    I have been waiting for a motor like this, something that is super light with a light battery that you don't have to kill yourself carrying it, and still have a lot of power to take you where you need to be or take you back home safely. Enter Bixpy, I first heard of Bixpy a while ago and I said, wow for the price sign me up! but I wanted to test it first, do a real life demo, with horrible weather conditions. The motor performed well, you don't realize how well is performing and how much energy it is saving you until you look behind and your friends are fighting the waves, wind and current just to keep pace with you while you are just trolling, or relaxing.

      Awesome idea, but know the law in your area... In some states, a canoe, kayak or paddleboard becomes a "motor-boat" if any type of motor is used, and it becomes subject to additional licenses and permits. It may also be prohibited on some public waters.

      Simple register for a small annual fee, in FL is $26,and since this is an electric tiny motor I can go pretty much on any water

      The motor itself ie about $400 very comparable to a trolling motor, the issue is the lithium battery, check the prices for those

      Aliex Fishing TV the big battery and trolling motor is definitely a heavy set up for kayaks, don't use it too often for that reason. Hopefully the price drops down a bit eventually. I would invest in one then.

    Not to knock the bixby motor but I'm not sure I'd purchase one now after seeing this video. I was really excited about it but I feel sorta let down now.... Guess it didnt meet my expectatioms of speed. I really like the idea of jet propulsion and all the technology and diversity of this motor to fit virtually any kayak. I believe that's the future of motorized kayaking. That sounds oxymoronic lol. It's perfect for us kayakers , lightweight and the battery tech is great! But it seems to me it lacks power. Yes I know it was windy and choppy but 3mph isn't what I'd expect from something in this price range. Plus, i wonder the longevity of these things?? What do they cost to repair? I've been building trolling motors for years for Hobie's and sold a ton. They're simple, powerful and long lasting. As the years go by, I've realized the simpler things are on a kayak, the better. My motor cost less than half the price of this thing and imo performs the same if not better. If anyone is interested and wants to know more about my motors, check out my UA-cam channel or you can visit my website if you want. Not trying to spam up your comment section buddy haha. Just helping fellow Hobie owners by giving them options. Congrats on your purchase and I hope you catch some biggons!! You guys take care and be safe. Cmon!!

    If your boat has a motor, does it have to be registered. Numbers on the side of your paddle board or kayak plus a boaters license? Na my kayak weighs less than 50 lbs it paddles pretty easy.

    Interesting idea, however a few major drawbacks on really any motor installed on a kayak: You can't use it is most kayak tournaments and depending on where you live installing a motor would require you to register your kayak and pay annual fees.

    I know a guy down in Florida that hit a reef n tore out his plug mounted trolling motor n he came close to death as he is 68 yrs old. Yes, in some scenarios that motor would be fine, but where I fish we have tons of submerged tree trunks n other hazards. I use a Torqeedo 403 n have hit a few n the motor just flips up n goes again. Maybe my day is coming as I am a old Paradog myself.
    I can run all day with a battery that last many hours, if you go FOT common sense is you have a heavy gas foot. So figure that out. It has saved my wife n I several times, as we go all day most times. If I had hit a reef it would do the same IMHO. Scottys Outriggers are great for older people n Yaks. I can load in my truck fully loaded n wheel my sand tires down the ramp where no one can launch a boat. An the 6-10 boats are waiting in line sometimes for hours. That's a veryyy good reason to go with a kayak. PA 14s rocks if you run quality equipment. You get what you pay for in kayaks.

      bixpy cost $1,099...if money isnt a problem and weight is then bixpy for you. honestly your best bet will not be a kayak, for $1,065 to $1,504 get a meyers sportpal canoe. you will get far greater stability, capacity, and the canoe will weigh less than most kayaks going this route. feel free to do your own research but i think you'll find my claims aren't unfounded. if kayaks are truly your thing then you wont be spending any less than $1000 for a decent one. additionally you can pick up an entire minn kota trolling system that includes a 30lb thrust trolling motor, power center, battery, and a charger for less than $300 on amazon. you can do whatever the hell you wanna do i just thought as a new comer that you should know there is some better stuff out there.
      Over a grand for bixpy is just obscene.

    • @AliexFolgueira
      @AliexFolgueira  6 років тому

      +Asura a canoe? Bixpy works great on a canoe, you know something I never wanted to get a canoe it is not for me, not super stable, if I want to go deep ocean fishing a canoe won't work. There are a million ways to get on the water, Bixpy is one of them and after testing it twice I can say it is awesome

    • @carls.6746
      @carls.6746 6 років тому

      instead of spending $1100 you can spend $270 on a regular trolling setup that is almost as good if not better. bixpy does weigh significantly less but is it enough to warrant an extra $830?

  • @virginiapaddler4857
    @virginiapaddler4857 6 років тому +8

    uh.... 1000??? this is not affordable. 95% of the kayaks and canoes out there cost less than this motor. Why would someone buy this when they can get a trolling motor and battery for less and get better ride times. 500 and better times would be competitive.

    • @AliexFolgueira
      @AliexFolgueira  6 років тому +1

      +Virginia Paddler ohh come on, the whole thing weighs 10# a 45# trolling motor and and 60#battery will drive you crazy also a decent 45# saltwater trolling motor is going to run you to $300-400 the battery $60-100 and you still have to setup the cables, when the battery starts losing power it slows down the motor, Bixpy keeps going till the end because it is lithium, you can carry a second battery because it only weighs 7#. 95% of the kayaks and canoes that costs less than $1000 cost that for a reason! What's more good luck putting a heavy battery and motor in a hobie revo rated for 270#, and don't tell me you will use a 20# trust trolling motor, you are better off not using anything. Sorry about the rant but I'm tired of people only looking at price and not the whole package. Torqueedo costs almost double and is not faster and it doesn't last much longer.

    • @virginiapaddler4857
      @virginiapaddler4857 6 років тому

      I totally get you support the product. Mine is nothing but a opinion, but I own half dozen kayaks of various lengths and uses...(Very good kayaks I might add) that I spent 1000 or less for, and I just cant see spending 1000 for it. I am absolutely sure there is a market for it... particularly fishermen..... but for the recreational kayaker not so much. Again just a initial opinion. Whats the usage expectation in hours for the motor? How much are additional batteries?

    Did I understand right, motor, battery and mount at $1099? Saw lot of negative comments on Bixpy video about price but any pedal or Mirage drive adds $1000 to kayak price. So, seems like a good price for what you get. Range could be 15 mile on one charge depending on conditions and weight of Yak and rider under 300 lbs. I want two, hang them off sides/ mounted like Boonedox landing gear. Two equals 10 MPH and 30 mile range then couple on a solar charger. Wake me up - Dreaming. Thanks for the video Aliex

      Henry Carmona It all depends on the usage. It's a sealed and Buoyant battery that has an Aux port for a Fish finder or GPS, or can be used to charge your tablet or phone. 10 forward speeds 3 Reverse. It has a top speed of upto 7mph. You're looking at run times anywhere from over 6.5 hours at the lowest speeds. 3.5h at the median speeds and about 1.5h at the highest speed if used continuously non-stop. Price point is $999 for the Hobie Rudder system. Mirage and Pro Angler are $1099. The whole unit weights 10 lbs including motor and battery. 1Hp, 30lbs of thrust, it moves an amazing 100gallons per minute.

    -When will the ‘drop-in’ be available for the Old Town PDL?

    • @electricsurfsports
      @electricsurfsports 6 років тому

      riprockvx9 A solar panel could likely work if it is designed to charge consumer electronics, but no direct solution that I'm aware. would be interesting to find out how we can make this happen. About the old time predator. While it is our aim to get as many solutions out with direct attachments it will likely be a bit to design, mass produce and ship these adapters. The beauty is that there might be an adapter that works for you currently with little or no modification. You should be able to make your own cassette likely. Think of a way to make a kick up feature too when designing and who knows, maybe we'll buy the design from you :)

      Electric Surf Sports Waiting on a phone call to meet shipping company and receive my Vibe 130 Sea Ghost. Stumbled on these vids by chance and am pretty excited. People are complaining about price, but a powered yak at just under $2k isn’t crazy. Your demos show that the design is very thoughtful, especially in its adaptability for a variety of applications.
      A few questions:
      1. Have you determined a realistic lifespan of the unit in hours? (Prop head and battery)
      2. Is the prop head essentially an aquarium pump with modified housing and impeller? If so, is the impeller similarly easy to replace and maintain?
      3. In Texas, adding a trolling motor requires operators to register the kayak as a motorized vehicle. (Something to that effect). Do you know if the Bixpy would require the same?
      4. Several comments compare trolling motor outputs, stating increased performance at lower cost. We know that there is no comparison in terms of weight. Have you experimented with or considered a higher-output device that adds a little weight but more speed/range? Or is the current model already optimized for available technology?
      Thank you!

    I know it's considered a "luxury item", but come on, a THOUSAND dollars for this? Even the manual pedal drive units are retailing for that much, which makes me wonder what the true cost of R&D and manufacturing really is on them. Okay sure, an electric jet and battery kit should carry a cost to reflect the development effort and complexity, but THAT much? It's insane. I can get a whole secondhand fishing skiff with a motor for that price.
    I guess it's a different world for the folks who are sponsored or have enough exposure to receive freebies for reviews.
