Hey guys! So this video is essentially a much better presented, more insightful and more cohesive version of the Phantom Troupe video I released in 2016. That one was in need of an update of sorts, so I thought to put together a short little piece communicating the resonance of the Spider. I kept the individual character sections out because I felt like adding something like that would make this one feel bloated and unfocused and take away from the message I was trying to present. Anyways, hope you enjoy this one.

The scene where Pakunoda meowed at the kitty always makes me very sad, it was the moment that I realised how much I liked her and that she was going to die
I love the Phantom Troupe, despite how popular the main characters might be, the villains in Togashi's works leave a big impact on the viewers, which makes them just as interesting. Thank you for your hard work! Making and editing these videos must take a lot of time and dedication :D
@@drillmachine7 And Pariston, 4th Prince and some other villains from the current arc look really intresting. I swear, I've never seen any author better than Togashi when it comes to writing villains !
For me the most disturbing thing about the troupe is their lack of enjoyment. There are a few moments where they are happy but overall they seem to be severely marked by their hard lives, but it is so natural for them because they presumably have never known any other way of living. It's quite interesting that Kalluto seems to fit in even though he has a family but Killua just wouldn't because he has that strong desire for happiness and is fully capable to feel it.
the phantom troupe reached out to me even better than the entire rest of the plot. the need to know that everyone acknowledges your existence resonates deeply within me. after all, we both felt as if nobody gave a damn about us for too much of our lives. these people were so well written and portrayed.
I love that each character has their own ideology in life and it isn’t easily swayed by the “ main character”. Seen that way to many times in naruto and it’s “talk no jutsu”
They really are the greatest group of villains in anime. They commit such horrific acts, yet their humanity and sense of purpose makes them sympathetic and respectable on a profound level. One can only hope we get a proper conclusion to their stories
The Spiders are quite cold individuals, probably because they built solid walls around their hearts. I believe Chrollo led them to care deeply about each other's life by creating the rule that the Spider is more important than the individual legs. Somehow, he gave them an excuse to protect each other and bond together. They are working towards a common goal, and that's what make them a family. Well, I think there are more reasons as well, but I like this theory. Thanks a lot for this one, I almost screemed when I saw you posted another Troupe-related video
Honestly mate, all your videos are truly outstanding and we are so lucky to have you share your ideas on an already awesome show! Thank you for all your time and effort that you put into making these; it is very much appreciated!
The Phantom Troupe are truly profound and the origin and concept for them is truly haunting and beautiful. Lonely, in a way, but bittersweet. There's nothing like them in anime.
What makes me love HxH is the complexity of every character, mainly the villains. And even tho Mereum and the Royal Gaurds along with Chrollo and the Phantrom Troupe are villains who do terrible things I dont see them as just evil like most other shonen villains.
I feel the same about the villains. I think , that's because the main characters aren't good either. Everyone in the series has a reason. Sometimes it also feels like, that the main characters are more villainous than the actual antagonists.
@@Aleczandxr The older ones from 2016 were my very first introduction to your channel, and I must in fact have watched them more by simple value of them having been around for that much longer. A while back I saw your initial video on the phantom troupe before I got into hunterXhunter. Now I have started it and while I am still not that far, I look forward to binging all of your analysis videos when I catch up.
despite being one of my 2 favourite piece of media, I never actually rewatched the whole series, but I rewatched episode 41 multiple times , and basically only to watch this one scene where the PT gathers and gets the first order from chrollo to steal everything from the auction. the shots with the members half-smiling while Uvo screams always fills me with joy ( 2:27 ), just the fact that these people found a place in the world and are so happy is just so liberating to watch.

The way this group is written and shown is so charismatic and interesting that even though I condemn most of the actions they perform, I still could watch them do that all day.
Thank you for such moving insight on one of my favorite shows ever. I think there's an interesting comparison between Chrollo's desire for this "existence" and Bojack Horseman's desire "to be seen". While Bojack's self image was dysfunctionally constructed by abusive parenting and celebrity culture, Chrollo didn't even have the basic societal luxuries that are often lauded as the pride and product of capitalism, like shelter or medicine or or hardly anything recognizable from the "developed" (colonizers') world. And so while Bojack at least could at least find some superficial catharsis through acting, as the Horse from the very famous 90s sitcom _Horsin' Around_ (hold your applause), Chrollo was left to fester in squalor, orphaned and forgotten by a world he could do little more than grow to loathe. And yet, both live their lives in pursuit of "recognition," whether by playing the game and garnering fame for the sake of acknowledgment and validation by society, or by making an existentialist declaration to the heavens that they *will* leave their mark on history like a red-hot, cast iron brand on Cthulhu's ass.

Yup, the villains in HxH always have a so deep humanisation, when I try to look at the layers below the first one, I tend to forget that they are villains
Phantom troupe: heart cold killers I truly love. Never thought a villain group could have such great dynamic like a true family and is rarely seen in other works of fiction (other examples La Squadra(Jojo), Shishigumi(Beastars), etc.) but the first one that I got to see and still is my favorite is a phantom troupe.
@@easschung9442 No doubt about it, I am just comparing that family bond of Phantom troupe that can be seen in bout La Squadra and Shishigumi, but not so much in other villain groups. I do love La Squadra and Shishigumi because of their own reasons, but just like when I compare any other anime with HxH, other anime villain groups are no match for them.
honestly I like Pakunoda's final words, she wants the deaths to end with her, which shows that even though she may have squabbled with her troupe members that she deeply cared about them, I feel like a villain that is similar to her in some concepts is Tier Harribel from bleach, both women understand what sacrifice is and what it means, Tier uses the sacrifices of her subordinates in order to gain knowledge about the enemies, whilst Pakunoda sacrifices herself in order to help her team out. And to quote Tier on this; "Our existence is built upon the noble sacrifices made. Instead, you fall in battle from trying to protect your subordinates. My subordinates were not simply defeated. They left behind markers for me, on how to carry on the fight. If I had lost, my subordinates' sacrifices would have all been for nothing. I hold within me the resolve of those who sacrificed their lives." I feel like this quote can also be applied to the phantom troupe to some extent as well, Uvogin, Pakunoda, Shalnark, and Kortopi were not simply defeated they all left some sort of marker for the troupe. Also side note Pakunoda is best girl, this isnt an opinion its fact, there is no disagreeing

I found Yorknew really cool and similar to Chimera Ant in that the villain group is effectively the protagonist of the arc. However, this is much more subtle in Yorknew because it's not a clear redemption arc like with Chimera Ant. It still feels like you're meant to root for the Phantom Troupe, for reasons well explained in this video. Often the "heroes" fighting against the Phantom Troupe are even portrayed negatively. This is extremely obvious with Kurapika's role in the fates of Uvogin and Pakunoda.
Melody said that Chrollo's heartbeat was that of a man who is used to death and has accepted it, that is why despite being captured by Kurapika who wanted to kill him he thought of it as no different than a coffe break and only when the Spider as a whole is threatened does he feel anxiety and stress. Its pretty twisted really, no different than religious fanatics who believe that their death is of no importance so long as its for their creed, but at the same time you can't help but respect Chrollo for his absolute dedication to his organization. I don't believe the Troupe sets out to commit their acts of murder and genocide as those aren't really their main goal, its more of an effect than a reason. They wanted the Scarlet Eyes so they killed the Kurta. They wanted the mafia's merchandise so they slaughter them and rob them, they need information so they torture. Some members do enjoy these acts of thievery and murder but they never set out to do them just for the sake of it as Chrollo said he doesn't like/enjoy it. If I were to give it an analogy it would be an office worker driving to his office, he may enjoy driving his car but his goal is to get to the office so he can get his salary at the end of the month.
Hey guys! So this video is essentially a much better presented, more insightful and more cohesive version of the Phantom Troupe video I released in 2016. Never thought a villain group could have such great dynamic like a true family and is rarely seen in other works of fiction (other examples La Squadra(Jojo), Shishigumi(Beastars), etc.) but the first one that I got to see and still is my favorite is a phantom troupe.
Phantom Troupe are waaay better than La Squadra, and better than the Shishigumi too
@@easschung9442 No doubt about it, I am just comparing that family bond of Phantom troupe that can be seen in bout La Squadra and Shishigumi, but not so much in other villain groups.
I do love La Squadra and Shishigumi because of their own reasons, but just like when I compare any other anime with HxH, other anime villain groups are no match for them.
@@lazarlemajic4926 True, true
Alec the guy too type the wrong essay in English and still get an A

My body is ready
honestly I like Pakunoda's final words, she wants the deaths to end with her, which shows that even though she may have squabbled with her troupe members that she deeply cared about them, I feel like a villain that is similar to her in some concepts is Tier Harribel from bleach, both women understand what sacrifice is and what it means, Tier uses the sacrifices of her subordinates in order to gain knowledge about the enemies, whilst Pakunoda sacrifices herself in order to help her team out. And to quote Tier on this;
"Our existence is built upon the noble sacrifices made. Instead, you fall in battle from trying to protect your subordinates. My subordinates were not simply defeated. They left behind markers for me, on how to carry on the fight. If I had lost, my subordinates' sacrifices would have all been for nothing. I hold within me the resolve of those who sacrificed their lives."
I feel like this quote can also be applied to the phantom troupe to some extent as well, Uvogin, Pakunoda, Shalnark, and Kortopi were not simply defeated they all left some sort of marker for the troupe.
Also side note Pakunoda is best girl, this isnt an opinion its fact, there is no disagreeing
Another video instantly watched upon receiving the notification ! Perfection.
What a combo, the best anime ever and an amazing content creator.
My personal favorite arc
It’s always a pleasure to see a new HXH video from you! Can’t wait to see how the dark continent brings this all to a conclusion
Hope to see you back on Twitter whenever you're feeling up to it!
Thanks. That means a lot.
uhh thank goodness your still uploading,im new here so i saw 3 hunter videos and i instantly fell in love with your videos, then i saw last video 2 weeks ago and i panic ed lul, well at any rate, keep on the good work!
Glad you enjoy them! But just so you know, two weeks is about the standard between uploads with my style. These videos take tons of time and work to make, so I can’t pump them out every two days. I’d also recommend following my second channel, which has some videos that this channel doesn’t have.
@@Aleczandxr well, let me refraze that,im new here,so when i saw few of your videos i fell in love with them and when i say your last video 2 weeks ago and noting after until now i dint know what to make of it,you see 3 other channels that i really like died these last few weeks so i expected the worst since im new here, but now i know you put a lot of time and effert into these videos(no wonder there so good)ill keep what you said in mined, thanks for clearing things up.
This is extremely obvious with Kurapika's role in the fates of Uvogin and Pakunoda.
i enjoy videos like these i feel like i know more about them through this
Girl just hurt my heart a bit, so glad you came through to cheer me up. Fav UA-camr mate. Love ya
All the best with everything dude.
Gonna save this content for tonight looks great mang.
Amazing video
The phantom troupe are my favourite organization in anime
