I honestly don't remember for sure anymore, but I think it was probably either Rurouni Kenshin or InuYasha, two anime series that had a huge impact on my adolescent tastes.
I actually grew up watching anime with my mom, she was very young when I was born, which I'm kind of grateful for because it means I still grew up with so much 90's content even though I came in at the end of 99. I remember watching Chobits with her first. The first Manga I think I read was this really twisted manga called Judge. I'm not actually sure if i finished it lol
I think we should call this era the “Renaissance Era” because it is a time in shonen where overplayed tropes are dying off and mangaka are returning back to the foundation of what makes stories so awe inspiring in the first place: fresh perspectives and original voices!
@@MANGAKA__13in a *good* way! Renaissance means rebirth, so it could also reference the currently big thing of taking old tropers and doing something cool with it
@@Kraxel-North I’m not saying it’s in a bad way, but I feel some people use it as an escape route so they don’t have to think too much for a good story… for example I use manga plus creators.. and I see a lot of stories that do it that it gets tiring But the trope itself isn’t bad, i think it’s just beginning to get overused
Besides, i love this era of manga but I still prefer the 2000s, coz we had series like Naruto, bleach, one piece, hxh, hitman reborn, gintama and the likes… this era has amazing and unique series but for me that time was still the best
Hokazono has been crafting a great story so far. Gotta read the few most recent chapters, but from Sojo’s appearance up until the middle of the raid on the auction, everything has been spectacular, especially considering it’s from a lesser experienced mangaka.
I started Kagurabachi last Saturday; I finished 34-35 chapters in a few hours and fully caught up in less than a week. I hadn’t really seen the memes, but it’s genuinely an exciting read. I The power system is simple, but utilized and written very effectively and it’s only getting better with each chapter. The paneling and the fight sequences are beautiful; the series just has the “sauce.”
I just love the general direction that Manga and Anime as a whole are going right now. Its only getting easier and easier for artist to express and share their unique and amazing ideas, stories, and characters leading to a large influx of great Manga and Anime. Theres so much variety now that no matter what demographic you find yourself in, you’ll always have plenty of amazing works to entertain yourself with. Manga and Anime are at an all time peak right now and I’m excited to see how much further both will go.
Honestly at first I thought it was clickbait but you’re 100% right in that the thing that is selling rn is not crazy fights or anything it’s just having a cool, easily identifiable, unique style that people are inherently drawn towards. And I’m realizing most of the series that are still running that are popular have that and those that got axed don’t
Kagurabachi is so peak. It's starting to take over Sakamoto Days as my favorite weekly action manga. It's so cinematic, it's crazy. My imagination goes over the top every time I read it. Please read it.
Its not that close to Sakadays for me. Sakamoto Days still slams in a lot of factors imo. BUT Kagura is STILL one of the best mainstream series out right now period. That is still undeniable. Its just that I think Sakamoto Days does a lot of stuff atLEAST just as good as KB, even tho theyre quite different in nature.
I love Kagurabachi! Always been a fan of those john wick / kill bill type action movies and from the first chapter I can tell Hokazono wears his inspiration on his sleeves.
Honestly Kagurabachi is an interesting case. Literally got treated as the Morbius meme when the first chapter released, then it actually got better and surpasses the meme status. Kagurabachi is Kagurabussin' good and will surpass Kagurabachillion in sales 🥶.
Eh not really. Clears is wayyyy too heavy and objective of a term for something like Akane tbh. But thats just my opinion tho its still a great series!! Just that there are a lot better ones out there for me atleast.
For this new era. I think callin it like the "Revolution Era" is prob best. Its not like the new era where it uses the past goats to influence them but its mainly people making their own stories with lit influence from the classic shown series. Great video, great food for thought It is definitely one of the most exciting times in shonen jump’s history. One word to describe this era could be: diverse. While the magazine has frequently featured some off-beat stories and some that weren’t standard shonen fare, it was still mostly action-centric shonen. In recent years it went beyond that. One of the top 5 most popular Shonen Jump series for 2023 is Akane-Banashi, a story set in the world of traditional Japanese monologue theatre. This is more of a slice of life series and centers around a female character’s mission to become a star of this medium. Also top 10 is the very satirical and whimsical Me and Robocco, which is as if taking Rosie the robot maid from the Jetsons, giving her the Crayon Shin-Chan treatment and with Jojo kind of tone/undertone. We have protagonists over 30s in both Sakamoto Days and in Kaiju no. 8, not only the standard teenage hero or in their 20s. Not only is Shonen Jump a collection of shonen and non-shonen material now, it also has reinterprets and spins the classic tropes and structure of shonen more than ever. Another word would be: seinen. I think the term is a lot of the times used very vaguely to refer to more mature themed but still essentially shonen manga and the line between shonen and seinen gets even more blurry every year. And I feel Shonen Jump now embraces crossing the line, keeping up with a more diverse taste in manga. Dan Da Dan and Chainsaw Man are very indicative of this. Sorry for the humungous post.
It can't be stated enough how well Kagurabachi distilled the battle-manga formula. It should be written off as generic, edge lord, and lacking in plot, but it is just so. damn. cool. that all those things become strengths. Comparing it to Kill Bill and John Wick is so apt since they're all stories designed to take you for a ride while grounded by characters with straightforward motives. This is what Bleach wanted to be (and credit is probably owed to it as well)
Honestly very surprised you didn't talk about undead unluck in this. It has been running for about 4 years now, yes, but its still a very good example of modern shonen jump
Nagumo is my goat too. But for this video, I def agree. While I do think Shonen needs to chill on the exorcist manga, the best they got rn def has been peak

Obviously people are gonna cope bc they think the best era is what they grew up in but what i think cannot be argued is this current era of sj is special like we haven't seen in a minute. Especially sakamoto days to me is a breath of fresh air in a world saturated with more basic action shonen like jjk and demon slayer. And dandadan is not necessarily new in any of its ideas but it is the peak version of what it's trying to be imo.

It did not disappoint. Genuinely a good story and art. Can’t wait to see where it goes in the future.
DanDaDan has been one of the best reading experiemces ive had in years! PEAK. I was already about tp read sakamoto daya and kagurabachi but i had doubts about rury so thank u! . Would u be able to make a video on Light Novel addaptations such as Mushoku tensei, or Classroom of the elite? Plus is there anyway people van start talking about Frieren manga as well? Aaaand last but not least there are amazing titles comimg from Square enix such as The Apothecary Diaries, new series from FMA author Daemons of thw underworld and strong rising stars like Black butler. Thanks! Love the tone and the edit, one more sub!
For me, this era of shonen jump could easily be called the 'challengers' era, in a sense that all these new manga are sort of challenging the common belief that the magazine has already reached its peak. We've got series that expand on already used tropes (gokurakugair for ex), completely ABSURD imageries like dandadan and even complete 180s with slice of life stories such as ruri dragon. However, my favourite manga of this era has to go to Akane Banashi. It uses such a boring topic that is an old Japanese performance art and manages to make it the most engaging thing ever. It uses the best aspects of sports manga, fuses two different types of storytelling and even has some amazing characters. Definitely recommend it!
You cant sleep on show ha shoten either. The newest additions are also incredibly promising. Jump rn is so hype. I'm counting the hours until the new drops today.
it is funny because besides Kagurabachi you did not mentioned to 2 other that have managed to become mega hits, Blue Box and Akane Banashi, heck Blue box was the best selling new gen jump title until Kagurabachi came out. Also Dandandan is not in weekly shonen jump it is in Jump + online magazine where Chained Soldier, Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise is in

Thanks! Love the tone and the edit, one more sub!
amazing video bru

such a great video your great love from libya bro
Honestly you're not in the slightest wrong, this era got a lot of heat!
YOZAKURA FAMILY NEEDS TO BE HERE
For me, this era of shonen jump could easily be called the 'challengers' era, in a sense that all these new manga are sort of challenging the common belief that the magazine has already reached its peak.
Also Dandandan is not in weekly shonen jump it is in Jump + online magazine where Chained Soldier, Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise is in
Amazing video
