I'll be 60 in April, and talent has helped but it has never gotten me very far in life. The best attributes that helped me along my journey have been the ability to compromise, the ability to adapt when needed, admit when you are wrong and don't BS - if you don't know, say you don't know, never stop learning, and always have time to listen to those around you, and lastly don't be a dick - treat others the way you want to be treated.
Also learning how to under promise and over deliver is a very powerful tool.
A bunch of helpful and handy hints, thank you.
Also, Andrew Lock is an amazing gaffer and person. I got to meet him a month or 2 ago as he was giving away a lot of his gels, so I got to grab quite a few, and talk about lighting of course!!
Hey Justin. Last points about communication were excellent!..thanks
Justin your channel is always like gold - I love watching it, you are always inspiring me - And this video is a jewel mine that is really helping me - Thank you always for the helpful advice and the tips and letting us know the useful tools in this video. I loved the last bit, about just being straight-to-the-point, it's honesty in it's truest form.
Awesome! Thank you!
from your videos, i can tell how much experience you have on set, it's great to see working professionals here in youtube! I agree with a lot of things you said, especially about communication and being honest with other people, it helps a LOT in the long run and will make your jobs go a lot smoother
i like it! straight about it all..finally got fp now to learn...compliments...rock on
your hat is awesome!!!
the communication thing, to quit sugar-coating, is also something I’ve learned - had to learn - in the last few years. It is better. Even if I lost many jobs, it is better. Smooth sailing is what is fun. Fun/harmony is what makes great art, in my opinion. And when I see what those people do now who didn’t like my directness, I’m glad I quit. It is average quality, will be forgotten soon. The best experience I got with craftsmen, because they are trained to be realistic and to solve problems quickly. With divas who think they don’t need to know things because they’re just brilliant from birth … not so much.
thanks a lot this video really gave me some good insights
For your narrative work, how often and in what ways are you working with the sound mixer during pre-pro?
what mic are you using in this video? sounds very clean
Like I always say... Indifference gets the job.
I prefer saying videographer , what do you call a director who designs there lighting sequence and chooses the lenses and decides the blocking
Stanley Kubrick
@@JustinPhillip ha...ha...yup that works.
