Thank you for the slow speed. I'm one of those that are teaching ourselves (by watching videos like yours) and, with the high speed that looks sooooo smooth...well, seeing your tool bouncing all over the place really helps me better guage how I'm doing...or at least gives me the ability to let the tool beat me up instead of just beating myself up over a lack of skill.
It’s a lovely bowl, Todd. I’ve just been given some 300 year old oak beams and I’ve just used one to turn a bowl so your video is a nice coincidence. Your lathe is also amazing 🌞
It's been a long time since I saw your last video, didn't know what happened to you. New lathe, new shop, I believe you are working on some oak burrow.
The grain is awesome. The way it swirls in different directions is amazing. I was expecting there to be at least one hole somewhere in all that pattern. WOW it's beautiful.
I'm intrigued by the artistic mind that can look at that "hunk of wood" (all I see) and see that this beautiful piece is inside of it! Then bring it to life so brilliantly! You do such amazing work with the most unusual pieces of wood!
That grain is amazing! I've really never seen anything quite like it. It's like those geodes that look like plain old rocks but when you crack them open it's like a whole planet inside. This is spectacular!
can't wait for the steady rests to be available. I need one for my Jet 1221vs. I barely use faceplates except for the last 2 turnings I have done making platters out of edge glued pine rounds that were purchased from a big box store (Menards) since that is what was demoed during one of our in person monthly demos for the club I am in.
I probably have a ton of burl wood stacked away for fire wood. I never really gave it much thought to turn white oak burl since the stuff is harder than my head. That’s pretty darn hard. But now, I need to reconsider that line of thinking and give it a go to see what I come up with by turning a bowl of some sort. Guess I need to break out the chain saw and cut some burl wood from pieces that probably weigh as much as 200-250 pounds each. They are massive burls.
Hello. Couldn't hear what you said it smelt of after you sawed it in half? It has a really lovely grain pattern inside, great lookin🎉g bowl. Thanks for sharing 😊
Beautiful turning. Was just wondering if it was still green and if it was do you think it will warp? i certainly hope not because it is just a stunning bowl.
...that grain is absolutely amazing!!!...very well done!...👍
Matt
Thank you 🙏
Love how you utilized so much of the wood, very little waste. Such a pleasure to watch you work.
Burl is just beautiful both in nature and to work with! It’s that proverbial “box of chocolates”. You never know what you’re gonna get.
My first noodle burl 😆✌️
@@dukaheritage9445 natures Ramen! Hahahaha
You styled it perfectly with the base and mortise. Wild and crazy grain that you made pop.
Thank you 😊

that is a tell-tale white oak burl. That spaghetti grain is crazy stuff.
What a pleasant surprise. So much more character than the average hunk of oak. Nice work.
Thank you 🙏
If I could only get a real close look at it, I’d expect to find fractals. Thanks, Mr. Duka, for allowing us to peer into a distant galaxy….
Yesssss! I love your thinking on this 😊

Sure thing 😉 This was a super hard piece with voids and absolutely zero straight grain, I knew it was going to be a workout.
WOW!!! the grain is all over the place, and the colours!!! a stunning piece of wood turned into a stunning piece of art mate. nice one.
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful piece of oak burl. I’ve been fortunate enough to turn a couple with that lacey grain. Very cool stuff. Beautiful work. Love the bowl.
