Doug, I am impressed with your skills in every video ! My only experiance with wide loads was with the reserves. I had to haul a cat d-7 bull dozer near camp gagetown in new brunswick. Canadian forces and the militia were very helpful and welcoming ! Stay safe out there !!

Oh the challenge of over dimensional loads, Insee I’m not the only one using the clutch. Spent many a mile looking over the hood of the Peterbilt, like the old type hoods with all the rivets in them. You’re going to love that truck, it is finished just about the way I would make it. Cheers my friend and as always thanks for the ride.
When I drive Quebec-Toronto at night, I tend to drive through Mtl around 4AM. There's often a little fog/mist in the air. Due to the insane amount of constant constructions in Montreal, the whole area reflects orange in the air. You see if well before to enter the zones. Just an orange fog all around as you drive through!
You driving with your dog and the escort kinda reminds me of an old movie called SMOKEY and the BANDIT, but that was a comedy and your job is extremely serious and dangerous

That is pretty much every city in North America. It's better but often still not good. Here in Austin it just means they have a lane closed for construction.
@@powerdude4e i was saying that in the context that there is a ton of roads on repair now in montreal and most of the main access in out the city are under intensive repairs and it should still be like that for a few years. normally, in mtl you can expect that anywhere outside 6am-6pm will be good for traffic (and even somedays between 11am-3pm)
We try to take into consideration the length of the load as well as the kinds of roads we will be taking. And the number of articulation points. The same length truck will turn better with more articulation points

Yiu did pick-up the reel in Varennes to bringing up to somewhere in St.-hubert and now call Longueuil. You are a pretty good driver. However there is some undisciplined drivers in our province of Québec. Just reel itself weighs 57,5 tons you imagine if it is getting out of your trailer people do not realize how they could be kill and crush in their own car by that reel.
This is interesting. So in Germany where i come from, those kind of oversized loads are only allowed during the nighttime. Couse of traffic, they don`t want us to slow down traffic during rush hour times. I think this would not work over there right..?
We are (usually) prohibited from driving at night and during rush hours. However some big cities such as New York City have their own rules that we can ONLY drive at night. So you drive up to the city limit during the daytime and enter the city at night.
As a European who immigrated here in Canada 19 years ago, I am still confused about that LOL. The Canadians are very split in their systems. Temperature of the weather in Celcius but while baking in Fahrenheit. Speedlimits on the road in KM per hour but distances in miles. Weights in pounds and fuel filled at the pump in liters but most often liquids in imperial gallons. Building stuff in inches and feet.🤪🤯

How do you feel about otr box truck drivers. I drove a 24ft box truck. When I was on the road I was kind enough to give up my spot for tractor-trailers but was hard to find parking elsewhere because I was considered a commercial vehicle. I feel that truck stops should be more accommodating but I live in Virginia and in my area there are only three and you will pay for parking.

Planning on making the least amount of changes to this truck $$$!!! Cat scales are helpful but they won’t get you out of a ticket because they are easily manipulated. For instance you can just leave a set of wheels off the cat scale and voila your total weight is less!
Is the Peterbuilt providing all that you expected/needed in comparison to the company trucks provided by your employer? Nice color scheme. Don’t use the company colors even though they are nice to look at.
The front pilot vehicle has a flexible pole mounted on the front bumper that is raised to a height of a few inches above the height of the load so if pole comes in contact with an object such a traffic light, electrical wires or bridge that the semi driver will have warning to stop before load comes into contact with lower clearance object.
What is your total gross weight with everything load included? I admire your truck it's beautiful what is the longest wheel bass your allowed in Canada. The last company I drove for it was 244 we were told. But I have heard that you can get an over length permit for your truck, but I don't know how true that is. If it is what is the length you can have for your wheelbase for your truck with that permit. And I'm talking tractor only.
I take it double clutching is your preference for shifting. In your transmission is there any extra low gearing to handle the demands of the heavy haul loads you do?
This truck is running 3.70 rears which is medium duty. I would’ve preferred slightly lower like 3.90 but beggars can’t be choosers when looking at used equipment

For refference I'm guessing your're relating to Bruce Wilson's new demo truck.. Would be fun seeing a colab with him to see how the cabover would work on the longer loads. It’s funny that if you look at photos of trucking from North America in the 90’s cabovers were very popular. However we’ve gone back to the conventional style 🤷🏼♂️ although not all with hoods as long as a peterbilt 389

@@tasker6669 If I remember correctly what the video showed, Bruce had lots of trouble, mostly at the US/Can border. Eventually, he had to declare that it was a personal vehicle and that it would not be used for commerce. Correct me if I'm wrong.
