I am doing a road trip from NYC to Montreal Canada this upcoming weekend. I will not have cell service while in Canada so I dusted off my families old nuvi, updated it to 2024 version maps! Your videos have been extremely helpful to me and I have decided to always drive with this GPS now!
Had a 2597LMT, stopped showing local streets , updated, installed maps, increased SD Card capacity cause internal memory was full, etc........... nothing solved my problems. Had it for about 11 years, I liked it. So I purchased drivesmart 66 , it works the same way with some extras. I like it.
I am glad to hear that you are happy with your new unit, but you can still revive your old 2597LMT using Garmin WebUpdater.exe instead of Garmin Express.

Very informative, thank you. I just purchased this model. This is my third garmin. It’s much more reliable and has options. Nice to know you also use it as well. I know people has said just use your phone for maps. Garmin uses GPS satellites as a good backup.
I think it has to do with the version of Main board it has inside, because I had one with the older flat kind of graphics and no matter how many updates I installed it wouldn't update to 3D icons.
I was trying to find out how to get "arrival time" to display on my Garmin Nuvi but this was not covered. Nor is it covered in the "Garmin Nuvi 2597Lmt Owners Manual" dated 2014-12-11. It's a feature I loved about the Garmin but was lost about 8 years ago and I couldn't find out how to get it back. I got a clue when you mentioned about clicking on the "N" symbol to select "Elevation". It would have been good to show what other options were available.
Thanks, that problem is usually caused by a Bad USB port on the Garmin GPS, or a defective cable. I do have videos on how to repair the loose USB Ports on Garmin devices.
P.S. It was doing ok on the way up, but on the way back the screen turned black,. I had to switch it back on. After a while, it turned off again. Thank you very much for your input!
@@CHI-ts2dk I will try to get my hands on a Garmin Drive 51 EX to see what the cause it and then make a video on that. Meanwhile, try to do a software update to see if that will fix it.
One thing you need to know and I found out is - you will have to update you version of Garmin Express to the latest version. I put my new 2597 LMT on my laptop but my old version of Garmin Express said it was up to date, but the map detail told me differently. It said 2014. After I updated Garmin Express it downloaded the soft wear and map updates like it should. My map detail now reads 2022.10, the latest update for the 2597.
Yes I always update my Garmin Express when it prompts me to do so. However I don't like Garmin Express because it forces you to register the device. So I use Garmin Web Updater, and Garmin Map Updater instead.
@@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 the seller on EBay stiffed me. He swapped the traffic antenna power cable for a standard nuvi power cable. He probably sold the traffic cable to someone else and gave me an$8 cable. I will not do business with. Him, again. I will get the right cable for it. It is only $25.
@@johnclarke6647 For Garmin Nuvi 2597LMT you don't need a traffic cable, you need a traffic antenna cable such as TA10 and TA20. The Nuvi 2597LMT has a built-in Traffic Receiver so it only needs an antenna, not a complete receiver.

It said the same thing when I updated my 50 LM and it took less than 30 minutes. The older version of Garmin Express took about 45 minutes to update my 50 LM.

Battery life, Map coverage, and Operating System Garmin Nuvi is older technology whereas Garmin Drive and Garmin DriveSmart are much newer. However the battery life on the Nuvi is much longer, and it had more Map Coverage since the older maps wouldn't take too much space. Depends where you live, and which option has better coverage. In most cases the FM Traffic receive has better coverage, because in rural areas you will have no cellular coverage.

Hi this will only connect to a Phone, not to a Bluetooth speaker or headset. The only Garmin Devices that do connect to a Bluetooth headsets are the Garmin ZUMO Motorcycle GPS units

I charge my 2597 with the original garmin TA20. And almost everyday it gives me a notification that the cable does not support traffic and traffic is disabled, however when I click on OK, and go to traffic settings, it shows me traffic just fine. why? and what is the fix?
@@m.d.taverner616 This happens when you plug the power cord in after the GPS is ON. You should turn off the GPS and plug the cable in and let the cable power ON the GPS. The reason is that the GPS needs a few seconds to sense the cable traffic compatibility and sometimes the message appears before the GPS has fully detected the cable type. If the GPS is in OFF mode when you plug in the cable, it has enough time to sense the cable type during the bootup.
And now, 3 years later, Garmin released an update that disabled the internal traffic system. Blames everything other than them not releasing an update that lets the internal traffic system work. Get the app they say, oh yeah, the one that tracks everything you do including your social media. Hmmmm
Never use Garmin Express for updates, instead use Garmin Webupdater.exe where you can cherry pick the updates and deselect the ones that leads to issues.

True or False: Depending on what nuvi 2597 you have, some menus look a little different. For example: ua-cam.com/video/WslJBcMdk2w/v-deo.html. Here when you see the gps on the bottom (not the 2555) it has that speedometer. Mine has the same as his but your 2597 has a completely different speedometer. Same with my voice command menu vs yours (both of ours is on the 2597. Why is that? Most importantly, great video!
Hi, yes not only Garmin Nuvi 2597, but many other models of Garmin GPS have different graphical user interfaces depending on the version of firmware, and mainboard they have. The menus and icons are customizable to a certain extent but not totally. Great tutorial, but you forgot to mention that some models (Drive 51 EX for instance) will shut off while driving.

Walikumsalaam brother, you need to have the Garmin Red-light and Speed Camera Warning File to get the those Icons available.

Should I get traffic info from Garmin SmartPhone Link or through the TA Cables FM receiver?

Unfortunately it only supports the Garmin camera.

You can use either the TA20 or TA10 cables

It depends on the version of each one. Even two identical model numbers of Garmin GPS could have different mainboards and LCD Displays.
