    Pay very close attention to Dr Scott keeping a sideways posture to the dog, and never meeting direct eye contact after that first "awoo woo woo" in response to Digby barking at the start. Lots of dogs, direct eye contact with someone they don't trust sets them off on defensive. It's an aggressive posture, a contributor to dog-on-dog violence as well at dog parks when unfamiliar dogs come face to face all of a sudden. Dr Scott just vibing, and desensitizing Digby to some non-confronting chest touching, helped give Digby the opportunity to start trusting him. I know that feeling well, the breakthrough moments with dogs. Fills the heart with so much love.

      Absolutely, though also lots of training and socialization. I see a lot of my own Rottweiler in Digby and I wonder about what could’ve happened if he’d been adopted by someone who didn’t know how to handle him. Got him as a puppy and started intense training from the moment I brought him home, hired a trainer to help out because my boy was a very stubborn and dominant dog. I know that if I hadn’t done that training with him than he would absolutely be aggressive and dangerous. But he is an absolute sweetheart and loves people, especially kids, it’s cool to see him go from his normal rambunctious bouncy self to a calm and gentle giant around small children.
      Anyways, sorry for the rant lol. Love, understanding and teaching them good manners. It all depends on the dog but as an owner you need to set your dog up for success and that means making sure that you can handle the dog your taking on, because that dogs success depends on you

      Rottweilers and pit bulls or any type of big dog breed that is supposedly aggressive they're really not, Rottweilers were actually made to be working dogs like on a farm and stuff and pitbulls were nanny dogs for a while till people started to fight him so it's just interesting how people say certain breeds aggressive when they're really not it's all how you raise the dog it's the people that have these animals that don't take care of them and don't treat him right that's how they get aggressive always do research before u judge the book

    People thought we were crazy asking our young rescue dog for permission to pick her up. She was no where near as fearful as this dog. We began asking her permission for most things and she began to let us know what she wanted and needed. She is very bonded to us and us to her. Small things and time make a big difference. • @nerdycurls6253
      @nerdycurls6253 Рік тому +9

      @@carlgustafemilmannerheim5661 it's not really asking permission but telling the dog what you are doing. For example I have a rescue who hated touch (poor thing was abused) so everytime I needed to touch him I'd say out loud "head" than touch that spot, "paw" grab his paw ect. He learned what the words meant and could finally understand I wasn't going to hurt him. I don't need to call out body parts anymore, but for a vet in particular its a huge help for handling. It looks like your asking permission but youve actually just taught your dog to relax.

      You are simply wrong. Humans bred rottweilers to be crazy loyal and protective and family only for literal centuries. This is their nature. They are fantastic family pets but it's not easy to initiate someone into the pack. I'm sick of people dismissing this breeds nature and being surprised when it wants nothing to do with anyone it doesn't trust. Rotties are emotional on purpose. Theya re loud and aggressive on purpose. Their nature has a purpose. This behavior has nothing to d with the owners. The breed is supposed to be like this. Stop fooling yourself. Not every dog is supposed to be a suburban pet.

    I feel sorry for the dog… get the feeling they didn’t socialise it properly and it’s now developed a fear of strangers and new environments, this dog must be so stressed. I’m always surprised people get large breeds like this and don’t understand the great effort it takes to socialise, train and condition them. One day this dog may slip out of its muzzle or get out of the yard or get a surprise visit from a neighbour and if it gets fearful enough it will bite, as owners you can’t always avoid a dogs triggers, methods should be put in place from trainers to recondition and hopefully rehabilitate his behaviour and teach the owners how to better handle their dog

    I have had two dogs that i got with issues. One was absused by someone who was bald and old so he particularly hates them. I have trained him for years but to no avail. Sometimes you also have to adapt to your dogs issues. He gets a muzzle and kenneled now around people he might bite. It should never be a death sentence. He lives a happy life. We still try to train him to like bald older people but im also not going to have him put down for something thay was never his fault. He's a lovely dog and deserves life ❤️

    Dr Scott, thank you for not putting down Digby. So often pet parents do not know the correct strategy with their pets and the pets are not given even a little chance. All it takes is patience, love and right handling. God bless you for your dedication and all you do. God bless all our animals too

    I have a German Shepherd rescue, he has never been socialized and never left a back yard for 3 years. I was his last resort before being put down,. I love him to bits even though he is extremely strong and an absolute handfull when we are on our walks. After 2 years he still pulls like a freight train when he spots another dog but slowly he is relenting and understanding that there is no danger.

    Dogs with PTSD from trauma in the household will respond just like humans in similar homes. ❤ We need therapy, love & kindness. Thank you for the excellent lesson! 😊

    My parents had a Rottweiler they got after I had graduated and moved out. They never trained him, socialized him or disciplined him. Then they wondered why he was so aggressive. Dogs need a sense of purpose and they need to know who's in charge or else their anxiety will come out as aggression. I was so happy when they re-homed him to a man who was better equipped to give Jax what he needed! I kept in touch with the guy for a few years until I joined the Air Force and it was nice to see Jax finally happy!
