- Hi. My name is Marlin :) I'm a cat....raised by dogs. And I think I'm a dog. I live in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with my mom, Caroline Jarvis, and dad, Mack Hopkins....and they are about to get married! I have 4 dog siblings - Buxton, Hattie, Shady and Buoy. They've taught me everything I know. My favorite things are going to the beach to go swimming in the ocean, jumping on the boat to go fishing, eating fresh seafood, and swimming in the canal. I'm pretty much living the dream! Follow @carolinejarvis on instagram to follow my adventures!

Marlin looking at his reflection in the water bowl thinking: I see no family resemblance, I wonder if they were adopted?

Marlin (knowing she's a dog): "Why do I look like a cat?"
... not that the dogs do look alike / are the same breed...
"This is our sibling Marlin. He may bark a little different, but that's because he is a European, we think."
𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭: Thanks for all the likes, ladies and gents.
😂😂😂
European on the teee. 🤣
Funny you should mention that. I have know several Europeans as well and they all meow.
Don't you mean 'COUSIN'?
😆❤
These dogs are so respectful of Marlin's tiny size. Life is beautiful.
Agreed ❤😂😊
❤ perfect pussycat, don't you think?💞
They really are, such sweethearts being so gentle and cautious
The evolution to the environment of peace. Even animals can evolve, as long as basic needs are met.❤
They remember when they were once that size
Something so spiritual when Marlin is loved by his dog buddies and humans. It makes
the world seem like such a good place. Even I feel safer.
Love is the answer
It is spritual! Imagine a world where all humans act like Marlin and his dog friends?
Awww, see? Cats and dogs can get along and cats can love water, they should make a live-action feature film adapation of Marlin's story related to The One and Only Ivan and Dolphin Tale duology.
When Marlin realizes he has claws and he can climb things, he is going to think he has super powers!
and with power ...comes great responsibility!
...let's face it, it's a cat ...it's gonna be a super asshole.
I love Marlin. What a great life he had with his canine siblings. He is so special. Give them all lotsa love, cuddles and kisses. Does Marlin have an IG account?

💖 Marlin is sooo precious! 🥰
It is true, Marlin certainly was looking deeply into it wondering why she did not look like the others! lol
🎶When will my reflection show who I am inside? 🎶

Yes indeed 😻😻
She seems partial to the big black lab.
OMG, can’t believe a tiny kitten swims like a fish in the lake? The bravest little one! Bravo.
Marlin on his tippy toes drinking water from the water bowl (1:29 - 1:59) is soooo cute.
Precious 🧡
I wanted to give Marlin a boost
haha :) thats one of my favorites too! soooo sweet!
My favorite is when Marlin sees his reflection at the bottom of the water dish. He is probably thinking, "why do I look different than my brothers and sisters?"
Kittens always think their reflection is another cat, & usually jump on the reflection, like big dawgs, LOL. I thought that bowl might fly!
@@islgrl292 Yeah, most cats in general can't recognise themselves in the mirror.
"Mom, why do I look different?"
Who is this lion staring at me?
shhh... don't tell that he was adopted
The best part is that he doesn't get lost in the open areas, sticks around with his family. Cats are impossible to contain. They usually disappear, hang around and come back whenever they want. That's why Marlin is such a dog.
@Grutgger Schmidtz often from a distance
I ise a sports whistle to call my cats back indoors. Cerries a long way. Works great.
The thing with cats is they usually have much stronger predator instincts than a lot of dogs... If that cat is feeling spunky and he sees a baby rabbit hopping along or something good luck calling cute lil marlin back until that thing is dead in his adorable fanged mouth... "meow!! I got you a present mom.."
He always wants to be near the dogs and never missing a beat!!
Many aren't hard to contain at all. I had a cat growing up that followed us around the neighborhood. Our dog, Dakota, leading the way, and our cat, Tucker, tailing us from behind. And all the cats I've had since then will come when I call them. A lot of it is in how you treat them, and they all have different personalities too. Not all dogs wanna come when you call them if they'd rather stay outside or are distracted chasing things.
I've raised 6 cats, many rescuers. Have never seen a cat that easy going with going in water, Amazing.
Good for you Christine. You are a special person. I have a feral colony here in Va, that I have been taking care of since 2009. We had a kitten just like Marlin, unfortunately he was too friendly. I should have taken him home. But I kept thinking, Ill get him tomorrow. I have a Tom named Smokey that didnt wait.. He jumped in my car one night, and that trifling thing has been my shadow since 2010. I wouldnt take a million dollars for him.
Lies again? Gold Cup Gain City Grab Cat
My cat hated the water and being in a car., this cat has no hangups.
Could be a Turkish van cat
*I adore the thoughtful nature of her dog siblings. Their gentle approach around her, ensuring not to step on or knock her over, is absolutely heartwarming and precious*
This is absolutely adorable!! Then there’s my lab who’s been raised with cats, thinks she’s a cat. She jumps up on the counter and eats the cat food, just like they do!
That's cute 😅

🤦🤣🤣🤣
I too had a dog who thought he was a cat. My cat groomed the dog when he was a pup. Dog arched his back and made a purring sound 🤣 when petted.
Marlin is gorgeous & you will share such special memories. In 2006 I was on a motorcycle trip from L.A to Argentina. 1 month into the trip whilst in Mexico I came across a kitten exactly like Marlin. Given he was Mexican I called him Amigo & we travelled on the motorcycle for nearly 2 years sharing an incredible journey. I then brought him back with me to Australia. He passed away in 2019 & I was devastated but he was truly my best Amigo.
God bless you and Amigo ❤❤❤

I was sitting here thinking about other videos like this that I've seen and "Why don't my cats like to go swimming in the ocean or hiking or camping or any of that stuff?" And then I realized...why would they? I never do any of those things myself. 😆
awwwww! Yes that is exactly why Marlin loves all of it because he has always been around it and has used the dogs as leaders and loves to be part of the adventures and never miss a beat!
Most cats prefer to sleep and chase rats.
Cats don’t have a hierarchy, and they are, by nature, very good hunters, and pure carnivores. They make it on their own if they must. But he knows where it is safest to be, he is just a tiny kitten. Cats are not dogs. And they are not enemies.
This is a wonderful video, and I wouldn’t have dared to let my cat run around without a harness and band. Then again, we live close to a very trafficked road, and don’t have a dog to watch over him 😊
@@akehapkap6143 Cats are anarchists.
Exactly! My cats love chainsaw wood chips, being spun, being vacuumed, walking on a leash, riding bikes, and quads, while my sister's cats are traumatized by a stranger coming in the house!!! They hide in bizarre places, and stop using the litter box!!!
Marlin is a lucky one. He has protecting siblings who will fight for him, he gets to go outside and see the world (and he absolutely loves it), and some other cats probably haven't ever gone anywhere further than their yard before. I hope he lives a long and good life
I once had a tabby kitten who was raised by our two cocker spaniels. And yes, the cat thought she was a dog. Watching this video brought back so many wonderful memories of the three of them. Chasing each other, dogs after cat and then cat after the dogs became a daily routine. Thanks for this wonderful video.

Things I noticed: Cat's front paws (from the wrist to the claws) are super sensitive to touch. Marlin still has cat reactions such as the arched back as a defense and paw-slaps in offense. I don't think Marlin thinks he is a dog but, rather, he knows he is part of the pack. It is wonderful seeing your four-legged family. Thank you for loving them, Caroline.
You took this headline very serious I see 😂
Lmao all those cat things are instinct, so any cat no matter what raised them is going to have feline behaviors
@Kai Cuttlefin True, but when cats and dogs grow up together, they learn each other's "language", so there are fewer misunderstandings.
Marlin is bilingual, I'm so proud.

Because they are animals and their instincts are way stronger than humans. They're not machines so they don't knock or step on her.

This reminds me of my cat, Dog Run, who was a feral cat born in the dog run of our house. The dog run was there when we purchased the house, and we did not keep our two dogs there. A few years later a feral mother cat had a litter of five in the dog run, and they were protected because my dogs were kept out. I fed the mom; she was so thin. After a few weeks she took four the kittens and left one behind. We named him Dog Run, because that is where he was born. After the mom left him behind we brought him in the house. My two dogs licked him and adopted him. Because he was raised by two dogs, he acted like a dog. He would come when called, eat with them, sleep with them and loved to be around people. He lived for 18 years. After my two dogs passed on he became friends with any new dog I brought into the house. He was my only cat and I still miss him.
Pets teach us how to love and then they teach us how to let go. :(

I love how the kitten seems to be especially close to the brown, fluffy dog. 😊
I like how all the dogs stay aware of where he's at, and be careful not to hurt him.
Seemed to have a special friendship with Roxston, the brown shaggy-dog (poodle? ...idk dog breeds)
Beach chases, hide and seek under the bed. Rox was the only doggo to do the elbows-down, play bow, to invite Marlin to play :)
Exactly, everyone of them plays a particular role, the carer, the player, the parent and Marlin is having the best time ever!
It's the mothering instinct, it doesn't recognize differences in species. Humans could learn a lot from this.
YES ISNT IT SO CUTE I JUST LOVE THIS
@@CarriUSA Totally untrue. Not all cats hate water. I have four cats and while three of them dislike getting wet, one of them would live underwater if I would let him. His favorite thing to do is roll around in his water fountain, and given the chance, he loves jumping in the shower if the water isn't too hot.

Cats rule everything around them. he knows he is different and is just putting up with his friends. Playing in the ocean is quite unusual for a domestic cat I would say In these dark times this made me smile Thank You!
Cats has very sensitive paws and they also have a strong instinct to not get wet and smelling, so being at the beach will never be a real comfort to them. They can get used to it, but it is not the same as a dog that usually loves the beach at first glance.

Most orange tabbies think they’re dogs. I had an orange tabby (stray who adopted me) who would hang out with me while I was gardening in the front yard. When people would go by, walking their dogs, I would stop to pet them, and Fluffy would go right up and butt the dogs with his head. Dogs would be “it’s a CAT!” And Fluffy would look around and say “where? No, not me! I’m a dog just like you guys.” Funny and special boy!

There was a neighbor who, I was told, would go camping, trap cats and bring them back home and release them to fend for themselves. No neutering or spay, not even a visit to the vets. One such cat had kittens in his back yard, and his three dogs killed them.
I had 2 rescue cats of my own. I was able to find homes for 17 of the strays. I kept the four least adoptable with me. My six “beasties,” as I called them, and I would go for walks after dinner. Nobody on a leash, not even my first 2. People would just watch us in wonder. It was a lot of fun to watch & nurture them! At night, I would call them from the front porch, and they would all come running in for dinner and bedtime.

We have a rag doll house cat and a cavalier King Charles spaniel. Raised together from tiny. Both now aged 13 and are literally cat dog siblings. They adore each other, sleep curled up together and happily share a water bowl even though we set 2 separate ones out. They choose to drink from the same one and the dog bless his heart, if the cat is thirsty, he stands back and lets him drink first. It’s perfectly possible to raise them happy together with good supervision and is now a beautiful sight to see 13 years later. We know that whoever dies first, the remaining one will grieve for sure x

Yay!!
Cat don't have an ew water instinct, but cats just don't need water like dogs do so lots of cats just see it as something they don't need , cats get/should get their water from the food they eat(like dessert animals), dogs need water cause they pant and require water separately from their food for hydration ofc but also to regulate their body temperature.

Well, he did spend some time staring at his reflection in the dish. I think it clicked then that he's a cat.
I noticed that too! the kittens feline behavior coming out a lot more as he grew up .. cool to watch the stages . My cats loved their big doggie brother ❤️ cute video
I used to have a cat that would play fetch when he was little. He eventually grew out of it and became more cat like. Maybe cats are just more dog like when they're younger because feral cats tend to stick around their mother and siblings and thus have a bit of a social life before going out on their own and becoming more solitary creatures.
@@TheJadeFist Yes, I agree. Cats can be rather social and sometimes inhabit same space in loose groups, but as adults they hunt separately and maintain their own territorial borders (which may overlap with other cats).
But as kittens they tend to copy their mothers more so may pick up some unusual behaviors that they may or may not carry into adulthood.
They can adapt to their surroundings, including having humans, dogs or other animals around, but as anyone who cared for a cat knows, they can and will make people adapt to *their* preferences just as well.
Cat mothers may adopt kittens if they had their own around the same time, which people use to foster kittens that somehow lost their mother even if they are of different species (sand cat, leopard cat, and even bobcat kittens may be and were briefly fostered that way). So this may explain why there is a bit of a leeway in both mother and kitten behavior which makes things like this possible somewhat. But as cat grows up its instincts tend to mostly take over.
(If interested, here is a couple of videos I watched semi-recently about Pallas cat's (manul) kittens: 2e-2Z9fM9MQ, and this is about Amur leopard kittens - PPN4i9aqSlo .Both are in Russian, but the visuals should be enough)
It doesn't realise it's a cat or a dog it just goes with it's instinct, we make these labels and classifications. They don't.

@@Melodyofthesea78 Well, will tell you what I think. Buddy had two dogs with the long ears? Don't know the breed. I think the dogs thought he was just another dog. Does that answer your question?
He's precious beyond words and your dogs are so swwet with him. Since it appears to be the OCEAN, my cat-mom fears of seeing him without a harness and leash pop out! He looks like my boy Peter❤.
The epitome of rolling with the big dogs! Marlin is definitely not the red headed stepchild, but the star of the vid. This was a sight to see.❤❤❤
I loved how he was obviously uncomfortable with the water but he did it anyway cuz his big siblings were doing it. HE JUST WANTS TO FIT IN!!! Also it was really cute watching him drink out of the water dish as a kitty
They forced him in the water. Imagine his Kidney processing the salt from licking it off his paws. This is sad he looks perplexed about whats happening
Yes the kitty followed his siblings and was cute drinking from the water dish,a beautiful kitty 😻❤️
@@fallen1219 I thought cats can handle salt water
I agree with fallen that the kitten should not have been forced to swim of which I assume is what happened as the placement of the kitten in the water was not shown in the video?
Kittens are clueless and it would be very rare for a domesticated feline to choose to swim, esp a tiny, hardly weaned kitten.
I hope marlin is not forced to be in a zillion of stressful situations. Just a thought. Marlin may enjoy the adventure?
Oh, no, the kitten didn't want to fit in. It was just learning from it siblings, thinking this is the right way. It's learning from her siblings, just like a child 11 yrs old or younger would learn from their parents / siblings / anything.
him drinking out of the water bowl with the dog and having to pull himself up on his absolute tippy toes to reach the water has me in tears 🥺
I'm sure he had his own bowl too.
And getting a little splashed too while drinking. My favorite part.
What a survivor!!
@@hanginlaundry360 he did have his own bowl typical cat eh 😻
@@lisamarierosso2713 Getting in on the action!😅😸💗
He is the most beautiful boy❤ he is still a baby. Sends my anxiety sky high seeing him on the boat 🙈

Mirror mirror in the bowl, is there a puppy in my soul?
Oh my god dat was shoooo cuuuuute! 😽
I was dying from cuteness!! Awwwww🥰
Marlin is, in fact, a Great Dire Wolf. He is also a master of disguise.
Love it!!!
He's Macavity, the master of gravity.
You're so cute, Marlin! And you even love the water! Wow! Love the dogs for loving Marlin! ❤
Marlin is so tiny, cute, and sweet. Loved watching this. Thanks for sharing..
Thank you for showing Marlin's great swimming skills before showing him on the boat bc I would've been scared for him 😆
He is the best little swimmer and loves the water! He is so curious and will jump right on the boats and dock with us! Our house is right on the water :) Marlin is so cool!
Me too. Especially in an estuary with large fish.
I love how the dogs treat him like their little brother 🥺
Edit: I didn't know it's a boy, sorry.
I believe he’s a boy
@@Justinb1TV still the baby of the family

He's not a girl he's a boy
Aww🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
this cat is braver than most adult cats 😆
Fabulous - the dogs seem to be quite carefull around the little guy. Caroline and Mack are great parents!
Marlin: "I'm a dog, just a really tiny dog."
Poor little puppy.....Oh,no.... kitten.
But there really are tiny little dogs.
And speaks a different language

Marlin:...”These dogs have gotten good at jumping around me without jumping ON ME...I have taught them well”
I would be totally in love with Marlin in seconds. I am in love with him. What a wonderful example of how cats are adaptable, brave, loving and intelligent. Thank you. It's so uplifting.
That was really interesting and positive to watch. Thankyou for posting and showing animals such kindness 🩷
I love that you guys take Marlin along on the adventures, rather than leaving him at home, as most people do. He's a beauty. The puppies are wonderful with him, too!
I tried to bring my cat along on my adventures, he rather likes to stay at home in the environment he knows. Each cat is an individual, and most of them don't grow up with dogs, so they tend to have a rather sedentary lifestyle. Allow me to remind that cats co-evolved with humans taking advantage of the vast amount of rodents drawn by agriculture or wastes left by human activity. That's why they are not much of travellers and most of them like to stay around where they know food will be abundant, just look at a fishing pier to convince yourself, cats are everywhere ;)
Some years ago our farm cats,( not raised by dogs ) csme along with the dogs to move sheep, a flock of 2000+ takes alot of guiding along narrow scottish tracks, the dogs would range up and down either side and the cats fetch up the rear, in other situations actually ranging between the sheep and dogs. The sheep cats became famous locally because the school bus often got stuck behind us. The only problem when it starts to rain the cats abandon the job the dogs not.
@@windyfarmer.6095 Haha. At least that was something you could (likely) foresee happening ;)
amrogers4 problem was the cats might abandon the job several miles away and have to be rescued in a vehicle,
.
@@windyfarmer.6095 That sounds like a major headache, lol.
"Dogs and cats living together... Mass hysteria!" Actually, mass cuteness!
Well yes. I had a dog that used to Haul kittens to her kennel for games.

Awe man my heart is bursting with love for your fur family. And aweeee the kitty is too precious ❤
This is the single greatest UA-cam video ever. Can’t even pick a favorite clip, the entire thing is just amazing lol
7:27, that is a look of pure love.
Yes I agree 💯 and a beautiful kitty 🙂🐈 cute dogs
What a cute cat. I’m a firm believer you should raise dogs and cats together. It makes both more gentle and understanding. I was never a cat person. I have two big dos (12 and 14 now). One day a little kitty made himself at home. He became my best friend, but bestest friends with my dogs. My dogs were always gentle, but became even more so after the kitty. He got really sick and my boy wouldn’t leave his side (nor could I). He passed around this time last year surrounded by me, my wife and his two dogs. Miss you everyday Bronco, you were a pretty cool dude.
I thought a girl was typing this at first haha! Keep your head up king, Bronco is purring down on you from the big kitty condo in the sky
Sorry for your loss mane.
My Newfoundland dog swallowed the little (7weeks) kitty whole as I left them alone. Just to seize your delights.
that's adorable. My cat was also raised by a half pitbull black lab and she always wags her tail and follows people she likes. I moved away and havent seen her in years. Thank you for sharing your videos of your wonderful cat dog!
THUD!!(fainted from the kitty cuteness!). His wonderful doggie siblings are pretty gentle with him too which makes my heart happy.
She knows she's a cat, but she's got the bestest best friends ever. And she's quite a swimmer.
She just barks different.
I love this comment....barks different LOL :) haha! Thank you for watching and being part of our channel! Glad you like the videos :)
@@marlinthecatdog 😁👍
The cat is a Tom cat not a she cat and he’s the spitting image of my Tom cat exact same patterns as well and he loves the water too.
That's the kind of family I want. Animals, not people.
Feel ya 🖤
Animals won't be wrecking your car at 16 years
You have to explain that to my 17years old ginger Tom who still calls shotgun every single day and as my mother in law discovered don't move from his place for no one and no I don't move him either.
@Mara Peregrine Thanks! Haven't been able to resist spunky little kittens since the time some high school buddies & me were camping, frying eggs in the morning on top of a 15 foot gravel pile and a kitten about 6 weeks old had climbed up all the way to meow for a share our breakfast.
Yeah life is better that way.
And I am not saying have kids is worse. It is different.
I have none children but two cats, very happy.
Marlin is the coolest kitty ever!! sweet and cute! The doggos are adorable and beautiful!! What a great life for them!! Nice job !!
I love the place, I used to go windsurfing in Avon, from Canada...a long road.
I love cats and dogs. It's a very relaxing, peaceful video. Thank you for posting.
This is too sweet and funny , but he deserves a life jacket too!!….in swimming he could be sucked up by a large shark or fish, drown, then what?? Reds are so funny and are the best pets ever!! Their attitudes are so sweet….don’t lose him!!…he wants love and thinks the dogs are his parents!!….you will miss him terribly if he gets hurt!!
Vety true hun
You probably never had a cat before and you won't if he falls in, or perhaps a shark will jump up and pull him in and eat him. You are destined to lose him.
look these amazing cats

@@carolewilson1803 first of all, sharks don't jump up and attack things on boats. You've been watching too much Shark Week dear. Lastly, that's a really mean thing to say, are you sure your name isn't Karen? 😎
I love how the dogs try to include him in on playtime. Lowering the stick so the kitty can give chase too.😍😍💙
Absolutely enjoy watching your videos. Thanks do much for posting.
I think you should put a life vest on Marlin when he's playing at sea. I was worried that he would fall. 🙏🏼
Greetings from Indonesia. 🇮🇩
Yes
Hello from Illinois
I know he's way too small well I saw that he did get bigger as the video went along so he's no longer a tiny kitten but he's still young but he's becoming like it in his teen years I guess so I'm not so frightened as I was before it's clear they are a dog people and they gave their kitten a chance and I guess he passed the test good luck to him 😂😂
I think that too
InfoForU:- I had a cat who lost his sight due to diabetic retinopathy. He had lived in the house all his life so had no trouble finding litter box, etc. He was walking around the pool, missed a turn & fell in - I raced outside, afraid he would drown. He very calmly swam to the exit steps, climbed out & shook himself while I got my heart rate back to normal. Cats are very good swimmers!! Greetings to you from Birmingham, U. S.🌝🖖
That is one special cat! Adorable.
Too cute!
I love cats, too.
Those rings on his tail!
I agree lol
Oh oh he saw himself on the bowl now he knows its not a dog😲
Oh my gosh!!! Marlin is absolutely adorable 🥰❤️🥰❤️
I have a tabby along with my other 3 cats, but Marlin is so cute! He such an adorable kitten ❤️
This is a really lovely video ❤️ the happiness of your animals reflects on what good loving owners you are
God bless you ✝️
Isn’t this video great. I think it’s the best video I’ve seen in a long time.

Dogs: i have humans and one cat they are our pack.
Cat: I rule humans and dogs and I like to go swimming.

Typical. My cat's human is me. Like who is going to feed me and who change my litter box?
This sentiment of "the cat rules over me" I find it to be extremely frustrating, like- I get it- yeah but it's so far from the truth I just can't enjoy it's ridiculousness
