I've been using Hoppe's ever since my days in the Marine Corps more than 50 years ago! It has never let me down in all that time! I think that I will stay with it! Always someone coming up with a new gimmick! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"!
Yep. Been using Hoppes #9 and CLP since 1986. Although I did start using a dab of Tetra Gun grease on some of the high-friction points recently in my AR and handgun.

The hoppes will always be the strongest because it's ammonia based which is horrid for repeated use on firearms, especially if it gets on anything polymer or wood/plastic. The shooter lube is BY FAR the best safe, natural and eco friendly solvent on the market and IS NOT MENT to soak anything with. It's very fast evaporating so you spray it in a small spot and right when it flashes off you wipe the stuff off. You would think he would research the product before comparing it to something. He's not only making himself look bad but he's wrongfully asserting a products bad due to his own negligence.
Good video. This suppressor cleaning demonstrates ability of both products. I have used both, and find that shooters lube is only good for wetting a rag on a freshly dirty gun. Thier lube seems to be slick enough, but what bothers me, is that they say it's biodegradable... Which to me, means over time, it may break down and turn to sludge on a safe queen. I've used Hoppes since I was introduced to gun cleaner in the mid 70's... It does stink, but it does the job. I've tried different oils, and my latest is Slip 2000 EWL. It seems to be really slick, noticeable smoothness increase in an action, but haven't used it long enough to determine if it's a keeper. Always have Hoppes around as a backup, and I use it on my knives too.
I do like their oil. I use it quite a bit but I will have to keep an eye on it overtime. I never thought about it being biodegradable and braking down. Thanks!

Always use hoppes for my deep cleans and then top off with a light spray of classic CLP just to keep everything lubricated. Perfect test for comparing the two, glad I never wasted my money on shooter lube.

Great comparison, I and my Grandpa before me have always used Hoppes #9 When I was in the Army I always cleaned my M-16 with Hoppe"s and got a first time pass by the Arms room Sergeant. Then when I became a Platoon Sergeant I gave it out to my troops so they could pass quickly and go home after a long mission. Of course we would lubricate it with issue CLP after the cleaning. For some reason folks seem to think you have to put skulls and crossed ARs to be able to sell their product. Hoppe"s has had the same color scheme forever no pretension just good reliable product!
Shooter Lube is garbage!!! I returned my order & got a full refund. I really wanted it to work better than Hoppes 9, but theres simply no better bore solvent on the market!!! Been around since 1903 for a reason!!!
Hoppe’s #9 High Performance Solvent is better than Shooter Lube even when cleaning after recently shooting. I wanted to tryout Shooter Lube. So I used it to thoroughly clean my pistol. Spent a lot of time. I was suspect of it because it was removing less from areas than what is normal. I started over with cleaning, using Hoppe’s #9. Yup… The patches didn’t lie. I quickly realized that what appears to be “clean” with Shooter Lube isn’t clean. UPDATE 07/08/23: Shooter Lube Solvent is still useful if you want something that doesn’t put off fumes. I wouldn’t suggest being solely dependent on it. I use Shooter Lube because it helps maintain some level of cleanliness with my pistol. It doesn’t put off fumes so my wife doesn’t complain when I use it. After 2-3 cleaning sessions, I will use Hoppe’s to deep. But I also clean my gun after shooting less than 150 rounds. For those who go 1000+ rounds before cleaning, I wouldn’t recommend using Shooter Lube Solvent. Because their gun will likely experience build up.
I would love to see another of these, but comparing the Hoppe's No. 9 to the Hoppe's Elite Gun Cleaner. I prefer using No.9 because I grew up on black powder shooting, but started using the Hoppe's Elite after every range trip, and it works well enough for me. Just curious now to see the comparison.

I did a powder burn test comparison between Shooter Lube & Hoppes 9. Just as i suspected, nothing beats Hoppes 9. Military grade should've told me what i needed to know, but like usual, i gotta find out the hard way. If you want a deep ckean.... Hoppes 9 is the best!!!
I used hoppe,s when Iwas in the Marine Corps 1968 to clean my M14,And my M16 in V ietnam.Great stuff to this day,I still use it. My weapons sparkeld like a diamond in a goats ass.
I’ll take a little reduced cleaning ability and all my brain cells. Hoppes is no doubt a good cleaner, but it’s toxic and smells up my whole damn house ☠️. Plus I don’t have to wear gloves when I use shooter’s lube, it doesn’t stain anything, and I can clean my guns anywhere in the house. I’ve been using it on an HK p30, S&W M&P, and an Aero ar-15 (usually after 3-4 range days) for about two years now and it’s worked pretty well.
Agreed I hadn't used it in years but I recently zeroed a scope and had to clean my rifle I of course let it sit for months so I decided to use Hopps #9 as I had it boy what a mistake it did the job I followed up with some Break Free CLP I immediately removed any rags had the kitchen exhaust fan it didn't matter the smell left me faint what was more alarming about a 1/2 hour later the effects of the smell left me alarmed as I felt really off. I then thru the bottle of Hopps 9 out into the outside garbage I swore I will never use it again I looking into a non toxic product called Breakthrough and Go Juice for lube I will never use toxic stuff ever again
Nice video man you should try boiling some water 1/2 cup mixed with 1/2 cup purple power for time lapse I would try five hours Then just use some rags and Q-tips it worked for my aluminum baffles but they came out looking like it had white chalk dust. so you have to rinse them back off and then apply your favorite type of lubricant.
The only problem with Shooter Lube; is THEIR remarkably poor and complete failure of a distribution sales division... They’ve MAINTAINED an ‘F’ Rating on the BBB website if that doesn’t speak volume. Over a week to get such a small product. Ridiculous, it's 2024, get with it people...
Very good and interesting vid! FIY, the reason Hoppes is better is because it is mainly kerosene-based, and some ammonia's with it, and a bit of banana oil (for fragrance..no shit!). Just for fun, it's actually pronounced "HOPPeez", (I still call it "Hops", tho), and the #9 refers to the nine ingrediants in the formulation. Keep the good vids rolling, bro!
Some people say “ stop using the old stuff because the new stuff is better “ and or the other way around. The truth is somewhere in the middle. I have use hoppes, ballistol, CLP, slip 2000, tetra , liberty oil, frog lube and plain industrial solvents oils and degreasers some work better then other in cleaning and some work better in lubricating. But be aware of the influx in products with cool names and nano super amazing unbelievable space technology made in a garage. While is true the product works as a “cleaner, degreaser, lubricant” most often not for the price or as advance as advertised and getting better or same results with the home products. Remember, don’t over grease and you get better results by just cleaning your “tools” often
Yep, Shooter's Lube is snake oil that does not work. There is a reason that Hoppe's #9 has stood the test of time. FYI, it is pronounced Hop-eez, not Hops.
Given all the glowing reviews elsewhere on this solvent I thought your review had to be a mistake. So I cleaned my suppressor with Hoppes and Shooter Lube Solvent myself. I cleaned with Shooter Lube until my rag stopped getting dirty. Then I re-cleaned with Hoppes and got incredible amounts of fowling off. I am a subscriber now. Out of curiosity, did you ever put the SL Oil to any kind of test? People swear by it, but of course now I am skeptical. Do you have an oil that you find better than others?

@@bva8252 the reason it seems to work so good is because it's taking off the loose carbon and dirt. So pistol slides it's good for not that much build up gets on those.

If you want a non toxic alternative use Breakthrough Solvent it's a Hoppes #9, but better than Shooter's Lube. Hoppes will always be the gold standard for solvents in firearms despite the strong smell.
Lesson for today: Don't watch Tactical Toolbox. My friend watches him and got shooter lube from his recommendation. I told him it was garbage when I tried his bottle of it, but he is in denial.

I don't use FrogLube haven't heard much good things about it. I used the Hopps on my tubes and aluminum baffles. I used a dip method on my titanium and steel baffles these baffles are the titanium.
I wish I had thought about looking for this video before I just bought Shooters Lube. Their package just came in theail a few minutes ago. I've always been a Hoppes guy. Guess I'll stick with it. Thanks for your videoi and demo
Thanks for the video. Not gonna lie, I like the oil. But I would like to use a better solvent to deep clean my guns. I don't get them super filthy, so it's worked for me but with that being said, I feel that all I should have to do is spray some of the stage one on it let it dry for 20 minutes or so then wipe it down one time. Sometimes that's not the case. I clean my guns once a month after carry and every range visit. Usually 100 rounds or so. So they shouldn't be that dirty. I'll have to look into this. Probably need to switch back to hoppes. Get away from all the exotic gun lubricants shooters lube, amzoil and lucas. I've heard of people using motor oil! Even lucas oil stabilizer!! I think he said he was going to mix it but still! That's awful thick.
Ballistol is good for corrosion resistance. If you're shooting something with corrosive primers, etc. a good blast with ballistol before you actually have time to break the weapon down and clean it will help prevent corrosion. I keep a can of Ballistol around just for that. For cleaning everything else I use Hoppe's. And then lube with either Lucas Gun Oil or white lithium grease like Tetra Grease depending on what it is. About the only thing I use the grease on anymore is my M1 Garand and M1 Carbine.
@@Shane-Singleton Nailed it. I always carry a bottle of Ballistol in my range bag. Even tho I dont shoot corrosive ammo, its a good lubricant and a safe way to protect and preserve metals. But for good ol cleaning, Hoppes and Lucas oil seem to pair up well.
@@DesertTactical Yes sir. I only recently discovered that Lucas made a gun oil. Picked it up at the auto parts store of all places and have been very pleased with it.
Everything is a trade off. If you’re OK with something that’s more toxic, has an odor, and doesn’t dry as fast, Hoppe’s might be fine. But realistically, if your gun is really dirty, you’re going to apply solvent/cleaner, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then use brushes, swabs, rags, and patches to remove build up…and then you’re going to immediately lubricate your weapon. While the Hoppe’s might take more off without a brush, etc. the trade off is that it leaves your parts (nooks & crannies) much wetter longer (meaning you shouldn’t apply lube until everything is dry…otherwise your lubricant will be compromised by the solvent), plus Hoppe’s is toxic and smells. For a realistic cleaning use case, SL seems to do a great job without the potential health hazards or odor (plus it has more useful packaging and applicators).
I usually sprayed down with a spray called gun scrub it's like a brake cleaner but for guns it dries fast and takes oil and any solvent left on the gun off.
Yep, I've wasted a lot of money over the years on these "miracle" cleaners and I always return to Hoppes #9. There are plenty of videos comparing it to these newer cleaners in many different ways. Haven't seen one that beats #9 yet. As for the smell, I guess that's subjective. I don't mind it at all, and neither does the wife. For lube, I've gotten away from the high dollar "gun specific" stuff and I mix my own. Mix some full synthetic oil with some red synthetic grease just enough to get a slightly syrupy consistency and it works as good if not better than anything on the market. If your concern is rusting, which mostly occurs on the exterior, and you want tougher non-oily protection, then get yourself a jar of Renaissance wax. It contains no acids and works on leather, polymer, etc with no issues. Also resists finger prints really well.
It took me a long the to get use to the smell but its been working for me for years now. I still use the Shooter Lube but that's because I still have some from this order.
@@308c Yeah, my most recent waste was $40 on a bottle of Bore Tech C4 carbon cleaner and $40 on a bottle of their copper remover. The carbon cleaner is ok, it works to some degree, but it leaves a weird sort of sticky/soapy feeling residue, so I mainly use it for light cleaning. The copper remover is junk, doesn't touch copper at all. For that, I use KG-12.
Looks like i'll be sticking with Hoppe's. When I first opened a jar of Hoppe's the first thing that came to mind when I smelled it was "So THIS is where the smell in my favorite gun/gunsmith shop is coming from" because it was very evident that is what they use, lol. I had pretty much the same disappointment with shooter lube. After receiving it it tried cleaning my Stainless steel revolver with it. It did not work well at all. Cleaned it 3 times with S.L. and had to clean it all over again with Hoppe's #9. PLUS, I CANNOT GET THEM TO ANSWER THE PHONE OR RETURN PHONE CALLS SO I CAN RETURN IT FOR A REFUND!!! Finally had to ask my credit card Co. to reverse the charge and they did. I don't know what's going on with these people but the suck!
I'm a Hoppe's loyalist myself. But this test does not draw the conclusions you are assuming. Shooter lube is a biodegradable solvent made with natural ingredients. Hopes is a biohazardous chemical. The biodegradable chemical will OBVIOUSLY NEED AGITATION TO WORK. As chemicals work to destroy particles on a molecular level. Enzymatic based cleansers are designed to separate the foreign substance from the native substance. So agitation will be needed. If you completed the test by wiping both parts to finalize your end result. Then maybe you would've proven something. As this test stands. It's inconclusive to performance. But does show you the danger of chemicals destructive power.
I started using shooter lube a few days and have had good results so far. I’ve tried several different brands of solvents and although I had good results with Hoppes the smell would really make me nauseous for a couple of hours after using it. The Shooter Lube has almost no smell, dries quickly, applies easily with the spray bottle supplied with it and works just as good as hoppes so why put up with the smell when it works at least as well. The oil and the applicator make lubing really easy too. I’m not sure what you’re using but that is not the same shooter lube I’ve been using for sure. Like most people I’ve found it to work well. It’s not a miracle cleaner but does the job for me and without the smell and is just easier to use.
The plastic used in the botttle is different is all. The label is exactly the same. The lack of smell is probably worth it even if it isn't as effective.
Hoppes Elite doesn’t have the ammonia and still does the job very well without the smell that the 9 series has. I use it on my S&W M&P Shield EZ and it has been keeping it nice
Everyone has there preferences (ballistol,CLP, hoppes9 and claims the product they use is the best. Try several and see which one works best for you and your firearm.
Why is your shooters lube in a black bottle? Everyone else has a red bottle. When I tried both, I found that shooters lube cleaned better than hopped, and I’ve been using hopped for over ten years. Idk about your review!

I mean I'd love for the smaller vet owned company to win, but given how expensive it is, and how little it did I guess I stick to hoppe's. If it did slightly better it would be a different argument but the way they advertised it vs your video... I'd say it must of been pretty doctored for the ad.
It works on pistol slides because the carbon build up is not really stuck on the side. Heavy carbon build up like inside of a AR bolt is a different story.
I just cannot tolerate the smell even in well ventilated areas of Hopps # 9 it just is so intolerable to its almost like I have an allergic reaction I hadn't used Hopps but recently zeroed in a scope so I had to clean my rifle usually I use Break free CLP but had some leftover Hopps and wow the reaction about a half hour later after breathing in the fumes from Hopps I thought I was gonna die I immediately thru it out and set out the buy some Breakthrough Non Toxic stuff and I won't look back Hopps in my book is Death in a bottle
Wow your body really doesn't like the Hopps. I think I've become nose blind to the smell. After I made this video, I've still been using the Shooter Lube. I haven't purchased any more since then but I did find the way it works best for me when cleaning my firearms. I've been thing about order directly from there wed sit and do another video.

I hear good things about a couple of products Breakthrough solvents and Lubes, Go Juice for Lube, and Clenzoil I saw a youtube test on Clenzoil and it had really good protective qualities from corrosion and cleaning but where it really stood out is creates super protective barrier that eliminates wear friction areas like your rails I mean it was head and shoulders better then anything out there only Break Free CLP came close to friction wear I use Break free CLP too but I am not opposed to using a few different products. I will use my Break Free CLP which came in close to Clenzoil but I am going to purchase Breakthrough's products, and Go Juice and Clenzoil

I have nothing against Shooter Lube nor am I trying get people to like Hoppe's. Before this test used Shooter Lube just like everyone else, spray it on my gun wipe it off and it came clean. I loved it, almost stopped using Hoppe's. But I really wanted to know if they where braking down the lead and carbon.
That's not shooter lube..that's something else because I did this and shooter lube does clean better than Hoppes and other solvents.this is fake as can be..Besides I just ordered some and my bottles are red..

Thank you I used the lube once and was quite disappointed as well. Dad used Hoppes and I won't go back. The lube is good after a good Hoppes bath.
I would love to see another of these, but comparing the Hoppe's No. 9 to the Hoppe's Elite Gun Cleaner. I prefer using No.9 because I grew up on black powder shooting, but started using the Hoppe's Elite after every range trip, and it works well enough for me. Just curious now to see the comparison.

I found it to be good for quite cleaning but not good for heavy carbon build up.

I did a powder burn test comparison between Shooter Lube & Hoppes 9. Just as i suspected, nothing beats Hoppes 9. Military grade should've told me what i needed to know, but like usual, i gotta find out the hard way. If you want a deep ckean.... Hoppes 9 is the best!!!

Shooter lube works for light cleaning and the lack of and the fact that it drys a little fast helps. But 100% Hoppes for everything else.
I used hoppe,s when Iwas in the Marine Corps 1968 to clean my M14,And my M16 in V ietnam.Great stuff to this day,I still use it. My weapons sparkeld like a diamond in a goats ass.

I’ll take a little reduced cleaning ability and all my brain cells. Hoppes is no doubt a good cleaner, but it’s toxic and smells up my whole damn house ☠️. Plus I don’t have to wear gloves when I use shooter’s lube, it doesn’t stain anything, and I can clean my guns anywhere in the house. I’ve been using it on an HK p30, S&W M&P, and an Aero ar-15 (usually after 3-4 range days) for about two years now and it’s worked pretty well.
That’s why I use Hoppes Elite, it does not contain ammonia like the #9 and it does very well for my S&W M&P Shield EZ
Agreed I hadn't used it in years but I recently zeroed a scope and had to clean my rifle I of course let it sit for months so I decided to use Hopps #9 as I had it boy what a mistake it did the job I followed up with some Break Free CLP I immediately removed any rags had the kitchen exhaust fan it didn't matter the smell left me faint what was more alarming about a 1/2 hour later the effects of the smell left me alarmed as I felt really off. I then thru the bottle of Hopps 9 out into the outside garbage I swore I will never use it again I looking into a non toxic product called Breakthrough and Go Juice for lube I will never use toxic stuff ever again

Nice video man you should try boiling some water 1/2 cup mixed with 1/2 cup purple power for time lapse I would try five hours Then just use some rags and Q-tips it worked for my aluminum baffles but they came out looking like it had white chalk dust. so you have to rinse them back off and then apply your favorite type of lubricant.

Very good and interesting vid! FIY, the reason Hoppes is better is because it is mainly kerosene-based, and some ammonia's with it, and a bit of banana oil (for fragrance..no shit!). Just for fun, it's actually pronounced "HOPPeez", (I still call it "Hops", tho), and the #9 refers to the nine ingrediants in the formulation. Keep the good vids rolling, bro!

The truth is somewhere in the middle. I have use hoppes, ballistol, CLP, slip 2000, tetra , liberty oil, frog lube and plain industrial solvents oils and degreasers some work better then other in cleaning and some work better in lubricating. But be aware of the influx in products with cool names and nano super amazing unbelievable space technology made in a garage. While is true the product works as a “cleaner, degreaser, lubricant” most often not for the price or as advance as advertised and getting better or same results with the home products.
Remember, don’t over grease and you get better results by just cleaning your “tools” often
Yep, Shooter's Lube is snake oil that does not work. There is a reason that Hoppe's #9 has stood the test of time.

Given all the glowing reviews elsewhere on this solvent I thought your review had to be a mistake. So I cleaned my suppressor with Hoppes and Shooter Lube Solvent myself. I cleaned with Shooter Lube until my rag stopped getting dirty. Then I re-cleaned with Hoppes and got incredible amounts of fowling off. I am a subscriber now.
Out of curiosity, did you ever put the SL Oil to any kind of test? People swear by it, but of course now I am skeptical. Do you have an oil that you find better than others?

@@308c yeah good ole yellow and green. it is amazing to watch some of the other reviews of guys using the solvent though... right there on the video the solvent hardly takes any of the fowling off but the reviewers swear its great stuff. something doesn't smell right.
@@bva8252 the reason it seems to work so good is because it's taking off the loose carbon and dirt. So pistol slides it's good for not that much build up gets on those.
Extremely silly comparison to make. The hoppes will always be the strongest because it's ammonia based which is horrid for repeated use on firearms, especially if it gets on anything polymer or wood/plastic. The shooter lube is BY FAR the best safe, natural and eco friendly solvent on the market and IS NOT MENT to soak anything with. It's very fast evaporating so you spray it in a small spot and right when it flashes off you wipe the stuff off. You would think he would research the product before comparing it to something. He's not only making himself look bad but he's wrongfully asserting a products bad due to his own negligence.

Well shooter lube says military grade, so military grade is often shit. Anyone in the military would tell you.
If you want a non toxic alternative use Breakthrough Solvent it's a Hoppes #9, but better than Shooter's Lube. Hoppes will always be the gold standard for solvents in firearms despite the strong smell.
Lesson for today: Don't watch Tactical Toolbox. My friend watches him and got shooter lube from his recommendation. I told him it was garbage when I tried his bottle of it, but he is in denial.

Im buying some hoppes 🤘 ive always had trouble cleaning baffles on my 22 suppressor. have you ever tried cleaning them with FrogLube ?
I don't use FrogLube haven't heard much good things about it. I used the Hopps on my tubes and aluminum baffles. I used a dip method on my titanium and steel baffles these baffles are the titanium.
I wish I had thought about looking for this video before I just bought Shooters Lube. Their package just came in theail a few minutes ago. I've always been a Hoppes guy. Guess I'll stick with it. Thanks for your videoi and demo
I found it word good for quite and light cleaning. Anything more Hoppes works best for me.
Thanks for the video. Not gonna lie, I like the oil. But I would like to use a better solvent to deep clean my guns. I don't get them super filthy, so it's worked for me but with that being said, I feel that all I should have to do is spray some of the stage one on it let it dry for 20 minutes or so then wipe it down one time. Sometimes that's not the case. I clean my guns once a month after carry and every range visit. Usually 100 rounds or so. So they shouldn't be that dirty. I'll have to look into this. Probably need to switch back to hoppes. Get away from all the exotic gun lubricants shooters lube, amzoil and lucas. I've heard of people using motor oil! Even lucas oil stabilizer!! I think he said he was going to mix it but still! That's awful thick.

There are videos here on YT that compare Ballistol to Hoppe. Not even close. Hoppe cleans it in a minute, Ballistol took 15 minutes to do a good job.
Ballistol is good for corrosion resistance. If you're shooting something with corrosive primers, etc. a good blast with ballistol before you actually have time to break the weapon down and clean it will help prevent corrosion. I keep a can of Ballistol around just for that. For cleaning everything else I use Hoppe's. And then lube with either Lucas Gun Oil or white lithium grease like Tetra Grease depending on what it is. About the only thing I use the grease on anymore is my M1 Garand and M1 Carbine.
@@Shane-Singleton Nailed it. I always carry a bottle of Ballistol in my range bag. Even tho I dont shoot corrosive ammo, its a good lubricant and a safe way to protect and preserve metals. But for good ol cleaning, Hoppes and Lucas oil seem to pair up well.
@@DesertTactical Yes sir. I only recently discovered that Lucas made a gun oil. Picked it up at the auto parts store of all places and have been very pleased with it.
I use oil to lube and cleaner to clean, not a big fan of all these CLPs etc.. Used Hoppes for years works every time all the time.
Everything is a trade off. If you’re OK with something that’s more toxic, has an odor, and doesn’t dry as fast, Hoppe’s might be fine. But realistically, if your gun is really dirty, you’re going to apply solvent/cleaner, let it sit for a couple of minutes, then use brushes, swabs, rags, and patches to remove build up…and then you’re going to immediately lubricate your weapon. While the Hoppe’s might take more off without a brush, etc. the trade off is that it leaves your parts (nooks & crannies) much wetter longer (meaning you shouldn’t apply lube until everything is dry…otherwise your lubricant will be compromised by the solvent), plus Hoppe’s is toxic and smells. For a realistic cleaning use case, SL seems to do a great job without the potential health hazards or odor (plus it has more useful packaging and applicators).
I usually sprayed down with a spray called gun scrub it's like a brake cleaner but for guns it dries fast and takes oil and any solvent left on the gun off.
Yep, I've wasted a lot of money over the years on these "miracle" cleaners and I always return to Hoppes #9. There are plenty of videos comparing it to these newer cleaners in many different ways. Haven't seen one that beats #9 yet.
As for the smell, I guess that's subjective. I don't mind it at all, and neither does the wife.
For lube, I've gotten away from the high dollar "gun specific" stuff and I mix my own. Mix some full synthetic oil with some red synthetic grease just enough to get a slightly syrupy consistency and it works as good if not better than anything on the market. If your concern is rusting, which mostly occurs on the exterior, and you want tougher non-oily protection, then get yourself a jar of Renaissance wax. It contains no acids and works on leather, polymer, etc with no issues. Also resists finger prints really well.
It took me a long the to get use to the smell but its been working for me for years now. I still use the Shooter Lube but that's because I still have some from this order.
@@308c Yeah, my most recent waste was $40 on a bottle of Bore Tech C4 carbon cleaner and $40 on a bottle of their copper remover.
The carbon cleaner is ok, it works to some degree, but it leaves a weird sort of sticky/soapy feeling residue, so I mainly use it for light cleaning. The copper remover is junk, doesn't touch copper at all. For that, I use KG-12.
I use Hoppes Elite, honestly not sure if it really “beats” the Hoppes 9 but to me it seems to do the job well without the ammonia and smell that 9 has

Looks like i'll be sticking with Hoppe's. When I first opened a jar of Hoppe's the first thing that came to mind when I smelled it was "So THIS is where the smell in my favorite gun/gunsmith shop is coming from" because it was very evident that is what they use, lol. I just used shooter lube spray on my Mossberg, and it cleans okay. it does leave some splotches. I don't know. I just got it though.
I still use it but just for light quick cleaning. I like the fact it has no smell and drys up fast.

I had pretty much the same disappointment with shooter lube.
After receiving it it tried cleaning my Stainless steel revolver with it.
It did not work well at all. Cleaned it 3 times with S.L. and had to clean it all over again with Hoppe's #9.
PLUS, I CANNOT GET THEM TO ANSWER THE PHONE OR RETURN PHONE CALLS SO I CAN RETURN IT FOR A REFUND!!!
Finally had to ask my credit card Co. to reverse the charge and they did.

I'm a Hoppe's loyalist myself. But this test does not draw the conclusions you are assuming. Shooter lube is a biodegradable solvent made with natural ingredients. Hopes is a biohazardous chemical.
The biodegradable chemical will OBVIOUSLY NEED AGITATION TO WORK. As chemicals work to destroy particles on a molecular level. Enzymatic based cleansers are designed to separate the foreign substance from the native substance.
So agitation will be needed. If you completed the test by wiping both parts to finalize your end result. Then maybe you would've proven something. As this test stands. It's inconclusive to performance. But does show you the danger of chemicals destructive power.
I started using shooter lube a few days and have had good results so far. I’ve tried several different brands of solvents and although I had good results with Hoppes the smell would really make me nauseous for a couple of hours after using it. The Shooter Lube has almost no smell, dries quickly, applies easily with the spray bottle supplied with it and works just as good as hoppes so why put up with the smell when it works at least as well. The oil and the applicator make lubing really easy too.
I’m not sure what you’re using but that is not the same shooter lube I’ve been using for sure. Like most people I’ve found it to work well. It’s not a miracle cleaner but does the job for me and without the smell and is just easier to use.
I found it works good on my pistols but not so good on my semi auto rifles where the carbon get heavy build up like the inside the bolts.
The plastic used in the botttle is different is all. The label is exactly the same. The lack of smell is probably worth it even if it isn't as effective.

Hoppes Elite doesn’t have the ammonia and still does the job very well without the smell that the 9 series has. I use it on my S&W M&P Shield EZ and it has been keeping it nice

Everyone has there preferences (ballistol,CLP, hoppes9 and claims the product they use is the best. Try several and see which one works best for you and your firearm.

I use Hoppe's clean and lube for all my firearms. Always works great. I think CLP is for lazy people who don't properly clean their guns.

The bottle I got from Shooter Lube is not red. The liquid is transparent. Even when the bottle is red, the liquid is colorless. is their FB page.

I mean I'd love for the smaller vet owned company to win, but given how expensive it is, and how little it did I guess I stick to hoppe's. If it did slightly better it would be a different argument but the way they advertised it vs your video... I'd say it must of been pretty doctored for the ad.
It works on pistol slides because the carbon build up is not really stuck on the side. Heavy carbon build up like inside of a AR bolt is a different story.

I just cannot tolerate the smell even in well ventilated areas of Hopps # 9 it just is so intolerable to its almost like I have an allergic reaction I hadn't used Hopps but recently zeroed in a scope so I had to clean my rifle usually I use Break free CLP but had some leftover Hopps and wow the reaction about a half hour later after breathing in the fumes from Hopps I thought I was gonna die I immediately thru it out and set out the buy some Breakthrough Non Toxic stuff and I won't look back Hopps in my book is Death in a bottle
Wow your body really doesn't like the Hopps. I think I've become nose blind to the smell. After I made this video, I've still been using the Shooter Lube. I haven't purchased any more since then but I did find the way it works best for me when cleaning my firearms. I've been thing about order directly from there wed sit and do another video.

I hear good things about a couple of products Breakthrough solvents and Lubes, Go Juice for Lube, and Clenzoil I saw a youtube test on Clenzoil and it had really good protective qualities from corrosion and cleaning but where it really stood out is creates super protective barrier that eliminates wear friction areas like your rails I mean it was head and shoulders better then anything out there only Break Free CLP came close to friction wear I use Break free CLP too but I am not opposed to using a few different products. I will use my Break Free CLP which came in close to Clenzoil but I am going to purchase Breakthrough's products, and Go Juice and Clenzoil

I have nothing against Shooter Lube nor am I trying get people to like Hoppe's. Before this test used Shooter Lube just like everyone else, spray it on my gun wipe it off and it came clean. I loved it, almost stopped using Hoppe's. But I really wanted to know if they where braking down the lead and carbon.
