- In this video, I install the radiator and new hoses in a 1968 CASE 580CK tractor. The radiator lower hose is particularily difficult to install, but I give tips on how to make it easier. Once that's done I complete the install with a flush and fill of new coolant. Come along to see how it's done!

Your videos are a huge help. I inherited my father in laws 580 CK it's a learning experience for sure. Question, my lower hose is leaking. It is not possible to replace it without pulling the radiator correct? Seems like there is zero space to do anything.
I showed the lower hose replacement between 1:45 and 3:30. It's tough to do but it can be done. Just loosen the radiator so you can lift it a few inches. Take the top hose off too. Good luck!
@EverydayProjects ok awesome. So you think I can do it without pulling the fan and water pump?
@@rhodeislandfirearmsownersl9916 Yes, just watch how I did it. I think you can lift the radiator enough without having to remove the fan. Maybe put a thin piece of plywood between fan and radiator to keep from damaging the rad.
I replaced the radiator in my 68 Case backhoe, that lower hose was a nightmare, not that the rest of the job was a walk in the park but I did use a little trick with the water pump. Put the pulley on and use a piece of all thread to line up the holes then slide the fan into place over the piece of all thread. Put the other 3 bolts into place and remove the all thread to place the last bolt. :)
Great tip. I’ll use that sometime. Yes, that bottom hose was tough. Thanks for watching!
I noticed you are have the transmission oil cooler blocked off, are you not going to use it?
All the steel lines leading to various components on the tractor were rusted through. This tractor sat unattended in a field for more than 15 years before I picked it up and the climate here is wet and damp, most of the year except the summer. Things rust out just sitting. I put a short by-pass hydraulic hose on the discharge from the transmission straight back into it for now, just to be able to start the engine. I will eventually put an auxilliary cooler and the factory filter back inside the grill area. Good eye on noticing that. Thanks for watching!
Taking the front of my tractor apart... My water pump leaks terribly. How does the plate in front of the pump come off? Seems like the bolts on the side are structural... do I need to support anything if those are the ones?
TIA if you see this!
I've never taken that frame off. If you remove the radiator, the water pump should be easily changed. Then again, maybe you can pull the water pump with the radiator in...but it would be a tight spot to maneuver the pump.
Why do you need a thermostat it has no heat can’t you just let it free flow so it doesn’t overheat??
Engines run best at certain temperatures. If it didn’t have a thermostat, it could over cool and not run as efficiently. Remember, diesels are compression-ignition engines and work best when hot.
Hi everyday. Enjoying these videos. Just started getting into a 1960 case ck. You seem to know more about these than us. Is there anyway for you to record a couple close ups for us of a couple things? Is there a way we could dm? Are you on insta? I'd like to send you a couple pictures.
What parts of the tractor are you interested in seeing? I can make a short video and post it here on UA-cam. Thanks for watching!
Not too long now eh?
We'll get it started sometime in the next month, hopefully.
Wow that's a crappy enginenearing design I have the 580d and have plenty of room
That water pump pully cost new 160 dollors used is 75
Yes, a tight squeeze by anyone's measure. These tractors were going through their transformation from farm tractor to backhoe looks in the late 60's (this is a 1968) and a lot of bad, earlier designs were still in the tractors. It wasn't until CASE made a separate crew cabin and redesigned the overall looks that these 1930 era engineering mistakes were corrected. Have you thought to bookmark my channel?
