Since it's using an OLED screen , it's preferred for watching media over the LCD screens. I have a Odyssey plus and use an app called SLR VR (amazing shit look it up) and the OLED screen on my ODY+ makes it very worthwhile .

Not very smart to get 2 same-gen vr sets, Im planning to buy the quest and then wait a few years for the next gen of standalone headsets which might be able to run some pc-games hopefully
For people with the same idea they should sell a bundle with both the Rift S and the Quest but only one set of controllers on a discounted price (I dunno, some $650 - $700?). Options are options.

For people that want to know if they should get the quest I think I know why you should. 1. Comfort: I have a small head and it fits perfect and the controllers are perfect for my hands. 2. Games: The games will keep you busy for a while and even if your internet is bad most games don't need internet anyway. 3. Graphics: The graphics won't matter for anyone entering vr or even if you have been in vr, they are fine.

This is how I feel. My first vr experience was the gearvr with an S7. The graphics were just 'ok'. Im not sure I want to go there again - graphical fidelity is so important to me.

the main problem with play and charge will be internal battery line it'll damage it faster than usual. eventually it will probably never hold a charge properly.
Of course you can the only problem is the depth, the Rift S has this feature where you can provide additional space for the glasses, the Quest doesn't have that feature and it might risk the glass to cratch up with the lenses. You can still wear glasses in it though.

Finally, a fair review. Most vr reviewers are tripping over them self's to defend the quest. "Graphics dont matter, game selection doesn't matter, tracking quality doesn't matter. I'm not tethered and there for it's the best thing since sliced bread! I have no standarts!"
For me the graphics don't matter. The tracking quality isn't terrible. And since I don't have a powerful PC, it's the best choice I could make. So I'm definitely gonna buy the quest. Obviously. There shouldn't even be a review. If you want something portable and you don't have a PC - get the quest. If you gave a strong PC - get the rift
Raven indeed, but I'd like to reiterate that it's not only good graphics vs ok graphics (to each his own) but the availability and comparability of games as well. Game developers will not be able to make certain games for the quest, just not enought power. And once they spend money on the quest and realize that you cant play certain games, they might be upset. Similarly though, when I bought my rift and realized that my mobile gfx card wasn't able to support it, I was a little upset and had to get a dedicated PC for my vr rig. This was before the quest came out, and honestly I might have opted out for the quest (it's just cheaper). But once I got it all working, I couldn't be happier. Happy VRing!
Now that quest link is out what would you recommend? I probably be playing it wired to pc any as I'm looking at that Bone Works and Half Life VR game. Do you notice much with the refresh rate of 72hz 80hz and 90hz?
Keep in mind the quest has more screen door due to the oled panels. Strap is less comfortable but more compatible. Other than that it's pretty sweet especially since if your IPD is incompatible with the S, it's a no brainer due to the IPD adjustment. Then it comes to the question of HTC Vive vs Rift Quest which is a bit of a harder question to answer

Same I've been debating it for days but now that reviews for the link beta are out and seem very positive I think i'm going for the Quest, the IPD can be pretty crucial considering a friend of mine had to return his because he couldn't focus on the rift S at all, show your VR to your friends and family is pretty cool too no doubt some wont have IPD's that fit the VR.

Im getting the quest. I have had my original vive for quite some time and I cannot stress how un-immersive the cords can be. Want to turn 180? Gotta throw a cord. Want to turn 360? Fat chance unless you want to rip a cord out of your PC. Want to play a game that requires constant turning around? Have fun getting untangled from that mess. For me, there are three important things that would make me get a new VR headset: 1. Cordless (as explained before) 2. No exterior cameras (can be a bitch and a half to set up, especially if you want to move it) 3. No headphones required (as far as im concerned, the quest comes with built in headset? Same explanation as before, can be very immersion breaking when your headset falls off.) The oculus quest fits all of these, no way i'm going back to cords.
JMN dares it has to be VR ready if you want to know this download the oculus rift s app and run a test this will tell you what you have and what you need

can you tell a difference between 80hz and 72hz? it seem like a very small difference that you might not even notice?? I know you will notice the difference coming from 90hz or 120hz (psvr) to 72hz though.

For someone using the VR headset for architectural walk throughs and interactions, which headset would be a best first buy? I would have said the Rift S but with the Quest Link, I am not sure. Plus, I have heard that the Quest Link is in early stages and they plan on improving this where the Rift S is pretty much what it is. For architecture, clear graphics and smooth flow are pretty important and we often use larger files with higher poly counts and textures. Thank you for any help.

@@meowmix705 There's no IPD adjustment on the Go and the same applies to the rift S, and it is a LCD panel rather than OLED. Personally I would not be happy to use the same display and lens of the Oculus Go on the Rift S.
@@theduckyt9357 It's pretty good for UA-cam. I agree, the games suck, and it is no where near as impressive as my oculus rift. The optics are an improvement, not sure about the LCD display. Not good in dark scenes and possibly not as bright as OLED. If the oculus rift s shares the same panel then I would be a little disappointed.
I want the Quest but the needing a well lit room is really putting me off, yes I could turn on the light but playing in the dark adds to the experience. I use my Oculus go in the evenings and often find its dark when I take it off, will the tracking start to fail as the sun goes down? whats the point in the Oled blacks if light leakage breaks the illusion?
The oculus quest for sure more affordable easy to use. Has almost same features as the Rift S. My Kid asked for the Quest two.This helps greatly for a smart informed purchase great tutorial.
The oculus quest fits best for me because it is a standalone. The rift S needs to be plugged in my computer, which idk if it is strong enough. Plus i don't have enough space for the rift S where i have my pc.
I sold my rift s for an quest and i.must say the difference ia pretty significant. The pannel difference is pretty small even though the quest has a more noticable screendoor effect but there is just no comparison in comfort. The rift s is way more comfortable and its way easier to hit the viewing sweetspot. Thats a huge difference if you trying to read or aim trough a scope. I used the rift s for 5h to play half life alyx without an issue but i have to put down the quest every 30 min because wearing hurts for long periods. Link is also not as good as everyone says, your hands feel like rubber while usesing it due to input delay. Honestly the rift is just a way better system if you cant wait till the gen 2. The game selection is also very limited for an $450 system
For all of you that don't know wich one you want, Oculus is Launching Oculus Link, an update that will make Oculus Quest compatible with your PC powered VR games. You will be able to play Quest standalone and use your rig with a USB C cable, so, if you are not worried about the 72 fps, you should buy Quest instead of Rift S
Since I got my first oculus (oculus go) I will never switch to any other company ever. The innovation in the go shocked me so hard, like many of you, my first vr headset was a phone cardboard without a controller and 3 years ago there were only phone cardboard or you had a lot of money and picked up a HTC vive. But there was no big provider who made standalone VR headsets. So I instantly picked up the go and a few months later I got my quest, and I can tell you I'm never going to switch to wired headsets ever again. The capabilities the quest has are so massive, I can play my favorite VR Games and pc VR games with just a USB cable connected to my pc. Awesome!
Which version of the Quest are you guys getting? The 64 or 128 GB one? Sure extra $100 hurts making it $500. I went to the $250 64 GB Go instead of the $200 32 GB and I kinda regreat it cuz it was not necesary after all. But it was just $50 that time. Now Quest games must be bigger I suppose.
With Oculus Link now being a thing, I'd recommend buying the Quest. My experience with the Rift S was not good at all. There's tons of software, and hardware issues. I just can't recommend it.

Try contacts I switched 3 years ago. A little getting used to but they’re great. Still keep your glasses around for when contacts are hard to wear that day

I’m still trying to figure out how the Rift S IP adjustment works without a mechanical adjuster. How can you line up the sweet spot of the fresnel lenses digitally? Does the Rift S have a larger sweet spot?

You mentioned the quest doesn’t accommodate for glasses but it does it includes a plastics spacers that you can put in between the padding and the headset which makes a gap big enough for use with glasses
They should have been the same thing. All in one Vr with 90hz refresh and connectable to PC for pcvr applications and quality. If they did that then it would have been a hit but as they are they are just more of the same. GG try again oculus.
That wouldn't be as easy as you think, the Quest has an on board computer, and doesn't leave much room for a connector port to a pc, since the rift s doesn't have this on board computer, there's a lot more room in the headset, which allows for a connector port, and also room for another tracking camera

I've always wanted a VR headset but since I dont have a PC I've never been able to get one, but now that we have the Oculus Quest it's a dream come true
I'm excited about wireless and standalone VR-Headsets, but the Quest is just too limited momentarily in my opinion. I will wait and see how this develops.

This is how I feel. My first vr experience was the gearvr with an S7. The graphics were just 'ok'. Im not sure I want to go there again - graphical fidelity is so important to me.

the main problem with play and charge will be internal battery line it'll damage it faster than usual. eventually it will probably never hold a charge properly.

You can wear glasses in the Oculus Quest. It has been mentioned the first time if the specs in the Oculus Quest
Of course you can the only problem is the depth, the Rift S has this feature where you can provide additional space for the glasses, the Quest doesn't have that feature and it might risk the glass to cratch up with the lenses. You can still wear glasses in it though.

Finally, a fair review. Most vr reviewers are tripping over them self's to defend the quest. "Graphics dont matter, game selection doesn't matter, tracking quality doesn't matter. I'm not tethered and there for it's the best thing since sliced bread! I have no standarts!"
For me the graphics don't matter. The tracking quality isn't terrible. And since I don't have a powerful PC, it's the best choice I could make. So I'm definitely gonna buy the quest. Obviously.
There shouldn't even be a review. If you want something portable and you don't have a PC - get the quest.

Raven indeed, but I'd like to reiterate that it's not only good graphics vs ok graphics (to each his own) but the availability and comparability of games as well. Game developers will not be able to make certain games for the quest, just not enought power. And once they spend money on the quest and realize that you cant play certain games, they might be upset. Similarly though, when I bought my rift and realized that my mobile gfx card wasn't able to support it, I was a little upset and had to get a dedicated PC for my vr rig. This was before the quest came out, and honestly I might have opted out for the quest (it's just cheaper). But once I got it all working, I couldn't be happier. Happy VRing!

Keep in mind the quest has more screen door due to the oled panels. Strap is less comfortable but more compatible. Other than that it's pretty sweet especially since if your IPD is incompatible with the S, it's a no brainer due to the IPD adjustment.
Then it comes to the question of HTC Vive vs Rift Quest which is a bit of a harder question to answer

Same I've been debating it for days but now that reviews for the link beta are out and seem very positive I think i'm going for the Quest, the IPD can be pretty crucial considering a friend of mine had to return his because he couldn't focus on the rift S at all, show your VR to your friends and family is pretty cool too no doubt some wont have IPD's that fit the VR.

Im getting the quest. I have had my original vive for quite some time and I cannot stress how un-immersive the cords can be. Want to turn 180? Gotta throw a cord. Want to turn 360? Fat chance unless you want to rip a cord out of your PC. Want to play a game that requires constant turning around? Have fun getting untangled from that mess.
For me, there are three important things that would make me get a new VR headset:
1. Cordless (as explained before)
2. No exterior cameras (can be a bitch and a half to set up, especially if you want to move it)
3. No headphones required (as far as im concerned, the quest comes with built in headset? Same explanation as before, can be very immersion breaking when your headset falls off.)
The oculus quest fits all of these, no way i'm going back to cords.

can you tell a difference between 80hz and 72hz? it seem like a very small difference that you might not even notice?? I know you will notice the difference coming from 90hz or 120hz (psvr) to 72hz though.

For someone using the VR headset for architectural walk throughs and interactions, which headset would be a best first buy? I would have said the Rift S but with the Quest Link, I am not sure. Plus, I have heard that the Quest Link is in early stages and they plan on improving this where the Rift S is pretty much what it is. For architecture, clear graphics and smooth flow are pretty important and we often use larger files with higher poly counts and textures. Thank you for any help.

@@meowmix705 There's no IPD adjustment on the Go and the same applies to the rift S, and it is a LCD panel rather than OLED. Personally I would not be happy to use the same display and lens of the Oculus Go on the Rift S.
I bought the go a while back and I certainly think that it’s best use is for watching UA-cam / Netflix in VR. Not so good for games.
@@theduckyt9357 It's pretty good for UA-cam. I agree, the games suck, and it is no where near as impressive as my oculus rift. The optics are an improvement, not sure about the LCD display. Not good in dark scenes and possibly not as bright as OLED. If the oculus rift s shares the same panel then I would be a little disappointed.
I want the Quest but the needing a well lit room is really putting me off, yes I could turn on the light but playing in the dark adds to the experience. I use my Oculus go in the evenings and often find its dark when I take it off, will the tracking start to fail as the sun goes down? whats the point in the Oled blacks if light leakage breaks the illusion?
The oculus quest for sure more affordable easy to use. Has almost same features as the Rift S. My Kid asked for the Quest two.This helps greatly for a smart informed purchase great tutorial.
The oculus quest fits best for me because it is a standalone. The rift S needs to be plugged in my computer, which idk if it is strong enough. Plus i don't have enough space for the rift S where i have my pc.
I sold my rift s for an quest and i.must say the difference ia pretty significant. The pannel difference is pretty small even though the quest has a more noticable screendoor effect but there is just no comparison in comfort. The rift s is way more comfortable and its way easier to hit the viewing sweetspot. Thats a huge difference if you trying to read or aim trough a scope. I used the rift s for 5h to play half life alyx without an issue but i have to put down the quest every 30 min because wearing hurts for long periods. Link is also not as good as everyone says, your hands feel like rubber while usesing it due to input delay. Honestly the rift is just a way better system if you cant wait till the gen 2. The game selection is also very limited for an $450 system
For all of you that don't know wich one you want, Oculus is Launching Oculus Link, an update that will make Oculus Quest compatible with your PC powered VR games. You will be able to play Quest standalone and use your rig with a USB C cable, so, if you are not worried about the 72 fps, you should buy Quest instead of Rift S

Since I got my first oculus (oculus go) I will never switch to any other company ever. The innovation in the go shocked me so hard, like many of you, my first vr headset was a phone cardboard without a controller and 3 years ago there were only phone cardboard or you had a lot of money and picked up a HTC vive. But there was no big provider who made standalone VR headsets. So I instantly picked up the go and a few months later I got my quest, and I can tell you I'm never going to switch to wired headsets ever again. The capabilities the quest has are so massive, I can play my favorite VR Games and pc VR games with just a USB cable connected to my pc. Awesome!
Which version of the Quest are you guys getting? The 64 or 128 GB one? Sure extra $100 hurts making it $500. I went to the $250 64 GB Go instead of the $200 32 GB and I kinda regreat it cuz it was not necesary after all. But it was just $50 that time. Now Quest games must be bigger I suppose.

With Oculus Link now being a thing, I'd recommend buying the Quest. My experience with the Rift S was not good at all. There's tons of software, and hardware issues. I just can't recommend it.

Try contacts I switched 3 years ago. A little getting used to but they’re great. Still keep your glasses around for when contacts are hard to wear that day

You mentioned the quest doesn’t accommodate for glasses but it does it includes a plastics spacers that you can put in between the padding and the headset which makes a gap big enough for use with glasses

That wouldn't be as easy as you think, the Quest has an on board computer, and doesn't leave much room for a connector port to a pc, since the rift s doesn't have this on board computer, there's a lot more room in the headset, which allows for a connector port, and also room for another tracking camera
