    Thank you for posting this video. I found it more enjoyable to follow along with when building this bed than the video that comes with the instructions.

      That's great to hear! How did your bed turn out? Are you happy with the results? Thanks for watching!

      @@AmplifyDIY I am very pleased. I kind of forget the terms already but when you close it, the end (where the feet would be if open) is so close to the top that it touches it. The sides have about an eighth inch gap except in the middle because I left the plywood outside a week or two and it warped. The top right has popped out about an 1/8th of an inch (when it closes) after I've screwed it to the wall, so I'm guessing the wall might be a little wonky. I'm like a advanced beginner so I learned a lot. I do painting as a profession, so it would have been easy for me to paint it but the room in which it goes has natural wood trim that is stained. So, instead of painting it, I chose to stain it and got some birch veneer edging to match the plywood. In addition to using your video, I also listened to the mistakes people made and wrote about in their amazon reviews, so I made sure to measure twice and go at a calm speed. Thanks for the warning about some of the cut-outs not being totally accurate. It took me about 8 days and about $675 and I still need to trim it out and put the handles on (I have a temporary handle on there where the trim will go). I also chose to do your custom changes, with the headboard being slightly angles (though I messed up and did too much the first time and had to reduce the angle by about 1/8th of an inch because it hit the header board, or whatever it's called, when it closes. I also left the gap in between the wall and the murphy bed and will probably get the LED lights as you have done. Thanks again for this super helpful video.

      @@tadhenn Sounds like it's turning out pretty nice. Hopefully with some time the footboard will not hit the upper header when the bed closes - sometimes with seasonal changes the natural expansion/contraction of the wood can help with that. Great job taking your time and being patient. It sounds like your results are well worth the effort!

    Very nice, I love your attention to detail. And how you show the whole process . Gives me the confidence to tackle something like that. Thank you 👍🏾

    Building this bed was a pretty involved project, but we've been really happy with how it turned out. Have you ever built something like this?

    Awesome job! Also, the other plus from building it yourself is that you can avoid cheap particle board and opt for actual wood that will last. Some of those pre-made kits are $1500+ for particle board...

    I'm in the same boat, daughter is off to college, and we could use some more guest space. Been thinking about a Murphy bed, so this is great timing.
    Also, I'm in the "One in a Million" club, too. Started watching when he was under 10K subs, working in a tiny two car garage in the Twin Cities. I recently saw a meme of Derek's face with Bob Ross's hair. Something about painting happy little lightning cubes. HAHAHA!

      VGG has somehow maintained a very consistent feel on his channel throughout it's whole history. I also found him way back when he was just in a 2 car garage, and it's been super fun to see all the projects he's tackled.
      A murphy bed has been great in that room - and even when she is here to visit, often my daughter will put the bed up so she can have more room in her bedroom for various projects.
      Thanks for watching!

    Great Job! One question - is there any reason you can’t screw in the header board to studs for extra support instead of just the top?

    • @AmplifyDIY
      @AmplifyDIY  Місяць тому

      Great question! Yes, you can certainly add some screws through the headboard if you wish - as long as you install it flush with the wall, or if there is a gap behind the head board be sure to fill it with a spacer so you don't warp/bend the headboard with screws. Also: the screws you add to the headboard will be visible, so keep that in mind.
      I've found that the bed is *rock solid* with it attached only at the upper crossmember as I showed in the video.
      Good luck!

      @@AmplifyDIY I also wanne build a Murphy bed still in doubt was it a very hard build to do with the guides? yours looked amazing!

    • @AmplifyDIY
      @AmplifyDIY  4 місяці тому +1

      "very hard" is such a subjective term 😂 - it certainly took some time, but to me was not difficult. If you have some experience doing some simple woodworking, I don't think you'll find this project too difficult. Just be patient with yourself and with the process. This is a pretty big project, and will likely take at least a few weekends to complete.
      Good luck!

    Good job! Thanks for the step by step. Getting ready to build one myself. How many hours did it take?

    • @AmplifyDIY
      @AmplifyDIY  3 місяці тому

      It's hard to figure out how long it took as filming things always doubles or triples the time a project takes to complete... but I'd estimate needing maybe 3 full days (8 hours each) to complete this project.... so, 20-25ish hours maybe? Experienced carpenters would be faster, someone new to larger DIY projects like this may be slower. Good luck!

    I am right in the middle of building this bed. I realize I lined up the upper ball by playing the nut on the 5/16 guide instead of the ball. Do you think this would cause a misalignment? It's a fraction off. Also, I appreciate your assembly instructions. Looks great!

    • @AmplifyDIY
      @AmplifyDIY  6 днів тому +1

      Off by a fraction is probably not the end of the world. There is a *little* bit of wiggle room for the placement of the ball. If you are off by more than, say, 1/2", that will likely cause a problem. Good luck!

    Can I get away with exactly 80.25" floor to ceiling clearance?

    • @AmplifyDIY
      @AmplifyDIY  3 місяці тому

      Unfortunately, no. The minimum height the queen size frame requires is 87-1/8". The full and twin need a bit less, but still won't fit at 82-1/8".

    I think there is a way to keep those gas struts underneath and hiden rather than side on. As they say two ones own choose a mobile phone

    • @AmplifyDIY
      @AmplifyDIY  16 днів тому

      I'd be interested to hear how you may go about doing that! The space between the bed frame and the inner cabinet wall is pretty tight, and I can't see any easy way to hide/obscure the struts without running into interference problems with the folding mechanism. But if you come up with something, I'd love to hear about it!
