@@pluton9762 @Hannah Smith I like it a lot but I would recommend thinking more about the location and course structure than the department reputation. In my case York offered a good balance between AI/Data Science/Hardware/Software so I could go into any field once finished.
Hey Boas Andreasen, I am going to join York for Computer Science course and I was looking for accommodation. Could you suggest me a good college for my stay? And also it would be helpful if you could give me some tips before entering York and starting my course. Thanks bud
Have to say I agree with this 100%, as much as I try to see the positives with YLS the bad points in this video are so so accurate and it is such a shame! Thanks for sharing honest feedback.
First and foremost, great video, Chelsie. I'm starting at York's law school this September so this was very insightful/useful. Hope you'll have a better experience at KCL!
Hi Chelsie, Think that this video is great at showing your experience specifically at York and think your points are very well thought out, but I think the title is really quite misleading. I’m a 2nd year philosophy student, and whilst this was an interesting look into another course, I think a lot of the video is completely irrelevant to other degrees, and if the title was more specific to explaining how it was your experience studying law at York I would have no problems, but I think that a video like this may really quite scare some prospective students and students that have just accepted places; they really ought to know that this isn’t similar to every course. Secondly, a lot of the uni experience is down to social/lifestyle side of it, and to only really mention that for a minute piece at the end is quite misleading and could potentially show people an unfair representation of what York is really like. Would be up for a dialog about this, as you’re obviously a smart woman and would be interested in your point of view
i want to apply for york to study politics, and its nice to see some genuine criticsm from a student, even if thet arent on the course i necessarily want to do. very refreshingly honest, well structured video x
Billy Lingard That’s amazing! I’m actually starting my foundation degree this September so I’ll be going to Sheffield next September. Are you going to be an international student?
As a York Education first year student this was very interesting! So crazy how different the departments are! What are your plans now you’ve finished uni? And Could you do a video on thing you regret about your university experience? :)
i'm glad it was interesting! i'm working over the summer and then i start my masters at KCL in sept! yes can defo make that video, thanks for the idea! good luck with the rest of your degree.
In one of the mock assessments, it was the same amount of people getting near to 0, as were getting 100, with the rest somewhere in the middle. Feels like the people who had a natural ability or prior knowledge were focused on and the rest left to drown.
Asides there awful top end management, it’s an OK uni. If you have the grades aim higher though. It’s not what it’s made to be and post-undergrad options can be limited
Thank you for such a brilliant video really informative!! I’ve firmed York to study law this September, but just wanted to know if you had the choice again would you have picked another university which doesn’t use PBL as a primary teaching method due to some of the problems you encountered? X
Congrats on the offer! York wasn’t my first choice. I wanted to go to Bristol. So in an ideal world I probably would’ve gone there. But that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy my time at York and that PBL doesn’t have some benefits.
Sounds to me typical of British universities - I am referring to the sexual assault. The person who causes the problem stays (especially if they are an academic). The person who was the victim has to leave or is pushed aside.
Hi, I’m wanting to go into law but after uni I’m wondering if there’s a way u can guarantee a job for you while you’re still in uni, or if the university helps you with the next step ?
omg im so sorry that you had to go through that thats awful and no one should have to go through that and why did he not only remain at the law school but still be an embassador while u got thrown off ABSOLUTE BS tha law school needs to sort its SHIT OUT
Hello. I have been watching your videos recently. I am interested in applying to York for my masters in cinematography. So can you please share some review or things you have heard about the department of Film, Theatre, Television and Interactive Media ? P.S - Your videos are very helpful. Nice work.
Hi~ I just saw your videos which are so great and you're so gorgeous and excellent. I'm a law student from China who studies British law cuz I’m in a cooperative project between the southwest university of political science and law in China and the University of Sussex in England. So my dream is to be a solicitor there. Do you think it is necessary or possible for a Chinese to obtain the solicitor certificate in England?
I was sexually discriminated against, by a member of staff in the mature students welfare dept. Didnt report her as I was in discussion with the uni about cooperation on a research project., so decided not to rock the boat.
funny enough my experience of the engineering dept...its the careers bloke who was one of the few staff who seemed to give a toss. The others are just too busy in their own research. (although 2 professors were very good at responding to emails)
hello, I am planning on doing medical engineering this year at York. If you know anything about the quality of the course, could you help me! Do you think you're getting your money's worth studying engineering in York and any pros and cons please? Thank you! 💕
@@dellabella3644 ello) thats a one year old course, they expanded the dept in autumn 2019....just after i left. They h do have a large medical dept(for doctors and nurses) so i guess it will be a cooperation, between 2 depts.
The University of York, with its utilitarian CLASP style of architecture around a spaceship-like Central Hall, originally seemed designed more to appeal to science students. It's never had universal love - it was once nicknamed the University of Dork because the people who'd most find its flooded Milton Keynes-style, often entertainment-lacking, vibe habitable were likely to be dorks. A lot of courses did not demand particularly high grades so, when some, like English and History, did, it arguably felt like a token way of attracting kudos. Basically, the York way was often 'get a load of Oxbridge-educated people in as tutors to turn this concrete puzzle in to something with gravity'. It has not been a universal success. The accommodation was mediocre or depressing. The dining rooms were like bad late 60s/1970s comprehensive school architecture. Living in a college has zero benefit other than usually being close to the lecture/seminar rooms. York belatedly started to modernise their banal, hospital-like, corridors - by instead building entirely new buildings such as the attractive Computer Science building and creating an additional Heslington East campus. The University of York of today is aesthetically quite a lot of improvement and this is no doubt reflected in the fact that it now attracts some interesting, sociable, modern, fun, people.
Seems like York didn't add anything for you and your success was purely down to your drive and dedication. In University of course you have to be self motivated, but as a first year I felt like I was drowning and didn't feel like there was any help/
