An inspiring book with lots of ideas for a variety of garden buildings The instructions are detailed and clear with plenty of photos. As a beginner ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxlg1H4xyrEBR03VoimQHdPx6Ebmzrr0nO I was looking for a manual that would walk me through the basics with detailed instructions and this book does just that. The book caters to both the beginner and more experienced DIY enthusiast with builds varying in complexity, from straightforward projects such as the one we've completed, to more ambitious builds. Absolutely on trend, with instructions on how to install solar panels, green roofs and sweet chestnut shakes - It's given me lots of ideas for future projects!

It is truly a blessing to be called a friend of the Amish people. I live in Northern Michigan and I'm a driver for the Amish community here. I pick them up and take them shopping or transport some of the men to different work sites and I also perform escorts for the big storage buildings that are made at a place called Woodland Structures where they build some of the most durable and amazing barns you can buy and all without any source of electrical power. I had to be in the Hospital for a few days a couple years ago just when I had 6 cords of split firewood delivered. My oldest daughter called me in my room to tell me that 10 Amish Men showed up at my house at 630 AM and sorted and stacked all of the wood in my basement and refused any payment other then snacks and water. They finished in less then 3 hours. This is the way these wonderful people are all the time.

A English farmer allowed his main barn to be used as storage for straw by many local Amish in my county I was raised in, Ohio. The hay struck by lightning, destroyed the barn. The Amish shared the loss with the English farmer. A community came together. Many weeks of planning. On a day in the middle of planting season, the Amish gathered on one morning, arrived at the English farm, raised and roofed and completely finished a modern two level barn with amazing precision, manpower and a work song by the Amish leader as the Amish labored through the barn raising. The English kitchen was fully modified to accommodate several hundred workers for one day. English and Amish labored and restored their shared lives in one day.

This is only done through conservativism. Most Americans or anyone in the west for that matter, would not last out the day in the life of an Amish. They conserve culture and traditionalism. Their bench mark is not themselves (ideally) but rather God so that the goal posts don't move. A healthy and tight community does not put up with non-sense. They have clear boundaries. It's never based on relativism and absolutes exists.

@@paulmcnicholas3846 a community that can't stand together might not even DESERVE success, and gets whatever it has coming to them. Yes, I viewed this video with envy, I couldn't even get the community to stand together to purchase hay, and as a result most everyone has paid $300-$400 a ton for hay all thru the winter. It serves them right for not being more like these fine Amish folks, this year most of them will prob fail in the endeavor to feed their animals, and for no other reason than a lack of unity within the community. This same dynamic will likely play out pretty shortly here, but on a global scale

A local contractor in our small area who sold pole barn kits and installation always stayed 10-12 weeks out no matter when you called him. I found it took them weeks to build even small barns. Two Amish brothers decided they would start a local pole barn supply and construction company. I have watched them put up as many as 8 pole barns in a week. They were contracted to do a 100 x 400 chicken barn. It took them ten and a half days.

This winter, teams of Amish from Ohio and Pennsylvania travel down to SW Louisiana to repair over 50 homes damaged by Hurricanes Laura and Delta. As a volunteer driver I watch young men and women give hope to the poorest storm victims of the Lake Charles area. Such skill and perseverance. Each day began at 6AM with breakfast, worship, and beautiful singing. The Mennonite Disaster organization supplied the vehicles and equipment. Others supplied materials. The Methodist church provided housing. What a wonderful time we had learning about each other cultures. These young people were full of joy and energy. The girls worked at every job the boys did. I can't wait until they return in October.

We had 3 Amish brothers, Michael, David and Alvin, from Lancaster County build our new 3 - Seasons Porch a few years ago. Every morning they'd arrive at 7am and work without talking or playing the radio. We sat and had a beautiful conversation with Michael S. when the project was finished. We asked about technology. He said different churches in the county had different "ordnung" about technology. If the Community felt it didn't interfere with family life (like cellphones or tv interfere with family cohesiveness) or with community life, then it was acceptable for that congregation. He also said the vast majority of Amish youth do not feel the need to go out on "Rumspringa", and that it was overly exaggerated on tv.

They move at an extremely slow speed having Nearly 500 legs and can eventually be trained to follow commands as seen here. They also tend to have commensal relationships with different types of farm animals, as they usually sleep and habitate inside of them without harm to either species.
Beware, If you notice one getting too close to your house or business, it may be attempting to mate. A good way to prevent this is having plenty of cattle to block your property aswell as setting up fences, retaining walls and obstacles around the house.

You know when I was a kid I grew up in an area where everyone made fun of the Amish, but as I've gotten older and looked around at the world I live in, I've noticed that they're living a much more meaningful existence than we are.
More and more every year, we rely on things that take the human out of humanity, and we can't figure out why there's more crime, more murder, more drug addiction, more suicide, more mental health issues.....
I think the Amish got this thing figured out....

Lots of little issues in the Amish community, they just don’t share it with everyone. Many ex-Amish have shared why they left - too much control. Some have said that when there is a pedophile for instance, they’re forced to not talk about it. Or worse, marry the guy. Everyone has their own issues….but at least the Amish have self-sufficiency at the end of the day!
