    I’m so glad I found this video. I’ve been set on being a Lawyer for the past 2 years, but now I’m starting to become more interested in Medicine. I’ve got to choose my A Levels by August, but it’s hard when I don’t even know what path I want to go down. This video was really helpful and I feel more confident in my decision now. Thank you!

      Relaxing 01 I ended up choosing Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I really wanted to take English Lit, but I felt that these kept my options open as much as possible (Bio and Chem for Medicine; Further Maths for a potential Maths degree, and Law doesn’t have any specific requirements-although essay-based subjects are preferable). I’m still not 100% sure what I want to do in the future, but I’ve been watching a lot of webinars around these subjects in order to make a more informed decision.

    • @elinor5551
      @elinor5551 4 роки тому

      Relaxing 01 Your A Level options seem really well-rounded! Honestly, I’m regretting not taking English Lit at the moment. Chemistry is definitely not for me to the point where I’m thinking of asking whether I can swap it. It’s probably too late now anyway, so I guess I’ll just have to deal with Chemistry for the next two years...

    • @elinor5551
      @elinor5551 4 роки тому

      Relaxing 01 I actually talked to my Head of Sixth Form today and she says that it’s fine for me to switch Chemistry for English Lit as the English Lit preparatory work I did in quarantine was really good. It’s honestly such a relief as I’m sure that my performance in Chemistry wouldn’t have been satisfactory.

      interesting story! Plus i'm pretty sure that you dont necessarily need a degree to be a flight attentant, just alot of work experience and skills with the public.. my point being that if you wanted you could always be a flight attentant even after you have changed your mind and now you have so many options. i know for myself personally i want be a flight attentant for maybe a year a two juat for the experience 😁 so my plan is to volunteer and work in the public sector for a few years become pro at being personable and maybe self teach some psychology (and gain certificates studying from home) all the while studying at uni for my dream long term career, if i decude that uni is for me 🌟

      Same here! I have just graduated and have recently realised that the kind of "natural" curiosity I have for creative things is just not what law can offer me. It's also difficult because spending five years studying it when I'm not even curious about news updates regarding amendments to regulations takes so much toll on the placement interviews that a disinterested law student would give just to get into firms as an obvious course of action.

I am currently in my last year of high school, doubting my decision to pursue Medicine that I've had since I was 14, thinking whether I would be a better lawyer, because I am good at History and English. After this video, I am more sure I want medicine, especially after you said, ,,think about whether you want to practise or just to study law" --- I think I would be good at studying law, but my mind will always be in Medicine.

    Before starting YLS did they expect you to have done any pre reading and did you do any over the summer before first year - if so what did you read? Also, did you have to buy all your university textbooks or are they provided for you when you get there?

    • @ChelsieAngeles

      They don't expect you to do any pre-reading. We have LawTrove, which the university pay for. It's an online subscription service that contains all of your legal textbooks. I didn't need to buy books in my three years.

      I think most people experience similar issues when they graduate for certain courses they realise the specific career might not be right for them. But it depends on how you feel, law career is known to be extremely demanding n competitive, so if you think it going to hve so much effect on ur mental, relationship n others maybe its not what you should pursue as a career. But for other people they may not like career but it is still acceptable then its ok n they continue on that. Only you yourself know the answer for that question

    Did you look at the pre-requisites of medical school? A lot of the unis require chemistry as an A Level. Likewise, have you started practising for UCAT, BMAT? Have you started volunteering and doing medicine related activities. Are you going to do grad medicine vs undergrad medicine. Is funding going to be an issue for you? I only ask you these questions because taking on medicine as a second degree is a lot of work, and having studied a related stem subject it is difficult. I think its absolutely fantastic that you're pursuing your new goal, and pursuing medicine. But getting into medical school is not an easy task at all. As someone who got into medicine, and then decided against the career.

    • @ChelsieAngeles

      I’m pursuing grad med at certain universities that only require the GAMSAT and do not ask for science alevels. I’ve been volunteering in the medical field in multiple positions for over a year now and will continue to do so until I apply in two years time. I appreciate it’s a lot of work so thanks for the concern, and highlighting the requirements for those watching/reading the comments who may want to pursue a similar path!

      yes the cost is large. but luckily there are bursaries available which cover most of it. the jury is still out on whether i could get a student loan the second time. it would certainly help to get it, but wouldn't be vital.
