So jealous. I was too young then (born in 85). I saw Geoff Tate solo a couple years ago and the current Queensryche lineup shortly after. Both shows were amazing, but not quite the same. Closest I'll get, I guess.
Perfect, utterly perfect. Not just Tate, who's inarguably Rock's greatest vocalist, but this version of Queensryche, the entire band. I'm so glad I got to see them live from The Warning through Empire.
Their is no singer that can sing like Geoff. He has a voice that is so mesmerizing. I listen to all their music three decades later and have their "Operation Mindcrime" concert on DVD. Stellar!!! Wish I could have seen that in Concert. I have seen the original members in concert five times. How I wish they were still together. Miss them bad. I'm 58 years old now and I close my eyes and wish when I open them they were there, not just on the radio. Total perfection. And again nobody can hold a candle to Geoff. A voice like this, will never exist!! I love all you guys!!💖🥰🔥

I had this on their VHS “Building Empires” tape, right when they were at their peak. I loved Queensryche 30 years ago, because they were so different than other groups I listened to them. I sure do miss my youth and their music

My girl and my childhood babysitter drove to WI from Seattle to see the filming show but we only made the Madison one because my girl was tight with a close connection to M Wilton. They were very accessible in the early 80s and it was insane to see them make it so big so quick.
When you can seamlessly switch guitars through the song, and especially during the solo without missing a note, you really are a pro's pro 😉 Killer song, killer band. The best I ever heard live replicate every nuance of each song

i got into queensryche at the time of the first "mindcrime" album. i devoured all their old stuff like it was going to be banned. they rocked my world for 5 years - thats all i listened to, practically, from 1988-1993. its great to hear this song and remember those days - this blaring from my headphones in the arcade or on the late subway train, hoping i wasnt going to get mugged.

Yeah, but Rockenfield it seems like Rockenfield isn't playing anymore. LaTorre did all the drums on Queensryche's newest album. I saw a video of Tate's from just a few months ago when he was touring Europe. It seemed like there were tracks for background vocals since only one guy had a mic, but you could tell he was singing live and sounded pretty darned good.
@@MichaelHolmgaard agreed. What he needs now is a good producer. Sascha Paeth knows how to produce metal voices. Dump Jason Slater and Kelly Gray, they did nothing but drag Tate and Queensryche down, then again that could be at Tate's behest. Degarmo is doing that acoustic project with his daughter and flying planes, but we could hope he gets bored and contacts Tate. I think an original band reunion would be good too. LaTorre is pretty good too though, I prefer the albums with him over anything else since Hear in the Now Frontier, but if we could get a reunion of Tate and Degarmo or even the whole band it would be cool to see a final round
The backing vocals here are vastly superior to the Tokyo performance. I do like raw and gritty performances, but this song needs a somewhat more polished sound, and this version nails it. Beside, Scott sometimes drags. Not that noticeable, but fairly obvious for a drummer.
Goddamn this is good. The whole band was amazing. The bass is perfectly mixed, the vocals are insane, the backing vocals are equally impressive, the guitars are in perfect harmony, and Scott Rockenfield was a cut above his contemporaries.
Geoff Tate quickly became one of my all time favorite vocalists.... like Steve Perry, I had to hear him live to see and hear him sing, see if they could pull it off flawlessly .. still in awe. Wow wow wow😎💗

I have been a Queensryche fan for close to 20 years, apparently not such a good fan. Heard this masterpiece for the first time a month back! (prior listened to only Mindcrime and Empire). Thank you UA-cam. I am obsessed with the Guitar Bit before the Chorus, the Chorus and the Guitar Bit interchanging thereafter. Obsessed! Just captivating, sheer perfection!

I saw THE FIRST show Pearl Jam ever did in NYC at a sleezy club called The Limelight, which was originally a church. They were REALLY amazing that night! Always thought Soundgarden was the best band to come out of the grunge (Seattle) scene. Still do. May 18, 2021 marks four years since Chris Cornell passed....STILL not over that at all. May he rest in eternal peace.

Chris Cornell was not only an unbelievably talented vocalist, but I'd argue an even more talented song writer. Even his work with Audioslave had terrific lyrics. He was a generational talent. Never to be replaced.

I have seen many metal bands including Queensryche in their earlier years, and it was by far the most memorable live performance I have ever seen. Acoustically far superior than any other band. I enjoyed this, brought back some good memories of Operation Mindcrime

I was fortunate enough to see this band 3 x original lineup. And I saw operation mindcrime live with the whole theatrical display nurse coming out with the wheelchair giving him a shot the video display just absolutely mind-blowing
Heard the early stuff and really liked it as a fan of Maiden and Priest at the time. Started really getting into them when Rage for Order was released but then came one of the finest albums of the decade...Operation: Mindcrime! I still listen to that one now and again just to remember how great they truly were!!!

Saw Tate do this Saturday night in N.H. and the guy has kept his voice in a big way. It's a shame these guys fell apart. Some time apart in the 90's may have done wonders. Fantasy scenario: DeGarmo gets them in a room and heals all wounds for a reunion tour. If he could only get his head out of the clouds...
I really like it when a rock band slows a tiny touch for the live stage. there is no hurry, hit every note and bring the goods. Queensryche and Geoff Tate brought the goods.
So glad i got see this band in the early 90's, whilst they were still in their prime, and this song is just fucking epic. I try to like bands that are around today, but there are very few if I'm honest, Queensryche were innovators, they helped pave the way for a lot of bands still, It's nice to be among good company here, people who know good music when they here it!!!

This live clip to me is the best live version of this song, even moreso than in Japan in 84'. The band just sounded more symphonic and in sync.

@@anthonysaponaro6318 Yup, turbo size, they called it. They were square size basically. A normal 12'' tom was 8'' deep/tall, a power tom was 12'' x 10'' and these were 12'' x 12'', 13'' x13'', etc...

Definitely a song you can never get tired of. I probably play this song at the least, probably once a week. Maybe more. hahaha Something about it that gives you an awesome vibe. The guitars, the vocals, everything. Has to be one of Queensryche's gem songs!

Saw Tate do this Saturday night in N.H. and the guy has kept his voice in a big way. It's a shame these guys fell apart. Some time apart in the 90's may have done wonders. Fantasy scenario: DeGarmo gets them in a room and heals all wounds for a reunion tour. If he could only get his head out of the clouds...

So glad i got see this band in the early 90's, whilst they were still in their prime, and this song is just fucking epic. I try to like bands that are around today, but there are very few if I'm honest, Queensryche were innovators, they helped pave the way for a lot of bands still, It's nice to be among good company here, people who know good music when they here it!!!
Never figured out why they got a hair metal tag, Progressive rock maybe.?! This song is killer Geoff was awesome in his prime, the whole band is on point.!! Thanks to UA-cam I can witness greatness.!!
