Unfortunately, due to a copyright claim, I had to cut out about a minute and a half from this video, which is why you'll notice an abrupt cut at around 5:16. There wasn't any real harm done though - all that was said in that little bit was me skimming over the characters of Chrollo and Hisoka, saying that I don't want to say much about them because I'll discuss them in future individual videos, and then taking about 5 seconds to introduce Kalluto. Not much is missed in that cut at all, so hopefully it's relatively painless now that I've explained why. The dedicated Hisoka video I mentioned can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/hm-mjjc1LoY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Aleczandxr And the dedicated Chrollo video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/mlIkpf2fgYY/v-deo.html Additionally, this video is quite old and outdated, so I put together a much better presented, more insightful and more cohesive version here: ua-cam.com/video/OmfCiMhYXu4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Aleczandxr and here: ua-cam.com/video/9cASmjKsS9o/v-deo.html
First of all I love your videos, I have seen every single one of your videos on Hunter x Hunter way too mqny times Right now I was trying to look for the Knov and Shoot video but it seems you have made it private. I really really love that video, will be making it public again any time soon?
Your videos are really amazing. So if I would answer your question that who's my favorite in the Phantom Troupe, I would say: 1- Feitan 2- chrollo Luzifler 3- Shalnark And sometimes Phinx and Hisoka. I would also mention the reasons for this, but I can't because you mentioned all the reasons for it.
25:29 really appreciate the sudden skryim bg music :D Damn i miss that game. Love your HxH videos. For an anime only fan, your videos makes me wanna start reading the manga
Looks like the bait was successful. Though it's not my bait, someone else said it was bait, and i just thought i'd agree. Unless you're being meta and counter baiting?
leave it to togashi to convince me into loving a group of notorious psychopathic murderers. Now if he could only convince me into believing that this manga will ever be completed.
Togashi said Chrollo is his favorite character because the spiders CHOOSE him as the leader, not Chrollo declaring himself as the leader. It's completely off the troupe having so much respect for Chrollo. Then he started talking about how something is wrong with with peoples' personality when they declare themselves the leader (in real life situations). It was a really interesting interview. Goes to show how much thought he puts into every aspect of this anime/manga.
I feel like Feitan is everything Killua's father wishes him to be skill, strength, and emotionless wise once he's older. Was it just me who thought that the entire arc?
Feitan is slower than killua now, plus He get hit by one blow by the chimera ant,I mean killua wouldnt get hit not even once,Pain packer is effective the more damage u take, thats the Pros, but Cons is he might die before using it,Hes also easily angered considering pain packer is activated by his rage
Oddly enough his Nen power most likely was derived from him suffering torture since a very young age similar to how Killua's lightning is related to his years of shock torture training as a kid. A lot of similarities of the two in that regard
Zobaevil Zo Killua shouldn’t be faster. Godspeed only makes it that his speed is at his max at all times and whirlwind allows his reflexes to act by themselves so killua is just at max speed all the time till it runs out and we haven’t even seen feitain’s full speed yet cause all the troupe members said he was still rusty and he didn’t really get hit, he got caught off guard from the ko doing no damage and his arm broke because he was parrying strong attacks so it’s not like he was genuinely tagged or anything
Those are both terrific as well but I think it surpasses both of them to be honest. Meruem and Komugi's final moments is the only scene that gives me the same level of awe as the Requiem.
"Were Kurapika's actions justifiable?" Umm.. yeah? His whole clan got exterminated for no other reason than to SELL THEIR EYES. Yes he's FULLY JUSTIFIED in murdering anyone involved even partially in that.
@@lordmelvin9310 that's not entirely true in fact I would say that's not true at all. It depends on the level. If it's for petty crimes of morality or law, take cheating, scamming, stealing, using drugs, drug dealing then no most people would say you shouldn't kill people that are involved in those things. But as far as rapists, pedophiles, serial killers, etc. Most people would turn a blind eye to those people if they received capital punishment.
@@lordmelvin9310 and what else should he do ? Watch them murder more people ? I really dont understand how everyone is ok with the troupe killing but its not ok if kurapika killed even tho they are the criminals not him
@@salem3560 I never said I was okay with the Troupe killing people. The Phantom Troupe consists of bad people. Kurapika is a good person who I believe did a morally bad thing. I'd like to believe murder is never the right answer. At a stretch, death is a viable answer only if it's for unbiased justice. (Even then, I believe that should be a last resort.) Kurapika murdered for vengeance however; and that never ends well.
Melleberg Awesome Sauce Morality is a social construct. I would like to see how you would react to someone murdering everyone you ever loved and you having a chance to kill that person
Let's not forget that Shizuku is actually insanely smart when she hasn't forgotten all the relevant information - she offhandedly interpreted Chrollo's prophecies after he stole Neon's power.
Plus, I don't think she subconsciously forgets, she actively and conveniently forgets things that she doesn't want to remember. I think there is a huge difference haha
@@kitkatpangirl8059 I think she has a short term memory. That doesnt necessarily mean she is unintelligent. But rather has a condition where she forgets things that don't bear a crucial significance
Dont know what you are talking about, Togashi made me love the Troupe and hate Kurapika for what he did. I want Chrollo to go wild on Kurapika and kill him. The requiem of the Calendar was easily the saddest part of the show. And it was for the "antagonists"...
@Yuri Markov you're comparing a group of fictional murderers with magic abilities...to ted bundy?? just bc OP likes the phantom troupe does not mean they fantasize about killers in real life wtf
Phinks is my favourite; when he doubts of pakunoda's loyalty in her last moments, when she is about to shoot the information regarding chrollo to the troupe, his expression changes from the angry gaze we have come to expect from him into an emphatic one. I absolutely loved that moment. also "YOU CAN DIE WITH A BANG!!!"
The Pedantic Romantic; Super Eyepatch Wolf; the review videos from DouchebagChocolat (also known as DemolitionD) to name 3. Maybe the main channel from Digibro.
Chrollo Lucilfer is like a devil hidden behind a face of an angel, this how I feel whenever I look at him!. I wish we could have a flashback about his past. Undoubtedly The Phantom Troupe is the beauty of HxH. Great job as usual. Analysis and Comparison of Chrollo and hisoka would be a very good topic for the coming videos. The friendship of gon and killua their ups and downs through different arcs would be interesting to talk about.
Thank you! Chrollo is incredibly fascinating, as you said. I may eventually do an analysis on the dynamics of Gon and Killua's relationship, but I want to do their individual character analyses first.
Well the question is, was Lucifer all wrong when he challenged god? Because his punishment was him becoming the „fallen angel“ the counsequence of questioning god the one „who is always right“. But the Story of God and the Devil is the defintion of every Father and son relationship. The one‘s who obey god like michael and the one‘s who question god. Its all about Interpretation, but their relationships to god are seen in every family.
Damn, the bit about Shalnark was perfect. I never really noticed how quickly he moved on and focused on Greed Island. He's not a character I've ever given much thought to until now. Very interesting. RIP Shalnark. I loved how you analyzed each character as an individual but also how that affects the overall image of the Phantom Troupe. Feitan is one of my favorite characters in the troupe aesthetically speaking. The book he's reading while torturing Owl is from Trevor Brown (you can see that in the manga). Trevor Brown's art is twisted and definitely NSFW but I recommend you check it out. It emphasizes just how twisted Feitan is to enjoy such art so casually. Also, have you read the theory that Feitan is related to the Zoldyck's? Specifically Kikyo, Killua's mother. I'll try to find the link if you haven't.
Thanks again pal. Yeah, that isn't what I initially thought about Shalnark either but in paying close attention to his demeanor and behaviour, it becomes clear. Super interesting character to me. I've seen Trevor Brown's art as well - really bizarre, graphic and dark but oddly quirky in a way as well, at least to me. Fits Feitan perfectly. I've heard about that theory but not really looked into the explanation or justification behind it, so I definitely wouldn't mind reading the link to the theory if you have it on hand!
The same thing happens to me when researching! I go into it with one idea and end up learning so much myself. I agree the Trevor Brown stuff is actually pretty interesting, if a little too graphic for me at times. Here's the link about Feitan. It's not a bulletproof theory but a interesting read regardless: orojackson.com/threads/hxh-theory-thoughts-part-2.9825/
Tales of Nerdia Sharlank was really annoying, as was Kortopi, Bonolenov, Shizuku and Feitan because of how he talks. Kortopi and Bonolenov were rather useless at least in the Yorknew Arc.
It's kinda funny how with Kurapika's backstory makes him exactly the type of person who would committed their life to joining the Troupe. The only difference is that the Troupe were the ones to leave him in his situation. Now, he has committed his life to destroying them instead.
I remember feeling that kurapika felt more rage full in 2011 version of hxh. Compared to the 99 version where he felt more calm and hid a lot of his rage inside. At least that's I felt anyways.
Nobunaga is my favorite troupe character hands down and it's because of how much heart he has even for people that others in their own moral high ground would deem unworthy of said heart. This story needs to continue.
me too... I might have not, but I did because of his voice. One of the first anime's I've watched was Fairy tail, and Kurapika's voice felt similar to Erza's, so I just assumed he was a girl.
Dear Lord. This is literally (along with the Meruem/Berserk analyses) one of the best videos I have ever seen, in my life. You've captured what is so great about this arc and these characters SO WELL. I cannot stress it enough. Your videos are literal art - the editing, the music. I'm pretty sure you're my favorite UA-camr bar none at this point. Just know that no matter what you do videos of, you'll always have a huge fan in me. (And I'm sure many others). Keep it up, no matter what you want to do videos of.
this video was pure art. and vocabularies you've used were incredible. I'm still a beginner in english speaking, any advice on how to improve it to your extent?
I remember feeling similarly about the Phantom Troupe as I did about Meruem later in the series- namely, becoming increasingly fascinated in and sympathetic toward their characters while never ceasing to root for their deaths. This is more bizarre the more I think about it. How is it that a character can be written such that a viewer can enjoy every second of their screen-time while still feeling enormous catharsis from watching their brutal death? Furthermore, this isn't universal to the well-written villains in the series. I definitely wouldn't want Hisoka to die... nor did I find Illumi likable in the slightest. Just the Phantom Troupe and Meruem have both characteristics. My only guess is this occurs when a character who would otherwise be extremely likable possesses motives that conflict so strongly with an even more likable character (usually a protagonist) that their removal from existence is still acknowledged as necessary and relieving.
It's incredibly weird, isn't it? I think it all comes down to making them either relatable or likeable (for lack of a better word). Or both. I mean, I obviously haven't experienced some of the things Meruem and the Troupe go through but I can definitely empathize due to how human they are, and that definitely helps. Since it's very difficult to make villainous characters legitimately relatable or sympathetic, it's not something you see often. Togashi is very good at it though. You're right - with some of the villains in this series, it isn't so much "Who do you hate more?" as much as "Who do you like the least?" It still blows my mind that we seamlessly transition into an arc that has entirely new villains almost as protagonists. They were certainly the focus of the arc. Not only was it seamless, but it was one of the best arcs of the series. So weird and amazing.
Aleczandxr While I've got your attention, I just want to say that your videos on this series are some of the best on youtube. Since I'm very new to the world of anime (HXH being literally the first one I've watched after One Punch Man) analysis videos like this are wonderful windows into what the medium is capable of. From what I've seen, your content is comparable to that of much larger channels like Mother's Basement or Eyepatch Wolf (the videos analyzing Meruem were, in particular, fucking mindblowing). Please keep this up.
Andrew Cunningham Thanks so much, I really appreciate it. Starting out on UA-cam is difficult but comments like this really make it easy to persevere, along with just enjoying the process. There are plenty of other anime that at least approach HxH's level of art, so I'd definitely recommend checking the medium out. I started watching about two years ago and it literally changed my life. Oh, and by the way, I didn't do that Meruem-Gon video. That was actually TalesOfNerdia, who has some very good stuff out as well, as I'm sure you know.
Yeah, sorry about the mistake.I realized that like one minute after posting the comment and scrambled to correct it. Point is, your Meruem shit is also good.
I know this is an old comment, and you may not have the same opinion anymore, but what do/did you mean with: "the Chimera ant arc couldnt get out of its own way"?
Melleberg Awesome Sauce just now seeing this comment. I meant while it started off strong, it slowed down way too much and over explained each situation. For example When Killua and Shoot (I get their names mixed up) where fighting the buff royal guard ant, the narrator explained each movement and aspect of the fight to the point I no longer felt like I was watching an anime but a documentary. I felt the York New arc had a perfect combination of development, explanation, and action.
@@byronjones4635 The narrator was an important part for the psychological roller coaster we got out of Chimera Ant Arc. I feel like he explained everything in the most subtle of ways and in as few words as he can. You see the Action all happened within a few minutes and the psychological development of Meruem and the Royal guards was densely packaged and intricate. It was such a treat. The thematic importance of the arc was greatly enhanced by The narrator. Infact it led up to the most satisfying and heart breaking end. The narrator was a must in my opinion.
N I always thought that a short term memory indicated poor working memory, which is a sign of a lack of intelligence. I could easily be wrong though, I can see both sides of the argument.
she have short term memory lose when it come to thing she deem unimportant but very good when it come to her interests, and this trail happen a lot in scientist, it like they only make room for thing they need.
Once again another fantastic analysis that I couldn't agree with more. I especially agree with your opening statements, particularly how despite liking hxh from the beginning the york city arc being what made you really adore the show, which was exactly my experience. One of my favorite scenes in cinematic history that reached emotional heights that would not be seen again till the chimera ant arc (and I utterly adore all of hxh include the arcs and scenes between those york new and chimera do I don't say this lightly by any means) was the eulogy for Uvogin. Not only is it the crescendo of an areadly AMAZING episode, not only is it a masterstroke in animation and sound matching together perfectly (and my GODS those ending credits!) In a way that even someone with no context at all would think it's amazing, but with context (especially when rewatching the series) the emotions this scene exudes and inspires is so great that I feel the words "masterful", "masterpiece", exemplary", "epic" don't even do it close to justice. I'm not sure you can capture it in words. It's one of those few scenes in all the media that I've consumed that gives me the same strong feelings everytime without fail.If I ever was so blissed by the gods to meet the staff who worked on this scene, I would slam my head into the ground like inasa yoarashi from boku no hero academia in respect and I'm not even joking (I don't think I'd live if I saw ToGODshi in the flesh as I'd either burn away from witnessing a god walking on earth or I'd have a massive heart attack XD) I'm glad you seem to agree :D Also HELL YEAH FINGER GUNS ARE SOME OF THE MOST BADASS SHIT IN ANIME! And phinx is one of my top 20 favorites in the series admittedly for the extremely superficial reason in that I love his power and the way he fights XD.
Thanks as always my man. I couldn't agree more about the requiem - I touched on it in the video but no words can do it justice. It's up there with Meruem and Komugi's final game as a transcendental scene, just beyond words. Beyond art, for me. It was absolutely spectacular. And Phinks is a true badass. ;)
Aleczandxr thank you for another amazing video, can't wait for chrollo and hisoka's video they're my favorite characters in the whole hunter x hunter series.
GrenadR it will. the only problem is that the mangaka plunged his time on that videogame, i don't what exactly is, according to the reports. as well as the medications to his back problem. "He wants to take his time" could simply mean he'll only continue that manga whenever he likes. eerrgghhh :'( :'( maybe he must have a very valid reason why he's allowed by the company he is working to not obliged him to update his work in a specific time. hayssss
I don't agree with the phantom Troupe's actions but I cab understand and sympathize with their morality and actions. Coming from the bottom of the bottom where you have nothing, kindness is rare and the cruel world views you as worthless and would care less if you live or die would create an idealistic prospective of them vs us with no grey area for innocent people.
@Yuri Markov ?????????? feitan is literally a fictional character we are allowed to think he’s badass… that doesn’t mean we are dismissing all the evil shit he does but i’m a fantasy world where the so-called evil characters are just thriving and vibing, despite having two of the up and coming strongest hunters on their ass ,,,, that’s pretty badass no?
@Yuri Markov how are you going to compare a fantasy anime world to loving Actual Murderous Serial Killers who’ve killed Real People like wtf is wrong with you lmao
Pakunoda is definitely my favourite PT character, though I really like Machi, Feitan, Nobunaga and Chrollo too. The part where Senritsu drew a parallel between her motives and Kurapika's, concluding that they are more similar than different was one of the top moments of the show for me, and I cried when she died :'(
We feel empathy for Phantom Troupe because they're a family who loves each other . But them mass killing also provides a dark side to them . There is light in darkness , darkness in light . This makes them complex , and thus mysterious , hence making audience curious and drawn in to them .
For me, the Phantom Troupe doesn't excel at each members' individuality. Sure , they are interesting, but alone each of them are relatively dull to a lot of other anime antagonists. What interesting about the Phantom Troupe is their comradery and their actions together as a family
Nobunaga, Machi, Feitan, Franklin and Phinx are all somewhat useful and interesting. Kortopi and Bonolenov are pretty worthless as characters and members. Sharlnark and Pakunota were rather annoying as is Shizuku. Chrollo is by far the coolest and most interesting member of the Troupe.
Good level-headed analysis. Substance over form. Character development is one thing HxH is good at. And that requiem scene really gave me goosebumps. I remember I was overtaken by unexplainable feeling of sense of loss, grief and the same time retribution. Though their selfish actions can never justified in any reason there be. It can however be understood. Thanks for this.
you chose the perfect tune for that background, this episode in particular was one of the best hxh had to offer, man the death of that hunter with the barret was just dead awful, still sends chills down my spine
M3rtyville no way I watched yuyu last summer and it was a 7/10, the ending was so rushed and it had some dull arcs. Hunter is a 8/10 for me and I wouldn’t even say I’m that I’m big of a fan
The part about Bonolenov just makes the fact that Killua, Gon, and Kurapika would all be part of, and would enjoy being part of the Phantom Troupe if the circumstances were different, even more true.
Chrollo: This requiem is for you, Uvogin. *Screams of agony and sound of absolute destruction* The guards: OH MY GOSH! THEY ARE KILLING US! Uvogin: Sigh...music to my ears. 😁
Hello, thank you very much for your work. Your analysis is by far some of the best and most insightful I have seen in the anime community on UA-cam. Your videos are excellent resources. Keep up your profound work.
The phantom troupe is one of my favorite parts of HxH. What I appreciate and love are the moments we see these sociopathic individuals (who have done horrible things) show humanity. Some examples being Nobunaga trying to be Killua and Gon’s Uncle; the loyalty and willingness to avenge each other; Phinks sharing Paku’s gratitude to Gon and Killua or saving Kaluto from Feitan’s sun attack
Absolutely love them, and I feel bad because I do. When I started to read the Yorknew City Arc I was convinced I will never gonna like them because Kurapika was my favorite main character and what they did was unforgivable in my opinion. At the end, I ended up loving them even more than the main cast (One may forgive me) although when thinking about the Kurta massacre it still sends a shiver up my spine. But what I found so incredible is that Togashi (and Madhouse) managed to make them so human and understandable without the usual anime flashbacks and emotional speeches. We don't know what their pasts where like other than probably pretty shitty. We don't need them to remember their sad childhood to feel their pain and impulsion. We get to know them a totally different way. Some examples: 1. Nobunaga crying about Uvogin and his eagerness for revenge - It caught me completely off guard and made Nobunaga the first troupe member I felt attached to. 2. The whole way Chrollo is executed as a leader, but also as a person. Everyone listens to him and inherits deep respect, but Chrollo is also just a person who listens to others (e.g. Machi), makes mistakes and can be upset. 3. The whole dispute of Phinks with the other members and the small moment where he turns his looks on Pakunoda while taking her bullet combined with the sad calmness afterwards. All these moments didn't need any story of the past to make us empathetic. We didn't need to see Uvogin actually caring for Nobunaga, because his reaction to his death was enough to convince. We didn't need Chrollo to think out loud what his struggles as a leader are, because it is apparent that he has to fulfill different tasks that sometimes contradict each other. Instead of Phinks memory of Pakunoda and what he saw in her, we saw her memories and the way it settled him and changed his opinion. Hunter x Hunter is full of these subtle characterizations and I'll gladly take side characters philosophy over auctioning, minor character deaths and Hisokas fanboying over Gon for that ;)
What strikes me most about the Phantom Troupe are the subtle details that show that they’re human (sometimes pretty good ones at that). And I don’t mean that in the cliche sense. I mean like from a different perspective, they could be very viable protagonists of their own story. My favorite example is when Kurapika asks Uvogin if he remembers the people he killed. The answer he gives is surprisingly pragmatic and nuanced. He responds with “sort of, I remember the ones that made an impression”. It’s a perfectly sane response and shows that Uvogin is a lot more than the muscular brute archetype that defines him. It’s a completely opposite approach to the villains in a shonen like BNHA, where the bad guys are in my opinion often just Walking-Themes being hammered in your face with not much substance beyond that. Hunter x Hunter makes it clear that the bad guys are indeed PEOPLE with their own thoughts and aspirations. They’re not saints mind you, but in the world of Hunter x Hunter, who is? In-short, I think the biggest difference is that the villains in BNHA seem to be evil for evil’s sake and going out of their way to be bad guys. Whereas the Phantom Troupe are clearly just people with their own goals and dreams not that much different than the protagonists they oppose, that just happen to be branded as villains in their world. Which i personally find as a more interesting approach but who knows.
Also in terms of their designs the Phantom Troupe could easily be the protagonists of a series. A fairly dark series but none of the outright scream `villain`.
Thank you so much ive wanted to see an analysis on the spiders for such a long time, i loved the fact you gave each member their own segment and definitely made me like them more. Whilst i was pondering over what exactly the spiders motives were, i over thought things, there wasn't some deep objective or cause to do with the killings or despicable acts.It was just a group of people who have found peace and tranquillity in a home outside the moral expectations of society ; they are just like any group of friends or family who look out for each other and they're all pretty damn proud of it. Some of my favourite members include machi ( design wise), pakunoda ( character development wise) and nobunaga ( just an overall great guy and i liked his advances to get gon and killua to join) again love ur analysis and i hope to see more hxh content from you in the future
Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed. While some members like Kortopi are very minor, I still felt like it would've been important to give each member some spotlight. That made the video run a bit long, but oh well. And I agree with your favourites - I like all three of them as well! Thanks again for watching.
This might be one of the few anime that makes you want the antagonists to take revenge on one of the main characters because he killed one of them. Togashi made something really beautiful, Uvo was one of the saddest parts of this series because it manages to humanize the Phantom Troupe in such a way that you want the main guy dead for what he did.
Favorite of the troupe for me is easily Chrollo and I loved this video. Going through each personality again perfectly encapsulates the troupe with one purpose and the leader with no purpose. Keep it up!
Great analysis, using beautiful as a description for this arc is exactly how I felt. I've had a bond like the Phantom Troupe and wish I was more bold through it.
Killua's mother always wanted a girl but every child she had was biologically male. She raised Kalluto as a girl, dressing him in girls clothing and referring to him as '-chan'(Often associated with girls and young children). Funnily enough, Alluka seems to act feminine of their own accord. (I don't plan on jumping down the rabbit hole to discuss the moral implications of either of these things, I just thought I'd let you know.)
An interesting thing to note is how benolenov is a foil character to Kurapika. They both lost their entire tribe and if the Phantom troupe weren't the ones to kill Kurapika's brethren the group would have been a perfect place for him to find purpose
@@lucag.2551 hxh is still a good anime, but it changed a lot since then, it almost become Yugi-ohh-like on greed island, and a sort of naruto-like in terms of how slow the pace is on that ant arc
I just finished the Yorknew City Arc and it was fantastic. The couple of episodes where The Troupe had Gon and Killua held captive while Kurapika had Chrollo were phenomenally well done. The tension was high and kept me on the edge of my seat.
The thing that makes the spider irredeemable for me is the same as it does for Gon, they are so human wen it comes to each other, crying over a dead comrade, yet they steal and kill without a single emotion, that is also what makes them different from the Zoldyck Family.
Yeah, I ultimately think that they're irredeemable as well, though I do find certain aspects of them sympathetic and endearing. It's an odd but fascinating dynamic.
Fernando Gonçalves it's really interesting for me because personally I don't think anyone is irredeemable but at the same time even myself who is strongly against a totality of justice and for redemption feel like they must die even though I love them all so much (Aw I just can't stick to one emotions or philosophy when I think and talk about hxh XD!)
I don't have a favorite member in specific ... but I'm more interested into knowing the back story of every character , because everyone of them is unique in their own way and has his own dark side that no one knows about yet ... but if I had to choose from them I'd like to choose chrolo because I think that there is a side of his personality that is still hidden and we haven't seen the good in him ... all of what we've seen was his dark side , selfishness , and indifferences in his mysterious character. ...I want to know if you agree with my thoughts..so reply.
I agree, I think there's something fascinating about Chrollo. And although not much is known about his background, I do think we can deduce a lot from his behaviour.
Zhyheim Stroud I don't agree with you because we've seen chrollo in some scenes were he put his will and advantage before his troupe's advantage like in his fight with hisoka in the manga he took shalnark's and cotoby's power and he didn't care if they can't defend themselves from hisoka then he ran away from hisoka with out giving them their nen abilities back so they died because of his selfishness... and the other time in the spiders ark when they were doing the exchange between chrollo and pakunoda.. she cared so much for him and sacrificed her self form him and he didn't even look at her when they walked by each other... (correct me if I'm wrong)... but we know that the bond between the troupe and the leader is too strong . but we didn't have a chance to see that he cares for the troupe.. ... ALexzandxr I want to know your opinion
Baraa qumsan no they willingly gave it to him and don't forget he believes Hisoka is dead, but if course Machi will inform him at the time of their deaths he though Hisoka was dead
Baraa qumsan yeah he didn't look at her because she basically betrayed the spider by putting him before the troupe. Yeah we have him massacring 2000+ mafia members was evidence that he cared for him, same as him wanting to the troupe to Kurapika kill him so the troupe could live lol
am i the only one here who thinks that tha main anthagonists of hxh like meruem, the phantom troupe or chrollo himself are much more cooler charcters than the main characters like gon?
The writer has stated a few times i recall that he specifically makes Gon pretty basic to make all the other characters seem more interesting by contrast. Which seems to work
I’m coming back and watching this because I just got caught up with the manga and I’m still so amazed by the fact that Togashi just keeps getting better and better. I never want it to end.
Personally, I'd love to see Kalluto finding his sence of purpose and belonging with the Troupe by abandoning his original family, in a similar to that of Killua. He harbors many feelings of insecurities like you mentioned, and alot of Killua's insecurites were recognized and fixed, mostly in part thanks to the friendship of Gon. I can see Kalluto doing the same by simply being thre and experiencing what real companionship and trust feels like.
I love the moment Pakunoda 'meows' back at a cat in the rain on her way to her death. We can tell (upon rewatch) that she's already taken this decision. And this little moment of humanity, of a relatable small joy, grounds her so much and causes her death to be that much more painful. She felt human. And like you said, she may not have grown up loved but I think GOn and Killua showing her respect and consideration by not running away meant so much to her, and by extension, to Feitan and Phinks especially. He seemed much less gung-ho on revenge after that, and was clearly grieving when he told Gon and Killua the things he did. Togashi did a beautiful work introducing Meteor City to us first then telling us the Troupe comes from those forgotten people. It strengthens their backstory even with minimal flashbacks and intensifies the loyalty they have to each other and their home. Like in the Chimera Ant arc where Phinks refuses to mercy kill, wanting him home people to die as the fighters they were.
I've always thought that one of the reasons kalluto joined the troupe was because of his inferiority complex too but I think it because everyone in the zoldyck family believes killua has the most potential of all of the zoldycks he probably felt neglected because of that and wanted to prove he was just as good therefore he joined the group that his own father said wasn't worth the money and become there number 2 then in the yorknew arc he got his chance to see them and join them in greed island though in chimera ant arc he realizes that he has a long way to go which is one of the reasons he's one of my favorite characters
Jordan Barkley To "save" killua means he/she wanted to become strong. strong enough to make killua come back to there family. i just can't tell if he/she has the same feelings with their mama and papa who have high hopes for killua to be the flagbearer of the family. this can be seen to the time where Kikyo was not able to stop Killua from leaving their home. and with that, she vowed that if she/he was just strong, strong enough to make him stay. she/he would definitely "save" killua from abandoning his role as their next bearer.
Bonolenov’s story of being driven out is very real. I did some research on uncontacted tribes in South America and I read that there are tons of tribes and they are being driven out by loggers and drug traffickers. There is a man in Brazil who is the last of his tribe after his village was destroyed. There is also a pair of men who lost their entire tribe with one being kidnapped and the other wondered for years until he appeared at a man’s doorstep and then he was later reunited with his nephew. They later went back to the jungle. It is also extremely hard to help them because if we do they would get sick, and they have no trust in white people, and the South American governments are not that focused on protecting them. I find this topic very interesting and I hope these tribes can leave in peace. I hope the amazon fire didn’t hurt them.
As I say to all togashi Fans or just people enjoy his work. I highly recommend Yu Yu hakusho. Chrollo shares and uncanny likeness to Shinobu Sensui. I always find myself being pulled into togashi's villians. The biblical imagery and references in both characters is outstanding yet both characters can't be more different. Why do you make me love your villains, so damn much.
Ya the spirit detective arc is very uninteresting and is filled with your typical shonen stuff. I promise you it picks up and takes off later and your patience will be rewarded. Togashi has even regarded the english dub to his preferred way of watching the show since they captured the characters better.
BulkyNigg Cool, glad to hear that it'll pick up, thanks for letting me know. And I'm not surprised - despite not being too impressed with the show so far, the dub is absolutely fantastic.
Damn I love whole troupe but Phinks, Shalnark and Chrollo are the best in my opinion (also hisoka but noone is counting him :'c) Phinks is muscle head and goes with his own rules but still follows chrollo Shalnark, just as you said in video. I liked him from very first scene he was really positive yet I knew he was killer, really good character development for him. And Chrollo calm smart and strong. Great character. He cares for his friends and yet as chef doesnt go trying to be any higher than them except giving them orders. He didnt hesitate when he was going to die and believed that if he is going to die "it would be totally okay cause my friends wont die too" Damn I freaking love fantom troupe
I know but that doesnt really matter to me since I really like what Hisoka is doing now. Im wondering how will it look with Nobunaga vs Hisoka cause now he will know that the one who had done it to Uvo and others is all Hisoka and his puppets. Too bad Togashi is a lazyass.
I dont see how Hisoka can win nobunaga tho,The only one i think hisoka can kill is frankin,Shizuku.I doubt they kill off new member that quickly anyway so those 2 comfirm ez kill. But whats the reason Hisoka is trying to kill the spiders?i mean he get to fight chrollo and lost,If he wants a rematch,Maybe killing the spiders is one way to call chrollo "hey kill me,i killed ur friends bro" but wtf

Right now I was trying to look for the Knov and Shoot video but it seems you have made it private.
I really really love that video, will be making it public again any time soon?
Your videos are really amazing.
So if I would answer your question that who's my favorite in the Phantom Troupe, I would say:
1- Feitan
2- chrollo Luzifler
3- Shalnark
And sometimes Phinx and Hisoka.
I would also mention the reasons for this, but I can't because you mentioned all the reasons for it.

@@kemosabe2964 I share the same opinion, i don't like them, they are a bunch of murderers, but I do respect they love of each other.
AguyNamedHorse do you have a link to that interview ? I wanna read it too
But most leaders are chosen by the people anyway...how is that anything special?
Ivin3690 you should read the interview. www.reddit.com/r/HunterXHunter/comments/1ic64x/interview_with_togashi_included_in_hxh_no_0/
Ivin3690 same thought
@Cold Violet So Chrollo is special because he isn't a tyrant? That's hardly special. Most leaders aren't tyrants. Idk man, weak reasoning.
I feel like Feitan is everything Killua's father wishes him to be skill, strength, and emotionless wise once he's older. Was it just me who thought that the entire arc?
Darius Chapman Darnell you're right
That's actually a really good point. I've never really thought about Feitan that way but I totally agree.

@@lordmelvin9310 that's not entirely true in fact I would say that's not true at all. It depends on the level. I never said I was okay with the Troupe killing people.

Aleczandxr I thought chrollo was a being from the dark continent since he referred to people as “humans”

His name is literally based after Lucifer the fallen angel
Well the question is, was Lucifer all wrong when he challenged god? Because his punishment was him becoming the „fallen angel“ the counsequence of questioning god the one „who is always right“. But the Story of God and the Devil is the defintion of every Father and son relationship. The one‘s who obey god like michael and the one‘s who question god.
TalesOfNerdia That's really interesting! Thanks for the link.
Tales of Nerdia Sharlank was really annoying, as was Kortopi, Bonolenov, Shizuku and Feitan because of how he talks. Kortopi and Bonolenov were rather useless at least in the Yorknew Arc.
I kinda have dreams about feitan
People sleep on Pakunoda. If it weren't for how she thought of Gon and Killua, Phinks and Feitan might've killed them the second time they met
It's kinda funny how with Kurapika's backstory makes him exactly the type of person who would committed their life to joining the Troupe. The only difference is that the Troupe were the ones to leave him in his situation. Now, he has committed his life to destroying them instead.

I'm not sure how to respond to this other than through saying thank you. It means the world.
this video was pure art. and vocabularies you've used were incredible. I'm still a beginner in english speaking, any advice on how to improve it to your extent?
my study the words and meanings, read a lot
You're right - with some of the villains in this series, it isn't so much "Who do you hate more?" as much as "Who do you like the least?"
It still blows my mind that we seamlessly transition into an arc that has entirely new villains almost as protagonists.
Andrew Cunningham Cheers pal :) Much obliged.
Unpopular opinion: York New Arc is the best arc in the Hunter X Hunter anime, and the Chimera ant arc couldnt get out of its own way.
I know this is an old comment, and you may not have the same opinion anymore, but what do/did you mean with: "the Chimera ant arc couldnt get out of its own way"?
I totally agree I really liked this arc and also heavens arena
Melleberg Awesome Sauce just now seeing this comment. I meant while it started off strong, it slowed down way too much and over explained each situation. For example When Killua and Shoot (I get their names mixed up) where fighting the buff royal guard ant, the narrator explained each movement and aspect of the fight to the point I no longer felt like I was watching an anime but a documentary. I felt the York New arc had a perfect combination of development, explanation, and action.
@@byronjones4635
All right. Yeah, that's pretty common criticism of the Chimera Ant arc.
CA is my favorite arc but I understand your point.
Short term memory is a sign of high intelligence. Shizuku seems like a pretty smart woman, so this would make sense.

It's one of those few scenes in all the media that I've consumed that gives me the same strong feelings everytime without fail.If I ever was so blissed by the gods to meet the staff who worked on this scene, I would slam my head into the ground like inasa yoarashi from boku no hero academia in respect and I'm not even joking (I don't think I'd live if I saw ToGODshi in the flesh as I'd either burn away from witnessing a god walking on earth or I'd have a massive heart attack XD)
I'm glad you seem to agree :D
Also HELL YEAH FINGER GUNS ARE SOME OF THE MOST BADASS SHIT IN ANIME!
And Phinks is a true badass. ;)

The part where Senritsu drew a parallel between her motives and Kurapika's, concluding that they are more similar than different was one of the top moments of the show for me, and I cried when she died :'(
Aleczandxr is my spirit animal
It's an honour.
Walter White Agreed, your shows not bad either walter!
You have the best show ever
I've been waiting for this for literal months, You are an absolute godsend and you're gonna be huge very soon my man.
Wow. Thanks very much. Hopefully it was worth the wait!
They aren't/ don't act as a family. They are legit a distinct group in every way shape and form.
If they expand on each character like backstory etc. They’ll be interesting
Dillon Haggett Bonolenov, worthless? Have u watched the Chimera Ant arc?

This encapsulates exactly why I loved the Yorknew Arc so much, and why the Phantom Troupe are a brilliant bunch of characters.
The Phantom Troupe is one of the reasons why i love the Yorknew arc
No shit they’re the main idea of the arc
Good level-headed analysis. Substance over form. Character development is one thing HxH is good at. And that requiem scene really gave me goosebumps. I remember I was overtaken by unexplainable feeling of sense of loss, grief and the same time retribution. Though their selfish actions can never justified in any reason there be. It can however be understood. Thanks for this.
That Requiem is one of my favourite scenes of the medium, just so chilling. And no worries at all, thanks very much to you for watching.
you chose the perfect tune for that background, this episode in particular was one of the best hxh had to offer, man the death of that hunter with the barret was just dead awful, still sends chills down my spine
This arc was absolutely my favorite. :) I hated the Troupe at first, then was rooting for them close to the end of the series.
It's such a fantastic arc. Chimera Ant was most complex but this one was the most enjoyable to watch for me. It flows like water.
My favorite part of the Ant arc was when we got a snapshot of what the Troupe was doing.
Best anime ever, you wanna fight about it

I consider YYH much better.
M3rtyville no way I watched yuyu last summer and it was a 7/10, the ending was so rushed and it had some dull arcs. Hunter is a 8/10 for me and I wouldn’t even say I’m that I’m big of a fan
Shalnark was always one of my favorite members I’m actually not sure why but there is something about him that just makes me love the guy
I like him because he reminds me a bit of Judeau from Berserk
The part about Bonolenov just makes the fact that Killua, Gon, and Kurapika would all be part of, and would enjoy being part of the Phantom Troupe if the circumstances were different, even more true.

Uvogin: Sigh...music to my ears. 😁
Hello, thank you very much for your work. Your analysis is by far some of the best and most insightful I have seen in the anime community on UA-cam. Your videos are excellent resources. Keep up your profound work.
Thanks so much, Kieran. I really appreciate it.
The Phantom Troupe is one of the most powerful organisations in the HxH world
Absolutely love them, and I feel bad because I do.
Some examples:
Feitans nen ability is one of my favorite things about the anime.
Yeah his nen ability is pretty cool
Great video! I cant wait till more people watch your videos. You have a bright future on this platform!
Cheers! Exposure is hard but growth has been steady so I'm optimistic!
Aleczandxr great to hear! Ill be sure to tell my friends about your channel, cause its great!
FrodoBaggins1926 Thanks so much!
Kalluto is a he 😳?
ℓev yes he is
ℓev yes.
I suppose it is funny because it would have made the most sense to make Alluka the girl-boy instead of Kalluto
Just Someone No spoilers, but Alluka is special case.
An interesting thing to note is how benolenov is a foil character to Kurapika. They both lost their entire tribe and if the Phantom troupe weren't the ones to kill Kurapika's brethren the group would have been a perfect place for him to find purpose
the york new arc, is still my favorite hxh arc.
It’s so underrated. So good.
@@lucag.2551 hxh is still a good anime, but it changed a lot since then, it almost become Yugi-ohh-like on greed island, and a sort of naruto-like in terms of how slow the pace is on that ant arc
props for this video series. i love when people study my favorite stories and break down their essence in a technical way
Thanks pal, glad you enjoy it.
Baraa qumsan I don't believe he's selfish as he'll put the Troupe before himself and will even die for them
I agree, I think there's something fascinating about Chrollo.
I can only imagine how many times you've watch the anime and read the manga to come up with essays like this.
So well spoken, plus your structure of the sentences that come out of your mouth is amazing.
Thank you.
I love how they ended the yorknew arc, pakunoda's death, the aftermath, the wrap
am i the only one here who thinks that tha main anthagonists of hxh like meruem, the phantom troupe or chrollo himself are much more cooler charcters than the main characters like gon?
The writer has stated a few times i recall that he specifically makes Gon pretty basic to make all the other characters seem more interesting by contrast. Which seems to work
daniarjo2 No I think so to.
daniarjo2 he is a kid, the other characters already developed, gon is still young, his father is pretty cool
daniarjo2 villains are almost always more interesting than main characters. Of course we all know alucard from hellsing is the greatest protagonist.
The101nega Gon is nothing like luffy if anything luffy is rip off Goku stated by Oda himself.
I’m coming back and watching this because I just got caught up with the manga and I’m still so amazed by the fact that Togashi just keeps getting better and better. I never want it to end.
Wow I’m five minutes in and I already know you outdid yourself. Good job man
Really like this stuff man, these videos are dope! Hope we're gonna see more of Bonolenov, dude's design is to unique not to be explored more
Thanks! I hope so too, I think Togashi will explore him a bit more before his (probable) inevitable death.
I wonder who would win in a fight between the Full Zoldyck Family and the Phantom Troupe. Please like so he can see
@I Am The One Who Knocks She would be on the zoldyck side. Family over friends. How do you thinknthe battle will go though?
@@alvanngando3083 he*

@@jollystonks918 Yh but he will fight with the zoldycks
@Halostorm No they dont
This hits so much differently after reading the latest few chapters. 🥺
Thrifty Bee I like him too but he's still low in my list but he's a great character with a lot of potential
Thrifty Bee Didn't he say he wanted to "save" Killua?
Jordan Barkley
To "save" killua means he/she wanted to become strong. strong enough to make killua come back to there family. i just can't tell if he/she has the same feelings with their mama and papa who have high hopes for killua to be the flagbearer of the family. this can be seen to the time where Kikyo was not able to stop Killua from leaving their home. and with that, she vowed that if she/he was just strong, strong enough to make him stay. she/he would definitely "save" killua from abandoning his role as their next bearer.
Girl with the vacuum is sooo cute
Lmao
I think this is, no contest, the best arc so far in the series.
It's the arc I enjoyed the most, for sure.
YOOOO YOU'RE BACK!!!! I LOVE YOUR CONTENT SO MUCH IM SO GLAD YOU GOT YOUR VIDEOS BACK!!!
The final fantasy music really makes the mood in this video. Well done!
Thanks!
The first time I saw feitan... I knew he was my fav😳
I plan to get a spider tattoo (same one they all have) with a number 2 in the middle. Feitan is beyond badass.
I hope the amazon fire didn’t hurt them.
your videos are AMAZING
Much appreciated my friend.
You are welcome!!
Thank you for these videos. Can't tell you how much I appreciate them
*Hisoka casually walks out with Kortopi's head in his hand*
As I say to all togashi Fans or just people enjoy his work. I highly recommend Yu Yu hakusho. Chrollo shares and uncanny likeness to Shinobu Sensui. I always find myself being pulled into togashi's villians. The biblical imagery and references in both characters is outstanding yet both characters can't be more different. Why do you make me love your villains, so damn much.
I'm watching YYH right now, actually. On episode 19 or 20, something like that.
Oh your not even at the good parts yet. I wont spoil, but the next arcs are pretty well written. Also Dub or Sub
BulkyNigg Dub. And I'm glad that I'm not at the good parts yet, because I'm not really that impressed so far, quite frankly. Hahah.
Damn I love whole troupe but Phinks, Shalnark and Chrollo are the best in my opinion (also hisoka but noone is counting him :'c)
Phinks is muscle head and goes with his own rules but still follows chrollo
Shalnark, just as you said in video. I liked him from very first scene he was really positive yet I knew he was killer, really good character development for him.
And Chrollo calm smart and strong. Great character. He cares for his friends and yet as chef doesnt go trying to be any higher than them except giving them orders. He didnt hesitate when he was going to die and believed that if he is going to die "it would be totally okay cause my friends wont die too"
Damn I freaking love fantom troupe
also this video was great, gj dude nice entertaintment you got there
Shalnark got mutilated by hisoka though. So thats one dead.
Laoya puka in Shalnarks defence he didn't have his nen ability
