Nice vid bro! Loved it! Very helpful. On the internet there is almost no useful info about using a Sekonic lightmeter in practice on a set… please more input in future vid about this topic 😊
Another amazing video Justin ! A DoP friend of mine taught something similar to me but in his case, he would always use a 0.3 or 0.6 ND in pretty much every scenario because if the director would change his mind and would want to do a HFR scene (48p, 60p, 72p) he would just drop the ND and would be ready to shoot in no time, saving so much time during the shoot.
that wouldn't change the quality of the light. Sure the net cuts by one stop, but it's only doing it in the 24x36 space that it takes up. plus i'm getting it super close to my face. Meanwhile, the full output of the lamp is still illuminating the 6x magic cloth. I'm only taking away the one stop exactly where i want to take it away.
My first time seeing an Adorama affiliate link in the wild. Haha love that we now have more options that just B&H and Amazon for those. If only filmtools would get it together for affiliate links. Excellent job on this video man, love getting to learn the technical lighting workflows from someone who clearly knows both their camera and their G&E. I appreciate you taking the time to make it.
@@JustinPhillip Just because they’re big, doesn’t mean they’re always the smartest. I honestly thought that filmtools would have it together before adorama with affiliate links.
This is great info. I've always been (used to be now) the guy that just dials in what looked good on the monitor using false colors. Now I feel like I learned lighting and exposure the right way. Subbed
Very nice video Justin. I am new to cinematography and still learning lighting. Many of us don’t have the privilege to purchase each light to practice. Then your channel comes in clutch . I still find it difficult to expose each scenes uniformly. If you could make a video on that. I understand that the light meter is used for that. But how to use each accessory that I am not aware of. 🙏
maybe i was given false information but how does the el zone factor in iso changes, i presume it may be different for raw but in my understanding changing the iso would shift middle grey giving you a different amount of stops above and below? would the el zone be able to account for clipping at every iso or just the cameras native iso?
Please help i have the same light metre when i hit wrench icon nd click on set filter compensation nd select the filter in use ( this is where you made a jumpcut in the video at 1:23 ) i only see the square at the top but my reading is just the same though i select nd filtre, can you please explain what could be the reason no matter what filter i use i dont see the change.
Love your vidoes even though I'm a fair way below the skill/knowledge level of your target audience. Your content seems to strike a great balance between tutorial and BTS of genuine production.
You are the most loveable cine-nerd we know. Another banger from our “dog” 👊🏼😛 keep em coming! ❤
Great Video, Justin!
You are an excellent teacher! You can explain the fundamentals without talking down to your target audience.
Bravo!
Glad it was helpful!

Yupp!! This whole thing was like over two hours, so lots more to come from this tutorial! 🙌🏼

Que bom te encontrar por aqui maninho @bbrunorocha 😄
@@vitorbritoDP opaaa, acompanho o Justin a bastante tempo !
Your vids are getting better and better. The bokeh
Thanks for this video. Question - why do you use a net rather than dimming the Nova 600?

😆 Awesome, thank you! Yeah, FilmTools definitely has a circle in their pockets, but they the big dawgs! 😉

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Learned a bunch again in this video.

I love this channel!
Thank you 🙏🏼

You'll get that on these big jobs... 🤣 Great video, super in-depth!

Have you tried the kippertie revolva yet? It's really nice to have that ND readily available, can't go back.
I have the Meike one. But its a variable 😔
Amazing info thanks Justin

Any exposure difference will affect the EL Zone. ISO shift in a non-Raw format would make a significantly bigger difference.
ah okay that makes a lot of sense, thank you for the tips! @@JustinPhillip

Check and make sure you’re not in Spot Metering mode
@@JustinPhillip no sir not in spot meter could it be a firmware update problem?
13:10 is such good information. Jeez
😆
Whoa! Did that cinematic Osmo Pocket 3 vid just land on the moon?
🤣 what??

if you dont want to crowd your talent with all these then why showing us. what is not aplicable on set?
It is all applicable to real world set. Don’t be a hater. You clearly missed the point because you chose to. Good luck with your career! 😆
