This has got to be one of best guitar stories of all time.
What a great man. He truly deserves to be recognised as a guitar great. He does it right!
it's a strange phenomenon - why is Wilko such a charming, charismatic, lovable guy? Even my French friend who can't understand his English say "ah lurve zis personne !!"
What a hilarious guy, long live Wilko!
Wilko plays his Tele with conviction, he is a treasure.
His black tele was bought later..the original ´Irene´tele was kept at home during the feelgood years..
My brother's friend P. Lee who went to school with Wilko was given a Wilkinson guitar from Wilko. The guitar is still around...
Great story, great guitarist, great bloke.
What a great story teller you really are!
Just finished his book. Hero.
what a lovely talented guy
Great guy, superb player.
Wilco is Wonderful!!!! I could listen to his storys forever!!! And he plays a bit of guitar as well! To anyone who's ever looked at a guitar in a shop window and Dreamed ( I've been there!) This Tale brings a tear to the eye and warmth to the Heart!
I'm a bass player by trade but in secret I play my telecaster because of Wilko there you go.....
RIP to a legend
What a legend. Superb story.
Wonderful story from a wonderful man …
The likes of him will never be seen again.x
He's still alive you know. I'm going to see him when the pandy's over.
@@nodiggity9472 Pandy? Rona? Quar?
@@AndreaAustoni Yah.
Wonderful life story. Put aside your own aspirations to invest in another persons dream.
Without probably never knowing, your gift is the catalyst for great success .
Irene married him.
Great story...
What a great bloke.
Awesome story! What a mom
Won't do for her kid! Looks like it paid off! Even though he never paid her back the 60 quid!
BrazosP Irene was his girlfriend at the time, not his Mum. 😏
@@jamesy1955. Whoops ! ?
As it turned out it was a marriage made in heaven.
I don't know why Wilko Johnson is popping up on my feed all the time these days - but I'm not against it.
Paying for stuff like that was called 'lay away', a decent way of doing business that's pretty much gone now. It could all have been so different of he'd spotted the photos of Mick with a Gibson SG....
BackToTheBlues SGs are far superior. 😏
Interestingly Mick’s guitar before the Telecaster was a cherry double cut Les Paul Jnr - pictured in some early promo shots.
@@WillyKidd I remember that one.
thanks good....for dont take the gibson guitar...and buy the dream telecaster....
What is the name of Wilko's accent?
It's called the 'Estuary English' accent. It's the accent associated with people who live along the River Thames. It's a lot like a London, Cockney accent really.
Thank you so much :-)
He's being really self depreciating here. He may not have paid his girlfriend back the cash, but he did marry her, so I'm sure she done well out of the deal. I can't imagine it happening these days, now I think women would just leave and go for the man with the telecaster already, and then she'd end up with a guy with a fraction of the loyalty. Great video, but thinking of the state of male and female relations these days, set to compete against each other instead of extenuating each other, it's a shame.
Was his mum mate
Wilco so right and the best telecaster guitarist I know is Andy Summer of the police
