Shonen Jump MANGA Contest 2020 Winners: Who Won And Is Getting Published In Japan

- Long overdue the winners of the Shonen Jump Tezuka Contest have been announced. Sadly your favorite mangaka did not make it. However, we are going to learn from this and grow and become better so I want to go over each of the winners and the judge's comments. The judges were stacked yall it was Dragon ball Z Akiratoriyama, Kohei Horikoshi from My hero Academia, Kazue Kato who created Blue Exorcist, Takehiko Inoue who made slam dunk and the big man himself Eiichiro Oda as well as the Tezuka production deparment. I want to learn to want we should think about next time. That is if they decide to do this sort of competition again. There are some hints for a Tezuka Competition in 2021 but then again we shall see. Also, I want to look at the winners there were many. here they are broken up into their different sections.

Good Story can take you places. Look at ONE with One Punch Man and Mob Psycho. His story was so good he got one of the best Manga artists in the business to redraw it. And got another series in his own artwork published
Sure this doesn't work in these contests but a good story will find away to shine through
I agree but I wonder what other story has that cause really only time people site that is with mob and one punch which is great but is that really true for all series just some good for thought.
@@VandelMarchenStudio Yeah, its a really rare event sadly. OPM was getting attention, millions of views, even when the art was really bad (ONE just starting) so it likely takes a lot of attention first and not every comic no matter the skill will get that much attention
Though and argument could be made that some of the bigger manga don't always have the best art
Maybe Crunchyroll making anime out of mangwa kinda counts. Another set of online comics of various artist agility. (Tower of God was rough when it started) still getting recognized enough to get an series
Even if getting Murata for a comic that looked like how OPM started out is the biggest victory here
Yeah just gotta make more manga and the more you make the more you’ll get noticed since not everyone’s story is that interesting or compelling to everyone. Also this is about a lot of luck
@@VandelMarchenStudio another example is attack on Titan despite it having bad art in the beginning it got popular because of its amazing story and later on it got an anime adaptation
Dame seeing the winners is really humbling, I like to think my submission was decent but they just blew it out of the water.

Your drawing was rough that for sure and the pacing felt a little rushed. As I was reading it, it’s oozing with so much potential like isekai mangas. It reminds of yuusha ga shinda! I wish the best for you.

I actually was able to read Armados in english on tenmanga. This was actually very interesting it definately felt like some legit manga or anime series. It sucks he didn't last at the end tho but overal I liked it. I agree this is definately something I can learn from I haven't heard of this competition but I would like to one day publish a manga series in both Japan and America, once I'm ready to start it that is.

I myself want to get myself into creating manga. But I suck at drawing, is it possible to make battle style story through writing alone or is that not possible.
Of course you can there’s a lot to it but you can with writing for sure. Just find good motivation and conflict for the battle so there is meaning find something worth fighting for and make that interesting

The ending I can feel like you were rushing since at part there seemed to be like jump cuts. I definitely understand that feel and I think it was partially ill take that critique.So I am soon going to sell the short story and if enough people support it then I have a lot of ideas for a second chapter and then some. There was SO MUCH cut from this I have content for a long time lol but thank you so much for enjoying this that made my day!

Honestly it could be next year or never. That said jump and other companies always have competitions for stuff so you can always submit and I’ll always keep everyone updated on when that happens

Awesome keep working on it the summer is coming and there might be some competitions you want to enter regardless making a manga will be a good process to learn so you can do it in the future. Also jump is always having open calls for Mangaka but it’s gotta be in Japanese it’s tough but you’ll make it ! Some how !
@@VandelMarchenStudio I read on site that tezuka is held 2x a year and there already is a tezuka award open right now would it be a good idea to submit it straight to Japan?
@@jeremytirtokusumo6171 I mean you can only do that. but the Tezuka for japan is 2 times a year but this international competition has only happened once and dont know if it will happen again. i didnt get to enter but i learned a lot. I will say however i noticed that most non asian entries were likely not translated accurately by the automatic translation.

@@VandelMarchenStudio hes saying when you enter they have a automatic robot that translates kind of like google translate. So it would be better to hire a Japanese translator on fiverr so your words flow better.

@VandelMarchenStudio just an update I submitted my one shot called beast souls to participate in the monthly awards for last September I ended up getting 219th placement but I'm still trying
Is it necessary to present only 1 story or we can do multiple stories like Oda’s wanted manga
I mean the contest has past so it’s up to you I recommend short stories to build up your skill set.
I ended up submitting to Silent Manga Instead. My own thoughts: I could have sworn I read the rules, but then they added new rules like "monochrome" only.
For those who dont know, Selective Colour is my thing, where one object may be in color.
Though will read SJs rules if I submit there.

Well we are waiting to see if they will run this competition there are other ways to get in but they require you either know Japanese how to write it or have a translator

No. If you did not make that character up you can’t enter it. It has to be your own character that came from your imagination not another series that someone else has already created
The no color rule will be very annoying if kept, because most of my manga is told visually by it's limited use of colors.
