my joints hurt ftom likely going too heavy and maybe not doing the workout wrong, I still work out at 76 even after a mild stroke. Rather die on the bench than lie on the coach. Easy Bro.

Back in old days, even if competitive bodybuilders weren't as healthy as Jack Lalane types, they'd still be markedly healthier than the average population thanks to their bodybuilding lifestyle. Nowadays, the top pros would seem to fare worse than smokers or couch potatoes when it comes to running up a flight of stairs or overall life expectancy. That really is a bit sad. I totally agree, Steve Reeves was the greatest bodybuilder of all time. Yes, there have been thousands since, many bigger (some, grotesquely bigger through chemistry), of all sizes and shapes, etcetera. However, Reeve's physique was like the 'archetype' of the developed male form. There have been other greats before and after him , for sure, but he set a standard of 'natural' male development that, in my estimation, is timeless.
Reeves is my favorite bodybuilder as well. Very interested in more content on reeves. He was great. I have the second book you mentioned that he wrote. My second favorite bodybuilder is probably frank zane.

Steve was the man!! He had the looks, height and had well proportioned shaped physique. I also admire Glen Bishop who was very popular in the 1950's Both had that V shaped torso which I tried to emulate. Today at eighty six I have a 46" chest and 33" waist. Fifty years ago I had a 44" chest and 28" waist. Guess I'm not doing too bad.
He has never been bettered and never will be bettered. You cannot improve on perfection. Prime Steve Reeves was the most perfect human specimen that ever lived . He was like a Greek god come to life.
At 63 Steve Reeves since I was a kid, I remember I got some big glossy's of him with some mail order course and really liked them, Wish I still had them I still watch his Hercules movies every year 💪🏼🧔🏽♂
I think I watched most of his movies as a kid and found his physique quite impressive. Not that it matters, but not only was he genetically gifted when it comes to bodybuilding but he also was very good looking (think he looked best with a beard). That might have helped a bit in his movie career as well. He certainly paved the way for guys with a bodybuilding background.
We had a neighbor back in the 50s that had the same physique as Steve. Of course I was wowed by his muscles and his strength. He could lift the front of a car. I was only 9 yrs and I did not understand the reaction of my body back then.
I have to agree with you about Reeves being the best bodybuilder of all time. Growing up in the 70s my hero was Arnold. But the older I got the more I came to respect and admire the bodybuilders of the 40s and 50s. Indeed, these were the first guys that inspired me to take up bodybuilding (Teenage Mr. Colorado Springs1981 my only claim to fame) when I discovered some Strength and Fitness and Muscle Builder magazines in an uncle's bedroom. Over the past 50 years bodybuilding became all about size and steroids with aesthetics completely abandoned. And yet this appears to mirror the mindset of popular culture where more and bigger is always better. Thanks!

Steve was an inspiration to many of us growing up. He taught perseverance. We loved his movie Hercules in 1957.

I was introduced to bodybuilding by my older brother, while the popular bodybuilders of the time were Rich Gaspari, Dorian Yates, Shawn Ray, etc. I also learned about the old times like Steve. I never used any kind of gear. I was able to become very strong and had an athletic build. At this point, I'm very glad I didn't use any drugs, and at my age, close to my 50's I'm in good shape, still athletic, and most people are surprised when they find out how old I am. I think the secret is simple. Have an active lifestyle where look forward to the challenge of a good workout, whatever that is for you. Eat a good, natural diet, learn from these great old timers and enjoy the journey.
50 here and can still out train most 25 year olds!

Steve Reeves was by far the most symmetrically beautiful man I have ever seen. His arches were like a ballet dancer, which is a genetic feat that few men in bodybuilding can achieve without years of dance training. Some of his poses are so beautiful that they overshadow works of art. His waist-to-body ratio was so dynamic because unlike every other bodybuilder before or since him, he did not use heavy weights or steroids to build a huge bulging midsection of hard thick muscles that gets bloated during the off-season like a Santa Clause. it is hard for an artist like myself to view and comment on such a magnificent male physique, but I tried to offer my praise in a 4-page letter as a teenager that was accepted with grace, appreciation, and a slight admonishment that he was a happily married man and not interested. Although at that time I was taken aback, life eventually showed me how that was my mistake. Like many others, I began body-building myself and it is the single most efficient, simple, natural, and gratifying method of building each muscle and dissolving fat with the least cost that is available and I recommend it for the treatment of anorexia, as it maintains a hard muscle while exhibiting no fat to alarm those whose perception of fat has been exaggerated by their body dysmorphia. We can each achieve our own body's best possible strength and appearance with a simple regimen of exercises that becomes a habit and lifestyle, that takes less time, effort, and energy as time goes on but that will see you through your entire life with the strength you will be glad that you invested in.

@@jmgonzales7701 Absolutely not, he was quite tall and those measurements are not at all unreasonable. Compared to today's champions, however, he was rather small.
@@jerrybaba2 i disagree abit. He had a measurement of 52 inch chest, but the picture where he was being measured by a girl is they started at the shoulders than below the armpits. Its not bad if his measuremenrs were a bit small, i think it was his shoulders that were 52 inches. While his arms were 17-18 inch. His quads 25 inch and his waist 30. I also think it depends on which time we are talking about, he looked bigger in some of his movies than his earlier body building days ofc his 1947 days he is a bit more leaner and have smaller in measurment.

Steve was the greatest because he had no weaknesses in his physique. The best proportions chest to 29in. waist, arms legs, especially his 18 in calves which are usually the downfall of most bodybuilders. From his perfect hair to a chiseled adonis face.. He inspired so many bodybuilders who became famous. Considering all these factors,I think he had the most perfect body in modern history.

The only bodybuilders that have a chest like that generally use "Chest Expanders" AKA Cables. I understand Steve also used cables on his awesome calves as well!

Steve's look is the whole reason i picked up the weights. Its crazy, i learned about him when i was active duty in the Navy. It was an Army guy who let me borrow the body uilding book he had. Back then i was in crazy shape, i was into crossfit. I guess he saw my potential. I read the book and marveled at the natural body Steve built without supplements, or even a solid guide on exercises to perform. I took the reeves deadlift every seeiously, and nobody ever did them. They made fun of me until a year later aboard USS NEW YORK (LPD-21), I Became the biggest guy on the ship. To know he's a combat veteran adds more spice to the situation. Thanks Steve.

Steve Reeves was not a strong child and missed out on some things then like riding horses. So, when he moved to California, his choice as a teen to work on his health, feed his body right, and build his strength and physique is so very admirable and amazing. I don't consider him just a great inspiration for body building, but also an inspiration for being a person dedicated to making right choices and being committed to excellence. He played heroes in the movies, and he fit the parts not just because of looks, but because he had a certain inner strength and purpose that made his portrayals believable. It is so great his films have been preserved so we can see him in action. His great love and skill with horses is also preserved in a many of his films, and that is great to watch too!
I met Steve Reeves back in the 1990s. He was well into his 70s then and his hair was gray, but he was still has his muscular physique. He was also an extremely nice man.

When I started Bodybuilding at age 13, Steve was at the Top of His Game! He Inspired all of us in my school to start Bodybuilding! I have to Agree with you about Him being the Greatest Ever because Her did it the Natural Way and Did Not Take Steroids and become a Human Freak! I am now 78 years old and I have to Give Credit to those Old School Guys who Inspired us to eat Healthy and exercise, to be able to Live a Long Healthy Life! Thanks for This Video!
I am so glad this channel exists, it's inspiring to see physiques that might actually be attainable, or at least something like it. Looking at pics of roided up bodybuilders (and I know they work hard, and i'm not dissing anyone who makes a living out of it) just demotivates me cos I know that body/anything even close to it is unobtainable. Steroids have made it so hard to set your expectations properly cos you dont know what you could look like with hard/smart work naturally.

He was my favorite as well. Growing up I had a uncle that had the same physique and I called him Uncle Hercules. What an inspiration. I have to give a shout out to Sly Stallone. To this day Sly always pays tribute to Steve Reeves for the influence he had on Sly. Arnold kinda does it, but not really.

In the 1970's I was a tree trimmer on a county Public Works crew and on one occasion we were cutting back limbs that were being hit by nursery trucks on the road that led to Steve Reeves' ranch. A car stopped in the work zone, Reeves climbed out and demanded to know what we were doing. Even though he was older and retired, he had a commanding physical presence. Luckily, once he understood what we were doing, he was fine with it and went on his way. Like so many boomers, I was in awe of him in my younger years and it was special to see him in person even if he was angry about the tree work.
His physique is just insane.

People often say that his chest was "small", that is "small" in relation to the rest of his physique or "not big enough". What was must be borne in mind is that he intentionally did not want big pecs because this was viewed as being an aesthetic damper in his time and in his milieu (which was cinema and television). Steve Reeves thought the same (that is, a big chest - big pecs - does not look so great)! He could have blasted those pecs if he wanted to. Steve Reeves without a shadow of a doubt is the greatest-looking natural bodybuilder in recorded (photographed) history.

id argue people have surpassed him naturally in modern times. Stef Meyers, lexx little, not necessarily the exact look, because everyone's genetics are different, but I think Steve's physique and aesthetics are a good goal to shoot for

Reeves was one of the greatest for sure. Have looked up to his way of training for years. I am now 50 and am just as muscular and strong as when I was younger. The only issue I have now is keeping the fat off. I was always accused of being on something, but never have needed it. Even when I was a young boy, I was bigger and stronger than kids two years older than me. Helped to be born on a farm. Lots of hard work to do!

The Only Man on Earth, that could Match Steve Reeves in looks, is Probably Donald J.Trump. Me too. In my opinion, Steve Reeves had the most beautiful and the perfect physique which no other body builder could ever achieve. At the same time, he was very handsome. Since, my childhood, I must have watched "Hercules" at least three times. I also have seen some other of his movies. I was recently remembering him and your video popped up. Thanks for the wonderful video on his biography.

Great video NattyLife and it's good to see videos of bodybuilders who were natural and promoted natural health, lifting, and hard work as opposed to running to steroids and TRT as the answer. Someone who's natural can easily be proud and take pride in the body that they work for rather than someone who shoots up with steroids. I don't see how those guys can feel like they accomplished it all on their own effort 100% of the way. These days it looks like people want to take the easy route, but it comes at a cost, whether there are those who shoot up or those with come up with nothing more than excuses for not wanting to take the first step to improve their bodies, saying that it's impossible to attain to a naturally muscular body because of: men having lower testosterone in today's male population than in the past (or so people say), or because of the plethora of processed foods, or because they're not a genetic beast.
Again, NattyLife, keep doing what you do and continue sharing this wealth of knowledge from the past that we can all learn from. The knowledge that those bodybuilders had in the past may not be as advanced as the information we have today but this "plain and simple" knowledge works wonders and it showed in their physiques and those on UA-cam such as you, Alex, and other nattys out there. It's possible to attain a physique that we could only dream of in our imagination and beyond to greater heights.

I saw Steve Reeves from the 1950's, even before he played "Hercules" in 1959 & have always felt that
he was the greatest bodybuilder of all time! He would have been a 'natural' to play "Superman", if
those movies had been made 20 years earlier! Even his last name was perfect for the role, i.e. Reeves!
Absolutely right! Unlike most actors in superhero movies Steve had the perfect build for that kind of role. At least he was in many of the best Fantasy and Historical films made. The man left his mark, one which even Zorro could envy!
Having those insertions and measurements while also being 6'1 makes me realize how genetics can make ur life SO much easier
A lot of folks with similar genetic insertions don’t put in the same level of dedication that he did.
Nobody in my family’s got his genetics but man or woman I’ve got the best physique in several generations of my family due to dedication. I hope my kids surpass me though.

Plus if you compared him to modern body builders a lot had his measurements but were still a lot bigger than his, i don't buy that his waist is 29 inches IMO i think 30 is more accurate think his shoulder width is about 52 inches.

I'm really bummed out at seeing some of the greats looking like a train wreck. I worked out since 15 or so and my joints hurt ftom likely going too heavy and maybe not doing the workout wrong, I still work out at 76 even after a mild stroke. Rather die on the bench than lie on the coach. Easy Bro.

I totally agree, Steve Reeves was the greatest bodybuilder of all time. Yes, there have been thousands since, many bigger (some, grotesquely bigger through chemistry), of all sizes and shapes, etcetera. However, Reeve's physique was like the 'archetype' of the developed male form. There have been other greats before and after him , for sure, but he set a standard of 'natural' male development that, in my estimation, is timeless.

Steve was the man!! He had the looks, height and had well proportioned shaped physique. I also admire Glen Bishop who was very popular in the 1950's Both had that V shaped torso which I tried to emulate.
Today at eighty six I have a 46" chest and 33" waist. Fifty years ago I had a 44" chest and 28" waist. Guess I'm not doing too bad.

At 63 Steve Reeves since I was a kid, I remember I got some big glossy's of him with some mail order course and really liked them, Wish I still had them

I think I watched most of his movies as a kid and found his physique quite impressive. Not that it matters, but not only was he genetically gifted when it comes to bodybuilding but he also was very good looking (think he looked best with a beard). That might have helped a bit in his movie career as well. He certainly paved the way for guys with a bodybuilding background.

We had a neighbor back in the 50s that had the same physique as Steve. Of course I was wowed by his muscles and his strength. He could lift the front of a car. I was only 9 yrs and I did not understand the reaction of my body back then.

I have to agree with you about Reeves being the best bodybuilder of all time. Growing up in the 70s my hero was Arnold. But the older I got the more I came to respect and admire the bodybuilders of the 40s and 50s. Indeed, these were the first guys that inspired me to take up bodybuilding (Teenage Mr. Colorado Springs1981 my only claim to fame) when I discovered some Strength and Fitness and Muscle Builder magazines in an uncle's bedroom. Over the past 50 years bodybuilding became all about size and steroids with aesthetics completely abandoned. And yet this appears to mirror the mindset of popular culture where more and bigger is always better. Thanks!
