Honda CT 125 An Exhaust System That Makes A Difference

  • I've been wondering why I didn't get more of an increase in power from my Diablo exhaust system. Recently, I found another mega-phone type exhaust system that had a slightly larger head pipe and to top it off, I could use my stock exhaust pipes heat shields for it...... This video lets you in on how it worked.......

    I'm sure there are those of you that read the comments, thank you for taking the time to do that, I try to read all of them and answer them as well. However, there are those that just have to comment on here about how I should just leave the "Scooter" alone and "it's really not a motorcycle" and more that cuts the bike down. AND PISSES ME OFF. I appreciate all of the things that people have done to this little bike, the fun factor of it is beyond words to describe it. Even with the short falls the bike came from the factory with, it was really fun to ride, I've just made mine a lot more fun for me to ride. The nice thing about that, is there are thousands of people out there doing the same to theirs..... All I can say is: Go For It..........

    UA-cam suggested this one yesterday, so I watched it aging.. a real classic with useful information. I think this is the same exhaust that was on El Diablo when I rode it a year ago, but now I need to watch a few more Lazy Dog videos to be sure. I had my second cataract surgery today, and it might have worked. I won't know for a couple of days. Still looking for your Enduro video. I got a brief clip form Daniel, and when you went through the "log fan", I had you in the top 10% for sure. You were the only one to make it through there cleanly,. Way beyond my skill level.

      I should let you know that as of now, there is not very much that can be done to the Gen 2 engine to gain power on it. There are small engine hop-up shops all over Thailand as the small bikes have been in SE Asia for decades. However, when Honda introduced the Gen 2 engine last year on the Dax, it was brand new and not very much interest here to hop-up the Dax engine so it appears no one is even trying to do it. We now have three Gen 2 bikes in our little riding group and tried to see how we could get a little more snap out of the bike. We tried to just change out the countershaft sprocket from a stock 14T to a 13T. Well, Honda made changes on the Gen 2 CT125 engine from its origins from the Dax engine to where we could not get any 13T sprockets to fit the CT Gen 2 countershaft and retainer clip set up. So, we went to the rear wheel which by the way is still a hold over part from the Honda Wave 125i. We installed a 42T rear sprocket and a slightly longer chain to accommodate the four more teeth from the stock 38T rear sprocket. This improved the snap on the lower end of the RPM's and helped with acceleration a lot. We currently are trying to acquire a completely new exhaust system from the same company that built the pipes we are using on two of our Gen 1 engined bikes...... Good luck with your new bike, they are a blast to ride, but right now, there aren't much modifications that you can do to improve the power of the Gen 2 bikes...... Hope this helps and thanks for the comment....

      Took it out finally and did a speed run just to see what it will do, hit 102 KPH and still had throttle to go when I ran out of straight road ahead of me..... I'm thinking it'll do 105 KPH with no head wind and flat straight road..... Probably won't get a chance to do that as not many straight pieces of highway around where I live that isn't under construction....... I shot some video of the test ride, went up a small mountain and it pulled strong when I asked it to and some dirt riding and putting around in second gear was smooth and power anytime I needed..... @TeamDNFracing  2 роки тому +1

      Mike, thanks for the comment. This exhaust tucks in closer than my Diablo does, which actually surprised me it did. The reason it looks out there a bit is the stock exhaust heat shields are spaced away from the pipe at least an inch. Makes things look fatter.... It kind of looks like the stock exhaust until you get around the rear of it and look at it from the top and back..... On the short test ride I did, it sure felt like it had a lot more speed than the Diablo did. My guess, and I'm going to find out for sure, is this might run well over 100KPH, which means maybe I can get the bike up above the 60 to 65 MPH range....... I hope it does, just to say it will do it.... It definitely has a much better pull than before......

    I'm pretty sure that what you called a "power bomb" is a catalytic converter. I appreciate your videos because I'm thinking of buying a CT 125 in the Philippines and making some of the mods you've done. But I would try to have the catalytic converter welded into whatever pipe setup I install. Motos are very polluting in 3rd world countries due to lack of regulation, probably more polluting than a typical car, which is apparent any time a little bike passes me on the road and I need to hold my breath for a little while until the exhaust dissipates.

    • @TeamDNFracing
      @TeamDNFracing  Рік тому

      Yes it is the catalytic converter for the stock pipe. If you plan on using it, you will still be running a very restricted head pipe size and that is where the power increase came from on my bike is by using a larger unrestricted head pipe. I think you'd be better off finding an aftermarket exhaust that has a catalytic converter incorporated in the design that will not hinder the exhaust flow like the stock converter does........ My bad on labeling the Cat the power bomb which it is not..... Good catch on your part......

      Great comment, that's a lot for me to answer. Thanks for the compliment on my bike, I always appreciate those. Yes, Thailand is a beautiful country to live in and the tropical climate is a must for old farts like me, the food suits me well also. We are still in the rainy season, so lots of rain this time of year, easier riding in the dry season.... As for the CT 150, I've heard some rumbling that it is in the works, but no confirmation yet. As soon as I get that, then I'll be making another video on it and then try to get Honda to let me test one here in Thailand as soon as they come out... Hope..... I've also not heard anything about a retuned map, but I do know that there are shops here in Thailand that are doing it to spunk up the performance on the stock engine. I can also tell you from experience, that on my bike with the BBK it came with a different injector for it. That injector is right off the Honda PCX 150 and that is why I get plenty of fuel without having to re-map the ECU. Something that someone needs to try with a free flowing exhaust and air filter.... That alone could wake this little engine up and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg to do it..... The reason I didn't mention the exhaust manufacturer is because I don't know who made this pipe yet. Still researching that. I bought it from an on line shopping network and there were several different shops selling the pipe, but there was no name of the brand. I believe it is possible that it came from Japan, not sure yet, but when I find out, I'll be doing another video on it. I do not know any Import/Export companies here in Thailand. That is something that might jeopardize my Visa status and I'm not messing with that..... Don't really want to get deported...... My pleasure to do the videos, I like making them.......

      The name of the exhaust pipe is Murazaki pipe and the name of the company that sells them is Murazaki Shop and I got them from a home shopping network called Shopee.co.th Look them up on the internet and type CT125 on the search bar. Lots of items for sale for the CT. The rear sprocket is a 42T made by Jomthai here in Thailand and is made for the Honda Wave 125i which used the same rear wheel assembly as the CT125. The Gen 1 and Gen 2 CT125 both use the same rear wheel assembly so the Wave 125i sprocket for the rear wheel fits them both. The front sprocket on the Gen 2 CT125 is new for 2023 so a 2023 Honda CT125 sprocket is the only one that will fit as of now. No company here has made them available as of yet. The swing arm is made by a company called NUI Racing Project and is also available on Shopee.co.th You will save 5 pounds of weight with the new swing arm over the heavy stock one.... Hope this helps...

    I have been going to the little country of Belize over here since 1980 . It has a tropical 🌦 rainy and dry season also . Just the mountain area is further south .
    If became available, would an exhaust system like this be beneficial to a stock engine ?
    If there was a " question " in the video 📹 , I missed it !

    • @TeamDNFracing
      @TeamDNFracing  2 роки тому +1

      I really can't say whether it would be beneficial to a stock engine or not, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. the big advantage this pipe has over stock is when the exhaust gases go into the pipe itself. The header pipe is larger and has a smooth transition from the cylinder head to the exhaust head pipe. I think I mentioned in the video that this pipe is just like doing a port job on a bikes intake and exhaust system. the smoother the transition, the better the power will be. Less turbulence creates more power. That is why a free flowing intake and a free flowing exhaust optimizes the power available in the engine....... It should be better.......

      There is a motorcycle accessory store here in Thailand that had these pipes built to their specific specs by an independent shop. They have not put a name on the pipe. However, if you go to Shopee.co.th which is the home shopping network that I purchased the pipe form, you can see the pipe for sale on there, get the picture of it onto your computer and then go to the shops Facebook page and inquire if they will sell and ship one to you. The name of the shop that sales them is Murazaki Shop. Mention that you saw the pipe on my UA-cam Chanel and they may just set you up with one. Now, I am pretty sure it will help out the performance of the stock engine, but I don't know for sure because we have never installed this pipe on a stock engine, just the ones with the Big Bore Kit on them. One of my riding buddies, Daniel installed a pipe from Maruwaki on his bike before he went with the Big Bore Kit and it really did improve his performance, enough so that in a drag race with my BBK and his stock engine, he stayed with me in 1st and 2nd gears before my extra HP started to pull away from him in 3rd and 4th.... I just recently bought my CT 125 n it's an amazing motorcycle. Unfortunately there too many aftermarket parts here in the states. I've been ordering mostly from Thailand. I wanted to know if you could somehow send a link or guide me towards who I can buy the same exhaust you have and I also want to do the 142cc upgrade. If you have any info that can help me find those 2 upgrades I would be very appreciative. Thank you for all of yr videos. Yr bike is a little beast. I love it

      I hope this info helps you out. The pipe is sold by a shop here in Thailand called Murazaki Shop and they have a Facebook page with listings for many of their aftermarket items. They have them for many of the small engine bikes sold here in SE Asia. I purchased the pipe from an on-line shopping network here in Thailand called Shopee.co.th You can find the pipe in there, but I'm not sure if they will ship to the US. As for the Big Bore Kit (BBK) the one I use is from another shop in Thailand called iTimgarage and they also have a Facebook page. You may be able to buy direct from that Facebook site, not sure. I purchased the BBK from the same on-line shopping network. Here are some alternatives for the BBK: Kitaco, Takagawa, Koso and Yuminashi. I've heard some problems were found with the Takagawa kits from a few people on a CT forum. So, be careful looking into that one. However, the Yuminashi kit is highly recommended by people on this same CT forum. They can be reached at www.yuminashi.eu and the kit #12103-K26-5613A Hope this helps and keep watching my channel...

The Triumph is doing great, trying to do some scouting on a long trip through the Northern mountains of Chiang Mai Province to ride with a few friends, but the rains have been raising hell with those plans. There is not a name on the exhaust system, but it is made by a shop here in Thailand and distributed by a retail shop supplier called Miyazaki. They have a Facebook page, look it up. They offer a lot of products on this Facebook page but also offer them on an on line shopping network here in Thailand. Sadly, this network does not allow them to ship outside of Thailand. The US cost of the pipe is $200 US. Very reasonable price. Look them up and message them and see if you can buy direct from them. My understanding from them is they made a set of specs for the pipe and have a shop build them. They are selling a lot of them so you may be able to get them to ship direct to you. The pipe is a big improvement over the Diablo pipe I did have on it. Robert, one of my riding buddies just bought one of these pipes for his bike. When he gets back off his Merchant Marine stint at the end of May, we will be doing a video on the installation of it...... Thanks for the comment....

    My God man the little bike only has what, 8 HP to start with. So ANY aftermarket pipe you waste your money on will at best make a couple of tenths of a HP difference which most likely you will never notice. MAYBE another MPH if you are lucky. Yeah I know you can "feel" the difference...just like back when we were kids and attached playing cards to the rear spokes on our bicycles and got another 10 MPH out of them because of the motor sound. All you accomplished is to make more noise...just what this planet need from the humans. DUH!!!

    • @TeamDNFracing
      @TeamDNFracing  2 місяці тому

      Well geez Wally, who shit in your cornflakes this morning. The reason this exhaust makes a difference is it has a 19 mm head pipe on it. Yes, it is only 2mm larger than the stock one, but hey, where only talking 8 HP from stock here. So, with the Big Bore Kit, better air flow (much more O2 going into the combustion chamber) a larger fuel injector (again, much more fuel going into the combustion chamber) means you have to have a way for all of that combusted gasses to escape. So, we needed a better exhaust system, this one made a difference. Not just in performance but oh yes, the sound is so sweet. So, enough about performance or should I put up what that puny little 8 HP engine puts out now... Yea, I'll put it up. Here are the Dyno numbers: 12.08 HP and 11.74 NM of torque. I didn't do this to go faster, I could care less on how fast the bike is. What matters to me is where I ride the bike off road in the mountain areas around Chiang Mai, Thailand and to do it safely, it needed more Torque to go with that HP increase. Now I have it and I'll be the first one to admit. Honda missed the boat on this engine, it barely has enough power to get out of it's own way, let alone climb steep hilly single track terrain. You do what you want to do to your bike and I'm very happy with the way my bike now performs and especially the way it sounds.... So, let me know how your bike runs and what you've done to it to make it a "BETTER" machine, because mine definitely is better than stock....
