    Today I take a crack at building my first turbo intercooler. Just a guy in a garage building an aluminum intercooler for the first time. The usual.

    This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned.

    Nice job Michael. Cut some cardboard templates and tape them to the intercooler fins to protect them whilst working on it. 👌🏾

    back when I had a subaru STI, i fixed the fins in the intercooler with a pair of tweezer. it was tedius and i swore I'd never do it again. But it worked and the intercooler looked much better and I'm sure it flowed air better. I had to fix about 70% of my fins. yours doesn't look too bad so it won't be nearly as bad as what i had to deal with.

    If you need to rip aluminum plate just use woodworking tools. Regular tablesaw would make those cuts easy and accurately.

    Clamp that piece of wood (at least it looks like a piece of wood) to the bandsaw table as a fence to guide the aluminium sheet rather than free-handing it. Someone else also advised that a table saw with a regular wood-ripping blade would work well.

    • @rennch.
      @rennch.  Місяць тому

      I tried that before I started the video. The problem was the blade was not square so it kept wandering on me, so I had to do it freehand.

    You could have just clamped straight edge on the bandsaw table

      I tried that first but the blade was not square and it wandered.

    Great video, great work on the entire blasphemy build.
    What is your plan for an engine on the Gray Ghost? Sold my 83SC with a 993 Varioram, and hate myself for that.

    Why don’t you just design it in CAD and get it laser cut from Send Cut Send ?
    It’s ridiculous cheap, like about same price as buying raw aluminum sheet .

    • @rennch.
      @rennch.  Місяць тому +1

      Because the whole point of my channel is to show people how to do things with hand tools if possible, so for this one I wanted to show the "from scratch" version.

    • @AndySomogyi
      @AndySomogyi Місяць тому

      @@rennch. that would cost about $40 or so from send cut send, that’s a lot cheaper than buying a bandsaw .

    • @rennch.
      @rennch.  Місяць тому

      @AndySomogyi Andy, they are a sponsor of the channel. I could've gotten it for free. I did not do that intentionally because I didn't want this show to be about designing things in CAD.

      @@rennch. Im glad the question was asked, the whole video I was thinking why not use SCS. I appreciate your answer as well, though I think you could make an argument that cad is part of the workflow for home mechanics too at this point. Love the content, Love seeing this build progress.
