Definitely think the worst thing I do is doubt myself. It's disheartening when you're not growing or gaining viewers, but there's always the enjoyment of whatever you're doing now and the hope of tomorrow. :p
DaleDystopiq This is exactly what I'm doing on my new Twitch channel. I'm doing it for the entertainment. I figured, hey, I'm going to be playing this game anyways, might as well stream to *possibly* get a viewer or two!
TheNaway18 Absolutely. That's was the entire point to me first wanting to stream. I've slowly been raising a community and it's great that we're just all having laughs over what I'm doing. One of the most rewarding and greatest feelings in the world. What types of games are you going through? Wouldn't mind hopping on someday.
I've been playing a lot of Ark: Survival Evolved. It's fairly new but you've probably heard of it. It's been pretty fun to do. Also, my Twitch is under the name Synocity which is my new self on the internet. What's yours, and what do you play? I can probably pop on over as well!
TheNaway18 I..actually haven't heard of it. I'll check it out ahah. My Twitch is under HeyyItsDale, and I've been doing a lot of Dark Souls recently, though I just started a bllind Fallout: New Vegas playthrough. No idea what I'm doing or where I'm going lol. Used to do some Legend of Mana speedruns too, which I try to fit in on the weekends when I have time!
Thank god, someone who FINALLY talks straight about this subject & stays on topic. I'm an older guy (50+) who's been looking into doing streaming & it's been VERY difficult to get straight & complete answers on what you need to know. Well done sir. Kudos to you & your folks, who I am sure had a bunch to do with your good attitude & non-bs approach. Impressive. My thanks.
Let me tell you the story of Da7acoMAN. He was a younglad with a dream. To become a full time streamer. This young lad was also a college student. He also decided to leave his console brothers during the cripto mining wars. Due to his horrible timing he overpaid for a computer. He decided to not drop out of college because he got financial aid that could be used to support his streaming career. He did this and now is about to become a nutritionist without even knowing because all his focus was on his stream. So what we learned was be like Da7acoMAN, follow your dreams and you can become a nutritionist. Or go watch him on twitch, he doesn't want to become a nutritionist.
thanks for this Jim. I just started streaming myself. it was you that inspired me to start stream. See you when you're next live and I look forward to more help guides and tutorials :)
Thanks for the guide man, also thats for the encouragement you gave throughout the video, it really gave me confidence to start streaming and video making in the future
jim i think you should make a vlogging channel you already have a following and i think youd be great your quite interesting and you can confidently talk in front of the camera
yeah man show your day to day when you get up what you eat i think it would be great you got an act for it :) been on youtube for a while i would suggest making another video if you watch like christianguzman a bodybuilder but his day in the life vlogs hes taken us with him and weve seen him grow and you really get a personal connection without actually connecting and he shows us his house his mum what hes eating his girlfreind his new gym the gym hes moving into hes prepared to meet people and train irl etc it just bring fan closer and i think youd be good for it
This was very helpful. You made me think to check my up speed (4.12 damnit, so close) and it made me realize that all of my weird pagany stuff in my room wouldn't even need to be moved because it would spark questions, as would my long ass hair. Thank you for the advice.
This helped me so much, I've been researching what type of set up I should have for twitch and all I see is "you need this much money to get all of this, or your stream won't be good" type of thing... But thanks for this video!
I can see the logic behind what you say with "don't go into it for money." However, I disagree with this concept, but perhaps it is just my case or my mentality. I'm looking more to make a career out of this. Making bank isn't my mindset, but rather using videos and streaming to have fun and to live a happy life, and then to continually give back to others to help them reach that happiness as well. The money aspect is going to be the means just to survive so I can continue to help others and continue to be happy. Other than that, money is of no value to me. The content ideas I have and wish to start are for the sake of entertaining others and doing things I feel are original and would be fun to make on a daily basis. Sure, making stuff that people want to see is undoubtedly going to go into that, because for the last 7 years I've made stuff purely for me and a middle finger to the public, and they didn't do much. There's no impact, no feedback, nothing. I think it's a matter of sitting down, digging deep in your thoughts, and finding out ideas that you would want to do that you also think others would want to see. And perhaps that's the silver line I want to ride as far as going into it "for the money." Sorry for a winded response, but this constantly comes up as something foolish to do, and I feel that it is incorrect if given the right mindset. I suppose I'll have to try it and see if my thoughts orient more towards money or towards what I see that my audience and myself want to do.
Although you say you don't NEED all of this fancy equipment I'd certainly recommend getting a good mic. Always helps. And making sure your stream doesn't lag.
Good stuff! You covered a lot and it's appreciated. I'm a long time UA-camr and a fairly new Twitch streamer. With everything going on with UA-cam right now, it's time to spread the old wings and branch out into new territory. ;)
Hey, quick question... At what follower milestone do you decide to actaully take twitch streaming to a new level, such as perchising new and imporved equipment and such?
Thank you for the video man! I got really discouraged after I built up about 20 consistent viewers and 100 followers who all enjoyed watching me play Rocket League, when I switched to WoW everyone left. I haven't gotten a new follower in over month (I stream everyday). This video made me want to get back at it at 110%, I also decided to try to upload twitch highlights and use my twitter :D
because of this video i decided to try with doing youtube for gaming. ive always wanted to just didnt know how to start so if icould getmore tips for how to on an xbox one i have my first video out on. this video was awesome hope you go far man;)
I have a few questions, 1. If i dont want to make money, can i stop that? because i want to do it for fun. 2. Will my videos be saved on my computer AND my twitch acount? 3. How do i record it, does twitch have something special for rec? Or do i have to basicly use fraps/bandicam/whatever the hell it takes?
any recommendations for streaming from a console? also if I don't have a webcam/mic would you recommend investing in a decently good one even though you said not to spend money when you start streaming?
hey man. you do very well with youtube and i hope you gain for subs along the way. i love your channel and everything you do but i just dont play runescape anymore but youre doing great keep up the good work
Can you do a guide on applications like the sub/follow pop ups. The skins for the streams and so on. That would be really helpful! I can't find anything on those.
hey jim, ive been thinking about doing live stream for a while, im from Dominican Republic and i dont know if that would be an issue because of the language and all that, im a diamond player in League of Legends and i would actually play without a webcam, just OBS and some music in the background, what do you recommend?
Hey! Great video. I have a question, the other day i was trying to stream using xsplit gamecaster. I initially had 1080p set in the settings but when i hit the stream button, my stream settings automatically changed to 720p. Can you help me figure it out why it happened?
Hey dude, ty for your explanations, i'm really up to a twitch career, fact is, idk what to do with my future, or actually i don't really like things that much but i feel like i am capable and ready for making a living out of streaming on a daily basis and i feel like i'd love doing this more than anything so ty for your vid, rly helpful, i'm almost 19, hoping i'll make it work, keep it up :d
My biggest question is can I play my music over stream? I've had a UA-cam channel before and copyright was always a hassle, so is it possible to just play my own music?
Hey Jim Ive been trying to get the courage to start streaming but I just feel like I wont be good at it I guess. How did you get into the mind set to start streaming and making videos? :)
Hey man keep this up I love the tips. I just started streaming through the Xbox one and I have almost 30 followers and I'm having a ton of fun and would love to continue hearing our input on making it better
My wife and I decided we want to start streaming. We use our PS4s and don't have cameras. I'm pretty weird and softspoken, and she is a bit more outspoken. I want to make good livestreams, but I feel like I'm too weird/awkward. Do you have any tips or advice?
Hi, mentioned your webcam, and after looking at some reviews about the Logitech C920 USB HD Pro Webcam some users mention, that there is a problem with the software. You have to use it or the sound is out of sync for example. Did you have that problem, too? Is it necassary to use the software from microsoft, or can you use it in combination with your microfone?
Thanks for the video! I had no idea you were a RuneScape streamer. I'm looking into starting my own stream, but I don't think I have the face/voice for it. Do you think it's worth trying anyway?
You Were Right About OBS... I Use It All The Time.... It was Hard to Set Up @ First... But Then I Realzed Something... I Didnt Need All Those fancy Settings The Tutorals said I Needed... i Just needed 2 put in my twitch stream key, set up my mic 4 obs... set up the screen captures & i was done!
Hey Jim, thanks for the video buddy. I just started my twitch and youtube today so i'm doing some research lol. Great video, helped me a bunch. Wish me luck! :D
I assume you have a schedule. But was just wondering how you came up with your schedule. Did you pick specific days because they suited you and worked around you. Or did you pick specific days because of how many people where watching / streaming a certain game. Thank you for you advice so far!
Great tips! I'm starting out on both Twitch and UA-cam. However, I am putting Twitch as my priority because I've been uncomfortable with myself on camera and my voice on microphone, but now my confidence has shot up in the last couple of years I plan to get used to Twitch, I'd like 20+ dedicated followers who talk to me on chat, money doesn't matter for me.. One day I'll get into making videos on youtube for gaming.
Not sure if I will get a response on this but, I currently travel almost every week for work. I am investing in a Alienware 17 with a GTX 1070, will this cover my needs for streaming or should I save and go for a higher end.

Jim, this video was awesome and super helpful! I'm a stay-at-home dad of sorts and enjoy my games but just got ready to take it to the next level with Twitch and UA-cam. This was really uplifting and informational. It seems so easy but it discouraging at first to try to get views and followers when you have no base. This helped me out. After implementing these for just a couple of days I already have almost 100 views and a handful of followers. You're the man.
Hey bro one question... so do you think if I stream on my PS4 with just a camera and mic I can make it in twitch I can be able to gain a good follower?
I have a question about obs.... I have an issue with the webcam box. I can't resize it, it's to big and for some reason I can't resize it to make it smaller. Right now I just made it see through.
Jim I doubt you will see this comment but if you do. What do you think about streaming with out a face cam? I have everything ready to go but I don't have a camera yet. Do you think I should wait or just start and one day when I get one do a face reveal?

Everytime I want to get back into streaming I come to this video for help. Such a life saver. Thank you!

How to do you get your stream seen? That's my biggest problem right now.
social media, and retweet twitter accounts,
Also twitch friends
Niel Evans Stream everyday and be good at the game you're streaming? Isn't it obvious
This was very helpful. You made me think to check my up speed (4.12 damnit, so close) and it made me realize that all of my weird pagany stuff in my room wouldn't even need to be moved because it would spark questions, as would my long ass hair. Thank you for the advice.
Excellent video. I'm hoping to have a stream up and running in the next few months and this helped a lot. You keep doing what you do man.
Wow very helpful! Ive noticed that young guys that do twitch understand how to make videos very well, simple, straightforward, and interesting! Great!
2 questions. When will the UA-cam tips and tricks go on? And what did you use to create the animation in the beginning of the video?
"It's like women... *scrunches eyes* nah, not even going to get into that" Already like this channel!
Thank you! I plan on starting soon I really appreciate this. You earned a sub. I like the motivation. You're a wonderful youtuber and streamer!
This helped me so much, I've been researching what type of set up I should have for twitch and all I see is "you need this much money to get all of this, or your stream won't be good" type of thing... But thanks for this video!
These are the most sensible tips ever man God Bless you brother

I agree with this comment WHOLE HEARTEDLY. What you're saying here are the exact feelings I have going into this. (Streaming)
Although you say you don't NEED all of this fancy equipment I'd certainly recommend getting a good mic. Always helps. And making sure your stream doesn't lag.

Hey Will thanks for the tips very helpful! Just a quick question. What software do you use to edit you videos on UA-cam and that sort of stuff!?
How do you take questions and monitor the chat if you have to focus on an intense game like Call of Duty? Between the deaths and matches?
Best tip is don't do it for the money! (y)
Petr Vnučko what if people do it to make money? And it IS their job?
StaaanOziy - I think he's saying, don't go into it hoping to make money.
Thanks for all the tips and tricks!! Very useful for beginner Twitch streamers.
hey jim what do you do with your old equipment when you get new things?
Hey! Great video. I have a question, the other day i was trying to stream using xsplit gamecaster. I initially had 1080p set in the settings but when i hit the stream button, my stream settings automatically changed to 720p. Can you help me figure it out why it happened?
When you aren't partnered on twitch you can only stream 720p at 30fps
How convenient this came out. I just started my first stream today and I found this vid. interesting and helpful.

My wife and I decided we want to start streaming. We use our PS4s and don't have cameras. I'm pretty weird and softspoken, and she is a bit more outspoken. I want to make good livestreams, but I feel like I'm too weird/awkward. Do you have any tips or advice?
Whenever I stream on OBS and I stop streaming. I go to my twitch channel and there are no Past Broadcasts?
I've got 60 down and 4 up. It's the best they offer in my area, will it be enough for a quality stream?
Hi, mentioned your webcam, and after looking at some reviews about the Logitech C920 USB HD Pro Webcam some users mention, that there is a problem with the software. Do you need an elgatto for twitch?
+Josh Morse
I would recommend one if you're going to be streaming from a console. If you intend to stream from PC than its worthless. :)

Where did you get your Twitch shirt?
how can i start my twitch app?
what app can you recommend me for streaming games on phone?
How do you feel about the K65 keyboard?
Jim, this video was awesome and super helpful! I'm a stay-at-home dad of sorts and enjoy my games but just got ready to take it to the next level with Twitch and UA-cam. This was really uplifting and informational. It seems so easy but it discouraging at first to try to get views and followers when you have no base. This helped me out. After implementing these for just a couple of days I already have almost 100 views and a handful of followers. You're the man.
How do you veiw your stream after you broadcasted it
Hey bro one question... so do you think if I stream on my PS4 with just a camera and mic I can make it in twitch I can be able to gain a good follower?
