    I know it's been MANY years since I went to Toronto for Operation Mindcrime and was absolutely blown away by his vocals. Best concert I have ever been to. Went with my girlfriend and we had a blast! It's been 20 something years - his voice isn't a little worse, it's barely good. Well, age does many things to a person. Can't expect them to have the same vocals as they did 20+ years ago.

    Saw Queensryche working my first job as an usher in St. Louis in 1986. Had no idea who they were, but I was able to watch the entire concert for free (I had no idea at the time how good I had it). One of the loudest concerts I've ever attended and they were really good. Became a fan after that. IMHO, Rage For Order is their best album. The best way to experience Queensryche in my opinion is thru their first few albums. Geoff Tate gives good effort here, and his voice has held up well, but this concert, especially the background vocals and the sound mixing is lacking to say the least.

    It seems like that they have not been together for a while for the obvious tightness of the old Queensryche is not present. Geoff did struggle with his vocals but this is a fluke. He is one of the most talented singers and one of the most consistent as well in hard Rock. His range and delivery is simply amazing. Based on this performance (not his best) he is still one of the best.

      +mike11pisano I'm a true Queensryche fan...and Geoff tried turning Queensryche into some shitty jazz / fusion / contemporary rock band. He needed to go. I DO have major respect for what he contributed to QR in the 80's and 90's...but around the mid-2000's, Queensryche started to sink FAST because of him. Like that Cabaret bullshit he forced QR to do back in like 2009 - 2010...WTF was THAT?
      I could sit here and go on and on about Queensryche's new singer, Todd LaTorre, and how he brought much-needed energy back into the band, but all that'll do is start a pointless "Geoff vs. Todd" battle...and TRUE Ryche fans know how true that is.

    Just quoting one comment that explain the truth !! Derek Gooden posted in another video
    Okay plain and simple. Rising West was formed by 3 members of Queensryche because while Geoff Tate was off CREATING new material and WRITING new material they (who had little or no creative or songwriting talent of their own) wanted to grab a karaoke Geoff wannabe and go around singing old Queensryche stuff. This turned into a plan to kick Geoff out so they could continue on playing the same proven music instead of taking chances and growing as a band. As someone who has been going to concerts since 1981 I can tell you that I MUCH more appreciate the song WRITER and the CREATIVE FORCE behind a band than I do the people who sit in and play instruments once the music is written. Freddie Mercury died and the joke of a "Queen with Adam Lambert" continues on but yet where is any new Queen material? I'll stick with Geoff and continue to support his creative desire to push the envelope and try new things knowing that there may be things he does that I neither get nor particularly enjoy. The man is an artist. He is not a slave to the desires of one or even many sets of ears. Sit back and enjoy the fact that we still have these kinds of creative forces around folks. It won't be long before these we have left are gone and we'll be left with auto-tuned pre-pubescent children singing crap "created" for them by a machine that cares only about making coin and making everything sound the same.!!!!

      Well, both bands released new material. Geoff's Frequency Unknown sounds like shit, crap songs, crap recording quality, creativity zero... While QR's self-titled came with kickass songs written by (surprise!) who had little or no creative or songwriting talent of their own!!! Along with Tate's karaoke wannabe!!!!! HOW IRONIC IS THAT??? Wait, it's not over!!!! We are in 2015 and the story is repeating all over again. Operation Mindcrime releasing The Key (whose first single sounds like shit too) and QR releasing Condition Human (I really don't need to say that Arrow of Time is a fuckin' balls to the wall song). So, if you want to suck Tate's balls, go for it. But you have to deal with the fact that he was the anchor of the band after DeGarmo's split and dragged the band down for years with crappy songs, outside writers and family running over the business. If you can accept that RYCHE is better without this douchebag Tate from nowadays, cool. If you don't, just shut the fuck up and go suck his balls.

    It amazes me how many people want to talk about Queensryche but do not realize that one of the key elements that made Queensryche what they were was Chris DeGarmo. Queensryche has been on a downward spiral since Chris left in 97 and Geoff has known it. Kudos to Geoff for trying to save it all....but seriously? Freaking out and pulling a knife on one of the cornerstones of the band? Unacceptable! You don't need a rock band bro, you need psychiatric help!

He bitchslapped Rockenfield and Wilton in Brazil after they fired Geoff's wife, daughter and son-in-law behind his back and half an hour before showtime Rockenfield laughed and smiled to Tate "you are next".

      Yes he did. But that does not change the fact that Queensryche has never been and never will be the same since he left. I kinda wonder if Chris didn't see what the rest of the band found out later on about Geoff and decided not to give up his personal life for it anymore.

    I just gotta say, I love Geoff Tate and always have, he is the the most copied singer in every local band who has a singer who sort of even sounds like him. Kind of the same of Steve Perry, but even Geoff can tell his background singers in "I Don't Believe in Love" were beyond "off". Growing old sucks, even for Vocal Gods... Damn.. Love ya Geoff

    This pandemic plague has left me with too much time on my hands, and I’ve been hankering in nostalgia for the years 1991-92. Quite a heady year...Senior in high school, all that. But I digress...QR was THEE voice during this years. I went to Musicland and bought Empire on NYE 1991 and listened to that and OMC for a year. A voice unmatched, a creative force unrivaled in those days. Geoff Tate had presence, looks, and was cerebral...He and QR’s posters littered my wall, along with bands/musicians that were much more subpar than QR.
    I hadn’t listened to QR in almost 30 years, so I didn’t know about the drama, loss of voice, unhinged episodes, but man...It’s just sad. He treated his bandmates so terribly, and you begin to understand why Chris left. Spitting on band mates you’ve known for 30 years? Who does that except those on drugs or who need psychiatric meds? Then there’s the creepy cabaret show with his own damn kids...
    I saw the concert they did in Oct of 91 on YT, and they were at their A-Game. They were that good. Then you see the uninspired bandmates, a man who can’t sing anymore, and a performance that looks like middle school talent show. No one in this mockery of a once great band was even trying. That said, seeing the band that was the soundtrack of your youth fall so badly makes me want to cry. I was 17 when they hit with Empire...Almost 47 now. It hurts...

    I'm not a huge Queensryche fan like most of you. I like their music, I just don't know it as well as most of you. Some thoughts about this. The overall mix is really bad, so anyone would not sound amazing, just okay. The drums don't seem to be driving the songs, he seems to be struggling, but then it could be the mix. Geoff's vocals sound good to me, pitchy in spots but he can still wail. There is some interference on his wireless mic and the bass is making some weird noises...Not that my opinion matters but it's still cool...Awesome songs...just enjoy music that isn't mass produced pop and rock on!!!

    • @fuckgoogle4704
      @fuckgoogle4704 10 років тому +9

      With that rant I'm assuming you are disrespectfully referring to the 3 other original band members currently touring and recording with Todd and Parker. What, to you, makes this version more legitimate? Are you under the mistaken impression that the singer leads the band, just because they are often called the "front man"? No, that's just because they stand in front. The fact is when a band plays it's the drummer that leads the band and is probably as responsible as anyone for establishing the unique nature of their sound. In a legal sense the band splits the profits equally outside of songwriting credits, DeGarmo was the driving force there.
      So I don't see the basis for Tate being called the legitimate part of the pieces that Queensryche became, especially since his voice hasn't been at the top of the heap in metal in 25 years. He started pulling notes an octave low during the mindcrime tour and has been sliding downhill ever since. The douche bag formerly known as Tate is touring with a hired bunch of carpetbaggers while three remaining core members are still together happily doing what they've always done- and appear to have been given a new lease on life creatively while suffocating with Tate's ever worsening eccentricities and his wife's usurping of band resources.
      I think all long time Ryche fans lament their passing but it's helpful to realize this was not a recent event, it happened in the early-mid 90's.

    • @fuckgoogle4704
      @fuckgoogle4704 10 років тому +1

      john cates karaoke... compared to queensryche 1986, that's an apt description for either. But who from those days (besides perhaps Iron Maiden) still performs credibly?

    • @ehrenellerbee1274
      @ehrenellerbee1274 10 років тому +2

      Well, for me:
      1. This is not the "original" Queensryche. 2. I will always be a Geoff Tate fan... and I don't want him to stop doing what he loves. I DO want there to be only ONE Queensryche, which is currently comprised of: 3 "Original members," 1 long-time member and 1 capable vocalist. If Geoff can just get back to being Geoff and doing material that suits his current style/voice, I will back him 100% in what he does.

    • @fuckgoogle4704
      @fuckgoogle4704 10 років тому +2

      Ehren Ellerbee I don't hate Geoff. I don't think his "current style/voice" is consistent with the Queensryche I, and probably you and many others, lament the passing of, nor do I think he can ever return there even if he wanted to. I saw a performance of him and his band, I think it was sometime in the last year in Brazil? and though the band was competent the whole thing was uninspired, he's going through the motions and seems to have rehearsed more on his ability to avoid singing difficult notes than he ever did hitting them. Playing much of the material Toddryche is also doing, I couldn't help but think though Todd can hit the notes and sustain them he still lacks Geoff's control and timbre.
      In the end though there's that troublesome word, uninspired. Or for Toddryche, conversely, inspired, and I think they've got that advantage.
      In any case it seems a settlement has been reached and whether we can say Geoff "lost" or not as maybe he was paid handsomely to abandon the suit, nevertheless his website now touts "Geoff Tate: The voice of Queensryche". Legally all indications are if we call them Queensryche, we're talking about Scott, Michael, Eddie, Parker, and Todd. A public statement is on the way.
      I also recently discovered something on the wiki talk page for for the band article. In an interview years ago, it was said and acknowledged by Geoff and Scott, that the original core of the band was in fact Scott, Eddie, and Michael, who were later joined with Geoff and Chris to form The Mob. So this may or may not have played in the legal battle. who knows.
      Ah, if only they could have remained without as much drama over the years, and the singer had lived a healthy lifestyle, as Iron Maiden has. Wouldn't they be something. Yes, it can be done, Bruce sounded spectacular through the 00's tours, and Nicko hasn't missed a step at what, 63 now- and Dave Murray's work on later albums was critically lauded (the solo on Paschendale stands out)
      That's the rub though. Could you work with such a demanding professional as Dickinson all those years, even if it made you a better person now?

    I saw QR play in 1986 when Tate was at his peak and smashing all the highest notes. While he isn't that "legendary" singer anymore, Tate is still a special talent. The problem is that the band in this video is terrible, which takes away from his overall performance. Reference the vast disparity in talent in Silent Lucidity. And, while Tate's voice reminds me of cassette tapes and my teenage years, etc; La Torre sings the QR songs better and has more range to meet the vocal demands of the oldest QR songs.

    All respect for Geoff Tate. He was instrumental in creating the most important music of my youth, the first albums of Queensryche, practically my personal soundtrack of that era in the 80`s! (I saw them live twice back then, and once more a few years before the eventual split. Loved them every time.) On this live recording (not the best of mixes!) GT does a good job, in my opinion. His voice is not quite what it was in his heyday, but he is older now so that´s totally understandable.
    I have a hard time understanding the feud between the fans of Tate and QR now. Bands break up, bad music gets made, bad decisions happen. They have all moved on, why can´t you? I bet we all wish we could have the old Queensryche back, with Chris DeGarmo and Geoff Tate, with them all being friends and still young and hungry and everything, but until that particular hell freezes over we have to settle for what we have.
    Peace.

    I am a Pro drummer, 30 plus playing. I have spent a good deal of time studying Scott Rockenfield. He is a unique drummer, solid power, hand speed, good and well placed double kick, plays for the music and has a bit of Stewart Copeland in his Hi Hat work. I believe this is Simon Wright on drums, a solid rock drummer, who played for AC/DC when Phill Rudd was out, but he is more a meat and potatoes/solid drummer, maybe not the best choice to play Scott's parts. However, his ability cannot be questioned, just his fit for this exact band.

      Brian Ostrowski Dude, do you know anything about music or singing? Speaking as a lead singer/guitarist in two bands as well as a 30+ year Metal fan, I'd say that he sounds great for his age, with great vocal control like a veteran singer learns to have - sure he doesn't have quite the same power and high range as he did in his 20's and even 30's ( who does? ), but overall, his voice has held up better than Rob Halford's and is almost as good as recent Dickinson. And at least he's singing the songs in the same key as they were originally recorded in - Halford and Dio ( R.I.P. ) had to have their songs transposed to lower tunings ( D or lower rather than E standard ) for the last 15 or more years in order to hit the highs.

    I dont know why.. but this concert was perfect.. But watching this today, its sucks. I think that producers has many mistakes when taking the sound and showing on TV. Many others concerts in Brazil has this problem. you can watch another concerts in Monsters of Rock or Rock in Rio, the same problem for all.

      I think that they actually do suck. You were probably to in the moment to realize it.
      But I am really glad that you had fun. Thats what its really all about.
