  • Merry Christmas everyone! Come along for a drive through Toronto with me to another tight jobsite. Requiring splitting the trains and backing down a long pathway to the jobsite! At the end of the day I'm pulled over by MTO, see if I survive!

Merry Christmas. I’m not a trucker myself but I had the opportunity to do 10 hours training on a Kenworth Semi with an Eaton Fuller 13 or 18 speed transmission (can’t recall which) and that little bit of training gave me an even greater respect for what truckers do. You make it look easy, especially with all the challenges driving in downtown Toronto. I drive a shuttle bus downtown Toronto and if I ever get the chance to meet you, coffees on me. Have a great Christmas and New Years.

The "oh crap" moment you had at 9:15 is the new intersection at Roncasvalles and you caught it during a good time, usually it's a clusterf**k, the new and super confusing traffic lights have been creating big jams since they were installed.
Also, Merry Christmas! Once again you've gone through my hood and one of these days I'll catch you and say hey. :)

51:00 that's exactly my experience with cars. Expect I drive a traktor with a 12 tonne trailer on narrow curvy roads. You would be surprised how many people want to push me off the road or do a similar takeover just to turn down within 100 m.

I feel your pain about the drivers in downtown Toronto. I laughed a little when you said “go around, what are you doing?” Cause I’ve said that many times myself. I also have people rush to get in front of my bus, only to turn left or right in front of me, making me miss a light. I’m on a 15 minute shuttle schedule, so missing a light can make me late.

That job site is one of the reasons I’m thankful I drive a Daf and a cabover. Already tricky enough with the general size of being a semi, so having a little extra room by not having a big hood in front helps.

I drive a lot for work, not a truck, just a regular van. What I find incredibly impressive about you truckers is your relaxed and very foresighted driving style. You all drive sensibly. That's what I love about your videos! You stay relaxed, even in Toronto. Since I've been driving my van with the same attitude, I've been coping much better. Every car driver should drive as cool and as foresighted as you truck drivers. Everything would be much more relaxed and we'd hardly have any traffic accidents! 😊

"Just following orders" or "just doing my job" are not excuses for perpetuating the evil deeds of the people/institutions they serve. Maybe a bit of an overreaction but I'm truly fed up with government here in the states and Canada is even worse off, imo.

Shit, some days even a dump truck can be challenging enough. Lol! I run a tri-axle in Ottawa and days I get sent downtown (not to mention some of the actual jobsites we get sent to as well) is enough to make a grown man weep. Lol. Between entitled pedestrians with their noses in their phones, summer construction, closed streets, detours, no truck routes, one ways, it can be challenging enough. You definitely want to plan your route ahead of time or you just might find yourself on a one way trip across the bridges into the next damn province. And I don't speak or read french worth a damn despite my french name! Lol! It's enough to give me an anxiety attack some days! Especially, if there is some kind of event taking place downtown. Don't get me started on rush hour on a Friday afternoon. And it doesn't help things much that our infrastructure is a crumbling mess either. Some days I can barely get out of my truck after bouncing around in my seat all day long. Some of these streets are akin to old wagon trails even if you DO have an air ride suspension.

What's it like driving a truck like this? Are you constantly stressed about timing for delivery, or do they give you some leeway for traffic, accidents, etc? Don't worry; you're not the only one who hates driving in Toronto. I don't think we employ city planners at this point; whoever has the money to build a condo gets approved.

Love the videos. Used to drive a straight truck through downtown Toronto for a summer job. Can't imagine driving what you do. Way to make it look easy.

Funny how I started watching your videos earlier this year and thought to myself, "man it would be fun to be a truck driver". Even looked into what it would take to switch careers and found a local flatbed place. But the more I watch your videos, the more I'm like, "there's no way I would want to drive a truck surrounded about all these idiotic drivers".
I commute on a motorcycle almost daily and take a lot of trips on it too. It's dangerous enough dealing with car drivers on a bike, but at least I have the speed and agility to avoid their stupidity most of the time. In a truck, seems like there's nothing you can really do about it.

I'm watching vids like those from callthemall and ditched my engineering carrier to become a truck driver which I'm now. I never looked back :)) (driving logs from the forests out of nowhere in the middle of the Alps in Europe) ^^

Your camera gives such a claustrophobic view, I kept thinking you were gonna hit stuff, made me nervous on those downtown streets. And funny, I thought I recognized the road, I used to live at Bloor and Dundas St. W.

Etobicoke is my home. Dundas area would be tough for trucks. Hope it went well

Man, some days it seems like every single dingbat on the road congregates right in the exact areas you are running in... Just a fun obstacle course to be navigated, testing your patience... Merry Christmas and happy new year to you, Matt!

This is very interesting to watch because I work at that job site sometimes, they're building a new station at strachan right out of union, and adding a 4th track , my job is as you said "signalman" but its called "flagman" protecting the train movements and construction machinery/workers! Rule is all machines have to stop when the train is within a certain distance usually 3-5 miles if that equipment is within 13ft of the nearest live track. OBVIOUSLY thats not happening in this video so don't let Metrolinx find out lmfaooo

Hauled mass gross into Toronto for years. Moved to Sudbury and hauled ore for the mines for the last 5 years. Offered a job operating a Haul Truck underground, Hanging up the keys, end of my trucking career at 33. Trucking is a joke at this point, certainly not a career for me, 10 years was enough.

I drive one of them big IC International school buses and sometimes in downtown Toronto doing trips and it's tight so I give my hats off to you truckers. 50:50 you sound just like me there when people cut up your inside just to get in front of you to turn haha. Way too often I have that happen to me as well so that gave me a good laugh too. 😅🤣
