  • Today I make an attempt to TIG weld some turbo oil scavenge tanks. It doesn't go well. Then our friend @cruzinfinity_fab stops by and things get better. Mostly.

This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned.

You are really starting to get the hang of Aluminium welding. It is totally different from steel, but it is satisfying when it starts coming together.

I have almost zero welding experience and I have an old 70s style inverter stick welder so - you are light years ahead of me. Good job man.

Keep at it Mike - every failure is a lesson (don't you hate hearing that) and you learn by it.

Mike you have to find the sweet spot with your balance. start with 70/30 and you want the puddle to have the consistency of honey not water you need to control it . The material is new so you don’t need a lot of cleaning action. You just have to concentrate on the penetration. That’s the 70 you can go up or down depending on the puddle. Next on the fittings to tube adjust the hertz to 60 you want a wide puddle, on the end caps try you hertz at 120 or 180 you want a narrow puddle, you can do it you just need some more practice.

We've all been there. Aluminum is so much different from steel. I'm very much a beginner (been Tig welding for about 9 months now), but I've had much better luck with smaller cups on aluminum. I use a stubby gas lens, but I have been sticking with a #6. Something about how it limits/focuses the cleaning action of AC welding. Nice work though!

A #5 stubby cup will work better than fupa 12 or a standard #5 cup ......n

Hi there. Looking great... but please!!!! Don't have very easy burning fluid near you when you are welding. Please don't!! In a metal shop what I was an apprentice an old welder had paint thinner in a metal can with a lid on. He was welding and somehow touched the can with the tip of the mig. Still being hot, burned through the can. 2 liters of highly flammable fluid ignited, and he got roasted. Died two days later in the hospital. True story. 😢 so please don't weld near higly flammable fluids!!! Stay safe.
Sorry for my story its over 25 years since but I stil remember it like yesterday.
